Hey guys, I honestly forgot I was posting this. Explaining why I made this decision has honestly been hard to put into words for a video. I scheduled this far in advance so I could think about reshooting it for the 5th time. But I'm just going to keep it. This has been a hard mental decision for me because at the end of the day I still love Rocket League and I still love competing. However because of the lack of opportunity in the esport as things slow down, my stress after the last couple of seasons, and just the overall feeling that I need to start devoting more of my time to planning my future, this does feel like the right move. I'm still going to be grinding the game, looking to improve and just doing it with less pressure to provide results competitively. Thank you for all of you who have supported me at any point. Love you guys. See ya next video ❤
Hey man. I’ve been watching you for almost 10 years. Through the ups and downs, I’m sad to see you go but I’m also happy to see you stream. I wish you the best in life and I appreciate the joy and energy you brought to Rocket League.
wether or not you read this, i just wanna say that your future will be bright :) i wish to see lots of content with squish and aj, that being said, idk if its too much to ask butttt, can we expect to see 1’s content as well on the side?
Man I have vivid memories of when I played rl so much when free to play came out. Watching your videos as I grinded freeplay, or ranked was relaxing. Words cannot explain how much you mean to your fan base, a blessing from God. Jesus loves you Garret! And He will walk with you throughout your life!
@@FootballEric926 it doesnt make sense to enter your 20s and continue to climb an uphill battle when 13 year olds are cracked, snagging world champ titles. As men we need to make some real, consistent $ as we get older. Retiring from RL is gonna be necessary at some point. Retals will succeed anywhere he goes
As a G2 fan, especially in RL, my personal love for the eSport is dwindling. Watching all the guys that got me hard into the game retire, watching the team I love leave the game, I just don't have much passion at the moment. With that being said, there's no team I'd rather have pick up those G2 boys than NRG. NRG has always been a close second in my heart, and I'm so glad to see they're doing their best to keep their passion in the game alive. Just because G2 is gone from RLCS that doesn't mean my love is, those boys and NRG have all my support, as do you. I really hope psyonix and epic can find a way to revitalize the eSport to make it more interesting not just for fans but for players too. The lack of events in recent years, the lack of funding that is making teams leave the space. Makes it hard to stay engaged in the space and with a bunch of OG's retiring it's hard to get back into it without familiar faces for those who left. I really do believe RL can be something great and there's an amazing blueprint for it, just need the passion to make it happen. Much love good luck with everything in the future brother
You're the real Captain America. You, Justin and Squishy have been my inspiration ever since I discovered the eSport scene of Rocket League back in 2017-2018. I'm now 22 and I know for a fact I will never be able to compete professionally because of the fact that I started to take the game seriously way too late into my life. My age, the responsibilities, the overall stress of life, social life, etc... I can't dedicate time to this game that I love simply because I don't have the time anymore. Life caught up. It's so sad to see such a great game slowly come to an end. Despite people saying otherwise, the stats show the reality of the situation. Decreasing player count, orgs leaving the pro scene, pro players retiring, lack of innovative content within the game, etc. I'm just so glad and blessed that I was able to meet the three of you and the rest of the NRG crew and a bunch of pro players, casters and analysts back in 2022 Worlds and 2024 Worlds here in Texas. My dreams came true. Thanks for everything
ggs dude! always loved watching you compete and good luck with school and your future goals in life man! will be fun to see your content team giving it a go during the regionals!
hope all the best for you man, this is an exciting step. i remember seeing you, jacob, and fireburner live at RLCS Season 4, went just for you guys... i miss those days - but you have a lot to look forward to!
From someone who's been watching you and rooting for you for almost a decade, since Turtle and Moses times in season 1, you are forever an absolute legend in the scene. Literally you were thrust into a spotlight as an actual child and expected to behave like a seasoned professional as you quickly became the face of NRG RL. Somehow, you lived up to and exceeded every expectation and rose to the highest heights of pro RL. I will never forget your maturity, professionalism, positive attitude, and sheer love for the game. I remember when you had to let go of Jacob and some of the videos around that and discussions that came up. That - "firing" a friend and teammate from your team - is something that fucking experienced adults struggle mightily with in real life, and often make huge judgment errors when put in those situations. You? when you were 17, or whatever you were, and you somehow found a way to do it in the most respectful and reasoned way possible, I was astonished. I remember it well because I was 21/22 myself and just thinking, "man, the RL scene is lucky to have GarrettG in it." The fans, the scene as a whole, we've been blessed with the Big G for almost 10 years. Wishing you success in the next phase of life, and I have no doubt you will achieve what you set out to. "Regardless of what happens, I'm not going to stop until I lift that trophy."
It’s funny that he said that fans would blame him for losing because personally, in the last couple seasons, i would always expect garret to be the best player on the team and from my perspective he was. Most of the time it was him who was scoring the crazy shots and defending things the others couldn’t have. Always my favorite player. I hope retirement treats you well Garrett and good luck with whatever you decide to pursue in life! Thanks for giving me the inspiration to play this game and love it as much as I do:)
Man I grew up watching you, been a long time subscriber. Haven't played RL in some years but always enjoyed watching you even after quitting. With that said, you're still very young. Now is the perfect time for you to make this decision. Putting my biased opinion aside, b/c I love watching you play lol, I know you are making the correct decision. The journey you've been on, it's such a special journey that's extremely rare and hard to achieve. Embrace the path you've taken, because it truly is special and is a huge accomplishment. It really is great timing for you, to jump into a new path. You want to be able to have full control over your future, and because there are plenty of uncertainties with RL, this is a smart decision. I'll stay tuned in and will keep watching your content as long as you post it, but if you end up reading this, I wish you a bright future, which I'm sure you are destined for. Good luck man
I haven't watched RL in a few years but man I'm proud of you G. I remember cheering you on when you were in Vexx Gaming back in the day all the way up to season 7 (where i stopped watching) In my opinion you will always be one of the best Rocket League players of all time.
Hey Garrett, been an absolute pleasure watching you for years. I started watching around 2018, had just gone thru a bad breakup and got hooked on Rocket League. Needed something so bad at that time to distract me. Don't underestimate the impact you had, even if you don't always see it! Anyway, it was real easy to root for you and the NRG boys as my fav team, not just because you were good and fun to watch, but you were also just so positive and always displayed good sportsmanship. My wife (who I made watch A LOT) even said you were her favorite player! I was a D1 college athlete, so I totally get the stress of competing. You definitely have to make sacrifices along the way. I wish you the best for the future and you will always have a fan in me!
I started playing rocket league and then started watching videos on youtube and stumbled upon your videos and then that got me into RLCS and that was the season you, justin and squishy won the world title, so you could say i jumped on the NRG bandwagon but honestly it was more of i enjoyed your videos and the vibes you and squishy put off and the craziness of the justin era, it was sad seeing you guys struggle the next season and slowly drift away as teammates but at the same time you started posting videos on youtube more so it was bittersweet. thank you for all the content and congratulations on the retirement

You’ve always been much more than just a player though by being encouraging and entertaining. Thanks for everything you’ve done and put yourself through!
I honestly stopped playing this game because I just got so busy I didn’t have the time. When I saw this video I actually felt sad because I thought it wasn’t what you wanted. But hearing how you came to the decision completely changes things. You’ve always been my favorite pro because you’ve always approached the game like one. Congrats man. I’ll be looking out for the content.

Good to hear you feel good about the decision. I've been watching RL since like 2016, have been to a couple of LANs over the years, and always appreciated watching you play. But totally understand how stressful it is. Go be your best self. :)
CRL sounds perfect for you i feel. you can go to school and still scratch that competitive itch, maybe even get a scholarship? but what do I know lol. massive fan since u were teamed with moses and turtle haha. good luck with whatever you do next!
My favorite player and content creator. Out of all the people I watch for RL content, I always am excited most when you upload. ggs capt. Thank you for what you've done for this game.
I stopped paying attention to RL Esports when my first daughter was born two years ago but this video just popped up in my feed. Garrett incase you read this: You are one of the few true OGs in this game and will always be. You created some of the most memorable moments of Rocket Leagues Competitive history and you also won worlds, which you grinded so hard for. Anybody that cares for this game will always remember that. Its unfortunate that the competitive scene seems to still be heading in a direction where it is just not healthy for an individual anymore to focus solely on that, but it is what it is. You were there for the peak of the game man. I wish you all the best for your future!
You had an amazing career and are an amazing person Garrett. The ending of one chapter opens another, I am very glad you got to lift that trophy in the end :) Please do actually keep making content though and don't just dissappear like some other pro's did, because that would make me sad.
Not gonna lie, my heart sank when I saw the news of you retiring. I wanted to see you take one more worlds trophy. I felt this coming though with how the season played out. Good luck to you, Captain.
Its been honor to watch u get famous Garrett and watch the different stuff uve done within RL since joining RL Esports, truly an OG in RL. I feel like youre retiring in a good way which is so much good considering the current RL Esports stuff. Hope that life doesnt get worse for u after retirement, Best wishes to u Garrett. Enjoy Retirement. My honest thought before watching the video was hmm has epic done a bad job with RL Esports which caused u to retire, the answer is yes but u cannot put the entire blame on them, this explains how bad the RL Esports scene is rn with the lan's, prize money, placement and what not. Many ORG's want to leave and r going to leave in the future after seeing how to manage business. I mean G2 closing their RL Team was such a big shock, and much bad things r happening to RL in general.
What a career! Whether you want to make content or head into another direction, I'm certain you'll find your way. I was 25 when I started studying to become an engineer, it's never too late if you find something you're passionate about. Good luck!
The amount of respect and appreciation i have for you is unreal. Really going to miss you Garrett and i wish you the best in your life moving forward ❤
Sad that you won´t play for NRG anymore but I can understand the Decision and thank you for all the Memories. Been following you and NRG since the Beginning. Looking forward whats coming the Future. Best of Luck Goat
Honestly man, you are a rocket league legend. Your name won’t be forgotten. Enjoy your life man, no need for any stress. No need to wonder about the right decision, just look back and ENJOY what garretg did. Beautiful stuff man, keep it up❤

Not gonna lie, my heart sank when I saw the news of you retiring. I wanted to see you take one more worlds trophy. I felt this coming though with how the season played out. Good luck to you, Captain.
Thanks Garrett, happy I got to see you play in Dallas
Loved the retirement announcement vid. Great seeing Fireburner make a cameo, closest thing we'll get to him streaming again lol.

Been watching since the Jacob and fireburner days glad I was able to take a pic with you at Newark NJ worlds
Feels like so long ago now. Jacob and the giant foam hat topper are a great memory of this game
Sounds like a really sensible decision and I'm glad you're taking care of yourself. Looking forward to the next chapter!

5 years ago in December we witnessed one of the greatest LAN wins ever. Thank you Garrett.

What a career! Whether you want to make content or head into another direction, I'm certain you'll find your way. I was 25 when I started studying to become an engineer, it's never too late if you find something you're passionate about. Good luck!
