What a tribute to Dessie! He was a top man and we were all shocked when we heard about Dessie. I was in Long Lartin at the time and though I didn’t know him well I knew of him and how people I held in high esteem talked about him. Yes, suicide is one of those things that you think is going to happen to someone else, someone you don’t know and when it happens to someone like Dessie you realise it can happen to anyone. I heard how he was counselling people around him in the seg in Whitemoor which is a very hard, unrelenting and unforgiving place. Rest in Peace Dessie.
It was cooking that somewhat saved me Ian, done my last sentence in saughton then went to college to train to be a chef, 16 years later I'm still cooking and its no doubt saved me from the jails etc. Would recommend anyone coming out the system to try cooking at college and see how it goes if they can stick it out.

hi Ian enjoyed listening to your stories today very enjoyable, just picked up on a name you mentioned earlier I think it may of been Peter Colston you were talking about coz it was the bank of america 1975 in Mayfair london. because my best pal was on that job Jimmy oloughlin well known villain .he was living in the UK for yrs then returned to to his home town Waterford ireland.sadly Jimmy is no longer with us. and for the record Ian at the time that was Britain's biggest Bank robbery.£8mstg. Jimmy oloughlin also escaped from old Bailey on remand hearing ,casually walking out the front door with the newspaper under his arm. Jimmy was always smartly dressed dapper.theres you tube film out there about the bank of america robbery called third time unlucky. and also old book called the same.
Suicide is such a horrible disease and this story goes to show that it can affect anyone. A lot of prisoners become institutionalised and many of them think they have nothing on the outside. Cheers for sharing the story blink big man, this could help a lot of people.

I was in a dark place, a dark tunnel as you describe it. Can I just say if anyone Is feeling that way or has any suicidal thoughts please speak to someone. Anyone. 🙏

I'm from London ian and was always on the fringes of crime, but never had the arshole to get into the heavy duty stuff , but saying that dessie was a legend in London most probably along with a family in Islington and another in canning town these are the absolute top of the tree , lastly Ronnie o'sullivan's dad is a gentleman and the most generous fella i'v ever met , best wishes going forward mate from Sacha in London

When I first arrived at belmarsh dessie introduced himself to me and was a really good source for advice and direction, he had been shipped there after the riots at full Sutton, he was so strong and so kind. I never forget him. He told me the full story of why he did Charlie B and Charlie later admitted he had it coming. Sometimes you have to do the worst to get the best. You take care mate, who knows we may meet again one day.
Such a sad story Ian but a great tribute to Dessie, I had a couple of pubs in Walworth Road in the early 90's I heard his name mentioned with respect along side big names like the Macvoys,Arifs and Brindles. Did he also have a brother Noel Cunningham?
Just thinking Ian maybe it was the pressure of him knowing that when he did get out that he had the knowledge and ability to take over London and he realised that his life would of been a constant cycle of in and out of prison who knows but a very sad and emotional story RIP Des 🙏

Yeah Dessie was a well known guy who was looked up to as the type of face a young blagger would want to be like or talked about like, these guys were our premier league players and if they had done underworld stickers he would have been in England 🏴 A team.. When we heard about his passing it was shocking.. I'm straight now self employed painter and decorator cos I didn't want to die behind the wood Beautiful tribute to your friend. Thanks.
My Dad ( who's from Glasgow - BalckHill, Sean Russell , his mother Mary Russell ) use to always tell me about how when he done a bit of time in prison a lot of his good pals came out heroine addicts due to the new rules and restrictions in prison. He wasn't lying either. Most of them never really recovered the addiction and it served them s shitty life.

Hi Ian it’s Luca from Sardinia, so nice of you to put this up about Dessie, we were away together in cat A in 97 until he was shipped to whitemoor and me to long lartin where I met you on A wing. We didn’t believe he did himself as you know, he had written to me a couple of weeks earlier. I really hope Noel is doing ok and on his way out soon. Take care mate.

When I first arrived at belmarsh dessie introduced himself to me and was a really good source for advice and direction, he had been shipped there after the riots at full Sutton, he was so strong and so kind. I never forget him. He told me the full story of why he did Charlie B and Charlie later admitted he had it coming. Sometimes you have to do the worst to get the best. You take care mate, who knows we may meet again one day.

Such a sad story Ian but a great tribute to Dessie, I had a couple of pubs in Walworth Road in the early 90's I heard his name mentioned with respect along side big names like the Macvoys,Arifs and Brindles. Did he also have a brother Noel Cunningham?

Just thinking Ian maybe it was the pressure of him knowing that when he did get out that he had the knowledge and ability to take over London and he realised that his life would of been a constant cycle of in and out of prison who knows but a very sad and emotional story RIP Des 🙏

Thanks for the we story Ian 👍… we fact suicide is contagious it’s why it’s never on adverts on tv and they try not to talk about it on radio magazine etc .. I did course in my work about it and couldn’t believe that.it’s contagious…. RIP to all who have taken there own life ❤️🏴

Yeah Dessie was a well known guy who was looked up to as the type of face a young blagger would want to be like or talked about like, these guys were our premier league players and if they had done underworld stickers he would have been in England 🏴 A team.. When we heard about his passing it was shocking.. I'm straight now self employed painter and decorator cos I didn't want to die behind the wood

My Dad ( who's from Glasgow - BalckHill, Sean Russell , his mother Mary Russell ) use to always tell me about how when he done a bit of time in prison a lot of his good pals came out heroine addicts due to the new rules and restrictions in prison. He wasn't lying either. Most of them never really recovered the addiction and it served them s shitty life.
