I wish I could bow down and touch the feet of Swami Sarpriyananda and take his blessings. I am completely surprised that I born in the Land called Bharat ( India) where this highest level of Spiritual Teaching Existed . Why Indian Teacher don't teaches all these in our School college and University. We only have Knowledge about the physical world nobody teaches about the Bhramagyan ( Knowledge of Self) that's why we are at the verse of Suffering. Only Knowledge and Practice of Yoga can heal the world and can bring peace and Happiness. Thanks a Ton the Greatest Soul Swami Sarpriyananda for Delivering us Highest form Knowledge to us Duniya sada aapka Rini rahega. @Vedanta Society of New York please upload all parts of Raj Yoga session. Thanks VSNY for Hosting this. 🤗🙏🏻
I so appreciate Swami's many teachings, his wisdom, clarity, humor and vast knowledge. What a treasure he is! He has added a lot to my spiritual studies of 20 some years. As I want to hear every word, perhaps a clip on mic would be helpful when he uses a blackboard. Much gratitude to you Swamaji!
I was electricified by the mention of Mircea Eliade. A few months ago I was reading Mircea Eliade's "Patanjali and Yoga" in which I finally got (for me) a crystal clear explanation of Samkhya dualism. I had a sudden flash of "seeing" that Buddhism IS Samkhya, in that Purusha=Nirvana. As a convinced advaitin/buddhist this experience has thrown me into a kind of crisis quest to find a "view" in which dualistic Samkhya and nondual Vedanta are both true SIMULTANEOUSLY.
"Quest to find a view in which Dualistic Samkhya 'nd non dual Vedanta both true simulataneously" To help uh in ur quest, thr is something called Gaudapada's commentary on "Samkhya Sutras" of Sage Kapila. Originally Samkhya Sutras are considered lost, Ishwara Krishna was a philosopher in 2-3rd century CE who revived this tradition but gave it slight Dualistic look tht we know of this philosophy as today. It's his commentary containing the said original Sutras tht survived. The original Samkya Sutras(700-600 BCE) mi8 contain more Sutras thn wht Ishwara Krishna commented upon. It might be possible tht it was originally a Non-Dualistic philosophy focused on explaining how Dualistic world arose 'nd only tht part survived whr the evolution of Dualistic Universe is discussed. Having said this, after Ishwara Krishna, Gaudapada(the gr8 Guru of Adi Shankara) awrote a commentary on "Samkhya Sutras" giving it a Non-Dualistic Outlook. He argued tht gr8 Sage Kapila taught Non Dualism. In Brahmasutras, Maharishi Badrayana while refuting rival schls of thought held Samkhya in high reverence. In Bhagwad Gita, Mahabharata, Ramayana, Yogasutras etc it's always Samkhya schl of thought which is given utmost respect among all schls of thought.
One day I want to meet you... And seek your blessings... I just want to touch your feet swami ji... You are my inspiration... Your words give so much comfort! You are great support... Love you so much! I would be blessed if you be my guru! 😃
I have been admiring Sarvapriyananda over the years. He's an incredible, scholarly monk that I can listen to for days and years! Humble reverence to him🥰. He's one of those that automatically evokes such reverence! The only other Western teacher I revere is Alan Watts - he explained Hindu/Eastern philosophy SO WELL that I wonder if he was some ancient Vedic sage reincarnated in the West to explain such concepts 😀.
Thank you so much sir to explain the Raja Yoga. One of my fav. Yoga. This is the king of yoga bcoz it is not only telling you something but also experiencing you with your real being.
Very remarkable. Y can’t this be our syllabus in school In graduated manner so by 15 yrs v vl come out as a realised enlightened beings India has rich culture, y is it not easily accessible or is getting lost in generations
Suffering is the one problem and the different yogas are the many solutions. An unfocussed, impure mind causes suffering (raja/meditation resolves that) along with ignorance (self inquiry/jana yoga is the cure). A lack of faith and devotion to god causes suffering (bhakti yoga + karma). Spoken practises like prayer and japa (mantras) help too. They all fix the mind, heart, body and most importantly the soul.
Pranams to Swamiji🙏 Here what Swami explains about Sankhya principles are dealt in deep detail in Saiva Siddhanta. Saiva Siddhanta explains The 36 tatvaas that an individual Jeeva crosses to attain the ultimate. This is the aim of every spiritual seeker and is the very purpose of human birth. Thank you for sharing this wonderful teaching by Swami 🙏
At 59:30, Swamiji says that in Vedanta, chitta vritti nirodha is not necessary. But according to Vedantins, when one begins enquiry with a purified mind, then comes the flash of illumination in the form of the Brahmakara vritti which destroys the ignorance after which it itself gets destroyed just like an alum which removes the impurities of water and itself gets dissolved. How is this different from Samadhi?
Durga Prasad Panda I think the difference is in the practice not in the end goal. In Vedanta you are pointing your mind towards the Brahman, which in turn moves the samsara out and shows its mithyatva. However in yoga the practice is to move away from samsara and all the mithya vrittis. At the samadhi stage what you are left with is not a vritti of samsara. One can call it no vritti or brahma vritti as one is devoid of all the usual vrittis. In around 18th lecture of Aparokshanubhuti Swami ji elaborates this with example of a reflecting surface that is reflecting light from a natural source like sun. Now to light up any object it has to point towards it and light falls from the surface to the object. The two of these are vritti vyapti and fala vyapti. For looking at the sky though just pointing is enough, one doesn’t have to light up the sun which is the source itself. I hope this clears the doubt a bit.
@@bhardwajutkarsh Thanks for sharing your insights. However, I feel practically there are no differences as far as realisation is concerned, although there may be some philosophical differences. According to some others, in the path of knowledge, jnana comes at first, as an intuition and then it deepens into Nirvikalpa Samadhi. Sri Ramakrishna used to say further about Vijnana which comes after samadhi when the whole world is realised as none other than Brahman. Well, let's carry on our practices and keep purifying our minds. Things will become gradually clear 😊. Thank you!

It is the turbulence of the mind which is preventing us from self realisation. The purpose yoga is to calm the mind to be become one pointed and focused so thag there is no turbulance in the mind.
