Thank you for this video! I haven't bought an NHL game since the 2017 version, and honestly it doesn't look like a whole lot has changed. I sprung for this one because of the Wings' new arena, and the Kraken! Excellent info. Cheers!
Hey Nick! It was my pleasure! :) Glad that it was helpful for you. I wouldn't say that a TON has changed in terms of the core elements, but you can see the smaller details that have changed over the last 5-6 games in this video. Enjoy and feel free to drop a question if anything ever comes up! :)
58:00- A word of warning for those Morale players. Changing captaincy's will drop morale majorly (assuming they haven't changed this from NHL 18 or 21). So, say your 10+ year captain retires and the computer auto-assigns the C to someone you want to have an A or nothing at all, stripping his captaincy will drop his morale....even though you didn't technically give it to him.
Being a Brit its not a natural game. So menu explanations, terminology and the running of the (windy) draft are so helpful. The game is so deep to. I have watched it and will need to run it again to get a better understanding. Sometimes because screens are so full of lists, info, menus, stats it tends to speed across important points- I dont know where to look before it has moved on. Hence the re-runs. Thank you so much. I hope i find more videos explaining tactics etc as at the moment I dont know what I'm doing. Oh yes last thing - GO LEAFS
Hi there, Ian! So glad to have been of service to you! :) I understand what you're saying! Please feel free to leave any questions that you may have along the way and good luck to the Leafs! ;)
Absolutely awesome video. Organized, information packed. Only been a hockey fan for a couple years and nhl 23 is the first sports game I've ever played. I'm finally starting to understand it! Thanks man!
Thanks Jason!! Super glad to hear that it was helpful for you! Best of luck in your NHL 23 endeavours and feel free to leave any questions as they may arise! :)
Had to drop a comment saying how great this was. Been a casual hockey fan the past few years so my hockey knowledge is pretty limited. This was the first NHL game I've bought, helped a lot mate. Cheers!
Hey Patrick thank you so much for saying so! :) Super glad to hear that the video has been helpful! Please feel free to leave any questions that you may have along the way and thanks again!
I normally play BAP. I've touched on franchise a little bit, but have decided to share time between it and BAP. You touch on a lot of great points that were either confusing or I was overlooking completely. I actually took notes. I'm going to restart my franchise game freshly armed with the knowledge you've imparted. Many thanks. And I obviously subscribed. Lol
Hey Bob! I'm so glad to hear that the video was helpful! :) If you're playing on NHL 23, this is the guide for you but know that I also have an updated version for NHL 24 that may include a few other interesting tidbits that are applicable! ruclips.net/video/qQBla3YQ5OI/видео.html You pass with flying colours for your notes! 😂 There's a committed player! Thank you for the subscription and please feel free to leave any questions as they arise during your time playing! You can also follow along with any of my many own Franchise Mode series on the channel for a kind of template, or even join our Discord server to be a part of other FM discussion discord.com/invite/rRDYpTx Thanks for the kind words and all the best. Good luck!
Hey Mark! Thank you so very much! :) Super glad that this is/has been helpful for you! Feel free to leave any questions as they may arise as you navigate NHL 23!
Hey Data, I'm new to this franchise and this video was incredibly helpful so thanks for the time you took to make it. Two questions that I had before I really dive in, both related to player progress. 1) Does it benefit you to have an AHL coach with a similar playing style to your NHL head coach? 2) Do player preferences change as they stay in your system? For example, can a Carry player become a Dump player eventually if he has enough time in your system? Keep up the great content.
Hey there Ethan! So glad to hear that this video was helpful for you! :) In regard to your questions.. 1. In past games, yes, absolutely. However, in NHL 23, there is a heavy emphasis on X-Factors over line fit when it comes to line chemistry. Therefore, the ease of eventually transferring a player from AHL line 1 to NHL line 1 no longer matters as players with perfect line scores will still lack chemistry unless they have X-Factors. There was no other real benefit to having identical coaches aside from not having to worry about two different systems. Without line scores really mattering anymore, I just choose the best coaches available who have decent team fits. 2. No, these do not change! You would think that changing over time would make sense haha but no, a player will always keep those same preferences. A coach's preferences, however, will change if they are ever fired or released from a team! Once signed, though, coach preferences do not change over time, either. Let me know if that answers your questions and feel free to leave any others! :)
@@Data782 Hey thanks for getting back to me and those were exactly the kind of answers I was looking for. That is too bad though in both cases. I really like games where the development and chemistry are tied to time playing in the system. But that's okay, I'll get used to the X-Factors. And picking the best AHL coach no matter what.
24:20 yeah idk why they did that this year, it’s actually impossible to keep your stadium kept clean, your given a max budget on how much u can spend and it’s never enough specially for 23. In 22, as long as you was on top of it, your stadium would be well kept from Preseason-Cup Presentation. & let’s not even start on upgrading your facilities. I tried to upgrade & spent 3/4 my budget before the season started. I just feel that it’s unrealistic. 30:17 1 thing they need to fix on trades is every once and awhile I’ll get a trade request from another team with the option to Accept, Decline, or Edit the trade & the issue is I always have to go to edit to see the trade value that team is trying to send me, I should not have to always have to go to the edit page to see if the trade is something I want to do, and that’s not the reason for the edit option. That value bar should already be on the original pop up. 30:55 perfect example. You see no trade value bar to see if that trade is worth it or not, and u won’t unless you edit the trade.
Appreciate the clarity on everything, I always come back to this even though I know most of it 😆. There is one thing I haven’t been able to overcome though. To build a deep team, you will have to be using 2nd line forwards on your 3rd line and 3rd line forwards on your 4th line. The problem with this is that their ratings and morales go down due to ice time, and even with special team distribution to your “ 1 Role Bellow expected players”, I find it very difficult to keep their ice time high enough not to regress. Is there a certain minimum threshold in time a player has to play so that he doesn’t regress or lose morale by being played 1 line below their current role?
Hey bud, my pleasure! :) I appreciate your support! I see what you're saying. In short, the answer is no - there is no official "threshold" when it comes to how much time a player needs to get to continue to grow. I associate the required time to what I'd expect a player of his role would expect. For example, a 3rd line player who you're putting on your 4th line should be getting what he would expect to get on the 3rd line (maybe 11-13 minutes). I wouldn't say that it's necessary to play players one role below to have a championship team, but it does help. That's another reason why I prefer to keep morale off. If a player is a perfect 3rd line fit and has been playing well there, I'm not going to blow up my team to get him onto the 3rd line just to keep him happy because I'm sure he'd be very happy if he's still getting ice time, making money, scoring points, winning Cups, etc. Another thing I do to reduce growth being lost is wait until the deadline to make a move. If I have a 3rd line guy who I need to bump to the 4th after 65 games because I'm bringing in someone better for the 3rd line, I can swallow him losing out on ice time for the next 15-20 games in the name of better team success. I'm rambling a bit now but I hope that helps! Let me know if I can add my thoughts on anything else :)
Hey there! Great to hear from a veteran! I've been playing Franchise/GM/Dynasty Mode for a while myself so it's nice to know that we're still out there! ;) Glad to know that I was able to teach you something new! You're absolutely right - we're always learning! Feel free to leave any questions that may arise as you continue to play and best of luck!
Would like to hear a list of the bugs that are specific to Franchise mode. I know they just fixed the Offer sheet not getting or requiring picks to sign restricted free agents. The created player skating bug is back from NHL 22, not sure how that is possible. But what else is there? Also how is the AI with trades and signing players? I have seen them making trades for restricted free agents and then either not having room to sign their own players or not signing the restricted free agent they just traded for... I know there is more, but those are a few glaring ones. I am not meaning to bash EA, but before I buy the game I would like to know exactly what I am getting into. Thanks for the time and the content Data, it is appreciated
Hey Heath! I think you could get a pretty complete list of FM bugs by checking out my NHL 23 FM Wishlist (ruclips.net/video/3K5_CuxuyPI/видео.html). None of the 22 bugs have been fixed so the video still applies haha. And yes, AI GMs are still as bad as ever in terms of not signing/trading for what they need, having massive cap issues, not signing players who would help them who are sitting in free agency, and so on. Let me know if that gives a comprehensive enough understanding and much love!
Imagine from the beginning of the franchise mode window that you could also select the year you want to start, id love to see that option where i start i dont know in 1950 and you get to play each season and see how different the years.... i know theres probably lists you can download that are custom made, but its not the same, going back to the 1950s there were no salary cap or salary for the matter, it would in turn become a great tool to teach how hockey and the NHL came to be till this day, i dunno, i think that would be a hit.
I 100% agree!! That would be an amazing feature! Many of those legends are already in the game, it shouldn't be so hard to create accurate era-specific rosters, even if you could only do, say, five years or whatever the limit would be in the mode. Maybe for NHL 32! Appreciate your thoughts ;)
Hey there! It was my pleasure! In my honest opinion, there isn't much of a difference from 21 to 23. The biggest pull for me would be roster sharing, but that's available in 22 if you wanted a cheaper upgrade. Wishing you the best in your Franchise Mode experience! ;)
Great vid that I keep coming back to- let's have a moment of silence for the end of the 85% trick. I still use it as a basis for underbidding, but players rarely take it unless team morale is super high
Thanks Tim! Yes, the 85% trick isn't always a guarantee but I do have to say that I still find it to work a fair amount of the time - especially with morale turned off! Like you said, a great basis nevertheless but can't always be relied upon. I appreciate your continued support! :)
@@Data782 Yeah I wouldn't know about it sans morale- leaves a lot to be desired(here's hoping) but I like the variability it adds and it's tolerable w morale meetings off
I was reminded forcibly of my comment today so I thought I'd offer a cohort of 1 update on 85%. After back to back Cup wins, the chickens came home to roost as the majority of my young hotshots all needed contract negotiation the same year and all asked at *least* 10M. The rejections to 85% numbers rolled in till I hit the response from the 21yo franchise player who the whole thing is built around, gladly accepting the 85% number w no complaint. Kid doesn't know it yet, but he just saved our hockey club. So maybe it doesn't work a lot anymore, at least w morale on. But when it works- holy Moses, what a relief.
Thank you Data! My biggest issue with this game mode is… that you are unable to Turn on or off retired numbers in custom franchise!!! Crazy. Gretzky is 99 and Mario is 65…..for a mode where you can create historical teams etc… this is a huge flaw
That is a GREAT point!! I never encountered that because I've never used alumni players in FM aside from one-off simulations but I absolutely see how frustrating that would be! I'll be sure to include this point in the future when I talk about ways in which the mode could be improved! Appreciate you leaving it :)
@@Data782 Thank you for the reply. Its such a simple thing, yet to offline players who enjoy the art of Creating… it’s vital… to the point where I know people who will not buy the game for that specific reason. (Just play 22 instead) I do hope they can fix this in a future patch
I created a bunch of players with low overalls but with Franchise/Low potential. I drafted them in the fantasy draft in custom league. I signed a bunch of better players in free agency during pre-season. I use best lines, and have NHL and Minor League coach settings on. The head coach won't send the low overall guys down or raise better ones up. For example best line wouldn't send Mario Lemieux back up to the NHL. Is there a way to make sure coaches use the entire system to make best lines? Or do I just have to wait until injuries?
Hey Alexander! Using best lines and auto coaching settings will take care of your lines but, unless your roster becomes illegal due to a trade or injury (therefore allowing you to press the "best roster" option that will pop up), you have to make NHL/AHL roster decisions on your own. To do this, go to "roster moves" which I explain at 51:34. Essentially, you decide who plays in the NHL/AHL and then your coaches can take care of the rest! Let me know if that answers your question and feel free to leave more :)
@@Data782 dude thanks for getting back to me so quick. Yes, turning injuries up all the way, which is how I play, brought me somewhere happy with it. I just put all the created guys ovr 53-69 in the AHL for realism purposes, even though they're probably better than the 82s who play, due to their all-or-nothing attribute lines. Do you think turning off "Head Coach Edits Lines" and waiting for the "Best Roster" prompt does a more complete job of mixing than just leaving on Edits Lines and letting injuries do their thing? Also, I'm playing as a Substituted Team. I still have a bunch of guys from the SHL team I replaced. I can't trade them. There's no info about their contract length either. Do they ever leave the team?
My pleasure! How do you find it to be wth the injury slider at 100/100? Would you say the majority of players miss some games? That's a good question. Honestly, I never play with "head coach edits lines" on so I couldn't tell you for sure but what I CAN tell you is that the game will never do roster moves on its own no matter what. Because they don't want to mess with waiver stuff, you'll have to do it yourself or hit that "Assistant GM Best Roster" every time you no longer have enough players. If I were you, playing with this approach and not caring about my own personal lines/special teams, I would turn the head coach off and hit "best lines" or "best roster" each time it pops up for whatever injury. HOWEVER, if it started to pop up way too often since the injury slider is so high, I would likely keep the "head coach edits lines" on and check in on the roster/make moves every once in a while since there may not always be enough going on for the "best roster" prompt to pop up. It's a difficult question and comes down to your own approach! For your second question, I'm in the same situation right now in my expansion Franchise Mode series on the channel haha. For me, I see that all of the SHL guys are signed for one year so I'm assuming that they will be gone after my first season. If not, try exploring free agency and see if they're there. If they are, sign them and then try to trade them after they sign. If you can't trade them right now, it's because they play for you but you don't actually have their rights. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something, but that would be my first idea. Let me know!
@@Data782 I will say that with injuries juiced, and with hitting power, size/speed effect etc. juiced, with fatigue effect at 100 and recovery at 0, each team will get the guaranteed maximum of 4 out-for-game injuries (10 min periods). Plus an untold number of playable injuries that maybe only last the game. I haven't looked deep enough into the in-match pause-menu to see what these minor injuries are... but between the injuries and game misconducts (from juiced hitting), virtually every game by the third period you are (especially as the user making dumb (but fun) game miscos) playing with pretty much a crew of 5 skaters. This might have something to do with fatigue as well, where certain guys just have better-enough endurance to supersede shift changes. Otherwise, maybe it's single-game injuries causing the lack of shifts (which I don't mind, it adds an interesting chess-like element). The reason I get the for-sure number of 4 lasting unplayable injuries per game, is because every team we face has that many in the injury report. That, combined with the late-game lack of shifting. All that said, I'd say at least 85% of the injuries only cause the guy to miss the next one or two games.
@@Data782 I'm on NHL 23 and it just gives a dash "-" for the contract length, salary, etc. I will try what you said about free agency and get back to you.... My player pool is huge because I traded all alumni squads (pen and paper to keep track of duplicate guys who played for multiple alumni teams or still play in the NHL) to fill out a 48 team roster with the normal full modern roster plus the best of the SHL/DEL/ICE guys... so there's a lot of guys rotting in free agency to search through lol.
I love the video, certainly has helped me. The one question I have is how do you simulate your seasons? Do you simulate game by game or do you do it months at a time?
Thanks Wally, that's so great to hear! :) Do you mean how do I personally simulate my seasons? In the regular season, I usually go to the calendar and sim weeks at a time, stopping at games that I think are important to slow sim them and watch the action unfold period by period. In the postseason, I continue to go game by game. That's just for my RUclips series, though! When I used to just play Franchise on my own, I'd actually play the majority (if not all) of the games and do 2-3 seasons per game that came out. Simming like how I mentioned initially, however, will allow you to get through maaaany more seasons and even do multiple organizations. Best of luck and feel free to leave any other questions that you may have! :)
i like to sim the regular season then play the playoffs but that’s just me it gives me the fun management aspect while also getting to play (and you don’t get the bs ea sim ruining a good team in the playoffs)
Good stuff though I came here originally looking for answers to the roster shuffle the AI seems to unavoidably do at the first new preseason you get to which sends most of your main players to the AHL and promotes a bunch slackers you've been meaning to cut. 😂 😅 I'm sure it's a well hidden toggle somewhere that I can't find SMH. Wouldn't mind a breakdown on prospects and when you can/can't promote them from foreign leagues, ups, downs, growth impact factors, etc. You seem to do good work 😊
Hey there! Thanks so much for the kind words! :) Unfortunately there's nothing you can do about the AI roster shuffle to start the season, but thankfully the waivers are not yet active so it's easy to make the fixes! Just frustrating to fix the entire lineup every season 😭 But no, no hidden toggle even if you set everything to manual. For a breakdown on prospects and the intricacies of what goes into development, much could be said! In general, to answer what you mentioned, I can tell you that, if you sign a rookie to an entry-level contract who is under 20, they must play in the NHL or be sent back to their junior team UNLESS they are from any non-Canadian junior league (QMJHL/WHL/OHL). If they are from USA Central, SHL, Russia, etc., then they will be in your AHL system once you sign them and cannot be sent back to wherever you drafted them from. That's why I wait to sign any prospect under 20 from a Canadian league until they can make the NHL roster OR that they must be signed before becoming a free agent, but MIGHT sign a prospect from another league who is 17-19 and play them in the AHL if they are a high enough overall to get good ice time. Basically, I'll consider signing a prospect once they're like 75+ overall or I'll just leave them unsigned until I have to either sign or release. For growth factor impacts, maximize chemistry, ice time, and linemates as much as possible. There are my quick thoughts but feel free to leave any other questions that you might have!
Great deep dive! So if I understand well, unless you ''cheat" by adding X-Factor to everyone of your players, you can't get +5 on all line like you used to? You know, by managing coaches and actual line fits :)
Thank you kindly! And that's pretty much the case haha. Even if you have a line score of, say, 8, and you are using a SNP/PLY/PWF combo, without X-Factors, that line will have a 0 for chemistry. You'll need an almost perfect line score just to get the smallest of boosts. Very different than past games. Hope that helps and good luck!
@@Data782 It helps me understand (thank you!) but not quite to win haha! Struggling to find ways to maximise simulation, my team is quite far in the standings despite a more than respectable team (Landeskog Stutzle, Caulfied is my first line right now)
Good vid, I wish I had turned off gm firing lol, Btw, there is another category other than leader or neutral, player can also have the title of "presence"
Ok How about this. I made my user custom team with a small market size but a hardcore fan base and the max local prestige. I check a few games into the season after blowing my operations budget, and my market size is already medium. I also made a rival custom team with elite/top/large market, level 3 arena components, etc... and they are also listed as a Medium market team. What gives?
Honestly, I wish I had an answer for you 😂 It may be some predetermined setting that forces teams to have medium market size when certain components are present, but I really don't know the game logic for why.
@@Data782 probably the hardcore fanbase bumps it up for my underdog team, and probably the max-creation-zone-arena levels (only 3/5) nerfs the showtime rivals I created. I'll let you also know whether they choose the 99 goalie or 99 center first in fantasy draft
Hi Data, Thank you so much for the knowledge and help with your videos. Franchise mode is way better with knowing what I’m supposed to be doing. Keep up the great work! I’m in Year 2 now and accumulated several draft picks (14) for the 2024 draft. I cannot find or remember if you said there is a limit on the draft picks tho? Ty
Hey there bud! It's my pleasure! :) Thank you for leaving the kind words! Nope, there is no limit for draft picks! In theory, you could acquire every pick if you so desired but I have seen extreme cases where the game will crash if you have like 100+ picks haha. But no, no need to worry about a maximum - especially for 14 in a draft. Feel free to leave any other questions and enjoy!
What's the fairest amount over asking to offer free agents and still get them to possibly sign? (No salary cap). Like do you have a 50% chance of signing the guy at 1 million over asking? Let's say 10 teams are interested in a guy, how much should I offer if I want a 10% chance of getting the guy? I want a decent chance of picking up new pieces without managing a cap OR cheesing the game with ridiculous offers.
It's impossible to give you an exact percentage as other factors go into a player's decision making process, but $500k-$750k over asking is usually the range of high probability that a player will sign with you. The more teams that are interested, the higher you should go. In my experience, $1M over asking is probably the max and I've never seen an AI team offer more than that
@@alexandermccormick1413 Trial and error! The AI will very rarely overpay by more than about $500k which makes a ceiling of $750k a good cushion 99% of the time
Thanks for the video it’s really helpful. I’m new to NHL 23 and never played any of the others. I live in Washington and used to play a lot of NBA Live as the sonics until our team was stolen, lol. Now that we have the Kraken wanted to get into this game but finding the proper settings for cpu vs cpu play is really difficult. How do I lock in playing as coach before games? When I press the left stick button it only gives me the option for selecting players. I’m getting older and would rather play as GM and coach and watch the cpu vs cpu games.
Hey there, Scott! It was my pleasure! I think you already got it! By pressing L3 on the left stick, you rotate through the player positions as well as "CO" which is coach! It's the last one in the rotation. Let me know if that helps and best of luck as you enjoy Franchise! :)
One thing ive always wondered is if you do a franchise mode with an expansion team you start before the entry draft but it’s surely technically already happened as the real life rookies are all on their teams…. So if you do it again there’s actually going to be two guys with picked 1 in 2022 for example on their info screen surely? Seems a bit odd you cant start the game pre entry draft with the real draft class and all the notable rookies to select from. Unless you can and im incorrect?
I know exactly what you're saying! If you do an expansion franchise (say in NHL 23), when you get to the 2022 draft, it will actually be a complete re-do of the draft (with generated players added, as well). This means that Slafkovsky, Wright, Jiricek, etc., will now all be drafted to presumably different teams. So, to answer your question, there won't be any doubles. As far as I know, there is no option to start a franchise mode after the 2022 draft when doing an expansion team because the expansion draft will take place before the beginning of the 2022 offseason headed into the 2022-23 season. Hope that helps and feel free to leave any other questions that you may have! :)
Hey again! Hard to say on that one. If you trade the player right away, there's a guaranteed morale penalty. But, if you hang onto the player for too long, you risk relationships being built. So, what's the magic sweet spot? I honestly couldn't say. I'd experiment with different lengths starting at ~1 week from acquisition and go from there.
Hey data do you know how to control multiple teams would like to play franchise mode with a friend with 2 different teams cause they have it in other sports games like nba2k but I can’t find it wnymore
Hey! In NHL Franchise, you're unfortunately only able to user control one team at a time :( I know exactly what you're talking about and love that other games have that feature, but NHL unfortunately does not at this time! Hope that helps ❤️
You should be able to call him up from "roster moves." The only reason why you wouldn't be able to would be if your team is over the salary cap or if you're already at the maximum number of allowed players (meaning someone will have to be sent down). Let me know what happens when you try!
Hey I know this is an old video but are players able to gain X factors in nhl 23? I personally haven’t seen it with any of my players but I’ve heard it’s possible but only in their draft year🤔
Hey! Sadly that's only in NHL 24. In NHL 23 players don't gain/lose X-Factors so you'd have to do that manually. There's been confusion on what can happen with X-Factors for players in their draft year but I don't think it's quite the same. Like a player's X-Factor(s) may become uncovered/appear in his draft year, but it's not like they are being "added" by the game due to the player having an exceptionally high attribute. Does that make sense? I hope that helps!
Hey Data, couple of questions. 1. I'm planning to start a 48-team custom league. I've made 16 custom teams to fill in the league and assigned available free agents to each team for now. So every custom team has Holtby, Jumbo, and so on. Will this be an issue if I do a fantasy draft? Will there 16 Holtbys to draft or are duplicates removed from the player pool beforehand? 2. If I turn off salary cap inflation but set the league cap maximum to 100m, will player's asking prices change relative to this? I'd like to set to 100m so I can easily see the % of the cap a player is taking up, but I would hope that players asking prices increases proportionally compared to the current max cap. All feedback is appreciated! Thanks!
Hey there! Great questions! 1. This is an interesting one. I remember that, when I did a fantasy draft with expansion teams in NHL 20 (Honolulu Huskies), this created duplicate players. They were fringe NHL-ers so it didn't have an impact, but there were some doubles. I have not tried this with custom leagues in NHL 23 so I would love to say that, no, there will not be repeated players because the game will just use the pool of actual players and not draw from the ones on the expansion teams, but I unfortunately doubt that this has been fixed. I would lean that player duplication would be likely. If you do end up trying, please let me know the outcome! 2. Yes, in my experience, contract demands are always relative to the salary cap itself. This does get wonky, however. For example, in 2023, we see a 2nd/3rd pair defenseman asking for, say, $2.50M which is 3.03% of the $82.5M cap. Advance 15-20 years with a salary cap of, say $110M, and you would think that the same 3% demand would now be $3.330M. Nope. It's now $5-6M+. So, yes, while the demands are relative to the cap itself, they don't necessary increase at a proportional rate. Again, this $100M cap with no increase is a great idea but I've never tried it myself! I would predict that it would keep contract demands constant, but not necessarily proportional. Please let me know any findings that you uncover and best of luck!
@@Data782 1. On point one. Yes, this does lead to duplicates. I had 16 Jumbo Joes in the free agency to start the year. Like you said, pretty inconsequential since they're all fringe guys, but silly nonetheless.
Nice tips for new players on franchise, its possible you make a deep video to explained the sliders for franchise mode not many video on youtube explain that, they are soo many options and setup on the sliders .👍 thank you.
Thanks Alex! Honestly, for sliders, I'll usually just go 4/4 full sim, 9/10 attribute affects, and 10-15/100 injuries. As you say, there are soooo many options haha and I'm content to just use those! I've tried the ones that you can find in forums or on Reddit but, in my experience, I haven't found them to change things toooooooo much (especially if simming the large majority of games). Some swear by certain sliders, others such as myself are content with little or no changes. Good luck!
Hey there Logan! Going by trade value will be helpful for you as you begin to learn some of the names around the league. Until then, in terms of overall range, keep in mind that about 78 OVR is the minimum to be in the NHL and no player is higher than a 97 as of the most recent roster update. Trade value will also range into account the player's age, potential, contract, etc. I would recommend taking the time to go through this video, join our discord server where other experienced players can help you, and to experiment with franchise mode! Best of luck and looking forward to any other questions that you may have :)
Hi data! thanks for the video, I was wondering if it’s better to wait for a drafted player to play 3 years of juniors or sign them and have them play in the ahl? sometimes it seems like they progress faster in juniors and other times it seems like they progress slower
Hey there! My pleasure, I'm glad that it was helpful for you :) When it comes to when you should sign your drafted prospects, much depends on where you would be playing them and if it would be worth it for their growth. Let's break it down into two categories that must be kept in mind: 1. Any prospect drafted out of the OHL, QMJHL, or WHL. They can't play in the AHL until they're 20+. So, if they aren't good enough to make your NHL team, leave them unsigned and allow them to develop in the juniors. If you drafted an older player and you can choose between the AHL or juniors, see my advice in the last paragraph below. 2. Any prospected drafted from another league (USA, Europe, etc.). They can be put into the AHL right away if you decide to sign them and not play them in the NHL. NOW. If you have a prospect who is 20+ from the OHL/QMJHL/WHL or a prospect who is any age from USA/Europe/etc., you must decide whether or not to sign them for the AHL. Unfortunately, it's impossible to truly say whether or not a prospect will develop better with you or with the team you drafted them from. Some players will even develop if you keep them as a healthy scratch all season so it can be a mystery haha. However, in general, if I'm not playing a prospect in the NHL, I like to sign them once I know that I can give them at least top 6 AHL minutes (think ~74 OVR+). That way, I can give them ample ice time (that they likely would have gotten back on their original team), but, the level of competition is higher, I can make sure that they get special teams time, AND I can try and maximize some extra line chemistry to boost growth. I'm probably writing way too much here haha but my main point is, don't rush to sign them! Let them develop until a certain point and, if you're sure that you have the ice time for them in the AHL, consider signing them. Again, sorry for writing too much and sorry if that's confusing haha. Feel free to leave any follow up thoughts and best of luck!
44:08 lmao. But you could edit the strategies You just need to press play now in your franchise mode and edit lines from there. I hate how we cant edit strategies anymore for ourselves.
Haha you're right, but it unfortunately comes at the cost of jumping through a good number of hoops! Plus, I believe any changes that you make would be reset once that game in particular comes to an end (unless that has changed). But you're right, really unfortunate that I can't edit or have any control/input over what the team's strategies are. Yes, the coach is the person who is primarily in charge of them and not the GM, but I don't think that the GM is primarily in control of bathroom renovations, either 😂 Thanks for adding your thoughts!
Hey there Data, thank you so much for this video. It's completely insane how little info EA provides about Franchise mode. You really helped me alot, thanks for taking that time! I would have a question, if you don't mind please. Do players improve during the season, or at the end? Example: I have 64 Jagger Firkus in my team. I play him. I simulated season alle the way to March and his stats did not move at all. Is there some kind of trick to it? Does it depend whether I simulate the game or play it? Do his stats update between seasons? Do I have to put him on some special program? Thanks so much, man.
Hey David! Glad to have been of service! Always happy to answer any questions. Yes, players improve during the season! The bulk of a player's growth will take place during the offseason but, during the season itself, it's not uncommon to see young players with high potentials grow in attributes and overall. So, in your example, it's not that Firkus isn't growing due to simulation vs. playing, special training, etc. The bulk of his growth will come during the offseason. Should he be showing growth mid-season? Potentially. If he's getting good ice time, has good line chemistry, has been producing, etc., then mid-season growth is definitely possible. But not necessarily the norm. Hope that answered your question and feel free to leave any others! :)
Hi Data, great video!! 3 questions. First is....all this customization like the number of teams, playoff customization etc, is that available in just the standard season mode? I just dislike being a GM....I'm opposite of you, I play all the games. Second question is if not, if you turn all the GM and scouting options off does the game basically play like a standard season mode? And finally, unlike season mode I noticed you cannot have full control of all rosters - so is the easy trade setting basically the AI will accept any trade giving you basically full control of everything? Thank you so much in advance!!
Hey there! Glad that you enjoyed! To answer your questions.. 1. All of that customization is only available in Franchise Mode! 2. Yes, you can play Franchise kind of like Season Mode! I get what you're saying - I used to play every single game and only get through a couple of seasons per real-life year as opposed to dozens through simulation haha. If I wanted to do that, I'd turn everything that I can "off" such as owner mode and morale, and also put everything else on "auto." If you're only playing one season, there's nothing to worry about. However, if you wanted to play 2+ seasons, be careful that the game will automatically sign free agents, draft prospects, etc. which will change your team over time. 3. I wouldn't say that the "easy" trade is an "accept all" kind of thing - more like, if the value is fair, it'll go through as opposed to "hard" difficulty where you may need to overpay for a player who isn't on a team's trade block even though the value is fair. So no, I wouldn't say that it gives you full control over everything. Feel free to leave any more of your questions and best of luck! :)
I have a question….I traded one of my draft choices to get an AHL guy that I liked….I play all my games both NHL and AHL ….every single game it tells me that the guy I traded for is playing in his first game since being traded….even though it isn’t….his stats increase and everything else but it just continues to tell me how it’s his first game. Why?
This sounds very odd.. When you say "it tells me," what do you mean? Like in the pregame warmup screens? If that's the case, I would just chalk that up to a classic glitch, unfortunately.
Hey! When a player is "in the system" it means that they are anywhere outside of the NHL (AHL, juniors, Europe, etc.). If you just drafted Bedard but he is "in the system," that means that he was returned to the juniors and cannot be called up to play in the NHL until next season. For two-way contracts, it can be a bit complicated in EA World. The real world answer is that one-way players are always paid their full amount of money no matter the league they are in, while two-way players get paid less if they are in the AHL. In-game, I never quite understood how much the dollar amount changes since that's not part of contract negotiations, but all you really need to know is that, if you can get a player on a two-way deal, it's always better for your salary cap flexibility. At a certain point, most players will only accept one-way deals since they want guaranteed money. Two-way players are also usually ineligible for waivers, although some can be so be sure to double check before sending a two-way player down to the AHL because it still may be possible that they get claimed. Hope that helped to clear up some of your questions and feel free to leave any more! :)
In my experience with NHL 23 so far, not really, no! Some x-factors are better suited for certain player types and their respective simulations, but I can't say that any in particular help more or less in terms of line chemistry.
@@Data782 okay thank you! Been here since 200ish subs, love what you’ve done with NHL and MLB. I love baseball but the franchise contracts and rosters was never something I learned about growing up so your deep dives have been so helpful
Wanna say thanks for this video mate, like one of the viewers said before my last NHL game was ages ago (Legacy) and I was curious if the game had changed a bunch. Seems like outside of the "side gm" features (e.g concessions and money there) it's remained largely the same.) Am curious though, do teams actually pull/swap goalies in the playoffs now? I was playing in the playoffs in Legacy and scored like 4 goals on Kochetkov in the first 6-7 shots, and did it again in game 2, but the AI will always play their "#1" goalie regardless of actual performance. Am curious if they might actually do a goalie swap to change things up like Florida etc did IRL, or if they don't.
Hey there! Thank you so much for the kind words! :) I can't say that the game has changed VERY much since then. The record book, player search, trade deadline mini-game, line chemistry, etc. can be nice and sounds like a lot of additions, but I wouldn't say that the fundamentals are much different. It's more one-and-done, if that makes sense. For example, it now really matters if your head coach is a high overall but, once you have one hired who you really like, you don't need to worry about it for like 8 years 😂 The rest of the things you mentioned are a part of owner mode which I am personally not a fan of. Feel free to ask any more questions about what may be new/different/the same from previous games! Concerning your question, teams will pull their goalies for a game but I don't believe that I've ever seen a swap across games. The AI will always start its highest OVR goalie in the playoffs regardless of performance. The only thing that would make them swap would be an injury. Thanks again for the kind words and thank you for taking the time! :)
Do you think that there's an actual significant difference between day to day sim/ calendar sim and real-time sim or do you think its the exact same sim but slowed down for entertainement/dramatization
I do! It sounds crazy, but there seems to be enough evidence to draw that conclusion. That evidence comes from the experiences of many players, as well as larger-scale experiments done by players such as 2bc.
@Data782 I understand, and im almost certain it's true as well, but confirmation bias is a hell of a thing sometimes! Thanks a lot for replying btw, binging a bunch of stuff on your channel currently! I love it. I can't believe i haven't found you until now. Im sure I've seen your tutorial in the past at some point, though! --- I watch a lot of 2bc stuff, but i haven't seen the said experiments. Do you mean like over time data or like did you/him or anyone make an actual full video on that? Id love to find more on that
In my experience, style doesn't really matter because that goes more into what type of players develop best. Rather, I'd look for coaches that are A+ offensively, A+ on the PP, and just as highly rated as possible overall. Good luck!
Hey Data love watching your yearly Franchise vids lol! Btw question for you, what's the highest you can grow each overall? Like if I draft a med top 6 can he become a franchise or high elite?
Hey Colby! Appreciate you always taking the time to watch! :) In response to your question, in theory, any player could become 99 OVR with all attributes at 99 and HIGH Franchise potential if given the absolute perfect environment, achievements, etc. Again, in theory 😂 In other words, there is no hard limit. That being said, in terms of potential, the most I've ever really seen a player develop is two "jumps." I've seen MED Top 6 become LOW Elite, HIGH Top 6 become MED Elite, MED Elite become LOW Franchise, etc. To see three or more is pretty rare, in my experience. Let me know if that answers your question and thanks again for taking the time to watch!
Total noob question but how do you match players to your coaching scheme when it doesn't tell you their chemistry until after you hire them? Like the player info doesn't say anything about their preferences like cycle/shoot or carry/dump. I seriously don't see how you can know a player will match your coach.
You pretty much can't 😅 That's why you try your best to get your pro scout to uncover their line fits but you can't do that in, say, free agency, for example. It can sometimes be a gamble to know whether or not a player actually fits your coach's system. A huge oversight which makes me not even take line fit into consideration most of the time - on top of the fact that line chemistry is now 95% about X-Factors and barely about line fits at all. Hope that helps!
Not in particular! It seems as though, when simulating, any x-factor will boost line chemistry. Now, is the player performing better due to the x-factor or the chemistry that the x-factor provides? It would be impossible to say for sure. I usually give passing-oriented x-factors to playmakers, shooting-oriented x-factors to snipers, etc. It seems as though those offensive ones make a difference, but I couldn't really tell you if the ones to do with skill moves or breakaways make much of an additional difference. I wish EA would be a bit more clear on all of this! Hope that helps :)
@@nimairobitaille178 Happy to help! :) And yes, agreed! Fun to add to the storyline but not the end of the world if you give "shnipe" instead of "one tee."
Great video! Quick question on creating 33rd team) can you get back into the actual creation area for say uniform tweaks or getting home crowd in the right colors? Thanks for all the information.
Thank you kindly! To answer your question, I don't believe that you can get back into the creation zone for a team unless you were to relocate. If you just wanted to make a small tweak like the one you mentioned, it would be too late. Hope that helps!
Nice video!! I have a question for you, If I drafted a 76 ov prospect from europe. What’s the best move to do? NHL bottom line, AHL top line or wait before offering a contract?
Thanks Billy! Your question is one that is old as time. It comes down to a number of factors. If I drafted a 17-18 year old from Europe who was 76 OVR out of the draft, I'd probably leave him in Europe but bringing him over wouldn't be the wrong move, either. I beliiiiieve signing a European prospect at 18 years of age and under and playing them in the AHL won't burn a year of their entry level contract, but it can be risky as they may turn 19 during the year and I'm not sure what rules the game goes by since they don't exactly follow the NHL's CBA haha. I wouldn't even consider NHL minutes until like 78-79 OVR+, and you want the player to get ice time - not just 4th line minutes. If I had a prospect who was, say, 60-some OVR out of the draft at 17-18 years-old but is now a 76 at 19-20 years of age, now is the time when I'd want to get him into the AHL because he's probably done all that he can in Europe at this point and I control his linemates/chem/ice-time in the AHL. Growing prospects is tough in 23, though. If they don't have X-Factors, they'll have a much harder time getting chemistry which hinders growth. ALL OF THAT BEING SAID, as a rule of thumb, I don't sign WHL/OHL/QMJHL prospects until they're ~80 OVR or I've arrived at the itme that must be signed before entering free agency, whichever comes first. I also don't sign my USA/European prospects until they're at least ~74-76 OVR and usually 18-19 years of age. Really depends on the combination. 18 YO 73 OVR, leave in Europe. 19 YO 74 OVR, sign and play in AHL. 18 YO 78 OVR, sign and play in Europe. 19 YO 68 OVR, leave in Europe as I'm not even sure he'll crack my AHL squad. Sorry for the super long and maybe confusing answer haha but I hope that it helped! Remember that the key to development is playing the player in their role (+special teams when possible for added ice time), providing strong linemates, and trying to maximize chemistry. Good luck! :)
So what happens when they hit 30? In madden for example they slowly start regressing. So when it’s the age/ time to get rid of the older vets when they get older?
The 32-33 range is usually when players will start to drop off the most! It all depends on the potential of that player. A player whose overall is above their potential, for example, will see theirs drop much more quickly than a player whose overall is where it should be according to his potential. With that information in mind, you can begin to guess as to when you should cut or hang onto an aging player. Many other things also come into account such as his contract, how well he simulates, and so on. Best of luck!
Hey there! To put a waiver eligible player on waivers, you'll have to go to "roster moves," select the player, confirm that you want to send them down to the AHL by placing him on waivers, and see whether or not he gets claimed. If he is sent down to the AHL, no one claimed him. Hope that helps!
Musical chairs, unfortunately! What you'll have to do is hire the AHL Head Coach that you actually want in another role (likely NHL Goalie Coach so that he will accept the bigger role), then fire your current AHL HC and demote the AHL HC you actually want from NHL Goalie Coach to AHL HC. Good luck!
Hey there! Owner patience = how much leash your owner will give you to achieve the goals that are laid out for you Owner spending = size of budget Success rating = I believe just a way for you to measure how well you're doing. Closer to 100 means fantastic, closer to 50 and below means not so much. Hope that helps and let me know if I can clear anything else up!
@@Data782 Oh. It seems like no matter what settings I use, the owner stats are randomly generated. It's always between 0.5 and 2 stars for whatever reason. Budget is always 143M for this roster. Though with the old default rosters I had 160M. it seems like the settings I put in when making a new expansion team don't really make a difference.
If I create a player how can I get that player to my expansion franchise? If I assign them to an existing team, how can I make sure they don't get protected in the expansion draft? Or if I set them as a free agent will they be snapped up by another team before I get a chance to do so myself in Free Agency? What are the best contract settings to best acquire a created player in franchise?
Hey Craig, great questions! The easiest way to get a created player onto your expansion team is to draft them in the entry draft. If the player is high enough in overall and/or potential, trying to sign them in free agency will have you in competition vs. other teams. If you want to draft the player in the expansion draft, there is no way to guarantee that they will not be protected. My recommendation would be to not assign them to any NHL team, make sure that their age is 2023 draft-eligible, and try to acquire that pick. Let me know if you can provide any other details such as the player's age/overall/potential for a more precise answer. When a player is created, they will either be draft-eligible or go directly to free agency depending on their age so keep that in mind. If they are old enough to be a free agent and are ~80+ OVR, other teams will certainly have interest (especially if that player has high potential). I'm not sure what you mean by "contract settings." Do you mean the ones in a custom league? No setting would make it easier to acquire a created player. Let me know if that helps and good luck!
@@Data782I have a two part follow up question somewhat related to this question. Can you create both male and female players? If so, is there just a way to make an inter-gender team consisting exclusively of created players?
So my question is did EA release an update for line chemistry reverting back to how it used to be with the proper player types and line fit? I took a break for a while and came back and I remember when I had Laine, Bedard and Gaudreau on that first line I had a +5 but I no longer have that. Did they nerf Xfactor a bit?
Is there a way to only play as one person? I know you can play as a single position but after a glitch in my pro not giving me the close quarters ability on my sniper (instead it gave me big rig which I can't even equip because that's a power and not sniper) I just wanna play as my guy on a team I can control who's around
When going into a game in franchise mode? Unfortunately not :( You can lock onto a position like you said, but you aren't able to lock onto just one specific player. In previous NHL games I believe you could play Be A Pro as an already-established NHL player but that's no longer a feature. Sorry Kyle!
Is there limit to how many X factors you can have/ active (like madden) Also what does coach staff chemistry do and what do associate and assistant coaches even do? I heard they handle special teams ?
Hey! You can have a maximum of six X-Factors for a player (one zone ability and five superstar abilities). If a player has been assigned the X-Factor, it is always active (keep in mind that some only "activate" under certain conditions). Staff chemistry is important in relation to overall team performance. If a good team is not performing well and you notice that staff chemistry is very low (below ~60%), there's a good chance that that is a major reason why. For associate and assistant coaches, it's hard to say how much they really impact your sim because your head coach is who matters the most, but anecdotal data seems to suggest that having ones with high attributes, especially for teaching and influence, will provide some boost to simulation and player development. Hope all of that helps and feel free to leave any other questions!
Hi, John! Once your Franchise Mode has already started, you cannot edit a player's pass/shoot bias but, if you want more shooting in the league overall, you can change the "shot frequency" up from whatever you have it at now! If you haven't touched it yet, it's at "medium" so you can bump it up to "high." Good luck!
Hi Data - Its UK Ian here. I hope your holiday is going well? Data , I've played quite a lot of '23 on a PS5 as you know and I've seen in your streams that on the PS4 you can see the ranking (the number ) of another teams pick. So on the PS5 I might see that say the Leafs have a Round 1 pick but I cant find out or find a screen / menu that tells me whether thats say pick#6 or pick#20 so until the actual Draft is operating I cannot work out whether it would be beneficial to trade with the Leafs for their round 1 pick. In your streams I see both the round and number of the pick but on the PS5 only the round is visible. So I'm left wondering is it something that I'm overlooking, just not getting or is it an EA glitch? Have you any thoughts.
So just to give you the example. At 33:25 in the Pittsburgh Penguins #9 where you are wanting to find a team that has a specific pick in the 40s or the 50s. So see the screen at 33:35 where it shows not just the round but in brackets the pick number. On a PS5 I just don't see the pick number
Hey there, Ian! It was a lovely holiday, thank you :) Time to get back to work! Good news - I have a quick answer for you! It has nothing to do with your console or any glitches. Those numbers telling you exactly what selection a particular draft pick is will ONLY be present if you are making a trade DURING the draft. Hope that helps - let me know!
Do you mean what determines whether or not a retiring player who becomes a coach will be offensive, defensive, etc.? If that's the case, nothing to my knowledge! I believe that it is purely randomized
So I fired my assistant coaches I hired two to replace them but the coaches say the spots are filled. I now have one less coach for the NHL and AHL. FYI I have owner mode turned off.
There you go! Yeah, hiring coaches is a real game of musical chairs an is way more complicated than it should be thanks to a couple of oddities. Glad you figured it out!
You'll have to go to the "hire staff" screen! You may be having trouble signing it because you have "auto staff management" turned on. Check out your settings and make sure that this is turned off! Let me know if you have any other questions :)
How do you mean? This could be for a number of different reasons. You may be using a different roster, you may be looking at a player whose X-Factors aren't fully uncovered, you may be looking at drafted prospects who will have different X-Factors in each franchise mode save file that you do, etc. I wouldn't sweat it, especially since you can always add or remove any that you'd like to on your own!
@@manz1444 Ahh well that's up to you! I give at least 3 or 4 to the better players in the league and 1 or 2 to players who specialize in certain things (ex. Blocking shots).
So I just started my 2nd season with the bruins and this game is so much fun. Have the active roster and made trades for toews and van reimsdyk.... but I have to ask. Is there no all star game in dynasty mode?
Glad that you're enjoying! :) You are unfortunately correct - there is no all-star game in Franchise Mode as there once was in Dynasty Mode :( It's a popular request and will hopefully someday return to the game!
X Factors are totally broken. I drafted an Elite High goalie with a bunch of X Factors including Dialed In and put him in the NHL with the intention of tanking. I ended up making the playoffs and he had a 0.900 save percentage with 57 games played at 73 overall.
You're unfortunately right. The goaltending can be a bit more random whereby X-Factor goalies can still be atrocious, but you're right that, for the most part, there is a large divide between the players that do have them and the players that don't.
@@Data782 What do you do to keep things fresh with Franchise Mode? I normally like to play without the salary cap but in exchange I will *only* field players I've drafted in the NHL and only play game 7s in the playoffs. I'm curious what other people do.
@@Euniceiscool Usually I like to take over very different teams (ie. A rebuilder followed by a contender followed by a retooler) and try to keep the players that I use separate (not always trading for the same ones). From there, the game usually provides different scenarios based on simulation and I roll with it from there! There are also many different fun restrictions to place on yourself such as only having players from one country, a certain age, etc. Good luck! ;)
I can’t ever figure out what level of coach to hire for the ahl goalie coach. Assistant or associate. I try to get assistant and they say role is filled
Haha AHL Goalie Coach is a tough one! What you'd have to do is, find an AHL associate or assistant coach that you want to hire as your goalie coach, hire them in their proper role of associate or assistant (make sure it's vacant), then demote them to goalie coach. Best of luck!
If you run a franchise to maximize profit, does the player really get a significant reward in the form of arena budget for upgrades or is it all just for nothing? I know there are profit goals that are pretty easy to achieve but if i got an insane profit so i can max out stadium in 1 season, in my expierience i didnt have much extra room for anything the season after
I fired my head AHL coach because I wanted to hire a new one. But I get locked to screen unless I promote a coach the head AHL coach. But if I promote I am unable to hire new head AHL coach. I tried hiring coach I want as associate AHL coach but they always say they are over qualified. How do I get around this?
Haha welcome to coaching musical chairs! Essentially, you'd have to fire any coach (ideally your AHL goalie coach), demote your NHL goalie coach to that role, hire the guy you want for AHL head coach as your NHL goalie coach, fire your current AHL head coach, demote the guy you want from NHL goalie coach to AHL head coach, and then promote back your original NHL goalie coach from AGL goalie coach to NHL goalie coach. It's an absolute joke 😂 Hope that helped!
Great video! Thanks. But, I'm confused... for line chemistry now, you just edit players and stack X factors on them? Seems broken / too easy to get a rigged team.
That's essentially it, unfortunately.. The game used to disallow you from changing player types so that you couldn't rig the chemistry(and you still can't), yet you are now allowed to add X-Factors which do exactly that. Very odd if you ask me haha. Finding players with good line fits still matters but I would prioritize X-Factors. I limit myself by only adding up to 3 of them on up to 3 players per season while also adding them to other players around the league. But yes, as you said, very easy to get a rigged team haha. Hope that helps!
They're not completely useless as pro scouts can still tell you about line fits but, with fog of war off and knowing the fact that X-Factors are the most important elements for line chemistry, I would say it isn't worth sacrificing amateur scouts to have pro scouts. If you could have 50 scouts it'd be fine but, with only 20 slots, I want them all for my amateur scouting
You unfortunately cannot :( However, there is a workaround! What you can do is go to creation zone and create your own international teams, then, when creating your Franchise Mode, include/substitute them in from the "custom teams" tab! Let me know if that helps :)
When you create a new team, and add them into a franchise mode, how do you deal with duplicate players? Ex: i create a team and put owen power on my team, but the sabres have their own Owen Power. How do i fix that?
If you're adding a team to Franchise Mode that already has a roster that you've assigned for it, I believe you only have one option to keep there from being duplicate players and that would be to transfer them off of their original teams. Keep track of whoever you add to your created team and then remove them from their actual team. In the Power example, you would go to "player movement," go to Buffalo, choose Power, and transfer him to any international team. Then, when starting your new Franchise Mode, be sure to use the custom roster that you have created by doing this. Let me know if this helps!
Question for nhl 23 franchise mode: I try to resign some of my top players but then they decline the offer because it was an offer for my minor league team. I put the contract as one way and I am on the nhl team page when I go to resign players. What’s going on?
Hi Wayne! I've never seen that before. If a top player is being offered a one-way deal of presumably big $$, they shouldn't be rejecting it because they think it's for the AHL. Maybe they're rejecting it based on the dollar value but the game is showing you the wrong message? I would experiment (maybe with a copy of the save file) and offer them way ore than they're asking for and see what they say to that. If they're still rejecting because they think it's two-way, then it's a major bug that would have to be patched (but likely won't since it's 23). Let me know what happens!
To an extent. I believe they were filters that you could add when looking on the trade block as opposed to an actual player search. Regardless, the actual player search in its current form has only been around for a few years which is mind-blowing to me 😂
You certainly could if you'd like to! It all comes down to how you like to play Franchise. Personally. I add/remove up to 3 X-Factors (usually on up to 3 players on my team) per season, while also doing my best to balance the league.
A very important warning!! Much appreciated, Scott.
This is great, I haven't played a NHL game in probably 10 years. I was completely lost and there are NO in-game tutorials for ANYTHING.
Exactly!! It's ridiculous! Glad that I could be of service! :) feel free to leave any questions that may arise as you play!
:) If you're playing on NHL 23, this is the guide for you but know that I also have an updated version for NHL 24 that may include a few other interesting tidbits that are applicable! ruclips.net/video/qQBla3YQ5OI/видео.html
You pass with flying colours for your notes! 😂 There's a committed player! Thank you for the subscription and please feel free to leave any questions as they arise during your time playing! You can also follow along with any of my many own Franchise Mode series on the channel for a kind of template, or even join our Discord server to be a part of other FM discussion discord.com/invite/rRDYpTx
Thanks for the kind words and all the best. Good luck!
thank you father
Anything for you! 🙏
Wow I’m a franchise mode Junkie and had no idea you could add/remove X factors. Thank you!
You learn something new every day! ;) Glad that I could be of service!
This is brilliant. Having not played an NHL game since 2018 it’s been a huge help. 👏🏼
I hear you on all of that!! 100% agreed! Thanks for sharing :)
Even though I know a bit about franchise mode from playing 22 will still watch! Have seen some cool facts from this video thanks data
Appreciate you taking the time, Owen! :)
Awesome video. I love NHL 23, but now I love it more now I understand franchise better
Awesome to hear!! :) Glad that the video was helpful! Feel free to leave any questions that you may run into along the way and best of luck!
I’m a ol school GM Mode veteran. Nice video! 1 thing I never thought was the moral player attributes gain, so thanks ! Every day is a school day. 😎
Hey there! Great to hear from a veteran! I've been playing Franchise/GM/Dynasty Mode for a while myself so it's nice to know that we're still out there! ;)
Glad to know that I was able to teach you something new!
Imagine from the beginning of the franchise mode window that you could also select the year you want to start, id love to see that option where i start i dont know in 1950 and you get to play each season and see how different the years.... i know theres probably lists you can download that are custom made, but its not the same, going back to the 1950s there were no salary cap or salary for the matter, it would in turn become a great tool to teach how hockey and the NHL came to be till this day, i dunno, i think that would be a hit.
oh for this content of your video it was amazing too!
Thanks for this, it was most helpful. I have nhl 21 and was looking if 23 is worth taking…. And it doesn’t look like it is…games look the same
What a great vid! Seems like such a good franchise mode
Thank you very much! It has its downfalls and there is much missing if I'm being honest but it certainly is a fun time if you get to know it!
FUIYOH!!! Look forward to this every year. Maybe it will motivate me to play the game.
Thank you for your continued support, brother! I can' guarantee any motivation to buy 23 but I hope that you'll get the information that you need! 😂
Thank you Data! My biggest issue with this game mode is… that you are unable to
Turn on or off retired numbers in custom franchise!!!
@@Data782 looks like it’s been added in this update!
@@EilrahcH Yes I was thinking of you when I read the update!! Great to see!
Mario is 66
I created a bunch of players with low overalls but with Franchise/Low potential.
i like to sim the regular season then play the playoffs but that’s just me
it gives me the fun management aspect while also getting to play (and you don’t get the bs ea sim ruining a good team in the playoffs)
Struggling to find ways to maximise simulation, my team is quite far in the standings despite a more than respectable team (Landeskog Stutzle, Caulfied is my first line right now)
Regards from Romania, nice job mate!
Thank you very much! Best wishes to you! :)
Good vid, I wish I had turned off gm firing lol, Btw, there is another category other than leader or neutral, player can also have the title of "presence"
Good catch! Thanks for mentioning that. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment! :)
What gives?
This is on Custom League*
In my experience, $1M over asking is probably the max and I've never seen an AI team offer more than that
@@Data782 where do you see what other teams offer?
@@alexandermccormick1413 You sadly cannot :( Another feature that MLB The Show has which I'd love to see in NHL at least to a certain extent
@@Data782 then how did you know by the reference above?
I'm back... how long do I have to hang on to players before incurring a morale penalty for trading them?
So I traded for Clayton Keller and he is in the AHL league but I want him to be in my NHL league but I can’t figure out how
You should be able to call him up from "roster moves." The only reason why you wouldn't be able to would be if your team is over the salary cap or if you're already at the maximum number of allowed players (meaning someone will have to be sent down). Let me know what happens when you try!
@@Data782 Thanks man! Appreciate you! I will try it out!

Good luck!
Im new to NHL and was wondering if there was like ovr for the trades because I don't know who anyone is
Hey there Logan!
@@Data782 thanks
Hi data! thanks for the video, I was wondering if it’s better to wait for a drafted player to play 3 years of juniors or sign them and have them play in the ahl? sometimes it seems like they progress faster in juniors and other times it seems like they progress slower
Hey there! My pleasure, I'm glad that it was helpful for you :)
When it comes to when you should sign your drafted prospects, much depends on where you would be playing them and if it would be worth it for their growth. Let's break it down into two categories that must be kept in mind:
I have literally never been able to make retain salary work even with lowering cpu to easy. And triple over paying. Kinda insane honestly.

But you could edit the strategies
You just need to press play now in your franchise mode and edit lines from there.
Can you do something on what it means to be in the system in because I got bedard but I can’t use him for some reason
And the 2 way contracts
Any suggestions for the “best” and “worst” Xfactors for chemistry and sun results?
Seems like outside of the "side gm" features (e.g concessions and money there) it's remained largely the same.)
Am curious though, do teams actually pull/swap goalies in the playoffs now?

Which coaching style would you say is best if I want the best offensive numbers for players or best team record? Thanks
Do you have a guide about x-factors and abilities? Which are good? I can't find one anywhere online.
@@Data782 Awesome thanks a lot! It does help! :) Seems like x-factors aren't something to stress too much about in Franchise mode.

@@halbicek Look who's talking! 🥰
Ive been wondering how do you put a player on waivers in franchise mode
Hey there! To put a waiver eligible player on waivers, you'll have to go to "roster moves," select the player, confirm that you want to send them down to the AHL by placing him on waivers, and see whether or not he gets claimed. If he is sent down to the AHL, no one claimed him. Hope that helps!
This is great dude, well done.
Thank you kindly! Glad that it was helpful for you! :)
I may be missing something, but how do I replace a head coach? I can't NOT have an ahl head coach but no one accepts my offers if the spot is filled.
Good luck!
Can you explain owner ratings like patience, spending and success ratings?
Hey there!
Owner patience = how much leash your owner will give you to achieve the goals that are laid out for you
Owner spending = size of budget
Success rating = I believe just a way for you to measure how well you're doing.

@@terakahn I wouldn't be surprised if they don't, honestly.. One of the many reasons I prefer to keep owner mode turned off 😂
If I create a player how can I get that player to my expansion franchise?

So my question is did EA release an update for line chemistry reverting back to how it used to be with the proper player types and line fit? I took a break for a while and came back and I remember when I had Laine, Bedard and Gaudreau on that first line I had a +5 but I no longer have that. Did they nerf Xfactor a bit?

what are the letter grades in order E A B C D F or A B C D F E

Is there a way to only play as one person? I know you can play as a single position but after a glitch in my pro not giving me the close quarters ability on my sniper (instead it gave me big rig which I can't even equip because that's a power and not sniper) I just wanna play as my guy on a team I can control who's around
When going into a game in franchise mode? Unfortunately not :( You can lock onto a position like you said, but you aren't able to lock onto just one specific player. In previous NHL games I believe you could play Be A Pro as an already-established NHL player but that's no longer a feature. Sorry Kyle!
Is there limit to how many X factors you can have/ active (like madden)
Also what does coach staff chemistry do and what do associate and assistant coaches even do?

Hello, I have a question how do you get more shooting on lines in franchise mode? Having problem on my 3rd and 4th line not shooting much

Good luck! ;)
I’ve made my own team with the same gm settings but I can’t hire coaches
I am new to nhl so dunno if I’m missing something
You have "auto staff management" turned on. Go to your settings, turn it off, and then try again :)
I know there are profit goals that are pretty easy to achieve but if i got an insane profit so i can max out stadium in 1 season, in my expierience i didnt have much extra room for anything the season after
It isn't for nothing, but I wouldn't say that the rewards are significant. Another reason why I don't see much value in keeping it on when I play
I can raise my chemistry without X factors?, every player seems to have like a favourit line to play in.
In theory, yes! Line score and player type play a role but X-Factors have the biggest impact on chemistry

Wow, weak.
Okay thanks very much for the clear answers.
@@evanwakelin7944 My pleasure!
One more thing, are you saying Pro scouting is 100% useless with Fog of War off?
They're not completely useless as pro scouts can still tell you about line fits but, with fog of war off and knowing the fact that X-Factors are the most important elements for line chemistry, I would say it isn't worth sacrificing amateur scouts to have pro scouts. If you could have 50 scouts it'd be fine but, with only 20 slots, I want them all for my amateur scouting
@@Data782 Groovy. Appreciate you man.

How do I put international teams in franchise mode custom league
@@Data782 thanks so much man!

@@Data782 thank you!! I will try that today
Thank you for this video!
It's my pleasure! :) Thank you for watching!
Player search was in Nhl 14.
To an extent. I believe they were filters that you could add when looking on the trade block as opposed to an actual player search. Regardless, the actual player search in its current form has only been around for a few years which is mind-blowing to me 😂
Can you change league customization settings after starting the game?
You cannot! You'd have to restart with a new save file
@@Data782 NOOOOO!
I have a question, why wouldn’t you just add x-factors to everyone to have great chemistry? It seems like a cheat code.
You certainly could if you'd like to! It all comes down to how you like to play Franchise. Personally. I add/remove up to 3 X-Factors (usually on up to 3 players on my team) per season, while also doing my best to balance the league.
