I know of a Pastor in the UK who has collected about £13,000 off over 150 people in Nigeria to help them get a visa to come and work in the UK.
These people sell their homes and properties and even borrowed and are left stranded. When we tell them its not as they think. It's like we don't want them to come over.

Corruption has eaten deep into the nature of many Nigerians home and abroad, not only the leadership. Agents in Nigeria and 'care home' owners in the UK are Nigerians. We accuse our leaders of corruption while we conveniently engage in the same unrighteous habits.

Sassy , it's so easy to get people to part with money to travel abroad because we are not satisfied with what we have going on . We won't show up properly for work in Nigeria , meanwhile we are looking for that great job in the uk. If most Naija people put in the effort we can do well in our country . People tell them all the time that abroad is not the solution to a better life . They will quickly tag you a hater and the enemy of their progress .

This is heartbreaking. Criminals taking advantage of people’s desperation to move abroad.
Thanks Funke for showing this, hope our people would be a bit more circumspect in dealing with the so called visa agents.

  • @bolagenius
    @bolagenius Год назад +1

If you have £10k to path with to relocate to the UK, that means you are better off than many people presently dwelling in the UK. Recent surveys show that 90% of people living in the UK don't have up to £100 saved away in a savings account for raining days. Inflation is at 30 years high, and the country is on the verge of a recession.

Sassy, these agents must be punished👿! Again, our Sassy Funke watching our backs with such timely and critical information. Skilled and hard-working Nigerians being scammed… who are these “agent” scammers, Brits or Nigerian? There may not be much that can be done legally on the British side, but these scammers physically residing in Nigeria need to be exposed and punished and if they are native Nigerians they are also helping to contribute their own to a negative worldview. Sassy, you are such a valuable treasure and may you be blessed🙏!

THANKS for further bringing up this SAD issue. We as a people of Nigeria must understand that...
We are NOT the only country taking advantage of these skilled worker visas, many others are too.
We are also probably the only ones who may harbour the belief, that we are likely to stay abroad for GOOD. But obtaining these visas may NOT get you a permanent leave to remain in that country.
Regardless of our calculations, CONTINGENCY must be part of our plans. Plan B, C.
Capitalism is a system of SUPPLY and DEMAND... too many workers in any specific sector (care work for example) will always result in oversupply of labour, meaning lack of enough work in that sector.
Finally, we should never pay anyone (middle men/women) for things we could get done cheaper through embassies.
    PLEASE BEWARE!!!

    My advice is:
Anybody who desires this route should ensure they get a contract of employment from the company, signed with the companies stamp or company number (Companies House), it must NOT be a zero hour contract.
It should be a Contract of Employment for at least the minimum full time hours, in a working week (UK).

This is really sad but it's as real as reality. I believe a thorough investigation both in Nigeria and in the UK should be conducted to dig deeper into this criminal act and to expose those culpable. Anyone found culpable should be prosecuted and there is a need for intending immigrants to do their findings before deciding to do any transaction. I pray for the victims, God will help to open up the doors of help unto them soon.

Exactly what happened to some of us about 18yrs ago.
We were scammed by a Zimbabwean lady by name Jackie. We paid £2000 and were promised placements for adaptation program, also known as overseas nurses' program.
We were abandoned by this fraudulent agency..X......
Some of us became depressed and went back to Nigeria but some of us who were lucky to have relatives here continued to hang around and to God be the glory we finally settled. It was not until 5 years later.

I agree but I think part of the problem is our own comfort with corruption . I suspect huge sums are paid on the basis that the agent will get them to the front of the queue or make sure it’s a guaranteed thing even if they don’t meet criteria. I do understand that some of that could be from desperation but clearly this is not the move our people should be making.

It is quite disheartening to know that this is happening to my fellow Nigerian people. I believe both the agents and the families seeking to migrate are to blame. Why? Firstly the agents though not scammers are being exploitative in their behaviour; they have seen an opportunity to make money from people who desperately looking to better themselves and are making promises that they can’t deliver on. Secondly, greed has set in. How can they justify the fee being requested? On the part of the families; they don’t have to use agents. I always tell Nigerians who come to the UK either wanting to legalise their stay here that they don’t need to use the services of agents to do so. Secondly the web is full of information that they can do their research themselves. If they are not confident, get their children to help. It’s very disturbing to hear all these stories. Hopefully there would be a change once the agents get blacklisted and face the justice system, this would stop.
