      It's harder to create focus in color. In black and white, everything works in service of the composition. But it color, your eye can be drawn to some background rando's pants because they are red rather than focusing on where the composition of the panel wants you to look at. Not to mention in America comics, the colors often obfuscate the great line work underneath and undermine their effectiveness. Bottom line, if you are drawing with black lines, the comic works better in B&W.

    • @luthfeeghazale6206
      @luthfeeghazale6206 2 года назад +19

      I think the reason why Araki's artwork became so godly in SBR is because in 2005, the JoJo series was transferred to the monthly seinen manga magazine Ultra Jump. With a monthly serialization he had time in evolving his artwork as well as able to portray things in which he wasn't able to portray back when JoJo was in Weekly Shōnen Jump. Imagine if SBR and JoJolion was serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump, man he would not have evolve his art that much as he is right now.

The only thing is that there always seems to be the lack of shoujo and josei manga in most manga videos in RUclips which is bit disappointing since shoujo and josei manga has influenced many manga/anime series including shounen and seinen series. Unfortunately, not many people read shoujo because they generalize it as girly, cliched, or having similar manga art when that's not always the case. A popular example, is Rose of Versailles by Riyoko Ikeda influencing Berserk since Kentaro Muira often considered Berserk to be like shoujo in some aspects. Leiji Matsumoto is another artist who was influenced by shoujo as well.

    So glad you touched on Nihei's art. I have been absolutely enchanted by his style, and went from having never heard of him to eagerly devouring every single morsel I can find of his. As you say, his manga is definitely about telling a story without many words, and his vistas are just outstanding, but with the clean lines and perspective you'd expect from someone who had been in construction and studied Design at Parsons, NY previous to being a mangaka. He is hands down my favourite mangaka

    I have a few issues with this video.
    I think "the greatest art in shonen/ seinen manga" would be a more appropriate title, since it does not talk about any other genre.
    Sometimes you say hatch/ crosshatch but I think you actually mean screentones.
    Traditional art is not always cheaper than digital. The tools are pretty expensive if you want quality, if you are going to do colored pages or cover you're gonna spend a lot more. Professional brushes, pens, ink, paper etc can be very expensive. If you already have an ok pc for personal use, you can buy a cheap drawing tablet and pay monthly license for clip studio paint (comic artists's favourite software but you may use photoshop) and you'll save a lot of money.
    Now my personal preference: I would 100% include Takeshi Obata in this list.
