Tatiana heard Otep when she was 15 in 2002 or 2003 and was shocked to learn Otep is a woman and was inspired to get serious about singing professionally. Practiced and sang with half a dozen bands before performing with growls in her band before Jinjer in 2008. Then was recruited by Jinjer in 2009 when their founding vocalist was moving on to other things. The rest is history and she's been slowly but steadily getting even more powerful in both her clean and growling vocals. And this is 8 years later and it's been 6 years since. They've got 4 albums, a couple of EPs and a new album coming out later this year. You can't go wrong with any video that's suggested but Perennial live at Wacken is the usual next step. Subbed. Good reaction. Tatiana is well known for her transitions. She's using a false chord technique so her vocal chords are safe. The false chords extend over the actual vocal folds in order to help keep food from going down the wrong way. Singers who learn the technique learn to control those otherwise voluntary muscles to make sounds. They then use their mouth and tongue to filter the sound. This rabbit hole is deep in fact I think they have more videos on RUclips than most bands do. Best band on the planet! Buckle up, you haven't seen anything yet! I discovered them just a little over a year ago, and they've been my favorite band ever since. In two weeks, I'm going to see them live for the third time in 10 months. The rabbit hole is deep, because they literally have zero bad songs to their name. I just subbed, so I'll be along for the ride. I won't bother with suggestions because there are already plenty to get you started, and they're all good!🤘

Found Jinjer Christmas Eve after everyone else was asleep in 2017 and quickly became my all time favorite band. They have it all Tatiana is my favorite vocalist AND lyricist. Musicianship is top notch and it’s progressive tendencies mean it is always fresh. Their background, grinding a career out of Eastern Ukraine, losing their homes in 2014’s Russian backed civil war and their rise. Add to that they are humble and so nice in person. Note Japan is also killing it with metal and many all female bands. Especially Nemophila and Hanabie. If you want I can link them up. As for a Jinjer my top 5 songs are Cloud Factory, Outlander, No Hoard of Value, Home Back and Retrospection but frankly their whole catalog is great.
After seeing this performance too many times, they filmed this in multiple takes. Pretty sure the audio was taken when the camera was on her left side, that's why the shots from her right side don't line up perfect. My guess would be they did 3-5 passes to get it all in camera. While it was recorded live, they did add in some vocal doubling just to make a few parts stand out a bit better.
She isn't using her vocal chords to growl, nor do most modern metal vocalists that growl. It's the false vocal folds located above the vocal chords that are used, this allows for the harsh sound without risking damaging one's voice.
It is nice to find someone who agrees with me about how metal music in the U.S. has gotten.... bad. Since I discovered Jinjer a few years ago they have become one of my favorite metal bands. I think you will enjoy the Jinjer rabbit hole. I am sure you will get many good recommendations for where to go next with Jinjer. As far as metal throughout the rest of the world I think you should check out Bloodywood when you have gotten your fill of Jinjer. They describe themselves as "Indian folk metal" (Indian as in the country, not native Americans). What sets them apart is the message in their music. When the war in Ukraine started they all volunteered. They were told to continue touring and support the cause.
