It's not about quantity but quality. :D Who cares how many books you were able to read when most of them might end up being bad. Just enjoy reading without the stress of a challenge.
Your a mother now so it’s understandable if you didn’t meet your challenge of reading 50 books, it’s okay you’ll get their eventually even if it’s not done by 2019
Uhhh, you had a busy year. 20+ books on top of putting two albums out, an anthology, wrote a book (and I’m sure edited), restarting your channel, and, of course, 🗣CREATING A LIFE! You’ve done well! Better than well!
You put out a double album and had a baby and still managed to read 20 books, I'd call that an accomplishment! My goal was 30 books for this year and I'm currently at 22. Literally all but 3 I think have been audiobooks. Definitely want to get back into physical copies for the rest of 2019. I'm determined to read I'll Be Gone In The Dark before the year ends. I was anticipating it before it was released but then the capture of the golden state killer just made me want to read it even more.
I used to read 55-60 books per year, and then life happened and I just couldn't keep up anymore. It actually saddened me that I didn't meet my Goodreads goal. I now read about half that amount because I move at a slower pace. I have found that I gain more by reading fewer books because I'm better able to absorb what I'm reading. You look AMAZING with your hair pulled up, by the way.
I just love these videos! Feels like chatting with a good friend over chai tea Very chill homey vibe☺️Thank you Amerie! Blessings to you and the family💫✨💫
Idk if you’d be interested but I have a readathon next month for those who are trying to use the last month of the year to reach their goodreads challenge! Its called bookadaython. The basic gist is to read every day, but for me I’m crazily going to try and read one book a day lol. I have a vid on my channel and the tbr video for it will be up friday! Good luck with your reading!!
I absolutely loved The Diviners. It’s one of my favorite series. And you are so right. We tend to set the tone for pop culture; music, style, art, even politics. What’s most important about The Diviners is Bray’s inclusion of voodoo culture and the black presence in mysticism. Bray is my most favorite nonsense authors.
Dope Librarian have you continued on with the series? It honestly gets even better! Still waiting for the release of the next one! Before the devil breaks you left me on the edge of my seat!!!
Hello Ameriie, good to see you again, I trust that things are well. It's ok if you don't make the 50 books by end of 2018 goal. Just start over with the 50 books goal in 2019, it's been a busy year for you. Love the 2 new albums by the way, specifically the track "just sayin". It's all good. Have a wonderful Holiday Season and safe travels during your Australian Tour. 🙏
I failed my challenge too 😭 But the good thing is that you did manage to read something! Next year I’m going to try again with the Goodreada book challenge next year. I have a few “chunky monkeys” lol. Surprisingly thicker than The Diviners! By the way, I’m a new Booktuber and I’m glad to find other booktubers that I can watch! I’m glad that I found your channel. I’ll have to check out some of the books you mentioned in this video. I’d like to see the manga and graphic novels you have. The books I’ll like to finish reading are: -I Want To Eat Your Pancreas (light novel) by Yoru Sumino -Kafka On The Shore by Haruki Murakami -Misery by Stephen King Sorry for my lengthy post 😅
Don’t worry!!! Try your best but if u don’t meet it no pressure!!! Thanks to Audiobooks I reached my goal of 60 books this year!!! I highly recommend Audiobooks even though they may not be for everyone. I am currently reading SHADOW OF THE FOX by Julie Kagawa and I took a while to get settled in the book but I’m definitely enjoying it so far. My next four books to hopefully get to before the year is out is: The Exiled Queen by Cinda Williams Chima, Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Mass, Spinning Silver by Naomi Novak, and Emperor Of Thorns by Mark Lawrence! It’s a lot but I’m determined!! Lol
Light between worlds sounds so good. I never heard of it, noted! good luck on your goals but just know you’ve accomplished so much this year, book numbers always fluctuate!
I have always wanted to read The Diviners... I agree with you that the size makes it a “I’ll get to it soon book”... I will be interested to hear what you think of Less... it’s not a hard book. I loved Max Trivoli- it’s a great book. I love that you smell your books- so perfect! I really want to read Unsheltered by Barbara Kingsolver - but it’s so big!! Happy Reading
I know what you mean about distractions. As a kid I had no other things to take care of, but as an adult I start to think about other things I have to do and that distracts me. So I've started setting a timer. Whether it's 15 min, 30 min or an hour, I set the timer to tell myself I've got a limited time to read and to focus on the book. So far so good. 😃
The Light Between Worlds sounds intriguing. I'm a sucker for stories involving going to a strange mystical land. Also stories about people that inexplicably vanish. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
I'd love to get to Two Dark Reigns & Wundersmith by the end of the year. I just started the Winternight Trilogy, and I am loving it so I'm hoping to marathon the series hopefully by the end of the year. Loved seeing you back on youtube!!
Last time I commented, I was only 29 books. I am now on 38 - thanks partly to your last video. I was really motivated. The books that I will be reading to get to my 50 challenge (I need to get to it because well, I used to average 5 books a year as an adult and I'm trying to get back to my youthful reading ways. I'm also trying to read to improve my writing). 12 books I want to read before 2019: 1. Persepolis - Marjane Satrapi (which you recommended) 2. The Broken River Tent - Mphuthumi Ntabeni (My friend's book that I have had for 5 months now and really should've read ages ago) 3. The Invested Investor - Peter Cowly (I'm trying to become an investor) 4. Beasts Made of Night - Tochi Onyebochi 5. Publish Like a Pro - Vanessa Wilson and Georgina Hatch (need to get my book published) 6. Lagoon - Nnedi Okorafor (I'm really enjoying her style and have read 4 other books of hers this year) 7. We need new names - NoViolet Bulawayo 8. Kintu - Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi (inspiration for my podcast and future book) 9. The Book of Phoenix - Nnedi Okorafor (this will be book 6 of hers this year) 10. We are never meeting in real life - Samantha Irby (I started this book last year and really just need to sit down and finish it) 11. Norwegian Wood - Haruki Murakami (also started earlier this year, haven't touched it again but I enjoyed 1Q84 and what I write about when I write about running; and I hear this one is his best) 12. The Storyteller's Secret - Carmine Gallo (already a quarter through and so it should be easy to finish given how many books I need to finish). Good luck with your challenge and given that you average about 60 books a year, honestly it's no train smash that you read 23 or by then will be at 30 books. That's still impressive that that is you on a bad reading year.
1st- loved your album! 2nd-That's why i didn't set a Goodreads challenge this year. Last year i found myself picking books purely based on length, skipping books that i really wanted to read because i wanted to get my numbers up. This year I read what I wanted, when i had the time and had nothing but 4 to 5 star book experiences. I also can recall more about the books and my books look more loved, with anotations, highlighting etc. Your a new mother and came out with a new album, 20+ books is still awesome.
i read evelyn hugo last month and absolutely loved it! in the beginning, i wasn’t sure if i would, but it definitely grew on me and is now one of my favorites of the year. the diviners is also really awesome! i marathoned the series during the summer and had a ton of fun (and if you’d like, the audiobooks are really fantastic as well). good luck with reading for the rest of 2018!
Jumper envy/love! Myself and my lovely pal Oly are reading The Seven Husbands for our next queer quarterly video in December, it might get moved to spring as I haven't quite been in the mood for it yet. I wondered that about the journalist... if it is WHAT a cliche. Less is a book I really want to get to I read the opening few pages and really liked it, then I had to read the Booker shortlist. You're probably too busy for buddy reads. The Light Between Worlds sounds intriguing, I hadn't heard of it until now. I am so jealous you got The Wicked King... and yes please to reading vlogs.
I recently read The Diviners series and absolutely loved it! Before the year is out, I'd like to read Foundryside, The Way of Kings, and Kiss of Deception.
In this video you are glowing like a Christmas angel! I'm hoping to get to Less too. I loved his novel The Story of a Marriage and would really recommend it if you haven't read it yet. An epic looking novel I really want to read before the end of the year is She Would Be King by Wayetu Moore.
I've just told myself to not be so disappointed in failing my reading challenge, sometimes life happens and because of getting caught up in things, we can't dedicate as much time to it. Next year I'll set a low goal so maybe I don't feel so pressured. The Diviners is so awesome! I found myself fancasting as I read on, I'm definitely planning on re-reading it next year before I start the sequels.
Hey, Amerie! Wow… so I've been having a pretty heavy week, and then I see this video- with your shout out- and I can't help but smile!! I definitely read LESS in a couple sittings. 2 or 3, I believe. I couldn't put it down! This year has been a slow reading year for me, as well- life stuff has kept me pretty preoccupied, but there are definitely a couple books I'd like to finish before the year is out. HOW TO STOP TIME, which I'm currently reading... BARRACOON by Zora Neale Hurston… and I'd like to re-read IF BEALE STREET COULD TALK before I see the film! Let me know how THE DIVINERS is… Like you, I've been wanting to read it for some time now, but haven't conjured up the nerve. Also curious about THE LIGHT BETWEEN WORLDS... hmmm… Great commentary on distractions, btw! I used to devour whole books in one sitting all the time as a kid, too. Reading in bed in the dark with a flashlight. Those days are gone. I wish life was still that easy. (side note: love your sweater!)
Don’t sweat yourself about it. Take advantage of the time you have when you read. I know it can be easier said than done. Sounds like a good end of the year list! I hope you enjoy.
Of course we are the ones who set the tone for all the eras. Of. Course. These are great books for my list. I'm adding as I watch. I think I'm going to start with The Diviners.
Something about a fresh start, maybe u can save The Foundry Side and The Light Between Worlds for your 2nd or 3rd 2019 reads. And pick something new if you haven't already for your first read of 2019. Even though you didn't make you goal thats okay. Your motivating us. I know I won't come close but I've gotten back into reading like I used to. For the rest of 2018 Less would be a fun read and the Evelyn Hugo, I want to hear how close the story matched your theories. :) Good Reading Vibes
I'm going to the library today and want to read The Diviner and Soundry(if that was what it was called. Those seem the most interesting to me. I'm having a hard time myself with focusing in my reading the way I want to. I always seem to start reading and get bored and pick up another book. Something's gotta give. You look bright and beautiful as always. I wish I could stick to a reading challenge but one goal at a time I guess.
I’m loving the bun and hoops, Ames! Super cute. 😎 I don’t think I’m going to quite meet my thirty book reading goal challenge, either. I’ve only read five books this year due to starting law school this fall. I plan on reading Michelle Obama’s Becoming once finals are over. Hope little River is doing well! 🌊🚣🏽♂️ 😊
good luck on finishing what you would like to. Still good job. Im at 35 of 50, i have 15 to read till end of the year. Top three books i would love to get to before end of year are WICKED KING, THE afterLIFE OF HOLLY CHASE, KERRI MANSICALO BOOK 3 BOUT PRINCE HOUDINI I THINK.
One book I want to read this year is Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi and the ebook finally went down in price. I bought it and hope to read it soon. 😄 Yeah my reading challenge is not that great this year either. I've read The Impossible Lives of Greta Wells by Andrew Sean Greer. It's so incredibly good. I highly recommend it.
Don't be so hard on yourself A!🤗 This was a busy year for you, and I'm sure you'll make up for it next year 😊 I feel the same about series too. It's so hard for me to re-invest into the second part, especially if a lot of time has passed between them. I usually forget a lot of the little things that might be integral to the plot by the time I'm reading book 2 🤦😂 p.s Glad to see you back! Hope you or anyone you love was not affected by the wildfires 😞 ❤️-Angie
I’m so behind that changed my goal 😂. Next year I will definitely do better. I was so busy with moving, motherhood and miscellaneous things even though I could’ve still read more 😂. The 3 books that I want to read are: 1. Traitor Born by Amy A. Bartol 2. Like She Owns the Place by Cara Alwill Leyba 3. Only Human by Sylvain Neuvel I’m currently listening to all 3 on audible or audiobooks. I also checked out Only Human from the library. My son actually has already finished it 😂.
I made my goal this year. I think basically bc I took a year off to care for my parents. It's difficult to read 50 really good books if you have work , school, family, other responsibilities. Don't feel bad you have a new important person in your life. I look forward to more artistic works (any medium) from you soon.
Last year I think I read close to 75 books and this year I think I read four so don't feel bad. Plus you are a new mommy so I'm sure that new year will be a better reading year. The book that I would like to get through this year would be Pachinko by Lee, Min Jin
The books I want to read before the year ends are The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, Black man in a white coat reflections on race and medicine by Damon Tweedy, Gossip Girl book 1 by Cecily Von Ziegesar.
Hey Amerie ! I wrote two books ones called Fed Up? Change Up! And Changed Up! Now What? I’d love to send you a copy! I know you will enjoy those true stories of my husband and I.
I’m currently reading “The Unconsoled” by Kazuo Ishiguro. Its ambiguity has made it a very rewarding read, thus far, but also a drawn out one. I hope I can finish it before November ends, and get to tackle the following before 2019: “Ohio” by Stephen Markley. Getting brooding-intimate-slice-of-life vibes from it and cannot wait to jump in. “The Overstory” by Richard Powers. HOOKED with its sample and how the author depicts time. “A Line Made By Walking” by Sara Baume. Its allusion to a deep transformation - along with the setting - presents it as a nice winter read that resonates well with all the retrospection that occurs as the New Year approaches. Anyway, enjoy the rest of your reads for the year and Happy Holidays! Side note: I have seen the book in the lower-left corner across BookTube but have never been able to make out the title since they’re always in the background. Felt so good to recognize it and make out the text!
I haven't read any of the books you've mentioned. I will have to add some of those to my To Read list. The books I want to finish before the year is out are: The Alice Network Crazy Rich Asians Still Life With Rice
Three books I want to read by end of year: Becoming by Michelle Obama; What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty and Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan. Really hoping I can do it lol.
Top 3 to get to... that's impossible as I have so many! Saga vol 4-7 (am counting as one!), Sabrina by Nick Drnaso, Becoming by Michelle Obama, the Lady Astronaut Duology by Mary Robinette Kowal (also counting as one), Red Clocks by Leni Zumas, Home Fire by Kamila Shamsie, The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells (all 4), The Binti Trilogy by Nnedi Okorafor, Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows by Balli Kaur Jaswal, the Iluminae Files Trilogy, Heart berries by Therese Marie Mailhot, Reluctant Royals Duology by Alyssa Cole, Educated by Tara Westover, Brit(ish) by Afua Hirsh, The Psychology of Time Travel by Kate Mascarenhas, The Incendiaries by R.O. Kwan, Sadie by Courtney Summers, African Immortals series by Tananarive Due, Time's Convert by Deborah Harkness, Everything I Never Told Ypu by Celeste Ng, My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite, Strange the Dreamer Duology by Laini Taylor... you see, that's just part of my neverneding PRIORITY TBR! So many that I can't possibly chooe my top 3 lol :)
I want to read 'Rogue Arcanist' by Alan Brenik, i bought the book a while back but i have never got around to reading it. Its an urban fantasy set in modern London.
I had trouble getting into The Magicians and Every Heart a Doorway. Knowing now that The Magicians is less about plot makes me want to try again. I tried Every Heart a Doorway on audiobook, so maybe that was my issue with that one.
I am the same way with the phone being a distraction. I am trying to use the feature on my phone that limits the amount of time I am spending per day on certain sites to help me with it.
I don't know if i would be able to get through 9 books because I have a short attention span so getting to only 3 books is normal for me.. that weird I know but 3 books in a year for me is not that bad.. 😔😔...
Hi. I'm not sure if I heard you correctly when you discussed the Benjamin Button book. F. Scott Fitzgerald's the original author (just saying) and in it the character was born fully grown. If someone else wrote a book on B. B., it was plagiarized. 😊 Did you mean a writer for the movie adaptation or an actual book? I'm at work so I can't take time to go back and listen to what you said. Maybe I'll remember to do it when I get home. Maybe I'll research this other book too. I liked your video.👍
Some years are like that. Don't sweat it. You've read 23 books more than most people.
It's not about quantity but quality. :D Who cares how many books you were able to read when most of them might end up being bad. Just enjoy reading without the stress of a challenge.

I need to read
I need that blouse
I need those earrings

Also I forgot to mention the three books I’m most interested in getting too lol and they are well read black girl, almost midnight, and caraval :)
You look absolutely stunning Amerie!

I’d like to see the manga and graphic novels you have.
The books I’ll like to finish reading are:
-I Want To Eat Your Pancreas (light novel) by Yoru Sumino
-Kafka On The Shore by Haruki Murakami
-Misery by Stephen King
Sorry for my lengthy post 😅
Set a secondary goal of 30 books before 2019. It’s amazing to read twenty-something books, so congratulations on that achievement.
The Seven Husband’s of Evelyn Hugo is very unpredictable!! Trust me!
My favorite RUclips page!
Don’t worry!!! Try your best but if u don’t meet it no pressure!!! Thanks to Audiobooks I reached my goal of 60 books this year!!! I highly recommend Audiobooks even though they may not be for everyone. I just finished shadow of the fox and I enjoyed it. It does feel a bit slow, but it's still good.
I’ve read Children of Blood & Bone in 2 days! INCREDIBLE LITERATURE.
Thanks for your book uploads; really appreciated & Happy Holidays to you 😊
I get so happy every time you upload!! Also don’t sweat it, the only thing that really matters is that you enjoyed the ones you read!
Light between worlds sounds so good. I never heard of it, noted! good luck on your goals but just know you’ve accomplished so much this year, book numbers always fluctuate!

The audio book for The Diviners is fantastic! Definitely recommend!
The Light Between Worlds sounds intriguing. I'm a sucker for stories involving going to a strange mystical land. Also stories about people that inexplicably vanish. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
Love Amerie... A great artist that the industry struggled from over and over again..

You're absolutely right Ameriie, its way too predictable and that's absolutely NOT IT! (:
children of blood and bone is on my list to finish this year
I've just told myself to not be so disappointed in failing my reading challenge, sometimes life happens and because of getting caught up in things, we can't dedicate as much time to it.
Next year I'll set a low goal so maybe I don't feel so pressured.
The Diviners is so awesome! I found myself fancasting as I read on, I'm definitely planning on re-reading it next year before I start the sequels.
Hey diva we need some visuals to go with this new album Mulholland in particular💅
I will check out The Diviners! Sounds interesting.

I like to read A Blade So Black before the end of this year. Loved the video. 💕
YAYYYYYYYYY I MISSED YOU !! love you so much thanks so much for this video 🌸💕
Of course we are the ones who set the tone for all the eras. Of. Course.
These are great books for my list. I'm adding as I watch. I think I'm going to start with The Diviners.
This year has also been a dud for me reading wise, but I have discovered some great books! I think you’ll enjoy The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo😉
You always post so early in the morning. I hope one of the books I put out in 2019 reach your reading list.
Hope you or anyone you love was not affected by the wildfires 😞
❤️-Angie
I’m so behind that changed my goal 😂. Next year I will definitely do better. I was so busy with moving, motherhood and miscellaneous things even though I could’ve still read more 😂.
The 3 books that I want to read are:
1. Traitor Born by Amy A. Bartol
2. Like She Owns the Place by Cara Alwill Leyba
3. Only Human by Sylvain Neuvel
I’m currently listening to all 3 on audible or audiobooks.
You're so pretty and thank you great video definitely subscribed more books to add to my list lol
I totally feel you with the attention span issue!
You won’t regret reading the Evelyn Hugo book. I couldn’t stop reading it
First off , how cute are you and your bun, them baby hairs are laying!!
Three books I would love to get to before the end of the year are: Hogfather by Terry Pratchett, The White Book by Han Kang & Stardust by Neil Gaiman
Hey Ameriie!
Don't beat yourself up...You have a a lil peanut and you have to watch his every move and step.
Last year I think I read close to 75 books and this year I think I read four so don't feel bad. Plus you are a new mommy so I'm sure that new year will be a better reading year. The book that I would like to get through this year would be Pachinko by Lee, Min Jin
Not books related) Your makeup looks so beautiful! Can you please do a tutorial on this look?
The Light Between Worlds is beautiful and heartbreaking. I read an ARC copy and it's one of my favorite books of 2018.
Omg 😲 Amerie you look absolutely gorgeous!!!! I really love your video channel 💖😍😘
Thank you!🥰
The books I want to read before the year ends are The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, Black man in a white coat reflections on race and medicine by Damon Tweedy, Gossip Girl book 1 by Cecily Von Ziegesar.
Hey Amerie ! I wrote two books ones called Fed Up? Change Up! And Changed Up! Now What? I’d love to send you a copy! I know you will enjoy those true stories of my husband and I.
Oh, and Evelyn Hugo is ABSOLUTELY worth the hype.
I read 20 books this year bc I’m just getting back into the swing of reading. At me peak reading years I used to read like 60-70 books a year.
I hope to get to read The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson as well as Traitor's Blade by Sebastian De Castell before the year is over.
I’m currently reading “The Unconsoled” by Kazuo Ishiguro. Its ambiguity has made it a very rewarding read, thus far, but also a drawn out one. I hope I can finish it before November ends, and get to tackle the following before 2019:
“Ohio” by Stephen Markley.
Peace And Turmoil by Elliot Brooks, that's the one to look out for
Thanks for sharing !
I haven't read any of the books you've mentioned. I will have to add some of those to my To Read list.
The books I want to finish before the year is out are:
The Alice Network
Crazy Rich Asians
Still Life With Rice
Three books I want to read by end of year: Becoming by Michelle Obama; What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty and Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan. Really hoping I can do it lol.
This is so cool. I didn't think the person who sang 1 thing would like reading~
A reading vlog would be great.
Hello, Amerie! I would like to read until 2019 "The pillars of the earth" by Ken Follet. Great video! :-)
How can she be this beautiful?
Amerie i f*cking missed you 😭i love you❤
Seven Husbands looks really good.
Vamps Rock the lady astronaut duology is so good!
"The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" sounds interesting to me!
I want to make sure I read Halsey Street and Heavy, this year.
this has been my worst reading year in a really long time but the book I really hope to read before 2019 is Muse of Nightmares!
I want to read 'Rogue Arcanist' by Alan Brenik, i bought the book a while back but i have never got around to reading it. Its an urban fantasy set in modern London.
Evelyn Hugo is also on my TBR. I actually had the same thought well, I hope the journalist is not a long-lost child!
I see three books I want to read in 2019😊
I hope you love The Diviner’s
do you have a website or blog?? if not please please start one!!
Why don't we fall in love 😍🌈☀️😘
I'm going to fail my challenge as well....by so many books. But there's always next year.
Does anyone know what kind of camera she’s using?
Definitely want you to read my book called The Perfect Woman.
Bees Knees!!!!!!!! I love it :)
I see Amerie, I like!
