- Welcome to the Virtual American Trombone Workshop 2022 and the National Solo Jazz Competition.
The National Solo Jazz Competition is one of the most successful and popular jazz trombone competitions in the nation. There are two ages divisions for this competition: Division I features participants ages 21 and younger, and Division II features participants ages 22-29.
Our participants for Division I this year are Ty Waters from the University of Iowa, Haik Demirchian from the Eastman School of Music, and Eli Howell from Michigan State University.
Our participants for Division II are Jackson Churchill from the University of North Texas, Armando Vergara from the Manhattan School of Music, and Andrew Danforth from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
The first guy had incredible skill
As a bass trombonist in high school im very impressed and would love to participate in this

I’m surprised and happy to see trigger tenors playing jazz.
Armando Vergara is killin’ it at 57:00, worth the wait, nice, man
Agree 100%. Wonder who’s currently teaching jazz trombone at MSM.

Где музыка ?
Certainly good players but I really prefer the bass trumpet small bore sound of a good 2b, 3b, Bach 12,16, etc. Gilkes or Mccheseny. Good players either way though.
King 2b forever! Particularly if you can pick up a good vintage model. I have a '38 one - the best horn I've ever played.
🇺🇦💛💙👍
Vous auriez dû inviter Gunhild Carling elle joue mieux que tous réunis.....😁
Interesting, but not great. On the other hand, as a retired part-time trombone player, I realise how difficult this instrument is.
you should post some recordings for us. show us how its done...
Yes please show us how its done.
The trombone has to be played exceptionally well in order to sound vagely interesting. This isn't happening here. If you want to know how to hear how it should be done go listen to Andy Hunter or Dave Steinmeyer.
All of these young stallions played exceptionally well and made all of us proud. If you have no constructive criticism please keep the hating to yourself. How are you gonna compare seasoned pros to these up and coming. Ignorant comment.
