Actually, I think they did not. Such suites were usually meant to be played in concert or performed at home, just for the fun of it, not as dancing music. But in fact, if you want to dance, you can even try to dance a mazurka by Chopin ;)
So happy to be able to watch this here. Thank you, I've been listening to this piece by Handel and it's like an ear worm. It just makes one want to move in a stately way.
This is Sarabande from Harpsichord Suite HWV 437 in D minor. (Sometimes called No. 11 or also called uite de pièce Vol. 2 No. 4). Usually if you want to find a performance or recording, just type HWV 437 Sarabande and you should be able to find it.
It's a sarande Sir. The basic step is that of a minuet, 1 2 3 4 5 6 although the timing is 1 2 3 4 56 Dance "down-time" as you put it, are the necessary pauses for graceful movement
Honestly, this is very special, like stepping back 300 years, thank you for this video
I didn't think people actually danced to this particular Sarabande. Thank you so much for uploading this!!

people danced to all music, but the dances are lost, only a shadow remains

Geil digga!!!!
The dresses and hairstyles are from the period of "Rococo", not "Baroque"...
@cokpikes Your'e ignorant...
Mais le rococo c’est bien une facette du baroque...si le style rocaille n’est pas baroque, alors Lully est un rocker
the Rococo style is the final of baroque, "genius"
would have looked better if they stayed in pairs and rotated partners instead of whirling around what seems to be without direction
Gefällt mir sehr gut

Pourquoi avoir conservé les poteaux et cordelettes? C'était si facile de les escamoter. Faute de goût et de mise en scène.
hm, not sure of this dance goes with the music ... lots of dance-downtime and they look kind of undecided how they want to proceed, lol
yeh, not top choreography and execution.
