" Unfortunate that hasn't been reflected in ratings and ticket sales yet." It is the end of 2024, and we are talking about a five-year-old company with an actual history we can examine. It is not a new company trying to pick up viewers anymore. It is an established company trying not to lose viewers. At this point last year, Dynamite was hovering in the 900k range while it is currently averaging in the high 500k and low 600k range. When I have this conversation with AEW diehards, most of them don't seem to understand what happens when the total number of viewers goes down, so I'm going to explain what that means: When the numbers go down, that means people have stopped watching. It means they have changed the channel and are watching something else. Personally, I watch Dynamite almost every week. I think it's some of the worst wrestling content I have ever seen, and I have replaced watching Collision on Saturdays with watching whatever promotion is broadcasting live on IWTV that week, but I still watch it. It's a family thing. We get together at night and watch wrestling, drink, and chat. I subscribe to multiple wrestling streaming services and can watch pretty much any type of wrestling from anywhere in the world that I want to watch. It's easier to watch Dynamite most weeks, but when things get bad, we switch to one of the other promotions we have access to.
Why do you keep talking about the negative people? You’re just giving them a platform, you’re literally the only place I hear these complaints from, if you don’t mention it they have no power.
Dynamite is pretty good, it’s a different kind of wrestling show to Collision. Rampage wouldn’t be so bad if they used it as a linking show introducing lesser known characters into AEW. I will say, AEW needs to add more women’s storylines, maybe Rampage is the perfect hour to add a couple of 10 minute matches not including the top 5 female stars.

Funny seeing all the little baby Gen Z'ers in the comments who never grew up with WCW or ECW or even XPW or even watched a sliver of indie promotions, jump on the hate wagon about how much they don't like AEW, when all they ever watched was WWE. Or if I grew up with I Love Lucy and someone showed me The Big Bang Theory, I'd be like "WTF is this?" OKay Kids, act like you have no culture.
Personally i believe AEW arent booking themselves like another top competitor as they're using the established people to set the bar so the people they actually want can reach those extra fans and build from there. 5 years from now will show that. Unless they're a big name, they probably wont be using many old guys going forward after this facelift they're currently doing.
@@Sd12sx23 to me it just seems like use the established guys first to get eyes on. Then build the guys you want off them so people actually take them seriously 🤷♂️ Just seems how fans take it. @@ItSnowsInHell "5 years from now will show that." At first, I thought I clicked on an old video. AEW is an established company whose flagship show used to have over 900,000 viewers every week and sometimes over a million per week but is now struggling to reach 600,000 viewers each week. AEW is not struggling to gain new fans at the moment. It is struggling to maintain the fans it already has and regain the ones who stopped watching. Mox brought up the point in the segment with Private Party. They have been there five years, and they are in the same position they were five years ago. Everybody in the company is in the exact same place they were five years ago. The guys who started on the bottom are still on the bottom while the guys who came in and were pushed as top stars in the early days are still the people they are focusing on today.
@@thegolem9325 those early fans were just because something new. They weren't going to immediately take 1mil+ and run with it. That's insane to even think about. Year 10 on will be AEW. For only 5 years, they're exceeding expectations all around. 🤷♂️
@ItSnowsInHell They haven't averaged 700k in two or three months. Now they average less than 600k. For the first 4 years they were averaging 900k. The drop to between 500-600k all came this year and is 100% because of the booking and nothing else.
They are gaining attendance across the board and getting a big tv deal lol. Week to week fluctuations of cable ratings where many stream or watch later is not a good indication anymore. They still rank in the tops for ratings anyways.
One thing people aren't realizing is AEW has EXCEEDED expectations. TK said he wanted to have a good 5 years ending with an average of 500k viewers. They have exceeded that. Also wrestling is better when you watch it. You can't tell me AEW is bad because of booking and stories and match when we ALL watched WWE from like 2018-2021 where they were honestly kinda rubbish and yet we still watched. Oh course it’s Simon miller out here being a AEW apologist, and trying to hype AEW. The only place AEW is still truly popular is UK, and why is that because majority of top stars are all wrestlers who have either never set foot in the WWE except as jobbers or UK indi darlings like Will Osprey who refused to quote unquote sell out to WWE because WWE is evil, and has cut ties with all his wrestling colleagues who went to WWE.
I'm actually really disappointed with AEW. I wanted sports based wrestling, you kind of get that in some matches, but it feels like a really confused product. It feels like it wants to be an alternative to WWE, then also seems to want to be the Attitude era despite not realising those times have passed. It wants to be ECW despite not realising how unhealthy that is. It wants to be indie, despite not realising that's very niche. They need to get a proper identity, think about what they want to be and focus on that. Spend time on feuds. Danielson/Mcguinnes for example, decent match, but the build for that should have been months. They blow through dream matches way too quickly without taking a breath, pausing, and building things up. I just wish they would decide what they want to do, and stick to it and really focus on it. As Meltzer said in the demon doc, great matches aren't enough. You have to build stars and that takes time and patience.
As a long time AEW fan, we’re really not. Ratings are low, there’s no cohesion to most of the storylines, I’m constantly disappointed when Tony books fucking Jericho and the same boring people every week instead of letting actually exciting and unique talent like Starks, House of Black or Wardlow let loose and get their credit.

That would be true if AEW was competition for the WWE. They haven't been competition for years now. Their flagship show, Dynamite, struggles to keep above 600k viewers weekly. As a person still holds ECW as the gold standard of pro wrestling, I appreciate AEW is trying to be like them, only thank goodness they have endless amounts of money.

It’s phony garbage that looks fake, and preposterous. Randy Orton Vs Gunther is for closer to what actual real wrestling is. And it’s why WWE is hotter than it’s been in a long time. You’re insinuating that people like talking more than wrestling on wrestling shows, considering you think WWE is just for people who like talking.
What an absolute bullshit comment.
Funny seeing all the little baby Gen Z'ers in the comments who never grew up with WCW or ECW or even XPW or even watched a sliver of indie promotions, jump on the hate wagon about how much they don't like AEW, when all they ever watched was WWE. Sure, if I grew up with Mario Bros. and then someone showed me Sonic, I would probably hate it, too, thinking Sonic was too fast and was doing too much.
Agree that they really should improve their game as far as developing younger talent.
@@Sd12sx23 to me it just seems like use the established guys first to get eyes on. Then build the guys you want off them so people actually take them seriously 🤷♂️
Just seems how fans take it. Once they built up who they actually want running the shows, then you book those big time stories and matches now you've proven time and time again you deliver there. PPV are proof of that already imo. 🤷♂️
They avg 6-700k easily and are top 3 on cable every week. Even when contested by other sports/events.
The first 5 are using established people. The next 5 is building the actual company people.

The problem AEW have to many teams no stories
