Announcer was correct about needing to be in space. His diary reveals that parts of him repel Earth’s gravity, and that he has a suppressor to deal with that. However, because of budget cuts, he couldn’t afford to maintain the suppressor, forcing him (and the contestants) into space.

When you're finished with BFDI you should watch season 2 which is called BFDIA (aka Battle for Dream Island again) it's still ongoing meaning that you might be able to vote at some point.
