Great find, but engineers typically don't do things on accident or without very good reason.
HatArmor H usually to meet emissions and fuel standards...
Genesis is a beautiful car
I took out the air flap and replaced the magnets with smaller ones. Car breathes easier but still closes when it needs to
The air is restricted at low rpm to INCREASE AIR VELOCITY. The flap opens at 4k+ rpm to INCREASE AIR VOLUME. By opening at low rpm your actually reducing low end engine response and torque. Low engine speeds need air velocity. High rpm naturally increases vacuum\velocity volume is then needed.
That may be the theory behind the flapper door, but my first-hand experience disproves it. I don't know what it's like in the 5.0, but since I removed the flapper door on the single air intake in my 3.8/AWD early this week I have three or four times now started up from a stop the same way I always have, but had the car jump forward, making me say, "whoa!" out loud. I assure you that never once happened before I removed the flapper door.
@@Squirrel_D I have the same engine, I actually have mine apart doing a valve adjustment. On the intake manifold they're actuated flaps to restrict air at low rpm also. As I said air is restricted to increase low end engine response. I think the car is mapped to "take it easy" at take off to preserve the transmission. The power is there but the ecm doesn't let the shock through the drive train.
In my 2012 5.0 I just put some electrical tape over the magnate latch to decrease the magnetic pull and allow for the flap to open with a little more ease.
Oh nice, so you 5.0's have them as well! Good to know, thanks for the tip!
Let’s go I just got a 2015 genesis sedan clean ass hell
Do you still have it?
If better air flow to your engine it means you can reach the desired RPM faster for less effort and less use of gas. There is another function for that intake flap which is hydro protection. Simple, if water goes into to your engine then your engine could be dead.
The first part of your comment makes no sense lol.
Without having ECU remapped, the car will still take in the Air/fuel from set on stock tune.
@@titanfilmworks3159 Actually, his first point is correct. The easier for engine to breathe the faster it gets to maximum power, which means you wll have a slight increase in initial torque/response. Power might still be the same because the engine governor limits the rpm. But it will be in theory like having a small turbo which gives you earlier torque. The second part is very unlikely. Water in your electrical systems kills your engine but water vaporized by the filter going into air intake doesn’t kill the engine. Water vapor actually adds power to the engine, although constant water intake might affect lifespan of filter and engine oil.
@@michaelmonte88 you are correct but remember your intake has what you call Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor which when it detects a lot of air/oxygen going in it tells the computer to pump more fuel too to balance the ratio thus resulting in power increase and lower mpg.
The 2017 5.0L Genesis has two air filters, and does not employ the flaps as shown in your video.
So the entire video was just about adding a damn K&N filter? 🤔 You could’ve saved 4 minutes and said that in the first 30 seconds
Pull the damn magnet out from the flapper door. Using a really small screwdriver, you can remove the plastic cover which holds the magnet in place. Then snap the plastic cover back in place. Better throttle response, maybe -1MPG. Did this to my 15 Genesis 3.8
Don't use K&N filters they dont increase HP, they can make your check engine light turn on. Only factory engine air filters in a luxury car.
Xtalgic tested on his Genesis with the flap open and with it closed. There was no performance increase. Not on speed, not on horsepower.
You can remove all the plastic you want. If the ECU air/fuel ratio isn't remapped, this will make unnoticeable differences.
i'm missing something! He didn't say anything other than letting us know that there was an air inlet under that breather!!!!
So what do you with the flap? Remove it? Prop it up? WTF?
I don't really see what your point was
DemNawf Lol
so what exactly is the tip.. remove the flap or keep it open? you didn't really say what your tip was..
QuestForTruth I’m guessing that’s what he did. On my ‘11 4.6 there is one screw holding the trap door section in place.
I hate cleaning and re-oil the k&n filter. Anyone use the dry version? Same performance? Or use regular OEM filter and change more often. Very useful video Patrick! Looking forward to more.
Wait, they do have a dry version? I'll have to check that out!
Sorry I watched your video but didn't didn't quite understand what you should do with the flap. Do you take it off completely?
BH V8 has the airbox flap but the DH V8 does not.
Damn, of course it would have that! Thanks for the info!
I removed the flap on my ‘11 4.6 (BH). It also has a foam secondary filter above the regular air filter and I removed that along with the resonator. Have drop in K&N...
I have a 2012 Genesis 5.0 L R spec And I mean the power is incredible I love the way the car pulls but I do notice it does burn oil do you have that problem as well I have 77,000 miles on my car
I have a 3.8 and the oil I was running before I switched to mobil 1 burned as well. I ran Castrol GTX and WIX and those both burned. I have mobil 1 full synthetic and it hasn't burned any oil and the oil is still pretty clean compared to the 2 other brands stated with roughly 1500 miles on it so far. Hope this info helps you solve your oil problem
Run valvoline full synthetic it’s better than all other ones my opinion
I have same car 2015 3.8 .... I wouldn't switch it for 2016 series 528 I B m w
You pointed to something but did not say what to do?
Congrats on the Vlog and info. Now give me my gift!!! 😂 😂 😂
Could you help me with a pic of where the intake vacuum line is? I could not find it
Bro what's the point of your video?
Model k&n Filters?
Can someone make a video on how to change the Spark Plugs, or doing Basic Maintenance on the Genesis sedan 2015 - G80 2018
It's alot had to take off my wipers an all
This flap is too keep air velocity high at lower and higher rpm. If you defeat it, keep it open, your air velocity will be pretty slow at low rpm and will probably hurt your low end power. It opens automatically, so you're not getting "more" air above 4k rpm. Waste of time and probably worse outcome.
Is there a front wheel drive to the Genesis.
No but an all wheel drive
I just got a genesis
Appreciate you information
Well done
That's not on my 2015 5.0.
How about getting dirt into breather box....👽👽👽
for water ,try to entering the air box
Dope I'm doing this
I Love video i want a gift....lol
Check this out: ruclips.net/video/7eH7AxQX0HA/видео.html if you haven't already.
5.0 V8 is barely faster than 530i inline 4 cylinder. More power is pointless in this car
poy Mu and rspec genesis smokes a bmw 😂😂😂
Genesis weights 500LBS more than 5 series, have you felt how floaty Genesis is? how chunky and heavier it is? It corners very poorly with lots of body roll. What BMW are you talking about 128i?
Deandre Taylor Even in the Genesis "Sport" with 3.3T its slow as hell and gives no confidence. Look at those ugly glossy carbon fiber interor trim in 4500LBS car
poy Mu u smoking crack only bmw fucking with a Genesis is 550i and m5 I have a genesis I know I also have 2010 535i
poy Mu my genesis way faster u dumb af or never drove a genesis
Cougar kissing
Thank you for me in a Genesis owner
