I think on a back day starting with pullups for strength and then cable pulldowns for volume is probably getting the best of both worlds. Maybe a 5x5 of weighted pullups and then, two minutes later, a 3x10 of lat pulldowns (at a much lower weight, of course).
I have a nice doorway pull up bar. During the lockdown I was doing 50 pull ups a day no matter what workout I'm doing. Sets of 10. Got pretty jacked! Keep working you'll get it!
Nice video. I wish I could do pull ups. I've been doing negatives for months and I'm still not there yet, I just get better at negatives. It would be awesome if you could talk about how to build the strenght to do pull ups for those of us who can't do even one.
Hey it's been 4 years, how has your pull up been?
for real how are your pullups?
Probably gave up
Lower the bar so that your feet are touching the ground with bent knees. Plant your feet on the ground and to the pullups. Initially you'll have a lot of your weight resting on your feet and as you progress you're relying less and less on your legs
Love the vs series! Could you do a series/ep on working your way up to a full range pull up if you can't even do one.
Excellent advice. Very Helpful to me.
Always putting out great info, incredible! Keep it up guys!
When you're fighting, pulling the opponent down is actually much more important
Thank you for mentioning that it is fine to do only 5 and improve with the time. I felt that I need to reach each time at least 10-12 just like in the other exercises
good video guys. I'm sure you will make a video on the different grips of pull ups and what each one offers . Pronated, supinated, neutral? I'm assuming all are still lat dominant movements regardless?
It would be the one you can do in the proper rep range from mass while using the proper form. Half assing pullups for sets of 5 using primarily biceps will not do much for your back.
Awesome video guys! Love these videos and the podcasts. So much knowledge! :) Quick question, you guys used an underhand grip and to my knowledge, I know it as a chin up. Is it just the same thing? Just want to know the correct terminology. ;) Also, what do you guys think about using overhand grip for pull ups i.e. wide grip pull ups/ wide grip lat pulldowns? That's what I've been using in my workouts to work on my lats. Keep up the great work guys!
I also know the underhand grip as a chin up, vs the overhand as a pull up.
S Hawes Technically a chin up is supinated.
I have absolutely no upper body strength. I’m doing the pull downs just so I can start feeling muscles in my back. One day I’ll get there!
rubber bands and assisted pull up/dip machine are usefull for improving pull ups, cables are more isolated
I too ..I can't do a pull up
Awesome i can’t do one pull up Can you do a video on how to do pull ups for beginners I work out at home
Haha loved the cross fit dig!
CrossFit is the jack of all trades of fitness, they aren’t the best athletes, they aren’t the strongest, they don’t look the best, they are just decent at multiple things.
Use resistance bands as assistance bands and pull ups can scale from regression
To build your lats, would you say one grip is more optimal than the others? In the video where you pre-exhaust the last Sal used a supinated grip when doing the lat pull down, would you use the same for pull ups?
Gabriel Contreras Either grip is fine
I love how they keep on cutting each other off.
Just do three maximum pull ups at any give moment and you will be surprised at how fast you can grow your strength.” That’s very good advice.
Siiick
Your video is very informative but there's one problem your camera is not clear anuff that's all.
I weigh 175 lbs. Why is it I can do a pull up but cannot come close to pulling down the same weight?
Can doing Lat pulldowns increase your strength for pullups?
Absolutely. Think of a pull up as college and the lat pull down is elementary school. Elementary school prepares you for college but they're not equal.
The point I'm making is pull ups are one of the exercises that you need in your utility belt if you're serious about being strong.
Yeah for sure it helps when you do pulldowns it builds your strength to do pull-ups.
Can pull downs build good lats alone
i cant do 1 pullup but am quite strong on strict pulldowns and my back is my best body part so i d go with pulldown fo sho ... on contrary my friend is very good in calisthenics but his back is mediocre at best ... maybe its genetics but ....
Cool story bro you aren't strong at pulldowns if you can't even do 1 pull up
I get more lat activation from pull-ups.
You guys interrupt each other a lot haha
Haha! I was gonna comment that the guy with the beard and Nikes loves to talk over people. He does it all the time. Usually I just hear douchebags talking over women in that way but he does it to everyone.
At the same time, there is still some useful information in these vids
Clearly havent heard their podcasts! Its INSANE!!! LOL
Put your body weight on a pull-down bar and see if it’s easier
they are not doing pullups, but chinups. sigh.
I agree with you 👍
Rightword is pullups, not chin ups. Chin ups means u have pull it ups till chin for proper workout..chin up can also use in modelling purposes.they should do their chin up to perform good poisture when they do cat walk.
pull up? thar's chin up
Closed chain are ALWAYS superior. End of .
This is chin ups, not pull ups
uhhh.. you are showing chin ups, not pull ups
A chin up is a type of pull up.
As in a chin up you are pulling your body up towards the bar.
Is this even a serious question?!
I learned nothing new
These bozos don’t even know chin ups vs pull-ups. Zero credibility. I’m out.
