Friday Fun - Behringer Poly D Synth Jam
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 14 авг 2024
- Another impromptu Friday synth jam with the Behringer Poly D triggered by seeing a Behringer post on Fcebook - that the Poly D is Thomann's best selling synth at the moment.
So that into a Zoom MS70-CDR Multi FX with a single Particle Reverb setting and thats about it.

This is by far the best musical demo of the Poly D, which makes me order it as soon as possible. Well done Nick, you made it sing!
By far...
yes i agree. Such Rich Textures. i'm getting that close to getting one
Damn fine coffee here in Twin Peaks
**sigh** And now I want pie.
Lol
Would be very happy to see more of these style video's of Nick playing around with the gear - even as a follow up to the review videos. Not a performance, not a review, not just mindless noodling, good production values.
Nick's improvisations SO good!
I agree. My favorite yet is the outro to Roland SE-02, he nailed that Roland sound so hard I almost wet my pants 😅
My favourite he did is the ms20 desktop review the end tune he plays is fucking amazing
like wise!
The stereo chorus really transforms the Poly-D, from a straightforward analog sound to a spacial, ethereal quality. You really miss it when it's switched off.
That was the warmest, richest, thickest, deepest, smoothest jam I've heard in quite some time. The aural equivalent of floating on a six feet thick duvet in a sea of morphine. Behringer get some grief for their 'clone wars' philosophy, perhaps rightly in some respects. But if they can create OSCs that sound like that, then they deserve some credit as well. The more I hear Mr Nick B play, the more I realise that he's actually an understated synth wizard. He's like the antimatter Rick Wakeman.
@JM Coulon If you think the Neutron is 'one of the best instruments ever made' you're either prone to hyperbole or you haven't much experience of synths.
🌈
Love the Poly D but anyone else agree that the unsung hero of this video is the Zoom pedal? 🤩
I agree! Lovely pedal!
This video really makes that Zoom pedal shine.
I found it glitchy and noisy. Pity.
That reverb is incredible, no doubt. Not gonna lie, I'm surprised that it's so good.
@@monomakes My own Poly D is the same - Quite distorted when on "Poly" setting. It helps a little bit if the VCO output levels are backed off a fair bit, but not much.
😀
Ooops, rushing the upload before going home, that Friday feeling.. :-)
ff_polyd_zoom-final.mp4 will live on in our memories ;)
I'm not surprised Nick! Some lovely, lush tones filled the air. Put Nick in a rush to share!
fiday*
@@funkdungus839 Haha! Well spotted! At least Nick's fingers worked well on the Poly D's keyboard!
@@Barefoot_Joe Inspired by a generic file name, really?
Starting at 7:38 you can hear a nod to the patch he created with the MFB Dominion 1 “chucked” into the Eventide H9.
"You Know What I Need In My Life?... A Whole Bunch Of Ambient Reverb"....... No truer words spoken! :-)
You forgot the most important part of that quote: "...and a synthesizer."
@@YomYestreen a synthesizer is nothing without reverb!!! LOL
When the sound settled around 5:14, that is just absolutely gorgeous. Lovely patch!
Ethereal and potent pairing for the synthesist on a budget. Detected some Dead Cities, Red Seas, and Lost Ghosts era M83 vibes around the 6:30 mark. Yet another in a long line of cracking Friday Fun entries!
😂Brilliant profile picture.
Don’t thank me, thank Axl’s low metabolism coupled with his descent into carbohydrate addiction.
Fantastic pairing of the two. Dreamy for sure! Excellent Friday Fun!
Ive owned this Synth for about 5 months now, I also own a Moog Sub 25, a Korg Prologue 16 and a little Arturia Microbrute Ive owned for the last 4 or 5 years ( i love that little synth ) and I just have to say, the Poly D really does sound great, much better than I expected it to sound. I would say this is the closets you are going to get to an Actual Minimoog without spending thousands of dollars. And it has one more oscillator , its polyphonic ( kinda sorta ) and has a few other features the Minimoog doesnt, its definitely worth the money imo. The only 2 cons I would say is, one, you cant save presets, but thats not a big deal for me, once you live with an analog synth you know how to get the sound you want from it, same as with my Microbrute. The second con is just when you want to play chords in polyphonic mode you have to make sure the master tune knobs is tuned to your track and each individual oscillator is tuned also.
A beautiful sounding synth. Playing with the ambience reminds me of romantic scenes in old 80's dramatic movies like "The Keep".
Or ‘Near Dark’
Both Tangerine Dream!
Please tell Denis Villeneuve to lock Nick in a room with the poly D & a freeze verb for 3 hours to live score the new DUNE.
I think the Behringer Poly D and the Arturia PolyBrute should be the exclusive soundtrack synths on Dune or any sci-fi movie this year. And also: 5:07 blissful moment of a happy accident
Absolutely captivating. Been on the fence on purchasing the Poly D until this video. Just ordered it and the Zoom to go with it. I really do think my life needs more ambient reverb like this. Always a pleasure listening to your music Nick. Thanks for sharing.
Nick, you rule! Please never stop these little performances.
Why on earth did you do this to me. I already made the decision i do not need the Poly D. And now this.
There is need, then there is greed! 😂
Yeah i keep telling myself I'm happy with the free Moog app and a little midi controller but... This certainly has some appeal to it.
@@infn8loopmusic I have more of a first world problem. I already own a bunch of hardwaresynth. And there is no more room in my man cave.😉
@@roland4507I just bought a DeepMind 12, and I'm running out of space too. 😂
@@infn8loopmusic what‘s the current state? I finally gave in 2 weeks ago 🙈
Getting massive Twin Peaks vibes from this. Lovely.
Really good Nick, you have a good ear for those emotional, sometimes sci fi droney pads.
Reminds of the 80s Sci fi shows like doctor who circa 1982 onwards
08:23 the build up on this one is so strong! Dang it 09:23 brought tears to my eyes, Amazing Nick
Still coming back to this
When you get shivers, you know it sounds good.
Thank you so much for these short musical breaks Nick. You really do make Friday Fun.
Loving all your synth reviews! Poly D is truly a magnificent synthesizer just like most of the other Behringer offerings! Truly excellent synths all of them and for the price totally unbeatable! Thank you👍
Behringer certainly had a ringer with the poly d. Mr. Batt, your music-making on that synth is like a mini master class on musical synth-playing. Thank you.
Beautiful video. Very musical and smoothly evolving. I think you had lots of fun doing it. Cheers from Uruguay! 🤗🇺🇾
Dear Nick, always a nice surprise on the Friday! Inspiring, creative and very musical, like your soundscapes ! Thx.
Great video ! Exactly the type of music I want to do..simple chord changes like this with short leads in between...Cheers! Bill.
Really nice one, Nick! Sounds beautiful! Kind of wishing I’d waited and grabbed the Poly D over the Model D. It really has a very nice, classic sound.
Oh don't be disappointed, the Model D is a great instrument for the money and to be honest, the Poly D is designed to be a little different, even tone-wise. You wouldn't be too crazy to get a Poly D at some point to pair with the Model D.
I keep coming back to this jam - so good 💯
Each one of your videos is a masterclass...and I am a mussician for 50 years so far......
Is it me or is Nick underrated
I agree. His noodlings make any synth he plays sound good!
Definitely
Nick kicks this synth to the universe... really nice sound
@Sleeping how about under appreciated, better than you think, he has a great choice of note, there we go choose anyone from 3
Sounds incredible, thank you! The Zoom sounds really good, especially for the price.
I've heard people say it's not great on guitars but the MS70CDR is fantastic for synths.
My Grandmother and Matriarch sound great but not like a Minimoog.
Literally never heard a Poly D sound so good. I'm copying your settings, i'm getting a particle verb and i'm going to town on this thing. Love from a fellow Brit
Just lovely, Nick! When will you release a full album? Thoroughly enjoyed your EP! Cheers
Nick you have done magic with this synthesizer
I'd get on a spaceship and get lost in those sounds... ✨
Always an inspiration, Nick.
Like special food for creativity.
I think behringer owes you some money for the demo you just gave us. You definitely helped them sell some synths with this one
Ambient reverb for the win! Great stuff and great synth... and just look at the Pulsar lurking in the background! I think these would interweave with one another beautifully.
You what I need in my life, a whole bunch of ambient reverb!
Awesome sounds as usual ! Really like those dark drones and pads !
I don’t care what anyone says, you are the original and best synth reviewer in the tube Mr. Batt. Keep on rockin’. Happy Christmas 🎄🎅🏻
Thanks! Wait, who says? 😀
sonicstate Ha! Someone mentioned Loopop but I said sacrilege. 😄
The Zoom did all the work. Even if you plugged an old Casio keyboard into it, it would sound great.
Again, Mad props👌 for using the zoom CDR once more!🎹🎧💫😵😎👍
I'm planing to get one of those... what other video is in?
Last week's Friday fun on Sonicstate.
This is the demo that really makes me want to get this.... proper brooding introspective ambient jams!
Amazing your a legend this all just sounds right up my street your a master of your craft.👍
Remind me some early M83 track !
Lovely patch
Nick, followed you for years. Thanks for your no nonsense reviews. Spent a fortune, thanks to you. Xx
Nick's cover of "Friday" by Rebecca Black is really avant-garde. :O
@Trololo Inc ® xD xD
Her recent collab with Dorian Electra "edge lord" is fie af though. She's a pretty cool lady actually.
You've inspired me to get that pedal. Thank you!
Yes us too - expect to hear it more on #Mairk tracks and at Controlled Voltage.
Why these sound make me so emotional? I'm not joking I've cryied at the middle of the video, this is magic! i hope one day i will get the money to buy it...
Keep on watching this vid. Fantastic - hypnotizing. Just ordered my second Poly D. Just for having it
Superb, I would actually listen to what you're playing as a song. I really like everything from the sounds to the chord voicings.
It really is a great sounding synth too.
This is beautiful, Nick! 🎶🎶🎶
Lovely, lovely, lovely... I need to give that little pedal some more love... Friday fun for me will be to put the Pro1 through it. Haven't done that yet.. Thanks for the inspiration! .
Hey Nick! I can’t help but get Dominion 1 vibes from this. As a fellow D1 user, how do feel they compare? I know the specs of both, so not in that regard. Just talking about the feels and user experience. The one thing I love about this over the D1 is that it’s Poly mode allows you to play one note at a time with only one osc as opposed to the D1 which always stacks them first and then divides them up as more keys are added. Also 4 notes is more useful I feel, chord in the right and base in the left. Also love the built in Juno chorus.
I'm really impressed !!! Nick is the man !!! Well done Nick !! 👏👏👏
Here while it was called ff_polyd_zoom-final.mp4
Here while it was called Fiday Fun.
It's Sturday now, and the video is still called "Fiday Fun".
thanx Nick......you are great
Love these Friday Fun videos. Make me want to spend all my money on synths I don't need.
I am most impressed with the build quallity and the sound quallity. It feels and plays like an expensive synth.
Beautiful jam, Nick!
awesome trip sir, thank you
Wow, that sounds so warm and lush....like slowly sinking into a warm tub.
That thing really comes alive when you bring in the chorus. Great jam.
5:07 That was a really cool sound... Now I want one so I can feedback the chorus and make it go nuts.
Marriage proposal: Ms. Poly D weds my Mr. Moog Sub 37. "If anyone can show just cause why this couple cannot lawfully be joined together in matrimony, let them speak now or forever hold their peace."
I was recently deciding between this synth and Roland JX-08 and the second one seems like a better option, mainly because it can be bought without a keyboard, since I'd like to control it remotely with a MIDI keyboard.
Thanks Nick. That was really good. Nice to see you enjoying yourself :)
Cmon this is so fucking amazing I literally sat down crying man
@ 5.14 oh yessss, that is very nice! Awesome job Nick
Awesome sounding gear perfectly played!
"it's sort of a frozen... You know my thing"😆
Yes I know! Mine too :)
I love these Friday Fun videos, even when I don't care about any of the gear used. Nick can make almost anything sound great. It's hard to go wrong with Nick + heavy reverb + whatever synth is convenient.
I’ve been dying for more examples of using the Poly D in this way. This is beautiful - just ordered one.👍
Beautiful playing, thanks for sharing!
Easy to get lost in that sound. Absolute beauty.
dang, nick is loving it!
Excellent Nick!! You absolutely correct. I do need a load of ambient reverb in my life....
What a beautiful sound!!! Loved this video.
Dominion 1 demo vibe. Happy to hear it again.
Love this demo. I own one and haven’t been able to make it sound this cool. 😂
Great affordable setup !!! Thanks for sharing
Nick you are so skilled its ridiculous
Really enjoyed every second ! And you can never have enough reverb...
What an incredible sound you've created with so little.
This VS Moog Grandmother. This seems really solid and 40 percent less money. Thoughts?
Very different. Grandmother way more flexible. But this does sound good too
@@sonicstate dang. Thanks Nick. I love these pads with the zoom pedal.
Lovely, as always. Thank you Mr. Batt
Thanks Nick - nice ambient end to the week.
Just acquired both together, had to be done ✔ You're very inspirational Mr B always look for Sonic Lab vids first........ then loopop 🎧🎹🎹🎧
Is the mininova anywhere near this thing please I know nothing and bought mini
Thank you for this video, Nick. I'm guessing that for many of us, a desktop/rack version of this (sans keyboard) would be greatly appreciated. Studio space is always at a premium, and I cannot justify yet another full-sized 37-key synth taking up valuable real estate.
Yes I hope Behringer will release it as a module.
Uli please 🙏
... but module have no aftertouch Master
having had one of these since it was released i can say to anybody who actually likes TONE and SYNTHS to get one, it is a beautifully made instrument and has that sound in bucketloads
hell yeah, but the EGs it has and lack of a patchbay or mod matrix are deal breakers for me
@@Jason75913 : looks like you're missing the point here: this machine is meant to be an upgraded clone of the original model D. If you want a patch bay, just buy a Behringer model D. And if you want another EG, well, buy another synth. Same with the mod matrix: the Matrixbrute, the SyntRX or the Vostok are here for you.
@@jeanbonnefoy1377 the Model D? that's a laugh
"buy another synth"
literally my expressed point
@@Jason75913 Why should anyone care what synth you buy or don't buy. Go make music.
Licinius Varrus Minimoog never needed that. It’s all about TONE.
Hi ,very ,very great sound friend. Good work
Loving the sound of this. 5:17
I know this is 2 years old.. could you please tell me what you are running everything into?? Is it from the zoom to a daw system or EQ?? Is this playing through a speaker? Im working on a home setup and need some help understanding.
From the zoom out into a mixer which feeds the speakers and also the soundcard ( mixer has built-in USB audio interface) no EQ
Great demo of Model D with a very interesting pedal. Big thanks for this one!
Wonderful sound indeed! Nice chords! Got the Zoom effect too. For people who don't know it, it's a HELL LOTTA EFFECTS for the money, and you can stack up to 5 effects and save that as a preset. And it generally sounds quite good.
I ponder the fact that you can get 3x zooms for the same price as 1 big sky. btw, there is a software upgrade if yours is older.
Going crazy looking for my 1st synth. Gotta say, after listening to 1,300,580 various synth demos, so far, this has the best sound(s). Is it Nick or Behringer Poly D? I like the sound of Moog but this has 4 voices. I understand the basics of synths (very basic) I've always wanted a Prophet 12, but for the money and sound - this one has me thinking about changing my mind. I play guitar and have some great Strymon pedals plus a few others - so I have no doubt i can make various sounds, but when creating something, the basic bottom thing has to be there and that basic bottom is the sound which this has. Trudging on to the next demo....
It's a combo of Nick, the Poly D and the Zoom. Your Strymons will actually bring a lot of this sound (the Zoom does quite a bit of heavy lifting), but as you say, for the money, this seems pretty great. I keep coming back to this video all the time and each time, I lust for a Zoom and a Poly D, but honestly, you can conjure these sounds out of pretty much any polyphonic synth, be it analogue or VA. You can't really go wrong, especially if it's your first synth
@@GuidoGautsch - Well, I finally made the commitment and a big one - Prophet 12. Should be here today. Don't know if I'm more nervous or excited. Got a lot to learn.
@@jacksprat3009 awesome! Enjoy ☺️
Oi Nick! Lovely stuff!
Was wondering if using the feedback loop with chorus engaged will skew the chorus effect to one side more than the other (depending on the amount of volume coming into the ext input)?
If the left channel with chorus is fed back wont the chorus be stronger in the left channel even tho the ext input is mono? Meaning it will amplify the left channels chorus?
Or maybe the ext in will go thru the chorus again and get spread L/R correctly?
Cheers
Trop beau; ça m'a fait beaucoup de bien.
man this guy is sick
