Very hard. If you want to make ten seconds of 30fps stop-motion footage you have to pose and shoot a bare minimum of 300 times. That's 300+ opportunities for something to break or look off. Plus there's no undo button for stuff like this or traditional hand animation, so if something does go wrong it's that much harder to fix.
When i watched A Grand Day Out, i always found it a bit funny how fast Wallace was hammering, and the sort of roughness of the animation, seeing that it was the first Wallace and Gromit film, from the late 80's, helped on this aspect. Not surprised this became a meme, the internet really is quite an interesting place.
I think it's the looped rocket building soundtrack that makes this many times funnier, coupled with the default fast speed of the hammering and the animation being looped perfectly, it just paints this hilarious image of this being something Wallace is actually doing for far too long, staring intently the entire time, there's something so delightfully and whimsically silly about that in a wonderfully dumb internet way!
Its pure simplicity but with a depth that’s often overlooked. It’s the concentration in Wallace’s eyes. The sheer determination of completing a passion project. He has no doubts, his confidence doesn’t falter. No. He just goes ahead and accomplishes what he wants to do. He could just go to Tesco’s and buy more cheese, but why do a mundane thing like that when he, himself can turn that into an exciting adventure. He doesn’t go to the moon to gain glory and become a celebrity. He goes there for a holiday and to try moon cheese. An experience most people will never likely have. But he did it. He fucking did it. Many people are afraid to follow their dreams, but Wallace. He showed no fear. He’s an innocent man with a timeless quality that will inspire generations to come.
there's something so magical about this video. i have no idea why but Wallace hammering increases my focus so much, i could listen to it for hours and not even get tired of it. it's like Wallace is working with me!!
So it is! 😆 Apologies for the lack of credit, there were so many that I struggled to keep track of them all! Nice work though, that one stood out to me for some reason...
The Wallace hammering for 1 hour video has quickly made it's way through to more or less every person I know. It has come on during meals with friends, playing at work, as an alarm to get ready for bed, as an alarm to wake up to get out of bed and every moment in between. I visit a good buddy of mine every weekend for the whole evening. For the past few weeks, we have watched this entire video from start to finish, discussing theories about what Wallace could possibly be working on for such a long time. The video has raised a number of important questions for us, which I thought I would share as I am keen to hear others' thoughts on our hypotheses. A few things we have picked up on: Wallace is jacked. Wallace's arms are almost the same thickness as his body. If he were to remove his overall, he would undoubtedly be ripped to shreds. It goes without saying that the physical requirements to swing a hammer at that velocity, for such a prolonged period of time would be unachievable for any other man alive today. A further testament to his strength is that Wallace does not waver. He does not falter, slow down, or lose any kind of momentum. He does not even blink. Diving into this a little deeper, it is well known that Wallace is pretty capable of creating some pretty heavy duty inventions. The Techno trousers, the Knit-o-matic in a close shave (huge industrial sheep shaver) the Mind manipulation-o-matic in Curse of the were rabbit, let alone a bleeding rocket. Do we see a single piece of heavy machinery in any of the films? A single forklift? Cherry picker, anything? Of course not, Wallace builds all of these contraptions by hand, manovering the incredibly heavy pieces of sheet metal with his arms. Secondly, perhaps the most pressing question on everyone's lips - what on earth is Wallace hammering? Each time I come back to this video, he is still going. He has been hammering at such a breakneck speed for countless hours. Our latest running theory (we have a few), Gromit is just out of shot working at an equally fast pace, ensuring that materials are being fed under Wallace's hammer at the most efficient rate possible. Whatever he is building, it is on a scale we have never seen before. You might be saying, ' Chris, don't you know he is just building the rocket?' NO! We can see in the film that in order to build the rocket, he is required to hammer at this speed for a mere few seconds. Those few seconds of hammering were all it took to create a literal rocket that took him and his dog to the moon. And back again. I say again, this project is on a scale we are completely unfamiliar with. Of course we don't have the answer yet, because if you go back to the video, you can see that he is still working on it - unless someone has an update on this? What could it be? A single nail? An arc? Is Wallace aware of a doomsday event that he is preparing for? Is Wallace creating a doomsday event? Only time will tell. Personally, I believe that Wallace is trying to patch up a black hole. It would be a suitable task for someone as powerful as Wallace, which would take a significant amount of dedication. If this video has taught me one thing, it is that Wallace is a dedicated individual. He hasn't blinked once for god sake. He isn't afraid of debris, or a rogue hammer claw. He has mastered his craft. Whatever Wallace is working on, we can only hope that it is for the benefit of mankind. If a man equipped with this willpower, strength and knowledge is working against us, I'm afraid we wouldn't stand a chance.
I never really heard about the meme, but pretty interesting. The shot on its own is pretty impressive, but amazing that others have made it a meme. Now that you brought it to mind, I definitely love that one of Wallace as Mario! 😃
I came by the 1 hour video a few days ago, but thought nothing of it, except only to appreciate that the rocket theme cleanly looped throughout. Things that become big, eh?
Funny you used a clip of DHMIS, because I believe there is a parody of Wallace and Grommet in the new series (there is a *lot* to unpack there though lol)
@@SomeBoiOnline whether its to get us in the mood for the new one in 2024 i dont know but they are performing well glad to see not only them back but nick as well hoping this means more films on the way
Great video! Love the thought that for an entire hour he was missing the nail head.
Thank you! That would explain his persistent concentration...
I'm not exactly sure how hard it is to make stop motion, but it's great to see people enjoy a few frames of hard work

Wallace as a character is a meme in itself. Thats why he is such a good character.
He does have the foundations of a good meme.
Wallace is so innocent like come on, how can you not love him

That's a good point yeah, I think the more amateur look of A Grand Day Out definitely makes it more susceptible to memes.
@@SomeBoiOnline you can tell about the roughness from the way that Wallace’s arm is animated.
Indeed, that's what I tried to highlight by zooming in!

The fact that the meme is getting Wallace and gromit more attention is amazing
I lived through Hamster Dance, Badger Badger, Leekspin, Nyan Cat, and now Wallace Hammering. I can't wait to see what nonsense is next.
Nyan Cat sticks out to me 😂
@@SomeBoiOnline You were probably a toddler for Badger Badger, and not even born for Hamster Dance!

Wow. Beautifully put 🥺
Lol i love that a 7 minute video can be made out of just wallace hammering
I thought this while making it 😂
Wallace and Gromit NEED a star on the Holllywood Wald of Fame!
Walk sorry.
Stop lad! Hammer Time!
My favourite comment is "I like to think he is just missing the nail for literally an hour"
"If i keep hammering maybe the voices will go away gromit"
Wallace’s what a British TF2 Engineer would look like in an alternate universe and he builds Sentries with his trusty hammer.
Walice is the ultimate, he strikes fear into the hearts of everything around him.
If I saw "Walice" I imagine he would indeed strike fear into my heart.
To be honest I can see why people can find this funny, I too had this in my recommended for the longest time. Nice dhims reference btw 😂
Thank you, yeah he sat there staring for a good while trying to distract me from work 😂
Wallace hammering makes me feel like I'm making progress watching him work hard
Idk what but he's doing it
Must admit I lost track of where I was in the edit so many times due to the constant few frames of Wallace Hammering 😂
Meme analysis, huh? Can’t say I expected this, but hey new Some Boi Online upload
Sort of did this with the Gromit Mug originally, so thought it was worth mentioning - hope you enjoyed!
@@SomeBoiOnline Fair point. Tbh, I kinda forgot that was technically a meme analysis. My bad
It was about 2 years ago now so no worries!
I saw a version of that but it wasn’t for an hour he was just hammering while saying Gromit if you stop hammering the voices will get louder

SO TRUE! IT VERY MUCH IS!
hooooly cr*p dude
**Bang Bang Bang Bang Bang Bang Bang**
The fact that this is a loop makes it look like there is just a random dent disappearing and reappearing in his arm

HAMMER TIME!
The amount of Dhmis references is amazing.
