We need a 2nd swing in NJ. Great review

Wish you had tested a Paradym 9 wood. I am 82, have played over 60 years, have a 16-17 handicap. I play forged blades with traditional lofts, 7 iron 34 degrees. My current shafts are 120 gram stiff flex Rifle Lite steel. Given that carry distances get shorter and shorter over the years, my pro says these are too heavy for me and I am in the process of making changes.
First, I still love the forged blades and don't like large game improvement heads. So I am trying out reshafting with light steel shafts, Nippon NS Pro Zelos 8 stiff flex that weigh 87.5 grams. Huge difference from 120 grams. I do get about 7 yards more carry with my 7 iron, and am working on improving my swing to increase that (that's the thing about golf, you can keep learning and improving technique you whole life). But want to consider Recoil Dart 75 F3 graphite shafts before making a final decision.
Next, based on the advice of my pro and what I have seen in many RUclips videos, is taking the 3 and 4 irons out of my bag. A year or so ago I added Callaway Epic Max 3W, 5W and 7W to the bag, with Hazrdus Smoke IM10 60 gram regular flex shafts. Nice clubs, brand new from Callaway pre-owned, affordable with the good discount. The key change is the 21 degree 7W, which gives me more carry than my 4 iron. I had begun to struggle to get 160-165 yards with the iron, but get 165 up to an occasional 180 with the 7 wood.
Next, my pro suggested even replacing my 5 iron, perhaps with a utility club. I had begun to struggle hard to get 150-155 yards carry given the weak loft. I prefer a high lofted fairway wood. So yesterday I bought a Callaway Paradym 24 degree 9 wood with the Aldila Ascent 50 gram regular flex shaft from the PGA SuperStore taking advantage of trade in bonuses. Otherwise the high price would have been a big hurdle. I tried it out today in the practice bay and was extremely pleased with the results, both as Kevin notes, the acoustics and feel as well as the distance. For some reason my data with the 9W failed to export to me by email, but I recall it seemed like I was getting carry close to that of the Epic Max 7 wood.
Now I face two possible next steps. First, I hope that reshafting my 6 iron with a lighter shaft will improve my carry to avoid having too long a gap between it and the 9 wood. Second, I am severely tempted to trade in my Epic Max fairway woods and replace them with Paradym woods. This would probably involve eliminating the 3 wood and just getting a 5W and 7W for two reasons. One is cost. The other is that I have watched videos where pros increasingly recommend that average middle handicap recreational golfers would be better off dropping the 3W because they don't have the swing speed to launch it high enough and lose distance, and instead would get the same or even more distance using a 5W. No 3W would be a big change after 60 years. But if the Paradym 5W generates more ball speed than the Apex Max 5W, and if I can swing the 50 gram Aldila Ascent shaft a bit faster than the 60 gram Hzrdus Smoke shaft, it could be a viable change.

Million dollar question. How does it compare to rogue fairway wood?

3500 spin is perfect for a 3 wood. If you're looking for lower spin tee it up or get a Stealth Plus lol. Great vid!

That TD 3 wood looks amazing. Cannot wait to test that baby out. Thank you for showing the club at address as so many only want to show the bottom and not what a player sees when looking down at the ball.

The TD is the players fairway wood. Super consistent and very neutral. Unless you never use it off the deck, you don't really want your fairway to spin at 2500 IMO

Love the passion for the reviews. I am concerned with the front to back dispersion on something like the 7w.

would have been nice to see the X version in a 3 wood compete against the other 2

Does the 7 wood have the adjustable hosel? Looking at having a 7 wood built to play around with. Did you guys notice a large difference in comparison to the rogue st?

  • @aprincey1536

Why not test the X version 3 wood? From other testing I’ve seen, it’s as long and low spinning as either of the other models, more ball speed too. Maybe they don’t want to show that?

I recently sold my Sim Max 3 & 5 because their deep faces weren't consistent off the turf. Bought Rouge ST Max 3 & 5's and they're amazing. Super forgiving, and extremely easy to hit off the turf. distance too was better. About 5 yards longer in carry indoors on TrackMan. These Paradym seem just as good and easy to hit off the turf, but not a fan of the adjustable hosel, dont like the look and you lose the internal Batwing on the hosel side. Even though Callaway says the hosel itself acts like a Batwing element, but im not buying it.
