Terrifying Typhoon SWAMPS City in Taiwan

- Typhoon Krathon has landed in Taiwan’s major port city of Kaohsiung, causing extreme flooding. The slow-moving typhoon is lashing southern Taiwan with heavy rain and winds up to 78 mph (125 kph). The storm has left 2 dead and more than 100 injured. It has also caused considerable damage to the power infrastructure, leaving 178,000 homes without electricity. This is the first time in 40 years that a storm this strong has hit Taiwan’s west coast. Schools and offices remain closed for a third consecutive day, with authorities warning people to stay indoors. Krathon is expected to weaken into a tropical depression before hitting the capital Taipei this weekend.
