That truck was behaving almost identically to an old Peugeot 1.9 diesel I once had. The engine was a super reliable Bosch injection set-up and with no turbo - basic and super simple/reliable. The car developed a fault almost identical to what you experienced there. It took me a very long time to diagnose it and even then only at complete failure. The two metal fuel lines (supply and return) had begun corroding. There was no fuel supply pump in the system except for the partial vacuum from the injection pump sucking fuel from the rear-mounted fuel tank.
For me, those fuel supply lines had lost a small support clamp. The metal pipe had a pin prick hole from corrosion. If I went around a corner in a particular way, the metal supply pipe would flex very very slightly but enough to allow the pin prick corrosion hole to open up, allow air into the injection pump supply line and thus starve the injection pump of fuel. The engine would miss, then act normally or sometimes completely cut off. Obviously once the engine stopped running, the car couldn't go around a bend and so the pin prick hole would seal back up.
The fault had me demented. Two separate garages couldn't diagnose it. Eventually I found it when one day that corroded metal pipe finally decided to completely give up and spat its contents onto the road when parked up. It was a really easy fix for me. That car was a love hate relationship for me!

Excellent video Wes :) also I know my late Dad 1963 McCormick International B414 Loader tractor Desiel motor 40 hp , 1968 International 624 A Desiel with German Desiel motor, 1978 International 724 B loader Desiel fuel motor German all had Bosch Desiel fuel pumps and ran super low and under high idles lower than limiter on RPM gauges said when run ! Plus all went 4 years apart from each tractor on Fuel Pump had get rebuilt totally plus paint and mechanic at time said Summer and Winter fuel hard on them like a headache come and goes hard won't go away too but sometimes! Also he said should use 500 ml of GM Automatic Transmission fluid 2 on tractor Desiel motor ever month for Winter months or 3 months for Summer Season or every month too and Fuel Injection Cleaner in each months ! Plus that back in 1990's and but could use in any Desiel motor vehicle out and company makes them! But as 2005 Minstery of Transportation & Roads in Canada won't let put Automatic transmission fluid in Desiel fuel motor for travels road has License plate on but Farm or Big Heavy Duty like Backhoe and Dozer still could but in 2010 only farmers are able to but not Stake trucks or Highway trucks of 18 wheels or fined plus got drain put new fuel filter and fuel in ! But combines , tractor are loud do it and not fair! But only stuff License plate vehicle Desiel have use brand Kleen- Flow fluid of Conditioner all Desiel motor and still use high quality grade of Fuel Injection cleaner! But if find Champion brand Fuel Injection cleaner Wes get it does super job Canadian Tire stores in Canada used sell it but 2015 last and saves Fuel Pump in Gas and Desiel motors plus injectors too ! Champion Brand bottle is 1 quart black in color and last if fuel for 6 months to years and cleans wonderfull too! But check with lots Auto Parts companies Canada and USA don't sell it use cost $10.00 for bottle but each ml use better protection and solved issues too and costly repairs too! Did test on my Dodge D350 Desiel motor and help it plus some farmers did test for me too on gas plus Desiel motors they want me get bottle of 24 worth did when available in stores but no more to ! Even go exhaust Don't get fumes after using Champion brand and Desiel smell nothing also gas too! But now I use is grey bottle of STP Total Treatment fuel injection and carb cleaner in fuel tank for Desiel and Gas motor! One more thing on Champion bottle stuff save fuel get best MPG if see too! Happy Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend Wes :) also families and friends to and You Tube Viewers to in USA 🇺🇸 !

Just watched the area diesel left this comment.
With the supply pressure going wild. I wonder if the check valves in the supply pump are not sealing. So the p pump test port sees the pump diaphragm movement instead of a nice steady pressure held by the pump check valve.
Requiring a less that 10 micron. Filter between the tank and supply pump..
I have been dealing with sediment in gasoline engine mechanical fuel pump.

Hello Wes, Bosch had a service bulletin on these pumps back in the late 90s. Excess assembly lube on the lower barrel o-rings at the factory in Brazil where these pumps were built would cause the plunger to stick or hang in the barrel when hot. The heat would cause the lube to expand that was captured between the lower o-rings, constricting barrel and binding plunger. The cure is teardown and reseal barrel assemblies.

Companies such as Area Diesel Services that do great quality work are not always easy to come by in 2022. Lots of parts changers, slow service, and mistakes are often the standard.

Is this an old video? You say in the video "it's hot today. Like 95 degrees Fahrenheit"
Or are you actually experiencing such heat in the upper Midwest in November?

The patience required to repair that pump and not forget a hose or bolt is really something. Nice job once again. By the way i would fire Max and get a good mouser.

Watched the full directors cut version of the Area Diesel Services strip down, rebuild and test video a few days back, top class nerdy detail, plus I got the heads up that todays video would have a happy ending. Thanks Wes, and thanks to the guys at Area Diesel Services.

I keep saying I want to sell my gas truck for a bigger one with a diesel. Then I see a repair video and the cost of diesel in Pa and remember why I haven't lol

I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Also watched the P pump rework. Nice to see real experts at work. Another pleased customer and with a truck such as this one, it is worth it to go the extra mile.
