I remember going to a rage against the machine concert in the 90s. The only place we were recording was in our memories. The only electric thing on stage was the amp. The lyrics were about cultural imperialism, oppression and issues affecting all of us. Music from this era often (not always) had a deeper message and inspired action by the younger masses. Every 5-8 years, mass media comes out with the tired old “sexy diva” act. Avril, Kylie, Kesha, Pink, JLo, Carly Rae, Ellie, Dua, Doja, Selina, Britney, Billie, Gaga…. The list goes on and on and on. A few exceptions like Taylor Alicia, Ariana, Gaga and maybe Alicia; but in general, they are all the same. 4 chords, 2 beat changes, sexy body, pretty face, ex boyfriend lyrics, and increasingly sex appeal concerts. Innovation in this genre began and ended with Madonna. Truly…I feel bad for this generation and the utter absence of creativity, substance and talent in popular music. I hope the internet crashes for like a year. It would help this generation wake up and experience the real world independent of views and subscribers.
