- Hello guys and gals, it's me Mutahar again! This time I take a look at Stellar Blade which recently just dropped and wading through it's massive controversy I wanted to see the game for it's own merits and what I found was a pretty decent soulslike. Thanks for watching!

I miss when Halo 5 and other big games were at a locked 60 fps. That was a cool part of this gaming generation. I wonder why they gave up?
And not locking costumes behind a paywall is being praised... remember when costumes were rewarded to us for doing something in the game or beating it? They actually made us feel like we achieved something because they were earned, not bought
The stuttering usually doesn't happen on console anyways. Let's see what happens when/if it comes to pc

Nier Automata: deeper narrative
Stellar Blade: better combat system
This seems to be the general consensus across multiple reviews
I will say that people shouldn't confuse gameplay and combat though. Combat of stellar blade is definitely an improvement (although I think the combat animations of Automata are better), hower compared to Automata so far it's lacked in gameplay variety. Automata had a bunch of different genres of gameplay, as well as amazing camerawork done to force perspectives dynamically.
Stellar blades combat is better but Automatas gameplay in return is better.
Also for narrative, stellar blade being so heavily based on Automata narratively is probably a big reason why the narrative isn't as good as Automatas. It's following automatas footsteps a little too closely to be compared to Automata in a way that isn't just "that's nice but Automata did this better 7 years ago". If it stood on its own more, then comparisons may be more open and people could highlight their preferences between each. But copy something too closely and people can see night and day which one did this or that better because it's such an easy comparison to draw.

Both are amazing franchises (we know Stellar Blade is getting a sequel 😁) but Niers story is rich and has its lore picked apart like with how Dark Souls fans has their own theories and rabbit holes. It’s interesting . Stellar blade’s combat is better and the jiggle is amazing lol. What more could a guy ask for 🥵🤣? The story and lore videos are soon to follow and I’m ready for it. Remember that good games get debated over and theorized. This Nier vs Stellar Blade debate is just beginning lol.

I saw the HARD R as a hidden joke put in there by the devs and not anything malicious so I was a little shocked about how big the backlash was.

I'm not about to return the game because of the censorship. But that being said censorship is still cringe, no matter how you look at it. If the lead developer really made these changes himself on his own free will, then I'm fine with that. But if Sony forced him to make the change, then that's a massive Sony L.
It's goddamm smooth unpatched. It's wild how much work went into it.
There where a good amount of outfits changed, and alot of the changes are very obvious they where last minute, he is just lying to save face.

When it comes to the whether the game was censored short answer yes. Game breaking change nah. It is scummy marketing changing the product after purchase. People have to hold companies that do this more accountable its like ordering a double cheeseburger and getting a single patty with no cheese

The devs even said that they acknowledge people would doubt it truly was a design change. Given shift ups history yea i dont believe they did it voluntarily. We get some good things from the US, it's just mostly Indie. Gotta shout out the Indie Devs... Although why do you all mf love the top down pixel dungeon slayer approach? Please, I can only do so much, give me something different.
I don’t play games for nudity, so I don’t really care when games don’t have it, but the fact that it was marketed as being in the game and then removed after launch isn’t right. It doesn’t effect me personally, but Sony (I’m assuming it’s them since the devs sounded reluctant to talk about it) censoring games meant for adults when kids won’t even be playing it is stupid, especially when it was advertised as being uncensored. It might seem trivial, and personally it won’t affect my experience with the game, but false advertising isn’t still false advertising and shouldn’t be supported on principle.

Funnily enough, a lot of the journos ridiculed Bayonetta too, claiming that it was made to "appeal to the male gaze". But since its become really popular, they've done a complete 180 and claim that she's a femme fatale done right and all that. They just don't like attractive female characters in games, then claim there is no female representation.

I'm old enough that I thought hard R was referring to movies. Anyway, this game looks awesome, I'll probably pick it up in May.
There's also a third hard mode - if you use the semi transparent skinsuit it disables shields

The only problem I have it is that it's a narrative focused game with lots of cutscenes, and the actors sound as though they not only recorded their dialogue on different days, but weren't given the script containing the other characters dialogue in each scene. They're all speaking in a vacuum. They may also have been heavily sedated.

@@DarrenExplorz My rule of thumb for Eastern games is to play them in their intended generalized language. Kinda why YongYea got his head absolutely stomped for his take during that Yakuza fiasco because I'm willing to bet most people play Yakuza in dub. That said some people stay far away from dub and that's a completely different discussion. But the dub in this game feels motivated and provides emotion.

My main complaint about this game is wishing it had faster hack n slash mechanics, I first expected it to be similar to DMC/Bayonetta/NieR, but with the futuristic/cyber aesthetic it has but ngl felt disappointed to know it was gonna be another Soulsbourne approach 🤔...that and the original "Project EVE" title was way cooler

Same, but I've always wanted to play an "easier Soulsbourne" game, and after playing the demo, this feels like the one to get.
NG+ has mk2 upgrades including mods that boosts your attack speed. NG+ is literally where the real game begins.

It's a pretty fun game with a solid combat system and good optimisation, honestly other than Eve or enemy designs combat is another reason why I want to play this game because it have parry mechanic like sekiro, hope they release it on pc soon

Get it on sale... If you even get a chance. The physical copy for Lies of P, for example, became rare before I saw any sales drop. Sometimes the regular price IS the "deal", because finding a physical copy of the North American version of some games will set you back $100+ if they become a rarity.
One thing I am appreciating so far is that the game is fully on the disc and I can play without the day 1 patch. I am always worried about that nowadays since discs having the full game and the game is in a playable state is no longer a guarantee.

Absolutely love the game and got to Xion as well yesterday but what strikes me a bit odd is how easy the game is so far, I wonder what they did in NG+
I was dying like mad until I got the hang of this game, even on story mode. For me, at least, even story mode is decently hard. It's the hardest story mode of any game I've played. Now, I'm no souls player. The only other Souls - ish game I've played was Little Witch Nobeta, on easy, and even that was kinda hard.
These games just take a little practice and a willingness not to give up. If you play through it on the harder mode you'll feel good when it's done.

Also you can try just using the Skin suit in story mode for added difficulty, if not yet ready for the normal mode.

So. Slightly unrelated question, but hear me out. Would you say Rise of the Ronin is any good? I got a concept brewing in my head that I’m hoping to professionally pitch and make reality, and a lot of it is seeing if Stellar Blade’s gameplay can be effectively combined with Rise of the Ronin’s(Working idea is Stellar Blade’s Exploration and Platforming(Whatever the climbing section you showed while talking about the graphics was), and Rise of the Ronin’s combat)

You feel old.... im 33 this year and tried to explain the movie Matilde to a 20 year old. I had that feeling of time never stops.
There is also a hard difficulty if you beat the game. New Game + also makes the game harder. The combat speed also increases greatly through some of the upgrades you get, some of which are only available in new game plus.

Honestly like the enemy designs in this, might pick this up if it ever comes to PC.
There should also be a game journalist mode for super easy let me hold your hands mode for the game playthrough. All enemies die in one hit kills and one click solvable puzzles so that game journalists will complete the game in record time for the next 'game review'.
what we learned from this game
1. Today's developers are incapable of standing by their decisions
2. To reach 60fps on PS5 you need a PS4-ass game
