As a kid, I loved reading about Camargue herds and looking at the pictures of these white horses splashing through the French marshes. It's sad that they are slowly decreasing in number. I had no idea...

Wonder how their hooves are looked after in those marshy conditions. As they say. No hoof. No horse. Yet i'm sure these men care for their welfare in every way possible. Very beautiful animals. 💙🐎🌊

Camargue Horses are specially adapted to wetlands and usually don't have any problems with it.

I'm curious as to what steps they are taking to increase the breed numbers and what their breeding program looks like. I remember reading about Camerage horses as a child and it is so sad that they are endangered. I'm sure these horses have very strong feet but I can only think about how much Thrush Buster they go through, living in a marshy pasture!

shabut They are making content on French culture why is it complicated to use the traditional and only known word to describe this activity ? Americans can understand another word no ? When French people do something on an Amercian cultural subject they don't use the approximate equivalent French word...

Actually cowboys learn from Mexicans charros, they invented the bull riding and many tricks after Spain teach some to mexicans, that's the reason many words are from Spanish.

Hopefully these beautifull guys will serve in the program "Rewilding Europe", a population could be separated and reintroduce the wild horse herds in the wild to ocupy the space that the tarpan left. This, along with the reintroduction of the wood bison and the many carnivours that were lost in the last years could save Europe.

While the American hero Buffalo Bill travels Europe with his equestrian shows with great show mimicking the conquest of the West - the «Wild West Shows» - the Marquis Folco de Baroncelli,a French aristocrat breeder of bulls and horses in the Camargue at the Saintes maries de la Mer , attends one of them, in 1905, in Paris. With, already, an idea behind the head. Propose its Camargue guardians in the circus of Bill. Under the tent, he makes a decisive encounter: that of Joë Hamman, a young Frenchman recruited into the troupe for his talents as an actor, rider and stuntman. And who has another string to his bow: he lived among the (real) Sioux Indians of the troupe. “When his father, an art dealer, went to the United States to buy works, his son accompanied him, and, as a riding enthusiast, got hired on a ranch as a cowboy, met Buffalo Bill and the show’s Indians. in 1909 that this happy coincidence becomes obvious Joe Hammab who was engaged in French cinema as a stuntman plays the French «Buffalo Bill». In the quarries of Arcueil or the forest of Fontainebleau, he tries his hand at the spirit of the Wild West, he, the «one of the last Europeans to have been able to collect the memory of the last Indian chiefs» (3) under the aegis of the experienced director Jean Durand. It was then that Baroncelli invited his friend Joë to come and tour on his Camargue lands. A place that suddenly seems ideal to the French cowboy: «Our Camargue recalls some corners of the distant West. Joë Hamman, actor and screenwriter of the films, Folco de Baroncelli, sort of director and supplier, and Jean Durand, director, who created, together, from 1909 to 1914 before the beginning of the 1st World War a score of western in the Camargue, except that unlike the American westerns where the Indians who play in these films are embodied by white actors made up, they are genuine Sioux Indians, some descendants of those who exterminated General Custer and his troops, who play in these westerns shot in the Camargue; Indeed, many Sioux Indians participating in the Buffalo Bill tour in Europe refuse to return to the United States where they are victims of segregation and prefer to stay in France with the Marquis Folco de Baroncelli one of the first Westerners to defend their cause and their culture. The Marquis Folco de Baroncelli welcomed them home and these Sioux Indians married and founded a family in the Camargue so that today there are true descendants of Indians in the Camargue
.The Camargue is thus a strange land of mixture , place pilgrimage of the gypsies of Europe who each year come to honor their patron saint Sara in Saintes Maries de la Mer it is also the land of the guardians, who have watched over the bulls and horses of this marshy region, which resembles the Guadalquivir delta in Spanish Andalusia, since the Middle Ages, so that one of the oldest bullfighting bulls in the Camargue lives, the breeding of the Yonnet family created in 1859 under Emperor Napoleon III. Thus the Camargue bulls are fought in the arenas of the region whether in the Roman amphitheatres of Arles and Nîmes as the more recent arenas built from the 19th century. The tradition remains to let the bulls in the streets of cities and villages accompanied by the guards on horseback in the middle of the crowd, Before the advent of railways and trucks, herdsmen rode bulls from their pastures in the Camargue to the arenas of towns and villages.
The capital of the Camargue, Arles celebrates every May 1st the festival of the gardians, whose origin goes back to the Middle Ages with the creation of the brotherhood of the gardians of Saint Georges in 1315 which imposes games and codes inspired by chivalry.
Arles is indeed the largest town in France because it encompasses the natural park of the Camargue.

can't you edgelords just appreciate a lighthearted superficial human interest story about pretty french fields and spotty wild horses without making dumb jokes about "only white? racist horses ahahaha" that's obnoxious enough, but then you turn it into some long comment thread about "white genocide" you cry when people bring up race (even when it's actually about race) but you guys bring it up no matter what the context....
