Not a horse, it was a moose.
I could be wrong, but sounded Finnish to me.
@@zzpazi The way the moose shouted "perkele!" was a dead giveaway.
It was Harri Rovanpäre( WC Kalle Rovanpäres father) in the Swedish rally early 90ths
Thought I heard "ui vitt" (oh fuc), he neved did finish the word tho, probably too busy steering.
@@magnusjohanson4466 Are you quite sure it was Harri R? I think it was another Finn whose name I almost have on my tongue, but have there been two similar occasions with mooses (in the history)?
The rally at night reminds me of growing up driving wild in the Appalachian Mountains. Lots of wooded and basically deserted back roads at night where we drove like maniacs in cars, trucks, atv’s, dirt bikes, etc. Even mixed terrain with dirt, asphalt, and gravel, and snow. I’ve always thought that the Appalachian region would benefit from a proper rally event. There are miles of old mining roads, logging roads, and dynamic asphalt areas. Not to mention the network of ORV trails.
That horse was wearing a moose suit, 😂
That forest road at night, nah! I'm gonna look for the long way 'round!
3:16 Rally del Rubinetto, the tightest point of the italian rally championship
Night time stages are just insane. I remember seeing some onboard footage of Colin McRae driving at night in the fog, the visibility was so bad that he switched the headlights off and drove the rest of the stage just on Nicky Grist's pace notes alone!!! I've been trying for years to find the footage again but alas to no avail.
If you tell me any other driver did I would tell you it's a complete lie but the moment you said Colin McRae I know it's possible, haven't seen that footage but surely he did something like that
British Road Rallying is carried out at overnight from around midnight until dawn on a Sunday morning. It is considered much safer to compete at this time as there is less, if any, traffic on the lanes and perversely you can see more from other cars with their headlights. Also, I find that competing behind headlights and spotlights focuses your vision on the road and you are not taking in extra superfluous information as you do in daylight. A good navigator will be calling the bends and I find I am quicker then than driving the same road in daylight.
On one event that I was concerned with the time car came into the control that I was at and I asked how the event was going given that it was a clear dry night rather than the Rally's reputation for cold, damp and foggy. I was told that the timing crew on the previous section had had to screw the watches to 80mph average and even then the top crews were cleaning it! And that is on even twistier roads than shown here.
Back in the 70's and 80's British Road Rallying fell into two camps - navigational plot and bash and pre-plot, the latter being essentially road racing. Unfortunately, like Group B Pre-plot road rallying was getting out of hand and the authorities decided to curb the speeds in a very draconian way. One of the best road rally drivers was Gwndaff Evans, father of Elfin, who went on to international acclaim in stage rallying. Road Rallying was the learning ground for many of the very best international navigators, for which Britain has an enviable reputation.
Watch Walter Röhrl in Arganil. 😉
Most Rallye drivers have great memory, and they wouldn't do that on a Stage they don't know. I have seen one (i don't remember who it was) in the 90's in a Seat WRC who drove the majority of a stage with his hood covering the windscreen. He didn't see a thing and neither did the codriver. Things like that occasionally happened in Rallye trhoughout it's history, and most drivers were able to not loose "all the time in the world". The only one who won a stage in such circumstances (not seeing anything) was Walter Röhl in Arganil. (Diference being everyone couldn't see shit in this stage so conditions were equal to everyone ;-) )
In the thick fog of the 44km night special stage at Arganil he was 4 *minutes* and 50 *seconds* faster then his teammate and fellow driving genius Marku Alen!
@@nirfz Current stage rally crews practice to create pace notes and as Rohrl said, he practiced the Arganil stage more than his contemporaries and this was to make the pace notes as accurate as possible. On the event his navigator would be calling those notes mostly blind i.e. he wasn't looking at the road, relying on the feel of the car to confirm where he was in the pace notes along with possibly the Halda. You will note that navigators sit much lower than the driver so that visibility forward is compromised in any case. Stages are often so long that to remember all the bends and features is basically impossible. The ability of the navigators to give accurate pace notes is what makes them so vital a member of the car crew..Rohrl's time on Arganil was a testament to his faith in the notes.
Having competed in Road Rallies the worst thing is knowing, or think that you know the route, you will be slower. Trusting in your navigator's calling of the bends will ultimately be quicker.
Having the hood obscure your vision is clearly a problem but driving in fog is similar and the crew can do the route blind, driving by feel. Our club used to run the Falls Road Rally in November and it was plagued most years with fog and that didn't affect the times as much as you think. On a Road Rally, practice is not allowed and marked maps will disqualify you so the only source of instructions are 1:50000 Ordnance Survey maps.
Excited for the Swedish Rally again this year! 5 feet of snow banks, 3-4 hours of sunlight other than that it's pitch black and these drivers go almost 200 km/h (120 and change mp/h) through the fastest parts of the stages. Couldn't recommend watching it enough
6:20 you can see in the lower right corner that the guy was blasting 175kmh or 108mph trough that forest, crazyy
1:49 no horse, looks more like an Elk to me. Musta been in Sweden, Norway or maybe Denmark ! 🙂
3:52 definately Italy !
During the 80's (group B time) the first "WRC" event in the calender included a night stage crossing a mountain in the frenche alps. Often times it had snow, in some corners black ice, numerous people with old cameras and flashes while taking pictures, and the spectators grilling sausages and steaks next to the road making a lot of smoke.... Sometimes they even threw snowballs at the road or at the cars "to increase the challenge" (having snow on formerly dry parts of the stage)
The stage had the nickname "night of the long knives". (it often thinned out the field)
2:40 that one guy who ran the wrong way🤣
Happy New Year! It is 9am in Finland already
HAPPY NEW YEAR! FROM ENGLAND 🏴
We used to marshall local club rallies at night through country lanes. Being we had to get to 3 marshalling points each night we were going hell for leather to got to the next point, we never had a smash in the stages, but coming home one morning we hit a diesel spill and lost the car on a bend only doing around 30mph,spin, crash, bash, into a light pole - Ironic we'd been belting around all night and wipped out driving home.
Happy new year, so nice of you to start it of with rally.
The roads are normally close failure by organiser's
Yes, it happened in Japan 2022 too, the last rally of WRC, after that accident FIA open an investigation
Night rally freaks me out too. takes me back to collin McRae rally game i used to play. doable but so many tries.
03:15 welcome to Italy (yes we have a lot of narrow little town LOL)
Happy New Year! Ian
Love these clips, just shows you have to be just a little crazy to rally...
G'day Ian, happy new year mate, hope 2023 is best for you and your family, loved this video, cheers mate Neil 🤠.
Happy new year..great video's and keep it going..greetz from the netherlands
the night runs in forest are one of the best with the one between two fields on uneven roads night time too, incredible moments !
From a worldwide community, Happy New year, best wishes to you and yours
Happy New Year Ian
Left some links in Mail replay to Sydney Fireworks 😊
I'm 60 still going 2 rally events. Miss the group b do. Awesome video like always. Greetings from the Italy and Belgium 🇮🇹🎄🇧🇪
The night fast section, waou ! The driver is between 150 and 180 km/h the most part of the drive. I'm so affraid of a big animal jumping on the road, coliding the car. It's mindblowing !!! Seems like warp speed with the millenium falcon ! AWESOME.
Happy new year to you and your family hope this year will be amazing for all of us !!!
0:50 translation from Czech: "Are you f*cking kidding me?"
lol
I remember WRC Rally with the cow on the road cow didn’t make it.
4:30 Yeah harnesses, the bucket seat, and most of all the Rollcage which is litteraly unbreakable at those speeds
Happy new year from Uruguay! Feliz año nuevo!
Antti kalhola had made some great videos on racing, drivers.. rally , F1 etc...
2:20
That's why modern rallies have "ban zones" where spectators aren't allowed to be. So something like that happens a lot less.
Happy New Year dude
1:00
That's during a timed stage.
Timed stages are closed off.
Either someone went around the barriers and went unnoticed by the stewards or it's a resident who forgot/didn't care that there was a rally going on and drove out of his driveway without being cleared.
Rally cars do drive in public traffic between stages, but they'd be at a much calmer pace.
Happy new year for you, your family, friends and all the YT-watchers.
1:48 a Nordic moose
I used to compete on a national level using a highly modified Lada riva 2105 I had the bad luck to put that car end over end in the woods ( the structural additions of the class i was running in 6 point harnesses and the safety sevices roll cage kept us safe both me and my navigator walked away shaken / not stirred with no major broken bones
This guy has many Fiat 126 raid rally videos, are fun to watch
Michael Schumacher is what Pele was to soccer but the guys driving rally are from another world.
That night time stage is near my home town Zlín which is a part of a famous Rally 2 race
Happy new Year! IW!, I would love to see your reaction on Rally video games 🎮 🕹
Night stages are off the hook. Especially in the snow..
Back in the days they used to drive daily in The dark in 1000 Lakes Rally (Rally Finland WRC)
Happy new year!!!!
Welcome to finland, youngiest chambion.
3:13 looks like catalunya, spain, or corsica. I swear in south of france there's tons of tiny streets like that it's crasy, sometimes a car doesn't even fit.
still gotta recommend ken block rally vids or his gymkhana vids with hoonigan. he works with subaru through ford as his sponsors back then.
Some years ago I was chief marshal on a local road rally in UK. On one section one of the leading Escorts dropped a wheel onto the wet grass verge that pulled him fully onto it and he careered on and through a 18" thick solid brick buttress to a barn. The buttress had a cartoon like missing profile of the car, such was the impact at a likely 90+mph speed. The front headlight was buried behind the dashboard and the whole suspension leg was in the driver's footwell. The driver only sustained a broken ankle and the navigator walked away, shaken but not stirred. Just goes to show the strength of a rally car and bearing in mind that the car was a road rally car that was technically only competing on a navigational event and was prepared to a lesser standard than a stage rally car as in these video clips.
Imagine that night one in a snow storm. Downright hypnotic.
Then suddenly there's bigfoot. heh heh ;p
2:53 that’s Travis on pikes with the air slayer, I think it’s called that anyhooo 💁♂️
3:47 welcome to italy and its narrow streets🤣
The traffic must be a local as the rallystages are closed of for other traffic. And the animal was Rudolf the rednosed reindeer.
That Subi was pikes peak..it was ken block in his hoonigan bus. R.I.P.
Dude, you have to watch the Richard Burns in the fog in Wales video
The Swedish Rally isn't the only winter rally, but winter rally footage is likely to be from the Swedish winter rally. And Sweden has some 100-400 000 moose, so its likely that it was a moose, not a horse.
I saw it was a moose, even without stopping the video, it had very long legs and quite short stompy neck in comparison to the average horse. And in counties, where those winter rallys are being organised (Sweden, Finland), mooses are running along the country roads every day, but especially in the winter (it's less exhaustive for them, instead walking through the forest).
Since you like doing reactions and cars. I recommend "welt documentary" they also have a couple videos about cars and how they are produced (all 1h long, german made but in english)
5:47 Did he hit a bird or what ?
Happy new year Ian, to you, all your family and the youtube community best wishes :)
The hood swung open
Hello, congratulations for the channel. I go through the channel once in a while and I have a lot of fun with your videos. I recommend you watch the videos of the renault espace f1. They are not many but you will enjoy them. This van was sold in Europe. And if you want to see good trial, I recommend you watch videos of tony bou and the indoor trial championship. There go the best. Happy new year and all the best.
2:17 Poland
I think that was a moose in the snow
Sack the navigators!! 😱😨😳🥸😡 Lucky no kangaroos! 😂
If you are wondering why the streets are so narrow and makes no sense at 3:20 ... Keep in mind, that city was built long before cars or any sort of logistical thinking was a thing. You would walk those streets and maybe at some point pull a wagon behind a horse to transport something.
1:00 As far I know, there shouldn't be any traffic when there is a rally going on the road, for many obvious reasons.
You can probably see more at night with those million lux lights than you can on a drizzly day stage in Wales.
3:13 Level 1 Driver
3:25 Level 15 Driver
3:36 LEVEL 100 DRIVER
@2:51 that was Travis Pastrana driving, set a record if I recall corectly
3:40 you can hear italian. they know how to drive in town. honestly, if you live in old city center this is your daoly commute.
G'day Ian. Happy new year to you and your family. Check out Craig Breen, helmet cam. Metro 6R4.
rip ken
I didn't know you'd taken an interest on footage of Finnish people driving to work
Samir!! you're breaking the car
In another subject: check out the Dakar rally….. the Audi is probably the most radical car !!
these guys definately hang lower than i do! lol.
At 2:50 it is Mount Washington and travis pastrana in the hoonigan/Vermont sportscar Subaru hillclimb acr another video you should look into his record breaking run
2:47 looks very much like west coast Wales. driven lots roads like this loads fun
1:49 Moose alert🤣🤣🤣⚠️
R.I.P SAM FENECH and KEN BLOCK .
The worst point to get hit in a rally car are the doors
yep 2:21 is evidence that a hoodie is a sure way to almost get killed.
At 1:46 im quite sure it's an elk (a moose) and the place might be sweden.
I suggest top 10 rally crash of 2022 on chopitto rally channel .
They may make a full best of 2022 rally crash soon
I prefer the night rallying, did you notice the 180kmh speeds in the lower right corner.
Well, I prefer night rallying until there is a missed call, on one we missed a kick at 180kmh, slid left to right for a few hundred metres and caught it enough to slam the brakes and slide up the centre of the track. The other time was not so lucky, come down the hill at 190kmh and as the lights lit up everything as we rose out of the dip there was a line of trees on a 90deg corner. We probably hit the trees at around 120kmh and completely tore the side of the car out, the front wheel crumpled the whole drivers front corner around my feet, luckily the floor crumpled up and back rather than concertinaing completely over the top of my feet.
Even after that, I would still rather go flat out at night. lol
Holeyyyyyyy Shit.... Night time rally driving I cannot watch! Ended early!
D
Can you do a video on the Tatra 603? 60's car with an aircooled v8, very cool!
6:26... that dude was going 110MPH at night.... in a forest...
Ayrton Senna said he always thought the rally drivers are the best drivers in the World
Don’t know if you can get it on u-tube but you should try and find the RAC rally of the UK in the 80s it was bonkers but brilliant
Stages are closed there shoudn't be traffic. And that was moose
You should check out rally Finnland it's the one Walter Röhrl sat out after he became WC because he said it's to much
Rally cars don't seem to have airbags. Makes sense, otherwise they would be triggered while driving
This is one of the best night onboards I've ever seen: Robert Kubica at Janner Rallye 2014:
ruclips.net/video/HwyRS_6Uqn0/видео.html
Happy New Year!
I suggested it to him the other day, but poor IWrock barely made through 1 minute of proper nighttime rally onboard with serious anxiety attack. With all the schenanigans Kubica and Szczepaniak had on that stage... i don't know he'll ever be able to wach it whole to the end... he'll be traumatized.
You should be watching the Dakar rally and reacting to it everyday 😇
@IWrocker
check out BRUTUS from Sinsheim or the daraq hill climb
REQUEST: Please react to a video called "Martin Kdér - Radek Sladkovský - Škoda 130 LR (+ crash)". It's not a massive crash but there's a twist that results in probably the most spectacular crash footage ever recorded in rally.
Hi,got a recommendation for you look up Andy Burton watch clips on his home built peugeot 306 v6 cosworth pure sound hear in UK he also built a alfa ferrari back in 80s as well the msa body decided to ban these typ of cars in 2011.
If you think that forrest drive was tough, you should watch something about Walter Röhrl and the legendary night of Arganil! 😉
That was in Canada so it was a moose 👍🤠
Can you try it sometime? With Daniella beside you 700 feet 60° left 1300 feet 45° right.
If you like Dakar it starts in January 1st. It's in Saudi arabia.
Plz watch Oh God, Ari Vatanens big moment in the Opel manta
WANNA SEE A GOOD ONE HARRI VATANEN IN ISLE OF MAN.
2:58 I think thats Mt Washington and not pikes peak
