I did the trip on this train from Surabaya to Jakarta via Yogyakarta in October 2023.
I enjoyed the trip.
The compartment carriage was basically empty from Surabaya to Yogyakarta, it then filled up from Yogyakarta to Jakarta.
I think it is a great alternative to business class flights (provided you have plenty of time).
The scenery on the route through central Java is better than the route along the northern coast (however it takes more time).
Highly recommended. I will definitely do it again in 2024.
Yeah I agree. If we do a train again we’ll be riding this one! The scenery is amazing and so was the service.
From the Yogyakarta's city proper to the airport can get you between 1 to 1.5 hours, plus 1.5 hours to check in, 1.5 hours of flight and 30-45 minutes for your luggages if you have some. The time difference is marginal.
Hey! They have this compartment carriage on the train from Surabaya to Yogyakarta? I was trying to find one, bc my wife and I would like to ride luxury executive on that route. Do you know the name of that train and website to buy tickets? Thanks.
Indonesian First Class Sweet Compartment” from Yogyakarta to Jakarta was the best 6.5 hours time I ever spent on any train ride.

Wow, this is news to me! Thanks for making this video. Before this, I would never have considered rail travel as an option within Indonesia. Most importantly, the toilets look super clean and everything works!
haha yes the toilet was spotless, they literally had an attendant clean it after each use!
you should try, they launch new train car on some of the routes and so far it got good reviews

The Indonesia Train revolution is amaze me, even for me as Indonesian. I remember when 2010s people can ride train without ticket, broken toilet, and people can selling their stuff on the train. Then, 2015s i shocked the train station system so organized, people without ticket cannot enter the peron. At 2021 i ride train economy class, but everything is clean. The toilet is working and clean. There is air conditioner.

I kind of missed the sellers on the train though ahaha.
My family sometimes tell stories of delicious shellfish satay they occasionally bought during train travel when I haven't born yet.

@@drippingout6154 karena masih pake rel buatan belanda yang di bangun ratusan tahun yang lalu, dan lebar rel masih 1067 mm,, di Amerika lebar rel rata² 1435 mm ke atas jadi lebih stabil keretanya,,
Was on board with this train from Jakarta to Surabaya.. I am a proud citizen to see the improvements of KAI and yes I had fun and enjoyed the trip.

If you go by train from the southern route... you will get a nice view of the mountains, rice fields, hills... compared to if you take the train from the northern route....
As to the heated seats, Indonesia may feel comparatively hot for foreigners from cooler climates, but the locals may feel cold from time to time. I saw a video of Thais wearing winter clothing when the temps dropped below 21C.
I can't even stay normal using t-shirt below 24°C. I might be a bit different with my friend but i can't live in a cold place since my city only drop to 23°C or below at rainy night.
@@Raven_Ray1 Wow! For me, 24°C is very warm weather. I would be in the shade, in shorts only, and sitting by a fan to cool off.

That's why the government in the current era really emphasizes that development is not concentrated only on Java but also on other islands. Of course, it has its own challenges because Indonesians are moving in droves and settling in Java after completing high school, both in continuing their high school to university and also looking for work when they graduate. The visionary thinking of state leaders must be a strong basis for implementing equitable distribution but also paying attention to the demographic behavior of each region.

I recommend you trip Jakarta -Bandung by train. I was miss missed that trip several years ago because came late unfortunately. And also you now have fast train option to that route. Thank for visiting my country and give us good vibe with your content,

you can book it at: www.kai.id its only available on some routes though (i know it runs from surabaya and yogyakarta to jakarta). When you buy the ticket just search for the train called Argo Semeru Compartment

FYI, nowdays there are many sleeper executive buses from jogja to jakarta with afordable ticket, you can reviewe someday
Re: heating, sometimes it can get cold in Indonesia, for Indonesian standard anyway. There were times in the past when executive trains in Indonesia can get quite cold, because they run the AC in full blast. Back in the '00s I would need jacket and such heavy clothing to ride (executive) train. That wasn't the case anymore, train nowadays aren't so cold even with the AC. Kind a bit hot sometimes even. Still, the heating is probably provided just in case some Indonesians feel certain day's weather and AC is too cold.

Yeah, me too. I feel 16 oC at train feels really cold. Sometime I need to cover my full face with jacket or hat so I can sleep, escially at night train hour
executive seat from jakarta to surabaya cost a bit more but this seat is like heavenly compared to that. wow

actually when you go using priority class (cheaper), it has better toilet, it is more spacy (the size is about twice) than what is shown in this video
