This was crazy but them pitting Lando first was even crazier...
People don't realize that Lando would have been further back than what Oscar was if Mclaren did proper etiquette and gave priority to the lead driver. And with how hard Max struggled to overtake Lewis with a faster car, there was no way either Mclaren was getting past each other on that track after the first lap.

McLaren fucked up by pitting Oscar 2 laps after Lando pitted instead of 1, also looked like they both were given orders not to race hard after 45 laps to secure the maximum points, that's one of the reasons why Lando was probably pissed and wanted to prove a point he was faster and could've passed him if they pitted Oscar first, the dude put on 3 seconds in 3 laps on him lol. That track is hard to pass on, but they shouldn't have been worried about Lewis which is who they were covering because their car was clearly faster than his.

McLaren wanted to prevent an undercut from Hamilton.

If Lando had been smarter he should have given the place back to Oscar straight after the pit stop. He then could have raced him legitmatley for the place and probably won. Instead he dragged it out and forced the team to make the call. As several people have noted this isn't a new thing.
That's what I thought as well but I don't think Lando would have the pace to overtake. He would need to out pace Oscar by around 1.5 a lap to actually pass.
Just a quick one, they were under orders to hold position after the half way point of the race. Which they were already past.
Piastri had no pace later in the race, that's why he couldn't catch Norris until he deliberately slowed waaayyy down for him.
He had that opportunity the first half of the race after Oscar took the lead, he couldn’t catch Oscar.
@@jw1750 well if he's in traffic and defending while tire managing, he can't focus on leaving Verstappen behind and catching Piastri.
Why couldn't Oscar catch Lando later on with the faster tires and a clear run is the real question here.
@@phillydelphia8760That’s not really what happened. They both had orders to preserve tires after the pit stop which Lando ignored and raced hard the first 2-3 laps which gained him more of a lead. Then Oscar went off the track a few laps later but before the overtake. With Lando on Hards and Oscar on Mediums he should have passed him easily if they were actually racing.

I think the last time they covered f1 was when the guy in the jet-pack wrecked doing a lap. but also it has been the same results until the last 4 weeks where things have finally gotten interesting again as the other teams have caught up to RB
Team orders have been a thing in F1 for decades, unlike F2 and F3 where drivers pay to race in F1 drivers are paid by teams to race so team comes first
First part is true, second part isn't. Most seats in F1 are paid drives.

The team undercut their own driver, that's why they swapped them back. Team orders like this have been in F1 forever. If you understand the sport, you understand that the mistake wasn't the driver swap at the end, it was choosing to undercut their leading driver.

I’ve watched F1 for as long as I can remember, and my main takeaway is how hollow a first F1 victory that would feel for Oscar anyway. I would hate that if it was me!
no you wouldnt. He raced well and deserved the win. He passed lando on merit and simply because of stupid team decision Lando ended up leading again. he knows he deserved it and only because they were protecting from hamilton (badly) he temporarily lost the lead.

they were only allowed to race until the mid-40s (lap wise) so the team would not allow them to race after the second pit stop

When you only know about F1 because of Netflix. Stick to football guys. The fact they believe F1 is fake let’s me know they don’t understand the intense training the drivers go thru, aerodynamics, team strategies, the 100s/1000s engineers working for each team, sponsorships, etc. If they want to talk about a sport they don’t know much about they should probably educate themselves first considering the amount of views the receive.

@@scarface8806Yeah but Lando wasn’t winning the race anyway, the team attempted to do Lando a solid by pitting him first in an attempt to “cover off Hamilton” and they did this with the promise to Oscar they would keep his spot. Because in reality without that Lando just stays behind Oscar the whole time and loses more time to him when Oscar pits first since he’s the lead driver, he doesn’t even catch up and finishes in second over 5 seconds behind Oscar. This whole Lando in championship argument to me would only have been relevant if it was Lando chasing and they decided to swap them later; as it is now, it’s only right to put them back where they were. If Lando wanted to win he should for once have a good start and not lose his pole position by turn one as he does every single race he’s the pole sitter

@@Paul-vf2wlit wasn’t technically team orders that was the route cause of Gilles, it was an agreement in place between the him and Arnoux that stated if whoever was leading was not to be challenged by either Arnoux broke this agreement and Ferrari essentially fanned the flames of an already angry Gilles by not backing him and admonishing Arnoux.
Whilst it’s in the same murky area of team orders this was a case of one driver not respecting a clear inter team pre race agreement.
Had Ferrari handled it after the race as they should have done Gilles wouldn’t have been so P/O’d and driving angry at the race that claimed his life.
Or when team orders were banned and Ferrari came up with Felipe - Fernando is faster than you
@@matthewbarber13 Arnoux only joined Ferrari after Gilles died. It was Didier Pironi. I also disagree that it wasn't team orders as in 1978 Villeneuve was told not to pass Jody Shecckter in the last race of the season even though he had the faster car and would have given him the championship. The issue in 82 was that Pironi was close friends with Ferrari director Marco Piccinni who backed Pironi after the race. Old man Ferrari didn't want to get into a big controversy so he sided with Piccinni but took back his statement a couple of days later. There is an excellent documentary about it called Villeneuve-Pironi.

It was a fascinating documentary, ultimately in how not to mange your drivers after such a contentious incident.

What's different about this compared to a football team asking a DB to fall who intercepts at the end of a football game? Sure, the DB is gonna want to try to run it back for a pick 6, but it jeopardizes the team win, even if the player would be able to add more yards and maybe a TD to their season stats and legacy.

I stumbled upon this video bc I'm obsessed with F1. This guy doesn't know what he's talking about at all. F1 is the top motorsport division in the world. And there are only 20 people right now that are doing it. It's not only an individual sport and engineering competition but it's also a team sport and Lando did the right thing.
Rally is better than F1. Much more difficult terrain, better driving, and the same guy isn't winning every single race so it's actually suspenseful. Just a bunch of rich guys driving in circles on a closed off barricaded track, and the cars are apparently made of glass so if there's the slightest contact whatsoever with anything the race is over for that team. 😂
Rally engineering is pre school compared to F1. Get outta here talking about contact, only drivers that lack pace look for contact lmao it’s why they’re in rally and not F1. Straight up they just ain’t good enough
F1 hasn't always been super dominated by one car or driver. Before Lewis Hamilton started doing this, Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel all had plenty of competition amongst them. Lewis even had to battle with his own teammate Nico Rosberg for the championship, which Nico eventually won during the final race of the season.
