so we're blaming her when she offered him to come and get the kids? I don't think this lady was in the wrong I think she was in a very tough spot and had no one to help her she tried to do her best to keep her kids with their biological family he just didn't want to help. He left he left and didn't care enough to come back to get his kids and the story then later on after he suffered all the guilt from the shit now he wants to find them that's pretty messed up if you ask me but okay...

The guy made the Korean lady sound like some gold digger that only married him for money but if you look at part 5 she was saving all the bonds he was sending her and kept all of his letters and photos even after giving kids away.
She wished one day her kids would find her because there was no way a single mom would be able to raise 3 kids on her own in S. Korea. If her first child was an American, I'm sure she would have decided to send him for adoption as well. The guy basically went deadbeat and she thought he found a new girl at Vietnam. You have to understand, South Korea after Korean War was one of the poorest nations in the world. It took time for the nation to get to where it is today. She probably thought the kids were better off going to America and get loved and educated by an American family instead of living with her in poverty.
Single mom with 3 kids didn't really have much options in 70's S. Korea.. My grandpa worked at Camp Humphreys and he saw a lot of so called "yang-saekshi"which translates to American wives (Korean women who are girlfriends to an Ameican soldiers).
Don't get me wrong, there are people who raised the kids by themselves and kids turned out well but mixed kids who lacked father figure just had hell. I remember up until late 90's when you were mixed and you didn't have your foreign parent figure around (usually fathers), people viewed you as "oh his dad was a soldier who lied to a Korean girl and just enjoyed her and left her when his time was done." I lived in Itaewon, a town where lot of foreigners lived, when I was a kid and two of my bestfriends are mixed Koreans. It's only from mid 2000's when those stereotypes disappered as you saw someone with mixed background on Television and movies and you stopped hearing about GI going deadbeat.

You can't call the man a deadbeat. I was stationed in Camp Stanley near Seoul. It was saddening that young girls just graduated from high schools showed up at the outside the base clubs and sold themselves and that's how they could and still can make a living but unfortunately the third party mamasun have to have the bigger share. I had several friend with Yoboseo and monthly fees and in the same time those prostitutes have other clients when my friends were out in the fields for two weeks or a month. On the other hand there was this ugly prostitute that wanted to pay me to marry me so she could come to US. She was as old as my father and ugly I should say.

      Fass Strokaa
It's one thing to just have a girlfriend but when you have a baby and decide to marry someone you gotta take care of your women. I know what you are talking about. My grandpa used work at Camp Humphreys and those girls used to rent rooms in his house because their boyfriends were GIs. From his story, a lot of "good girls" actually ended up marrying them and came to America. One of them actually got my grandpa the gig to work at the base which was really big for him.

Let It Takeoff Someone uploaded the full video and I watched it. It even has a part where the twins reunite with the guy and rheu take him to Korean restaurant. You're logic is so stupid that I don't know where to start. I guess by you're logic, people can't make comments after watching a documentary, news footage, or etc. Get the fuck outta here. The deceased mother saved all the bonds he sent her and kept everything involved with twins and left it to her son when she died and that's the fact. Your dumbass call two three paragraphs essay? I know a lot about you already haha.

My uncle met his wife while serving in South Korea. He is 71 years old now and she is 68. She is my Aunt Yong and one of the strongest and best women I know. Her entire family (parents, sisters and their spouses) were all able to move to the U.S. with him, so I do not see how this man could not get his wife and children over here. Something doesn't ring true about his story.

So she refused to send the twins away without her and her other son. Later, when she thought Thomas abandoned her for good, she send the twins away, because it was hard for mixed babies to live in Korea, and she thought being in America would be a lot better for the twins' well-being.

It isn’t as easy as you think. Especially since there was a child with another father who was Korean. Women with mixed children, and the children, were treated badly and she would have had a difficult time supporting those kids. They didn’t just let people waltz in then or now, My uncle fell in love with a woman in France as my father and my uncle and many others freed Europe from the hold that the Nazis had on them. It took my uncle three years and friends with contacts in the government to even get her over here at all. It took a lot of time and a lot of money. Now there are many who walked away, my husband’s biological father left children in Hawaii, Texas, Vietnam, and somewhere in the Midwest. He knew about those children and he walked away. But that doesn’t mean they all did. Easier to judge than to give the benefit of the doubt.

I feel kind of bad for this old, vet dude for obvious reasons. But, when one examines this situation closer, it makes no real sense why he didn't support his 3 legal kids, let alone his two bilogical ones, when he had the opportunity to do so. Why then bring kids to this life and adopt a third one when you have no plans to be there for them emotionnally, physically, or economically? If he doesn't have money, then why not enlist another family member to help him out? I'm sure his parents could have stepped in for this man, for example, until something could have been figured out.
Keep in mind that I also grew up without my old man, so I'm familiar with type of situation. My biological father didn't take care of his paternal obligations, but years later when I looked him up in order to know my roots, he magically wanted to form a relationship, nah, screw that; I just wanted to meet the guy and my half siblings--nothing else. However, please note that his parents at the time when I was a baby, did want to take me in and raise me when he defaulted on his paternal responsibility, but my mother chose to keep me. I would have been happy either way. Everyone just needs to feel like they belong, and that they are wanted and loved.

I just want to start with this isn't an excuse. my dad left me and my mom for a whole other family that ended him in prison where d
he died 3 days later. so I was abandoned too and he was over 60k behind on child support so I get you there I really do....
that being said this is 1960s a time where Americans still believed their country would do the right thing. he was also still enlisted in the army which meant he wasn't allowed to stay there and support them. I think he truly went into a loving relationship with children he loved and assumed that as soon as he left they would be coming too. there was no internet. there was no history you could look up to see that the government is deceitful and doesn't actually care. you believed the propaganda and what they were telling you because it was easier.
again I'm not saying what he did was right or wrong, look at what happened with Vietnam, but i don't think he was malicious in his intentions ever.

My brother is a Vietnam vet. He had a relationship with a woman there. He sent pictures of them both home. She was missing one of her hands if I remember correctly, as I was very young at the time. I remember that my parents, especially our Mother wasn't happy about my brothers relationship. When American soldiers were sent home he wasn't able to bring her with him. Apparently, he had a son with this woman and knows little to nothing about them now. I'd like to find my nephew but have no idea how to go about it. I remember my brother came home and was a different man. Sullen, with an under lying anger. I believe this was because of the quilt over this situation. He's still has the underlying anger and a chip on his shoulder. I'd like to find his son so he can atleast inquire if he's still alive and possibly meet him. However, I've no idea how to go about finding him. Only clue I have is my brother was stationed in DaNang Vietnam before he was shipped out. I keep thinking possibly his AmerAsian son might just be looking for him too and cant find him.

From the comments here I can see that people are either polarized against one or the other people in this conflict. But you'd have to understand the situation is at the time and how people treated the father and mother in their respective countries at that time also if you were a GI and you had married someone overseas and you tried to bring her home you were usually met with contempt by your family over here especially if you had a local sweetheart you left behind her family this could have spent affect you if you were a small town family person or even a city kid from the Bronx your family is telling you that all she wanted was your money just cuz you got kids she'll find another GI and all your your buddies are telling you the same thing and if she's got a kid already who's the father of that child will probably someone who died during the conflict like in Vietnam or Korea or World War II so your suspicion start to mount Plus on top of it you have family pressure saying forget it build your life back here Etc then you have the young woman on the other side of the world she has a child by a foreigner in a very tight Lee held nationalist ethnic viewing type of country wasn't so hard in Europe and the European men a lot of them stepped in and married but there were thousands upon thousands of abandoned GI kids in Europe to but they were just thrown in with the rest of the abandoned children of Europe into the orphanages and many of them were adopted out and came to America on that trip. yes this young woman may have felt that she was abandoned by him on his trip from Vietnam nobody volunteers to go to Vietnam if they don't have to just so they can go to Korea for 30 days to see their family he wanted that family the problem was by the time she offered him the children to bring them over he didn't have any money to get them over any wasn't in the military anymore where they would have helped him possibly do it and I can tell you this the military their words were we're not in the business of taking care of family and we're not in the business of having any buddies bastard kid shipped when he tried to get his orphaned Vietnamese child back to the States while he was still in the military serving and the mother had been killed during an air raid by the Vietcong attack by the Vietcong sadly he did not get his child and does not know what happened to him after all these years because the military they were in the business of helping you take care of your family they were in the business of making sure you gave your life to them and this was just extra stuff Now there's some other things people don't understand why he couldn't bring her and her son over when he first left Korea and this has happened since the beginning of time when there's a country that's had conflicts they've been invaded and their young women unfortunately give in to the power of the food shelter and affection provided by the Conquering or stabilizing Force you can ask this of any young woman in East Berlin who would do anything to get food including dating a revolting Russian soldier to an Iraqi War Widow dating an American GI Who's country had destroyed her world.
Sadly I have a very bad feeling since she had a son previously that her government has listed her as a prostitute or the US military had. This happened during WWII, Korea, Vietnam many soldiers did not know there was this practice. They would even marry with their officers permission but find out when they wanted to bring home their bride they couldn't because the woman's government or the military even their officer might have put something on the young woman's record keeping them from getting a visa to the US.
My ex-husband's father was a governing General over a certain portion of Japan and he said it happened to his own son. George wanted to marry a young woman he met in Japan and even his own father who had control of that area could not get it approved. He tried everything he could and he said I know my son hates me for it because I wasn't able to get her cleared. Even with my level of control over the area her registration as an unsupervised 19 year old left her record open to poor interpretation. My son has never forgiven me. this was a good 40 years later and this family was still fractured by what happened over in Japan.
so many people at the time that this man had his family in Korea would have been pushing him and her to give up on this relationship to find someone else to do what they could to start life without the other I am sure that his family really wasn't supportive until he married someone who understood the nee to find these kids. Most wives over here didn't want their husbands going and finding the ex girlfriend or children of those Liaisons. They were afraid that they would lose their husband to his past, unfortunately all the way around the people are being told out of sight out of mind don't worry about it they'll move on they'll find somebody else they don't need you Etc or they're just gold digging they just want money from you they probably have 20 other guys knocking on the door and you're just another one you know even the Marine Corps has a name for the guy knocking on the back door as you walk out the front. It just doesn't happen over there it happens here too if the guy gets shipped out instead of his friends being supportive they start ragging on how well your wife sleeping with that and she's probably not by the time he gets back he's full of jealousy is completely uncalled for. I went through it myself and I finally told my dearly departed he didn't make it to the staff sergeant if I didn't have time for him when he was home why did he think I I would have time for somebody else as I was working 80 hours a week trying to take care o parent f a very ill and be a good wife at the same time you don't have time to be messing around those women that are messing around they have way too much time on their hands

I guess a lot of foolish GI's did this. It wasn't just single GI's. My dad extended his service in Korea. I was told I have brothers and sisters in Korea. My dad lied to the Korean woman and told her he has a daughter, but his sister was raising her. Eventually, the woman went to an interpreter and sent a letter to my mother, thanking her for raising his daughter. I'm sure the same things happened in Vietnam. My dad eventually left Korea and walked away from his Korean family. I'm sure he lived with this grief. Let this be a lesson to all women overseas where military bases are nearby.

He did if he didn't have the money. He said he was bankrupt. When he signed up to go to Vietnam, he did so because soldiers serving in Vietnam could take leave to certain countries. Korea was one of those countries. I hope your bitterness and pessimism take you far.

Omg and then he says she wanted "money". Does he even know how hard Korean women with mixed children had it back then?? Why do they want to make him look good and her like a money hungry woman.

Smells fishy. I don’t buy it he was probably tired of being at war, hard to be in a place with bad memories come on he got the chance to get the kids it was probably hard for her to maintain and look I don’t really want to judge him but please Mr. Connie is not here to defend herself and you totally make her look as if she was the bad here . Of course she was asking for money you left her with 2 children you think is easy and you oooo it was hard for you to go get them 😂yeah sure you were broke come on give me a break.
