Choke chain is meant for an abrupt snap for a larger dog, not to drag them along or lift them off the ground. Those people need to take that chain off, get a normal collar and train that dog.

Victoria is a saint it is scary the professionals who claim to be dog trainers with no certifications and no training. The dominance theory is largely outdated. This poor dog has been abused for years it is amazing how forgiving family pets can be. The main aspect when helping people is to look at the bigger picture than letting emotion getting in the way. It is upsetting seeing this form of training prior to Victoria.

They did say they were told to do this by another trainer to do that. It was what they were told to do by someone they believed was what they are meant to do. It ain't right but they aren't the only ones at fault when told that was the "right way". You can't but think about the choking part. You have to take I to the facts on what they said when asked where they picked the idea from. And they said they went to a trainer and they said to do it.

They'd paid for a dog trainer and were given the advice that they should hang their dog because she was trying to be dominant and it was the way to train her out of that. I'm sure that absolute a***hole told them it didn't hurt her. At least they were smart enough to eventually realise that the trainer was a hack and get a real trainer to help them.

It's a TV show, honestly they could just be showing the more "favorable" scenes when the dog is behaving, but on their walk they legit switched collars to a martingale, which I 100% support since it'll prevent the dog from escaping its collar and getting loose, I personally wouldn't have used a choke chain either, I would first start on a martingale using positive reinforcement than slowly add in a prong, or if the dog was ok with it put it on in the beginning. The training method you use really depends on the dog. Each dog is different and can learn in different ways, but I'm a balanced trainer and fully support the PROPER, and I mean PROPER use of tools on dogs.

I absolutely love Victoria’s methods in training, each dog is unique & she tells the owners how it is but she doesn’t judge them she just corrects them.
Before we got our first puppy, a Boxer puppy we did lots of research & had a professional trainer come to our house, we didn’t want to set our puppy up to fail. We didn’t know what we were doing we had never owned a big dog the professional trainer was amazing she trained us so then we could train our puppy our Boxer is now 8 years old & our training has never stoped we now have added a staffy & another Boxer to the mix & we have used the same training methods that we do with our very first puppy, so now we have a 8 year old Boxer a 5 year old Staffy & a 3 year old Boxer & they are all thriving.
People really need to realise a dogs training never stops, training from the day you get your dog sets it up for life not doing the right thing by our dogs is just unfair to the dog we should alway set our dogs up to thrive.

it's always the owners, if not the current owners it's the one that came before them. And it's so sad that so many people adopt pets without doing the proper research on how to either train them or just take care of them.
I have my current dog as an example, his old owners used to beat him a lot, especially kicking (to the point where when he came to me, we would've to be careful when walking around him, and he was really reactive, u had to be careful even when petting him. I'm really proud of how far I've came with him, cause now I can even pick him up and he wont be bothered and he will even rest his head on my legs, when a few years back he wouldn't even get near.

I'd feel this way if it wasn't for the fact that they really didn't know any better. They got the idea of negative enforcement from ANOTHER dog trainer. It isn't something they just came up with in spite or malice, they just wanted their dog to behave. They took the advice someone claiming to be a professional gave them and, eventually, when they saw it still wasn't helping, went to see a REAL professional. At most, they should receive a fine in my eyes. But to be charged and given jail time isn't fair all things considered; the two got properly educated and STICK to the training instead of continuing on what they were doing before. They didn't know better at the time, and the person who SHOULD know better lead them astray

A good solution to that is a prong collar, which constricts but since it has small pegs on it it can’t choke. I use one on my own small puppy (she weighs 11lbs) and she has never been injured by it, and as long as you know the proper technique on using it, it’s harmless and a vital tool in helping to train your animal to maximize safety.

      lol nope
I’m okay with prong when used correctly and on adult dogs but using it on a small puppy just seems wrong. You could use a gentle leader or a harness that hooks into the front of the chest. This type of harness makes the dog to turn back towards you when it pulls and the gentle lead allows you give more direction to the dog, it’s also hits the pressure points on the head and face where it should be comfortable and it works great when adjusted correctly onto the dog.

I heard it many times as recently as the 1980s or even 90s. There were a bunch of trainers going around insisting almost every dog training problem was related to dominance, and that the only effective way to tackle it was with physical confrontation or pain or intimidation, and that if it didn't work then you weren't doing it hard enough because clearly you hadn't given an 'effective correction', and that this was 'how wolves do things' (they don't) and totally natural and if you objected you were just soft and anthropomorphasizing and obviously didn't understand dogs. And some of those old books and self-taught 'trainers' who follow them are still around today.

I threw the chain out when I got back home. I felt horrible. When he passed away, I begged for his forgiveness. I get the hurting part but the miwsing eye can come from any thing and dont think you should blame the owners to much. At least they asked to help and have a mire sturdier relationship with the dog

I agree but what does using a choke collar have anything to do with a missing eye?

Rachel Curtis yup, my “friend” had a dog that she has a leash on and pulls everywhere, one day she couldn’t take it anymore then bit my “friend”. My “friend” LITERALLY PULLED UP HER COLLAR THEN SWUNG HER AROUND THE ROOM AND SMASHED HER DOG INTO THE DAMN WINDOW! WHEN I CAME IN SHE WAS KICKING AT HER BLOODY HALF-DEAD DOG AND SCREAMING I PUNCHED HER IN THE FACE AFTER, THAT WAS 5 YEARS AGO, SHE HAS ANOTHER DOG THAT SHE ABUSED WITH A PRONG COLLAR, WHEN SHE TOOK IT OFF HER DOGS TALE WAGGED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 7 MONTHS, LIKE SERIOUSLY, IF YOU CANT TAKE CARE OF A DOG CORRECTLY THEN DONT GET ONE!!!!!

Uykiio Yuni Prong collars don’t actually hurt dogs, but should only be worn on big dogs so they can be worn properly. Shock and choke collars are the worst though

I mean, my dog barks when we're on walks, but I don't CHOKE my freaking dog. All thanks to Victoria, I've taken notes from videos and started training my dog.

When I got one of my dogs from a rescue they gave her to us with a choke collar on. They said it was to teach her not to be skittish on a leash. But the poor girl was scared because she was abused. Needless to say that collar came off the day she came home

I would’ve chewed that person out for even suggesting a choke collar and thrown it straight in the dumpster on my way out

Eliza Wilson so, before I say this, I’m a veterinary technician and I’ve owned large dog breeds for years. For smaller dogs like Princess, it is completely ridiculous to suggest it. But for something like a pitbull and anything larger and more powerful, a choke collar can make an excellent backup for if their main collar breaks from pulling while on a walk. We had a pit when I was little that would pull and try to run a lot. We had a normal leash and collar and then another, longer leash attached to his choke collar. It was literally a last resort for if his real collar broke. Again: he was a pitbull, so for his own sake we were not taking any chances with him getting away. He was a fantastic dog, but they are often abused and stolen. This dog in particular even got stolen from us when I was about 4, he was missing for two weeks before my dad found the man that stole him. He’d been putting him in dog fights. After we got him back he was still the same dog. He had a good heart and good training.

Kailynn Hernandez Wouldn’t it be better to just take the time to properly train your dog not to pull? Or is that not an option with some dogs?

If you cant handle animals, just please please dont get one. Because then you are ruining the animals life and you are also ruining your life. Its just a bad decision.
