    UNBELIEVABLE! The CFR pipes are amazing. The bike sounds like an angry monster that wants to eat you when you crank the throttle. I know you can’t mention names, but this owner is definitely in a high tax bracket throwing a Stage IV in a 117 CVO RG. Truly amazing numbers, and video.

    So I watched Matt's Vid of the dealer show, wanted the CVO RG in red, had to wait six months...got it, in the six months I watched this vid. Did it. best move I ever made. On the open roads of the northern states , MT, ND, SD lots of space to do well over 107mph. now I am looking for the tuner to get rid of the limiter. Keep us posted Matt, only another few months and my warranty will be done. I'll be in the market !

      It`s not a marginal performance increase from HD stuff to aftermarket. In some cases it`s 20% or better. If keeping warranty is important than by all means use HD parts, but if you want performance per dollar go aftermarket. Fuel Moto is a very good example of quality, reliabilty and performance .

    I had Stage III (107 to 114) installed on my 2018 FXLR. I believe that the cons of fitting such upgrades should also be mentioned for full disclosure (perhaps there are none for touring models??). While the increased power and torque on a relatively lower weight HD is awesome and I love it, there are some downsides. First , the high capacity clutch disks on a cabled (archaic) clutch mechanism makes pulling the clutch lever in really really really heavy and riding in city traffic for some time is a choir and not pleasant for one's left hand. Also, the SE chrome mufflers are incompatible with the upgrade because they can't take the heat and yellow -which is not a good look. To mitigate these issues, I installed after market 'adjustable' gear leaver (which meant I also changed to an 'adjustable' brake lever so that I had matching levers) and installed heat shields to cover the discoloured SE mufflers - which really detracts from showing off the otherwise nice looking slip-ons.

    • @MattLaidlaw
      @MattLaidlaw  5 лет назад

      Hmm. I know they install a heavier clutch spring but I haven’t had people complain about it. The SE pipes should not discolor. Did a Harley dealer install the kit? Is it tuned properly?

    • @nevillegreg1
      @nevillegreg1 5 лет назад

      @@MattLaidlaw . Stage III installed by HD dealer. Tuned by same HD dealer using SE tuner standard programs. I subsequently had the bike Dynotuned by the HD by which time they had approval to replace the discolored SE slip-ons under warranty. However, the replaced mufflers also went yellow (the yellowing occurs near where they connect to the headers).

    @matt Fantastic review as always! You are the best!
    By looking at the numbers graph, I see that having the stage 4 kit wud actually mean that you lose the horsepower and more importantly the torque, until you reach 4k rpm, only after which both Hp and torque increase. The stock Hp and touque numbers are higher than the stage 4 kit numbers until 4k rpm. Correct me if my understanding is wrong. I pressume usually 60-70%(or even more) of riding would typically be under 4k rpm. So how far is having this kit advantageous?! Is it worth it...

The compression , inches, 64mm throttle body, CVO low restriction mufflers ? Is the CVO clutch less efficient than the upgrade? I just purchaser the identical machine same paint chrome etc. I wonder if I would be wise to toss all the guts of my engine except the crank and rods.

  • @markmaxwell57
    @markmaxwell57 5 лет назад +13

    The problem with the stage 4 kits are the inability to use the power they produce in sixth gear due to the speed limiter. My '18 Street Glide hits the speed limiter before it red lines in 5th gear! That leaves a hole other gear that you can't even get into the powerband in. Question: do you know of any work-around to shut off the speed limiter. I can live with the rev-limiter but the speed limiter kind of defeats the purpose. Kind of bummed that Harley now wants to regulate how fast I want to go. I know there is an argument to be made why anyone would want to ride faster than the speed limiter allows but that should be my decision not Harley's...unless there is some design flaw they're not wanting to disclose at the higher speeds? I have heard nothing of a DOT regulation requiring speed limiters is there? Love the bike, love the power of the Stage lV just wish I could utilize it's full potential...just sayin'

    I would have to disagree with you on this Matt, there are numerous third party warranties that cover aftermarket components as long as they are dealer installed and proof of being dyno tuned. My 107 with an aftermarket cam that costs about $1800 makes 120TQ and 110HP. . And a 114 with the same aftermarket cam swap I have makes over 130TQ and almost 120HP all while being much less money than the stage 3-4 from Harley.
    Numerous shops have said that the stage 3-4 kits fail constantly due to the lifters breaking and holes being burnt in pistons and valves due to how lean the tunes are that are included in the Harley kits, not to mention cylinders going out of round or cylinder spigots cracking.

    I’m curious as to how much ridability you lose in the lower rpm... like around 2200-3000. The cams come on about 4000 rpm, does that mean that at cruising speed /rpm, does it constantly feel like you need to downshift, does it feel like you are lugging the motor?? I’m thinking that sometimes a milder build could be better for most peoples riding.... thoughts?

    What are the CFR pipes ? The canon screming eagle or other ones ? Those can be put for a stage 2 (cam changed) ?

    Thanks for the video Matt. My buddy has a 2012 skunk glide. Will those factory 47 bars fit his bike?

    I'm proud to say I own one of these beautiful bikes. I had zero interest in trading my black road glide very happy,,,,,,until I saw this bike!! I wish I knew how many of this color (silver) were made in 2019, mine is #671, I'm not sure if that is #671 of all 2019 CVO Road Glides, or #671 of the silver/chrome ones,,,,,,anyone know??

    Were those dyno specs with the CFR mufflers or is that just a stage 4 comparison to stock dyno chart?

    Matt, I enjoy your videos. With the Stage upgrades to the M8, especially 117's, have you seen more problems - specifically with the oil sumping. I'm hearing a lot about that and would love to know your thoughts.

      @MattLaidlaw  5 лет назад

      Nothing recently. HD has gone though a couple versions of the oil pump. We do these kits all the time. People like them. Just make sure you weigh your options between the stage 3 and the 4. The 4 isn’t necessarily better than the 3.

    I thought all the RG CVO came with Stage 4 upgrades. Why feature this bike?

    Hey Matt, I have to switch to a trike due to balance issues because of nerve damage caused by diabetes I have to get a trike. I’m looking at a Tri Glide, how about a review and customization ideas for it.

    The bike comes with the 117, why change the internals for 2699 when it seems there is no gain, what has changed from the stock 117 vs the stage 4 117 upgrades..?

      About 30 more horse power and 15 ft lbs of torque

    Is the warranty still valid if you fit an aftermarket exhaust?

  • @saddle8bag
    @saddle8bag 5 лет назад

    Dayum. That things got the lungs to leave Gold Wings sucking its exhaust. A little on the loud side though. I prefer the exhausts on the black one.
    I see Cali is issuing $1000 tickets to cars now for loud pipes. Are they letting bikes slide?

    what about purchasing an extended warranty at purchase , will this kit be covered under the extended warranty too beyond the original 2 years?

    • @MattLaidlaw
      @MattLaidlaw  4 года назад

      Yes. As long as you install the kits within 2 months of purchase date or buy the Additional screamin Eagle coverage.
