I see a lot of people think Candy Apples was fake for the show. Partially true. Candy Apples is a real dance studio in Canton Ohio and they are a competition studio. They were the original studio picked to be on DM, but after Cathy was informed about all the setups that were going to happen, she said no and backed away. They still needed her on the show however because she’d already signed a contract so she agreed to a “guest” role and ALDC was the studio picked as the main focus. After seeing the drama that was created, Cathy pulled her daughter and all her dancers away from the show, but due to contracts still had to appear, so that’s when they started bringing in the random dancers from all around. She didn’t want the show to damage her kids or their future careers. Some of her dancers are very technically trained and actually dance with ballet company as well - which is known to lead several to bigger ballet companies such as NY. I’m from Massillon which is a small town next to Canton so I’m quite familiar with CA and the drama that’s gone on. Cathy’s been very open (as have others) that Lifetime & Collins Ave are scummy and only in it for the money.

I would actually love to know more about the casting for dance moms. I've heard many different things, like that it was a documentary about competitive dance and was supposed to focus on many different studios, and the moms were casted but not the kids, etc... but like why Abby? How'd they pick that studio because I may not be from Pittsburgh but I have a feeling the Aldc is not the best studio there.
Bella Rose it was meant to be series about competitive dance and was supposed to follow a different studio every season (with 6 episodes per season). It was meant to focus on the world of competitive dance and what the mom’s go through for their kids and how hard the kids train and sacrifices they make. When you hear the OG’s interviews, the ORIGINAL OG’s went through an open call casting and were cast by producers based on their talent and their moms - they weren’t an ALDC team before the show. Abby got extremely lucky. She was in financial ruin and about to shut down the studio. She submitted for the show and was NOT selected but when Cathy tried to back out, they went back to Abby and offered it to her because Pittsburgh is a relatively easy 2 hour drive from Canton and because they already had Cathy locked in as a guest, it made sense to pick a close location. I don’t know how many other Pittsburgh studios submitted, if at all. I don’t even remember the original call for studios (and back then I was acting and on forums that post open calls for reality shows) so either they did it privately or it was not highly received. Also, by that point in time, people were beginning to realize how fake reality tv actually is. There was an awesomenesstv (RUclips) series about competitive cheer that was very real and most people were growing distrustful of television (even as early as season 2 you can find online forums where people were posting evidence of how the show was fake). The show blew up and Abby had money to keep the studio open and it kept being renewed for more and more seasons with the same cast. By that point you know the producers kept setting up more and more drama - hence the rotating cast. They actually tried to do a spin off for the off season called Dance Moms: Miami (Lucas’s home studio). It flopped tremendously. It seemed less produced that the original dance moms so I don’t know if they were trying to make it more real or if people were just so invested in the original by that point that they didn’t accept the Miami one.
The whole situation with Brigitte manipulating a child is absolutely disgusting. Wow.

Bridgette was speaking about Gino’s mother in a vulgar way and she kept trying to get Mackenzie Morales to repeat the phrase on camera. Mackenzie kept saying no but Bridgette wouldn’t leave her alone so she said it. Bridgette kept it on her phone and when she found out that the Morales twins went to one of Abby’s open call auditions, she sent the video to Melissa to make Mackenzie look like a rude kid, even though she basically kept pestering her to say it.
Can you make a video about the racism that the producers and abbey were accused of. Looking throughout the series, people of color (Black, Latino, Asian, etc) tend to be stereotyped negatively and given “villain”/ aggressor edits. I would find it interesting to see a video covering the topic since I haven’t seen anyone do a full video on it

What happened to the Morales kids was disgusting and Bridget, Abby and others involved should all be ashamed of themselves. My heavens these were kids for crying out loud. I'm so angry they had to go through that.
I feel really bad for the Morales kids. I always knew that Lucas and his mom were terrible once the stupid thing came out. Like that lady was so desperate to get on the team. Body shaming and just plotting to go against some kids for a spot on the team is despicable. I also feel bad for Chloe being humiliated with the commercial. It was pretty pointless and it was just to have Chloe look dumb. Abby is terrible and so is Melissa for allowing this behavior. Melissa has always been so two faced.

Ilsen Leon DM:M launched a few seasons after DM. It was meant to be aired during DM’s “off season” but it lasted 1 season and then was not renewed. Lucas was originally on DM:M but after it was cancelled was invited to DM because he was a fan favorite

1. Yes, they knew what they would be getting into, and a lot of them just did it for money, but once they found out what the producers were doing, they were already bound by contract, so they couldn't get their kids out of it.
2. Some of them probably didn't want to believe that Abby Lee was as bad as everyone said she was. Especially some of the S8 Moms or S1 Moms. The S1 Moms had no way of knowing how bad it was. The S8 Moms, thought that, who knows, maybe Abby has changed for the better.
3. Also, a lot of them thought it would be good opportunity for their kids. They probably figured Abby was nice in person, and just mean on camera.
Hollywood is full of scumbags and psychopaths.
I personally know Joanne Morales and her kids and all I can say is that woman is a badass! She whole heartily loves her kids and would do anything for them!

The anxiety came from being on dance moms and the treatment from Abby and Bridgette
It is absolutely TERRIFYING how much control Lifetime had and still has over these people's lives. Even Abby, whether you love her or hate her, her name and company literally BELONG to Lifetime.
And people wonder why the Zeiglers distanced themselves as far as possible from anything dealing with the show, to the point of not even mentioning it or the studio.

I remember the whole thing with the morales kids unfolding. I followed Jo on tumblr. I stopped watching religiously at that point because I was so upset for McKenzie (and Gavin). They are so talented and didn’t deserve that.

What I still want to know is how Kaya and Nicaya got on the show. They make it seem like they just came to the ALDC concert but they were actually on the show so lifetime has to have something to do with it ....
Lindsey Schaap they auditioned for AUDC and were part of the final cut, but they were put on dance moms when producers found out that Kaya had known someone who was good friends with Cathy (therefore there was a relationship between the two)

I think the producers told Jill to storm out, but they never gave Kendall the heads up first. So I think Kendall thought she was ACTUALLY dancing with the Candy Apples. I assume when they got in the car Jill told Kendall that it was all set up.

The thing that made it obvious that Candy Apples was a fake storyline was the season where Cathy poached a dream team of choreographers and dancers from all over the country. If you add up all of the expenses involved, you would have a 7 figure competition team. There is NO CHANCE that Cathy was making enough money off of that studio to justify the costs and just "beating Abby" wouldn't have been worth it either. It was the moment Dance Moms degenerated into a farce for me.

Because at first Dance Moms wass actually intended to focus on more than one studio, but after season two it was clear it wasn't Cathy's real dancers from her studio anymore. I didn't know they were the original studio though! I thought it was supposed to be multiple studios, Abby's and Cathy's included

Hi, new subscriber here. Just wanted to say thank you for keeping me entertained in quarantine with this really cool and informative series.
Please do a video about what it was like behind the scenes of dance moms! So like what school was like, when the cameras weren’t rolling, how Abby and the moms acted when cameras weren’t on, and how the girls really feel about each other.
I feel sooooooo bad for poor chloe😢😢
I understand that without the drama that the show wouldn’t be interesting. I get that you need to have conflict to create tension and suspense. I understand that some would like less drama on the show and I completely agree. Some fights I completely understand why they happened. Others like the Jill and the costume I find completely stupid. I’m not blaming any of the cast for their actions because they were under contract and it either you listen to the producers or quit. However that might be harder than they thought since they were stuck in the show for 6 seasons, with Kelly and Christi being the exception at least out of the OG moms. This is probably why I can’t stand season 6-8. The show became more about drama every single episode. There were rarely any genuine moments. Season 5 I’m mixed on since I haven’t seen much of it but I call it the transition season. Go back to the first 4 seasons and see how times the characters were just talking and hanging out. Yeah it lead to drama sometimes but some of my favorite moments are where the characters are having fun like Kelly and Christ having fun in Chicago riding the subway, the characters trying a wrap to loose weight, Jill taking care of broadway baby, the moms working together to make costumes, the wedding dress fiasco, and celebration they had after beating Cathy. Even some the behind scenes are funny and enjoyable.
Although I like the show and some of the characters, I do hate some of the drama and fights. I still call the water fight iconic.
Despite what a lot of people say I actually like Jill and Cathy. Most of the time they are so crazy that you just want to sit and laugh at them. Yeah they have annoying moments like every other character but I forgive them. Most of the moms I really do like. There are a few I don’t. Most of the lasted not very long. They were either uninterested or did something I didn’t like. But then again they were probably forced to say of the lines I don’t like but producers gave us something good and that was none other than Queen Holly. She the main reason I watch any episode after Season 4

_Kids Treatment_
I hate how all the kids were treated. They didn't deserve this, especially McKenzie and Gavin Morales. It hurts to see how sadly all of them were treated at such a young age. It's also sad when they blame Abby for everything. I mean sure, she's done many things that are very upsetting, but they need to think of the producers. They stage and influence everything, and hurt everyone's feelings for the money.

Regarding Anthony, he should have never done anything that he did, and it was super rude. But, when Abby made fun of 'A Father's Song's, which was super rude and sad, because of Anthony's loss.
