      Living in Newcastle I'm also a bit loopy about bridges (as I am theme parks and coasters). It's great having these on my doorsteps and there has been some interesting proposals for new bridges over the years across the tyne in Newcastle and even further down towards the coast (Where Shawn was on the Metro). The Tyne Bridge is due some maintenance work soon (long overdue) which will also give it a much-needed lick of paint. Expect it to be covered in scaffold for a few years in the near future.

    First of all, I really enjoyed the video and the information contained therein. As a point of interest, the High Level Bridge was featured in the iconic 1970s gangster movie “Get Carter” when a scene that included Michael Caine was actually filmed on the bridge.

    Hey, I'm the Geordie you met at Blackpool the other day (it was awesome meeting you). Glad to see you enjoyed your visit, I do like where I'm from. In my 25 years living here I think I've seen the swing bridge moving once, it's definitely rare these days. Somewhere on RUclips there's a documentary showing the machinery that moves the bridge, if you're interested.

    Thanks vor sharing. Very informative. I wondered if any visitor can criss-cross the 7 bridges in one visit by car? You did that by walking which is actually fun and lovely. Likewise, I would love to see those two bridges swing and tilt respectively.

    • @zeddeka
      @zeddeka Год назад

      Some of the bridges aren't open to cars. The Millennium bridge is pedestrian / cyclist only. The High Level Bridge is bus / pedestrian / cyclist only with the upper deck for trains. The King Edward Bridge is only for trains.

    Really cool vlog! I live just 40 minutes or so away from the Quayside in this video! I actually live a ‘stones throw’ away from the River South Tyne which connects to make the river in this video! Did you visit the Discovery Museum? Its a free attraction across 3 floors and is FULL of north east history, and is packed with interactive elements, including a model of the red swing bridge which you can operate! Its just round the corner from the central train station!

    Nice video. But I think the first bridge isn't all bad, it has some grace, it is the most minimal. It crosses the river with a single span, a feat of modern engineering. The surface is splotchy and detracts from its appearance.

    Great video, my favourite cycle ride is to Newcastle (from Washington along the old Durham Road) and along to Tynemouth along the river. You mentioned the quayside but at one time it would have been a busy dockside area. Google old photos of Newcastle quayside to see what it was like.

    a worked on that metro bridge over the tyne and on the byker viaduct bridge, copy from the byker viaduct, the byker viaduct bridge was the first of the stressed concrete cantilever bridge in the world that shows how much u know, swing and the high level are unique the rest are crap, the tyne bridge is not the same as the sidney bridge the radius is different and different stress calcs the tyne bridge is crap compared to the swing and high level, u know nothing about bridge building
