Oh man, when this movie came out it was such a good time in my life and this movie only made it better. Great memories.
You lucky bastard😂😂😂😂
I know what you mean! I know what you mean... Here’s to good times...
Please name the movie
@Hell Fire thank you buddy
Very much agreed!
The firs time I went to London I made sure to visit this little bookshop in Notting Hill. It's super cute inside, I bought a little postcard
Great
What a fun experience that must have been & so “special!” Thanks for sharing your experience with us all & I am so excited for you that you got to visit that cute little bookstore! How I would love to go there myself!!! ♥️
I’m going to do that too
I’d love to visit this little bookshop ❤️
It's real?
Hugh is really so charming even being the cliché guy! Also, Brits really do have a way with their words,it's unnerving but nonetheless very charming
Unnerving but charming...haha, I like that, thanks!
@@chloepresley2000 You're absolutely welcome ;-)
You have clearly never been here. Lol I’m British & most of us are racist, knuckle-dragging morons. Just saying
@@joejitsu034 lol, well maybe but then again not all of you are. Every group or religion or country has their own shortcomings but to generalise all of them for such a group of people is not fair, at least in my opinion. Anyway , I have grown up reading all British classics and listening to their songs and bought up in strict Catholic convent so maybe I am biased that way, but I cannot deny the fact I do find your lot ,if not all of them, charming in some ways which appeal to me.
Shneha Prasad I argue about a generalisation & you tell me I’m doing it & then generalise yourself from things you read in books! Lmao I’m speaking from experience. I’m English mate 👍
I miss this kind of romcom movies from the 90s/200s they feel so genuine. Thanks for the upload, it’s such a blast from the past!
Try "While you were Sleeping" of Sandra Bullock
In the scene when Hugh Grant spills coffee on Julia Roberts, and Hugh Grant offers his house to get cleaned up. Julia Roberts says: “How far is it? In yards?” Aren’t the Brits on the metric system? They would refer to meters instead of yards.
He is so gentle. Such a cute, shy and handsome appeareance. It's a very intelligent and quite scene. Great actors. It's lovely to see Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts in such slow, careful, intelligent scene.
Hugh grant could have been the poster boy of these slow romances in those times. Instead we got lumped with hanks, Paul rudd, bateman. I mean American actors just can't do slow and classy!
@@poojapoojary9107 I always thought Hugh Grant was kind of a lightweight actor but the movie Maurice changed my opinion.

It is one of my favorite films. Love the script so much, so personal yet magical. It has the natural awkwardnesses that make it relateable.
She was impressed by how classily he handled the situation, like a gentleman. Most American guys would've thrown the guy out on his ass or at least yelled at him.
Oh shut the hell up
@@jobdoneright5934 yeah, like that
@@stonem0013 hahaha
@Rosida Andriyana Right that's why Hugh Grant got caught with prostitutes. Good old English men.
@@jobdoneright5934 he managed to skillfully get himself out of trouble there also! A case study in well handling a PR emergency.
OMG! when she kisses him...my heart fluttered. I live for romance like this
You are all tanatacisists
I so loved this movie & so agree with you! My favorite part was when the two characters climb over the wall & they found “The Secret Garden” behind the tall walls! Julia Roberts read an inscription on a bench that touches my heart to this day! The background story was a husband so loved his wife that the husband dedicated the bench to his beloved wife, who loved that little park. I just loved that scene in the movie!
♥️💜♥️💜♥️💜♥️💜♥️💜♥️💜♥️💜♥️💜
🤨
It would never happen in real life. Because girls never make the move in our culture and if a guy tries to kiss a girl, she would also back off. I know this because I tried to kiss a girl and her head moved backward. But she did give me her phone number though.
Ohh...the way he froze and behaved so shy and gentle , when she kissed ...ahh .....love it 😊😊
I think Will is one of the few people that treated Anna with respect. He made her feel like a regular person and a lady rather than the famous celebrity she is. Hence why she kissed him and fell for him later down the track.
He was also such a breath of fresh air, incredibly humourous without even trying and so different from what she was used to. And his politeness and his gentleman behaviour was extremely endearing. She also knew that he knew that she was famous but didn’t crowd him like a fan. Cute.
Meanwhile, she made him take out her boyfriend's garbage.
These two had so much chemistry in this movie.
I mean who can resist Hugh Grant here. Being british plus those blue eyes. I mean come on...
@Ralph Macchiato It is to actually
@Ralph Macchiato It is to me. Plus those eyes are the color of aquamarines
It is the behavour, not the colour of their eyes, that is always important and what people love and stick to it.
I hope i can have a life time actually talk and be friend to hang out with him.
A real lady, that is who! I real life Grant had a hard time finding ladies that were interested in him. He just a simp!
Always laugh when the guy that looks like Ringo says he thought he saw Ringo.
I thought about that as well!!!
He saw his reflection!
Line that made me a Hugh Grant fan, "Couldn't stop him, if you can find an unsigned copy it's worth an absolute fortune."
That, and, "They always do that when I leave."
this film was always going to be a juggernaut. Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts, two amazing actors.
I gotta admit if she had hurt him one more time I wasn't going to watch the rest of the movie... but yes, they did belong together.
Same! I was like, poor guy, he deserves better. But at the same time you can notice they were made for each other.
Nah!!!I'll watch the movie hundreds of times if possible, I thought that a more brazen man would have been better because Will loved to use such boring sentences, anyway it ended fabulous
Yea he was very much the passive doormat and she took advantage of that for the most part
I love this scene because it shows so perfectly a moment where you feel so comfortable with someone that you only just met
That typically lasts about a week.
"surreal but nice" I love him.a man with blue eyes and a warm smile.
I have blue grey eyes and a warm smile but if you ever met me you would be scared out of your skin lol

One of the best casts ever in this great comedy! Love this movie. Supporting characters were awesome.
That for me would be the other Richard Curtis classic Love Actually
I swear ive seen this movie more than 10 times, I love the chemistry between these 2!!
i have seen this movie more than once and this is the only time that i realized hugh must have made a reference to pretty woman when he said, not in a prostitute way.
...everybody moves on!
Thanks for making me realize NOW :)
Yeah, I caught that. If you look closely, Julia smiles a bit. I read that was ad-libbed by Grant
@@iamsokyut where he said so??
the script is brilliant , the acting is superb , but these days we tend to overlook the talent of the director , well for this modern classic it was ROGER MICHELL , and the direction was simply sublime .
I think it would have been amazing with Nicole Kidman, I don't think Julia's good in this.
Without Richard Curtis's script....

So this is how Bernard Black set up his book shop, by shoplifting. It honestly explains so much.

Hahahahaha...OMG it’s literally Bernard Black

HHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA
The depth of Anna’s character. She is a very emotional person (no wonder she became and actor). You can see the slight panic on her face after she kisses him. Like ‘what did I just do? How will he react?’ But he indirectly assures her with his apology in regards to the ‘sureal but nice’ comment.
The way she looks at him as he tries to give her something to drink/nibble is also quite endearing.
6:30 I love how in nearly every julia roberts film after 1990 they always slip in some little reference to Pretty Woman
Hugh grant has great hair.
Always, great hair :)))
irresistable ❤

but we can rewatch :-)
This is our Queen Julia 👸 ❤
This movie is so good, legends actors plays together. And spike 😂. Actuelly on of the best movies ever, in my opinion.
I have watched notting hills so many times that i remember all the dialogues as well as expressions of all the characters of this movie....
I've seen this movie more often than I should admit, and I could just watch it again and again.
It's a perfect movie, not just a great cast, great script, but also great camera work (the camera coming closer on the kiss, zooming out after the kiss 10:25 - its connection with sound and music fills my heart) and the stage design with its great eye for detail. The keyword of the kissing scene is "surreal", right? 9:32
Now rewind and take a closer look at the fridge with all the magnetic poetry tiles 8:23 ... there it is, just a bit to the left of the screen's center. And that's no coincidence.
I LOVE that movie!
There are a lot of pointers' in this film... e.g. Anna buys a book about Turkye, in which that language Anne or Anna means 'mother'. Prediction of the Closing Image? (Wout Blommers)
Another one. William and Spike are playing the movie Gramercy Park. Google this New York p[lace and surf to 'notable residents'. Who lives there on #7...??? Coincidence...? And there is a lot more... Just a tip... What about Anna's hair...
In that case, you will certainly appreciate the blackboard at 7:19. Will has just apologised for the untidiness of the place and the blackboard reads, "SPIKE, CLEAN UP".
So much thought has gone into every single frame.
I thnk the Brits have a good command of comedy and their one liners are spot on...Let's have some more, shall we !

They don't make movies like this anymore. Hugh Grant and Julia had perfect chemistry. This is one of those movies you can watch every year and never get bored
This movie touched my heart. It was as if real. They weren't acting all of them ,they were living the characters. I could relate myself with the sentiments and the humility of the leading character. The script and the casts were absolutely adorable. Absolute fit. God bless all.😍
Notting Hill. A travel book shop that doesn't sell any books. Has 2 staff. Definitely fiction.

When this movie came out I was only 7. Watched it a few years later when I was 10/11 years old maybe. Now I'm 32 years old and the movie still hasn't aged a bit! As good as the first time I watched it! Absolutely love this one!
apricots with honey speech was both hilarious and pathetic. Followed on by the heavenly speech and boy it is heartbreaking. You see it Anna’s eyes, she acts with trepidation, but deep down she is moved by William’s honest admission. The kiss that Anna initiates IMO shows off her vulnerability, she is lonely and in William she has found a witty, decent and kind man.
One the best RomCom of all time. Great chemistry between Hugh and Julia.
I have to admit this movie is one of my guilty pleasures. Charming but not a tear jerker. Great characters and story. "Would you like my phone number?" "Tempting, but, no." "Right"
This is a movie that me and family often watch when we are all together - my dad always complains, "oh no, not this chick movie again," and then ends up being the one who laughs the loudest at all the funny scenes. Particularly the ones where Will pretends to be a journalist from Horse & Hound. The perfect feel-good movie!
It’s a comedy which is genderless but the romance shouldn’t be just for women, men like romance too.
@@fayesouthall6604 Yeah I agree, as a single guy it kinda gives me the feeling of being back in a relationship for a little while. It's nice

So many years later I still love this film.
Thank you Richard Curtis!!!! Without you, my top 2 romantic comedies would not exist!
Inviting her back to his place to use the phone wouldn't work now, since mobile phones are so ubiquitous (they did exist in 1999, but were not so commonplace...
Or Rufus would have asked for a selfie ;)
Yes that's true. I remember my Father telling me that they used to have pagers for work instead of mobile phones. 1999 seems like a long time ago if you think about it from that perspective when it really wasn't that long ago.
Priyamvada Arte - This scene is still unrealistic to think about it, because not many people had mobiles at the time, but an actress of her calibre should have had one- My sister must have been one of the first people to have a consumer mobile phone in the UK, about 1994- (I remember being horrified because it cost her 60p a minute to make a call at the time)- I on the other hand hated them because I thought they were so impersonal when I would overhear people's conversations in public, and didn't get one 'til 2002 (when it started to get embarrassing not having one).
We see Tarquin the Time Out journalist use one later in the film.
@@Summerbunny15 Disagree, this character (Roberts') would have been old enough to not want one in '99, AND part of her story is escaping the trappings of fame, i.e. wishing to be left alone.
love this film, how many people have dreamed of something like this.....famous person coming in and just chatting and having a conversation.....and that moment after the kiss....apologizing and she going with it...neither one trying to make too big a fuss over the kiss right away.........brilliant
I once met a famous person that way, Robert F. Kennedy about a year after he was elected to the Senate. I'll spare you the long story, but a group I was with was escorted to a waiting area before a speech he was to make. We walked into a small meeting room, and there he was. He was perfectly charming and never acted as if our presence was an intrusion. He engaged us in conversation for several minutes, until it was time to make his appearance.

all the comments by those romcom original lovers like myself... may i add here a brief, albeit possibly worthy observation? Hugh says "the phone is on the landing" ... Their ability to focus on each other, and the pacing, allowing them to see each other and fall for each other... has everything to do with being alive, and being present, breathing... and the fact that people are out and about and normally distracted while walking with a coffee, and not a coffee and a phone, how life was that we may not see again... misz Sonobella how
Barcelona world what HOW? 🙄🙄🙄
misz Sonobella that movie is terrible. The guy has 0 personality throughout the entire thing; she calls him all the way over to her place when she has interviews and he says nth about it, it doesnt even look like he was bothered at all, she cheats on her boyfriend with him and still he apologizes. Then she runs to him with a problem and he takes her in as if nothing has happened and that whole boyfriend thing never happened. And let’s say all that was fine, let’s give them the toxic boyfriend storyline .. after SHE goes to him, she has the audacity to yell at him and accuse him of using her situation for clout . I’m genuinely shocked by how all this was overlooked . And it’s not even the end of it, right after she disrespected him and clearly stated that this was a mistake, he tells her he loved it in the most polite way ever. Then, a few months after he was humiliated, he (AGAIN) goes to her with a huge smile on his face and waits for her to finish the scene. He hears her saying he was just an old friend and she doesn’t know why he’s here, he leaves, rejects her for 5 mins, before he goes running after her again. At the end, in the conference, she acts like she was the victim and he says he was an idiot and he wants her to stay ... and then they get married . good lord what is that ? I’d understand if you watched the movie a long time ago when you were a kid, there’s nostalgia attached to it but I watched it a few weeks ago for the first time and I couldn’t believe people recommend it. It exceeds bad and if it was made today the filmmakers wouldn’t have heard the end of it
