Harry Chapin will live forever in the hearts of millions and millions of people he touched with his music and his gentle heart.

I was lucky enough to see Harry live 2 or 3 times. It seems like every time he was wearing this shirt. Maybe he had a dozen of them, but it still speaks to me about how little he was focused on himself as a rock star but instead on his message to us about what we might do to make our planet a better place by understanding and respecting the experiences of others.

This song moves me to tears, ever since the first time I ever heard it. I heard it about 40 or 50 years ago, and it still touches me to the core.
I know no one will see it for this meaning, but it hits me this way. I feel like a woman saw something in the sky and then it came down in a human form. She befriended it. Nurtured it taught it to survive and hoped that some day it could love.
One day as the alien said it was time to depart, it showed how it would always remember her, by leaving her children, in human form and mind.
She watched him leave, one starless night, and when she looked up into the night, the one and only star that was looking back was him.

@innamorata40 It's almost as if Harry wrote this song for Pat Benatar to perform. Her rendition is absolutely fantastic !

Pat Benatar's live version at his tribute concert was the best!

Often post that's as if Harry wrote the song for Pat to perform. She did a great tribute.

I felt Pat's love for Harry in every word that that she sang. That is what made her version so great!

His family is still honoring his one concert for me, for one for the other guy by splitting the income from his music with his charities. He wrote this song about his grandfather, but it fits him just as well.

A thought about charity work. In spring 2007 my father-in-law died. Our part was $5000 & a church graveyard plot. My maternal grandmother died @100 in August 2007. Well I couldn't come up with those costs. Ultimately my grandmother was cremated; then my mother. Why are we spending these large sums of $? We should cremate and put that funeral expenses into charities. There will always be high $ funerals but for what purpose? If anyone cremates then they should get govt tax incentives for this.

classy guy. Notice how he often looks at his band members when their participation becomes important. In other words, he takes the spotlight off himself and shines it on others. That was Harry....Completly Altruistic. He shined the spotlight on so many.
