Garrett Fromme, IDC Woodcraft
I WISH I had known about this before I'd shelled out for an offline controller that Never turns off, even if the machine is powered down. It's okay for tramming and such, but I can only assume the screen is going to burn out sooner than later.
Having an interactive mirror on the phone is Stellar! I'm not a 'download the app' person and more or less have a good phone for the camera and necessary communications, but this is a must have at long last. Brilliant to the gSender team and you for sharing!
C-M-E, It sounds like you’ve had quite the experience with your offline controller! It’s frustrating when you invest in equipment that doesn’t meet your needs, especially when it leads to concerns about longevity, like worrying about screen burn-in.
The interactive mirror feature on your phone does sound fantastic! It’s great that it provides a more efficient way to monitor and control your machine without needing to keep a secondary device on all the time. Plus, using your phone as a mirror can make the whole process more convenient and streamlined. The gSender team seems to have done a great job creating a useful tool for users like you. Happy CNCing brother!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have the Longmill MK2 30X30. I was trying to use an earlier method to add the remote function to my phone with zero luck. I just spent the last two hours loading the latest version of gSender and going htrough the process in this video. It didn't take two hours but once loaded I just had to play around for while. I am using a Galaxy A51 and it works fine. Again, thank you.
Grampyfollies, no problem brother. I'm glad this solves your remote issues! Happy cutting1
Right agin Garrett, THIS IS TOO COOL. I set up phone & tablet. I built my CNC from scratch. GRBL based with an Arduino uno control board. Started with UGS and could not get it to “connect” to my machine. Tried OpenBuilds for awhile and it worked ok but I was never real comfortable with it. Stumbled onto gSender and haven’t looked back since. Love it. Easy first time set up. Dedicated surfacing page. Easy access to firmware settings. 3 axis touch plate capability. And, of course, as Garrett says, wireless mobile control. Thanks a million for all of your video.
thisoldman7142, right on brother! I'm glad you enjoyed it and found it helpful! I'm looking forward to you putting it to good use and seeing what else you create my friend! Happy cncing!
I had issues with UGS connecting also. Turns out the baud rate, not in the upper tab in the UI but in the Details listed when you right click on Properties was listed as 9800 by default. I ran it for a day but it's slow and clunky in my opinion, especially trying to route it through Fusion. Yeah, it kinda works as a 'better than nothing' option, but I have a difficult relationship with Fusion already and much prefer to break ties altogether. Gsender is SOO much better right off the bat, this was definitely a great cherry for the cake though!
Thank you Liberty! I love your enthusiasm, and the notes you put on my packages! And ……. You have a great name!
andrewwood6285, Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the notes and appreciate the compliment!
I have been working for about 5 years with UGS and UGS does also have an option like this but… It was years ago since I have used gSender and it has really done a great job! Where UGS has kind of stayed the same, GSender has a lot more up-to-date functionality. I’ve looked at all the options, tested them and now I have made the switch to gSender. What a great program and very up-to-date and suitable for both the experienced use and the newbie in CNC land! Thanks!
krekel326, glad to hear you made the switch brother! Happy CNCing.
THIS IS AWESOME!!!! I'm def excited about this feature. I'm gonna use the crap out of it, lol. I might be more excited than Liberty is, lol. Thanks Garrett for showin us this.
Jason, I don't know about that one brother Liberty is pretty stoked! Lol I'm looking forward to you giving it a shot for yourself brother!
This is great. No more criss crossing arms, straining my neck between laptop & router 😊
seancorcoran5172, I'm glad you find it helpful! It's important to have a comfortable setup to prevent strain. Enjoy your woodworking!
thank you Garrett that is amazing i cant wait to download it on my phone and all so get some bit from you too thank you for all the video you have done
Crystlerichards3527, you're so welcome! I'm glad it was helpful for you!
I'm so glad I found this video.
I was hoping to be able to do this as I was wanting to use my tablet but have no USB ports on my tablet so I didn't think I could use it but now I can thank you so much
Ed, no problem brother! I'm glad you found it and that it was helpful! Happy cutting!
Sweet, great option to have, just loaded it up and worked flawless. Will try a program tomorrow. Thank you Garrett.
Dan, right on brother! I'm looking forward to seeing how it went for your carve!
I used UGS for 2 years and was happy but I switched to Gsender 2 months ago and like it very much. I don’t use the phone/tablet feature, but the rest of the program is good for beginners or more advanced users. I run it on a raspberry pi 4 and it works fast and smooth.
Todd, I'm glad gsender has been treating you well my friend. It tends to do a good job overall and the remote feature is just a nice new bonus!
Hi, are you using the Pi instead of a laptop? Am I right in thinking that would make your setup similar to the Octoprint Pi setup on a 3d printer?
Awesome!!!! My setup works great if I am not having to run back and forth between my computer and my CNC. Setup can be a pain sometimes. Having the ability to set up a job while standing in front of my machine will be not only convenient but will also be a time saver. Always great content Garrett! Keep up the great work you do! I, for one, really appreciate all the how-to videos. Without you and a couple others I would still be scratching my head and probably breaking bits.
canman412, right on brother! Glad to hear that this new setup with your phone will be a total game changer for you.
This is a great tool! Thanks Garrett!!!!!! I had heard this was possible but didn't know how to make it work.
You bet brother! I'm looking forward to you giving it a shot!
This is a phenomenal aspect of GSender! I know this will come in handy when im doing my precise movements for Zeroing out my axis's.
Mike, I couldn't agree more brother! It's an awesome feature!
Liberty (and Garrett):
I just received my order, and it made me so happy! The outside of the box said, "Lookee here, Thomas!" (my first name). The inside had lots of cool doo-dads: IDC stickers, little QR code scan thingies to order bits or learn more. I just want to say: You're doing it right. The personal touch really made me smile: free IDC pen and coffee mug? Cool stickers and cards? And you donate a portion of my order to charity on top of that??? Totally satisfied, and Liberty kicks butt! Can't remember a more satisfying purchase in ages. And holy cow! Can't wait to test out The Hog! Thanks!
Hey Thomas, Thanks for letting me know the bits arrived. You're so welcome for the extra goodies, I'm glad you enjoyed them. I feel a lot of business don't treat their customers a people anymore so I've always worked hard to make that one of my top priorities. Happy cutting my friend!
Garret you teach so well I had to put this on my phone eventhough I haven't even bought a machine. Great video tks
samspade2519, so happy to hear this one helped you brother!
😃 Garrett, I don't know why I keep having to rediscover your tutorials! Super clear and limited so there's not too much to absorb at once. I've sort of suffered through the morphing of gSender since 0.7x version, but it quickly became my standard sender from Carbide Motion through UGS and CNCjs. And NOW no more hardware remote devices! Now I have a path for remote/secure access to my workshop network. Thanks for this explanation of this process without my risking screwing it all up! 👍
pnlaw, welcome back brother! I'm glad the videos have been helpful for your so far. I get the frustrations with the gsender/UGS debacle. I'm glad it's been working smoothly for you now though my friend. Happy cutting!
Thanks Garett I just found this and got it all working. Your inspiration and teaching methods are great. I watch you all the time and I need to order some bits from you even though they are expensive as I live in Canada. You are a great inspiration and pillar of the cnc community. Keep up your great work. 👍
barryjefferies, you are so welcome my friend. Keep up the hard work yourself!
Awesome! Cannot wait to get the longmill and g sender and use this. Thanks Garrett and Sienci Labs.
Johnnewell, you are so welcome my friend.
This is too cool. I just got my new Longmill 30 x 30 Mk2 up and running and will add this app.
mikeelliott6794, right on brother! I am excited for you to get everything set up.
thorough video, nice work! picking up a tablet today......didn't even know this was capable with my MK2. excited!
ryancrume, thanks brother! Glad you liked this video.
Garrett this is great news , that is fabulise !
louisdeschamps3430, so glad you liked this one brother!
I agree, I have tried Candle & UGS but gSender is by far my favorite. It's reliable and very easy to use. This remote feature works alot like the Beagle Cam that I use for remote control of my 3D printer so this is right up my ally. I'm all over this like Glenn on a cupcake!!! lol
Jason, I couldn't agree with you more brother. I've always had good results working with gsender too!
I am so going to use this. I have been looking for a way to not have to run around with my keyboard. My solution is two wireless keyboards running on my pc. But I still need to run around zeroing and probing. This is going to save me so much running! Thanks Garry.
Spammingeddie924, it sounds like it will definitely save you some frustrations in the shop. It's been super handy for me too! Happy cutting!
This is really cool, I'm looking forward for my mk2 to come in. I'm a newbie to cnc...thanks again for your time on the video.
Roblehmann, you are so welcome my friend. Congrats on getting your Longmill!
It’s pretty cool I have a few different types of CNC machines and running off your phone to jog and setting up your machine means never losing your remote again.
kepa8991, glad you like this one brother! It sure is an amazing job.
Your teaching technique makes learning fun and easy. Excellent video!
RogerTom-kt9nt, so glad to hear that brother! Keep working hard and learning everything you can.
She does such a great job. My twins love the m&m’s ☺️
raytristani, I couldn't agree more brother!
OMG. This is historic!!! Thanks for sharing.
scoyyw272006, glad to hear this one helped you brother!
I'm super excited I just bought a Tab even though I'm a iPad user
Cunninghamguitarz9828, right on brother! I'm looking forward to you getting it in hand!
I am very incurrage now to buy my MK2 . and get started !
LouisDeschamps, I am excited for you brother! I was wondering if you could do me a favor, if you can use my link when you buy your longmill. It gives me a little pocket change. Thanks! Here's the link, if you decide to use it: sienci.com/product/longmill-mk2/?ref=IDCWOODCRAFT
Garrett, I will for sure use your link as soon as I can figure out how to gather my money !

Can’t wait to get my cnc router and start trying out all of these features
I am excited for you brother! Welcome to the wonderful world of CNC.
I'm excited bout the remote capabilities of gsender
JohnFennell, glad to hear it brother! This is a game changer for sure.
This is pretty cool and convenient. Thanks for the video.
ronbernstein2889, You're welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed the video brother!
Thanks so much! This is just what I needed to help with machine setup. I appreciate all of your videos!
Gizmillerron, you are so welcome my friend.
The correct "nerd" term is RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol). Can't wait to try it.
Wade, thanks brother I knew there must be a proper "nerd" term for this LOL
I always like you videos. This is really going to make setups easier.
ralphtate9159, so glad you liked this one brother!
This is very cool ...
excited to explore the possibilities !!!
wreckdiver3able, I'm looking forward to you giving it a try and seeing what you think brother!
Great video! I set this up on my iPhone and iPad. Couldn't get to the settings icon on the iPhone, even in landscap, but not a big deal. Want it mainly for jogging. By the way, nice tan!
user-qx4yb9kn6h, thanks brother! I'm glad you were able to get it set up and working for you smoothly, happy cncing!
Garrett, of course you can just use remote desktop software to control any CNC control software, not just gsender. I have been doing this ever since having the CNC. The advantage is you are interacting with the actual software and not running a second instance. I am not sure of the disadvantages. This also works for anyone who does not want to update to 1.2.# just yet.
Nevsmith2750, absolutely! I couldn't agree more brother, I only see positives right now and haven't noticed any downsides really as of yet! Happy cutting!
Thanks! U r the best 👍
ADhocSport, no problem brother I am happy to help.
Awesome great info keep it up. Thanks to both of you! (Longmill and IDC)
PaulManthei, you are so welcome brother.
I have had my mill for a couple of years and just now found this ability. I also bought a game controller but having trouble getting it to work.
kdill7021, glad to hear that this is going to really help you brother! Happy CNCing.
Basically it works just like Mainsail, Fluid or Octoprint while using a Rasberry Pi as your computer at the machine.
jdmeadows7174, exactly! Spot on brother!
I think this is the shishneck. It will help me from moving around a lot. That’s stressful, specially when I’m new at this🎉
sfg18b, it's definitely a great feature brother. I'm looking forward to you giving it a shot!
thank you ....G sender works great
hadenoughok, you are so welcome brother!
by using tailscale you can set gsender from any remote locations or any point outside your lan or local network scope! cheers.
gdewey1, tailscale is an awesome tool!
Thanks, Garrett. Great tutorial.
Gerardcochrane, you are so welcome my friend.
Great video thanks
@garyregis3957, you are so welcome my friend.
so easy to do and makes like easier when working with CNC
Meredith, exactly! I'm glad it was easy to get set up my friend. Happy cutting!
This is great news !
Louis Deschamps, glad you like this one brother.
Very cool, my only issue is I mis place my phone all the time :). I would suggest buying a $30 trac phone, or perhaps an older phone you might have around just so you don't have to have your phone on you.
These are all very fair points my friend! That seems like it may be a good alternative in your shop! Happy cncing!
Thanks for the explanation, great program.😃👍
Willy, you're so welcome brother! Glad you enjoyed it!
great info! wonderful concept.... It just takes SOOO long to get to the meat of the video. I was getting slightly frustrated waiting for the "how to" part of the video. If people don't know how to "open a browser" I'm surprised they are watching the video.. Repetition of info was starting to get to me. Other than that Thank you!
CaptainKokomoGaming, thanks brother! I appreciate you sharing your perspective, all fair points! Happy cncing!
Got it set up, and this is so f@#$%^ing cool !!! I love it! Thanks for sharing.
Ozguzzi, right on brother I'm glad you got it set up, it's awesome! Happy cutting!
The remote is a great feature and woks well. My one suggestion for the video is that you need to stop using the word "Internet" when referig to this. You are NOT using the internet. You are using your "Local" network and not the internet. You could disconnect your internet router and this lwill still work. However, the video was great and thanks for sharing this information.
Bryan, fair point brother! Thanks for sharing this with me!
That's cool. I'll be setting that up tomorrow! I just have one question. I do my design work in the house and store it on the cloud where I pick it up on my old shop computer to run gsender. Can I load those files from the cloud onto my phone and run the job ? That would be handy
user-xc9tw3ug5i, that might work brother! Check in with the folks at Sienci first to double check. Here is a link: sienci.com/contact-us/
This looks great;however, the only problem for me is other than the RPi version there is no Linux version (i run Ubuntu on my small laptop i use for controlling my cnc)
Michael, very fair point brother. You could always send them over some feedback you never know, they make follow through with a Linux version in the future!
Question I don’t have Internet access in my shop do you know if there are any plans to allow this setup of having my phone/iPad communicate just via Bluetooth?
Bob, I'm not too sure on this one brother. You may want to reach out to them directly, they should have a little better insight on this one!
I don't believe this setup needs internet to work. It seems to run local so if you have an old router to spare, you could create a local wifi network to run this on in you shop. It might even be possible to turn ypur shop pc into an access point and log in onto that with your phone.
All I can say is wow
Bill, thanks brother!
Great New Feature!
Richard, it's awesome I'm looking forward to you giving it a try!
Hi Mr. Garret, Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I got a new TTC 450 and, before I order the software, I would like to know
if V-carve desktop is the wright software.. Thank you for your help.
luisoquendo4264, Vcarve will be a great software for your machine brother!
Thank you Garrett for all the great tutorials as they as so helpful. I’m thinking of buying an Altmill and I never used Gsender. I’d like to ask can you tell me if Gsender will run a ToolSetter? Same way as the Masso controller would or Carbide Motion. Thank you in advance
Miter5TrimCarpentry, You're welcome! I'm glad you find the tutorials helpful. Gsender can work with a ToolSetter, but the exact setup process may vary compared to Masso or Carbide Motion. It's best to refer to the user manual or contact the manufacturer for specific instructions.
@@IDCWoodcraft Thank you once again Garrett for the info. We just ordered our Altmill from Seinci Labs and I asked their tech team about a Tool Setter and they also said it can be set up, however, given their are not selling their own, they won’t recommend one to buy. Can you recommend a Tool Setter that we should consider?
I would imagine that the tool setter has to be compatible with new SLB ports?
This looks great! But, I’m still wrestling with getting my machine to zero. I’m trying to zero in the Z direction but something’s wrong. It worked once, but I had Grbl loaded instead of GbrlHAL. The folks at Sienci helped me get that fixed, but the Zero function returns a screen indicating that the plate is in contact with the bit, only it isn’t in contact. No damage to the wire, it’s brand new. I can even unplug the entire zero wires from the long board and it still gives me a false green dot. I have a work order in with Sience and we are going back and forth on what could be the problem. I even tried to get rid of gsender off my computer and re-load it, but I’m still stuck. I am running a Levono Yoga computer with Windows NT 10.0; Win 64; x 64, Longmill Mk 2.5 48X 30, Vcarve Pro 12.0, and G-sender 1.4.9. Just putting this out the Incase anyone else has run into something similar and got it yo work.
andrewwood6285, It sounds like you're having quite a challenging time with the Z zeroing process! It's great that you've been in touch with Sienci and are working through it together. Sometimes, issues like these can stem from software settings or configuration mismatches, so it’s a good idea to double-check those. Keep experimenting and hopefully, you'll figure it out soon. Good luck!
I am having difficulty in creating an emoji for my I Phone that will allow me to connect to g Sender with my I phone. Any Suggestions?
Thank you
Bill, I'm not too sure on this one brother. I recommend reaching out to Sienci directly and they should be able to lead you in the right direction. Here's the link to their contact page: sienci.com/contact-us/?ref=IDCWOODCRAFT
If your running a file from a remote machine does it need to stay connected for the entire run ?
Great question. With g sender, no because it is technically running from the computer
Greetings from Malta (Europe).
Thank you for such an informative video.
When using the tablet or mobile phone, would you be able to access/load the toolpath files (.nc files) to gSender from a cloud service, such as Microsoft OneDrive? Meanwhile I'm waiting for my new machine...
Thanks again.
All the best to you and your loved ones for the festive season.
Robert, great question brother! I'm not too sure on this. I'd recommend reaching out to Sienci directly, they should be able to give you a little better insight than I can on this one!
In cnc, it would be good if you used the metric system..it is easy and much more accurate
Josiosarkanj9065, very fair point brother!
This would be fantastic if I can set this up for my CNC not a longmill, I'm in the UK so have a workbee
DerekGranger, you might be able to still use it brother! Not 100% sure but your workbee might be compatible with gSender. Try it out.
This looks good.
TheKirk48, it's definitely a nice feature brother!
Saving me money - I was ready to buy a joystick
Dave, I'm glad to help save you some change brother!
Don’t have my mk2 yet, but this is cool
sammcalhany1446, right on brother. Glad to hear it.
Will gsender work on 1F journeymen x50
Mike, I'm not entirely sure for Onefinity. You may want to reach out to them just to verify!
Now, I’m running windows on my labtop. Can I run remotely with Apple tablet
sfg18b, I believe you should be able to. Give it a shot!
I am temped to buy the MK2 30`''x30'', I am looking at what I need to determine what it will cost me !
LouisDesChamps, reach out to Sienci brother! Here is a link: sienci.com/product/longmill-mk2/?ref=IDCWOODCRAFT
This is sweet!!!
Andy, thanks brother I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I m exited
Bart_Depestele, glad to hear it brother! It is a great feature.
Can you change the incremental values to jog the router around
Bill, yes you should be able to do this!
This will be so cool 😎
Josephennis7008, isn't it awesome?!
This is really cool
ronnuckolls857, glad you like this one brother! Happy CNCing.
Genmitsu has a new phone App and wireless module for some of their models works with USG. Hope it works with Gsender???
robindickinson1815, That sounds exciting! Genmitsu's new app and wireless module could really enhance the user experience. As for Gsender, it’s best to check the compatibility directly from the Genmitsu site or user documentation to be sure. Enjoy your CNC adventures!
just so you know you can do this with any control board with the esp32 chip. and u can put fluidNC on it
Sarcastrophe, good call brother. Very good point!
From my research, Gsender seems to be proprietary to Sienci labs CNC controller, it will not work on my production set up running Mach 4
It works for the grbl firmware which is used by a wide variety of CNC routers on the market like Shapeoko, OpenBuilds, XCarve, and many more - not just Sienci Labs machines. Mach 4 is actually a proprietary firmware so it's not very compatible with other software options
Eric, the previous reply is spot on! Gsender isn't only designed for Sienci, although they do use it!
this is great
Rickt-r6v, I'm glad you think so! Thanks for watching!
Thanks, need to watch again, can be a bit slow on all the steps!!!!!!!!
Anthony, I get what you mean brother. It's here for you as many times as needed! Happy cutting!
Can this be setup with any version of Gsender? i still use 1.0.6 because newer versions were not working well for me .
asda5303, I would recommend updating to the latest version brother! That way you know what works best and you have the latest updates.
Thats awesome!
user-sb5ow4bk1l, glad to hear you liked this one brother! Happy CNCing.
I got it, I love it
sfg18b, right on brother! Thanks for letting me know!
If you change your mind and want to
un remote, can you?
Bill, yes you should be able to do this!
yes
George, thanks for watching brother!
good stuff
Chad-mz7sj, glad to hear it brother!
will it work if you are on trial vergine of vetric ?
Louis Deschamps, this is a different software. This software is called gSender to control your CNC.
The BIG issue with this is you have to start both of them up before you start running the job.
If you start the job running on the main computer and once it is cutting a gcode you go and try to connect then with with a phone or tablet it halts the machine and resets it the job back to the starting point in the code.
You just cannot connect another device once the main computer starts cutting.
This is the major drawback I have come across with this thus far.
That a great point. The good thing is it's a little closer to total remote. I guess we have to start somewhere
Will this work on a Shapeoko 3??
DADT12, not 100% sure about that brother! Reach out to Shapeoko, they will have a better answer.
Can you go back to the un shared mode
If you are asking if you can turn off the remote option then reverse the process used to turn it on and toggle it off. Hope that helps.
Bill, I agree with EvoBora72 on this one! Thanks brother!
I'm running a Shapeoko, which should be fine, I am having trouble loading Vcarve files into Gsender though, anyone else using Vcarve and Gsender.
John, sure thing brother. I use Vcarve and gsender it shouldn't be giving you issues. If you're still having troubles I recommend reaching out to Shapeoko they should be able to help you if you're having connection issues.
😂😂😂 Fantastic
Miguel, thanks brother!
I am using gender for the last year and it works fine since ugs is sometimes not very reliable I see a problem with the version to use the phone or tablet as control there are many ways do control the laptop or PC remotely. There are risks to walk away from the cnc router as if it's running I never do that there are enough things to do in the workshop a router is a very powerful tool it can get stuck on a piece because of incorrect feed speed and can take the piece and can create a dangerous situation including fire etc.
kdpohl, I couldn't agree more brother. I've had better success using gsender in terms of reliability too. I also agree with you on the dangers on leaving the shop during a cut. It's best just to stay put! Happy cutting my friend!
Great! So now I won't have to buy a stupid game controller.😄
ozguzzi, exactly! You can just use your phone instead!
I like your videos but.... So many things I would like to correct here.. Intranet not Internet... NOT a secure connection... there is a way to control gSENDER via the internet but likely will require you to do port forwarding on your network router. Here is a fun one.... If you connect to a running session already in progress it will screw up your project. You could resume it but you better know what line you were one otherwise youll have to guess and... well.. it wont be perfect. Also... PLEASE level your flag sign above your CNC... my OCD is OCdone now. LOL Sorry
PatonMacD, Thanks for pointing out those details! I'll make sure to take your feedback into consideration for future videos. And I'll definitely work on leveling the flag sign above the CNC for a neater look!
Happy Woodworking!
LOL.. no problem. Just wanted to help! I do wish they would fix the remote session though. I would like to be able to “tune in” to a session in progress without disturbing it. Maybe headless mode?
