Thank you! Yours was one of the most easy to follow tutorials I've seen. So many suggestions from RUclips or with people who don't explain well or the videos they suggest are the same in the feed all the time. I was so happy I found your channel! Thank you 😊
My mom used Scotch tape pieces horizontally to hold the zipper down. Also one of us used 2 sided tape that washed out. Thanks for your tutorial. I haven't put in a zipper in so many years and I sure needed a refresher.
That is really a nice & neat way to put in a zipper. I’ve done a lapped zipper before and that turned out pretty neat. I’m not a happy camper right now. Monday our air conditioner quit working and we can’t get anyone to come fix it until Monday. I live here in Virginia so we’ve been up in 90’s with that humidity you wear as soon as you walk outside. Just able to do very little especially since no sleep last night due to heat.
I'm so sorry to hear it. Our heat here in Florida has been just plain oppressive. Makes you wonder how people did it before a/c, doesn't it? I hope you can have it fixed soon.
That's they way I've always put in a zipper, but I do all the sewing from the inside. It does make putting in a zipper so easy. Thanks for the tutorial.
Fantastic! I was always hoping you'd do some tutorials and you didn't disappoint. Thanks Jen, I hope this will be the start of more tutorials to come. Your technique looks easy and the finished results are good. Thank you!
It really is! I love the way you can see your stitching on each side, so you can correct it if you need to - still happens to me after all these years! ❤️
Thanks for this wonderful tutorial. My goal right now is to learn how to install professionally-looking installed zippers. I just learned how to sew an invisible zipper. I will save this tutorial for next time I need it.
Thanks Jen! My pattern collection size is a fraction of yours! My method is for the patterns I trace, I put them with the tissue patterns and instructions in a 8x10 white mailing envelope. I cut the original envelope and tape it to the front. I also cut a scrap from my make, attach to a slip of paper and drop it in too.
My Home Ec teacher taught to put the zipper in the same way except to leave the zipper closed and pivot again at the bottom and sew up the other side...it makes for a complete seam and no chance at a pucker when you sew down from the right side of the fabric. I have always sewed them in this way and never "seam" to have to redo them. Thanks for sharing.
😳OMG that was too easy! I’ve avoided zippers like the plague but, have wanted to keep practicing…so I bought a bag of zippers from Amazon 😆I’ve been trying to make little bags with. 😏I don’t think they’ve come out the way they should but, I’ll keep trying. But, I’m going to try your method on clothes 👏👏 thank you so much! 👍
Interesting. I haven’t put in a reg zipper in for 20 years. I use to be able to put 1 in with my eyes closed. A few months ago I was very proud of my invisible zipper but hated the dress. However, I WILL wear it!! I never put n a regular zipper sewing partially on the right side, but I like it and am anxious to try it. Loved your tutorial
This is also how I learned how to do this over 40 years ago. After you’ve put in one or two it goes very quickly. After not sewing for about 15 years, I put a zipper in on the first try! Thanks for going over this and you are a very good instructor.
I was SO hoping your tutorial wouldn’t be different from the way I’ve been applying zippers for years, you didn’t disappoint 🙌 I love working w/ zippers. Easy! Peasy! 👍
It has been many years since I put in a zipper but I know it was always a challenge. You make it look so easy!! I'm going to save your video to my video library. Thanks, Jen!
Thanks! It's Butterick 6185 from a thrifted linen-look fabric. I added side seam pockets. There's a review here: ruclips.net/video/kpJ0OjztqlQ/видео.html
Thank you Jen 🤗 I thought I know everything about sewing zippers, but I didn't know this little hack, to pivot and stitch to the other side. ☺love that
Thanks! I'm still always trying to remember how to do invisible zippers - I put one in last night and couldn't remember if I needed to sew the seam shut or not. Old lady brain - lol
Thank you...Love this way.. I haven't ever done it this way so this looks great.. next project will have a zipper installed this way.. AGAIN.. thank you
Great video! I self-taught myself how to sew on a zipper but I’ve always had an issue at the bottom. I’ll for sure be referencing this video from now now- thanks so much!
Great tutorial I've always sewn my zipper from the inside but I will try your way looks easier. Also this sounds silly but I never knew about using the seam ripper that way ! Duh ! Hahaha
One of my biggest pet peeves is seeing an invisible zipper sewn in wrong or a regular zipper sewn in like its invisible, and like you we learned to sew in a zipper this way. I remember learning to sew in my first invisible zipper.
I struggled and struggled with those until I finally learned that I could use a pintuck foot. I grew up in the days when you had to use the little plastic feet and change out the entire shank on your machine. I hated that so I never did them! Now it's way easier -

@@TodayinJensSewingRoom So excited about trying this on my next all-purpose zipper in a garment! ! I’m sure mine have driven you crazy! I didn’t know you weren’t supposed to be able to see it! 🤦🏻♀️ We newer, self-taught sewists just muddle through and hope for the best! 🤣 I’ve never been taught proper technique! I can do a mean invisible zip, though, that’s actually invisible! 💪🏼💗😘
Oh I did enjoy that and that certainly is a simple way to do it, I will definitely adopt that if not using an invisible one. Question though please , if a pattern asks for an overlap zip (where you end up having a flap over one side covering it, skirts mainly?) do you have a simple way to do that? Mine always end up ugly! 😆 Thanks so much for sharing your vast knowledge and you SHOULD be a sewing teacher! 🤗
LOL I am SO not a sewing teacher! I've done lapped zips before, but they weren't ever easy for me. I always have to refer to the package instructions! But I'll check and see if I can do one of those too. We'll see - you know how these tutorials are to film - ❤️
Absolutely. Sometimes I've done it all on the inside - but I like this way a little better because you can see on the other side if your stitching is ok. Plus, it's the way I learned and the whole old dog new tricks things . . .
Thank you, thank you for the refresher lesson on zippers.
Glad it was helpful!
I learned how to put zippers in the same way back in the 70’s and I have always done it this way.
I like it the best.
Thanks Jen, I’ve been sewing for years and years but never used this method before. It was so easy. You’ve converted me. 😀👌
Wonderful! You'll be a pro in no time -
Great video, you are an amazing teacher. Simple and calm instructions but very thorough. Thank you ❤️
Thank you so much!
I learned to put in a zipper exactly the way you showed! Have NO idea when I learned to do this, or from whom. Great tutorial and confirmation!

OMG. I love you. This is the best zipper tutorial I have seen. Thank you, you are a natural teacher.
My pleasure! I'm so glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much it really helps i think you underestimate yourself you are a fabulous sewist
Oh thank you Robyn - you are too kind!
I have been putting my zippers in like this for years just so easy
Right?
I appreciate the video Jen. I had forgotten how easy it is to sew a zipper in.
My pleasure! I'm so glad it was helpful!
Great tutorial! Who says you're you're not an expert? Looks like an expert finish to me. 😄
Thanks Becky!
Thank you for the wonderful tutorial. Zippers have always been a problem for me, but you make it look easy. Can't wait to try this method.
You can do it!
My phobia is gone! TY and I love you :) I could do invisible and near me they're getting hard to find. Now I'll do these, they look great !
My mom used Scotch tape pieces horizontally to hold the zipper down. Also one of us used 2 sided tape that washed out. Thanks for your tutorial. I haven't put in a zipper in so many years and I sure needed a refresher.
Great tip about the double sided tape. I'd heard of that but never tried it because I'm too lazy!
Thankyou for the tutorial, very informative and you got close up just right xx

So simple, and kind of a shame so many new sewers aren't taught this way since it's so basic and reliable. My pleasure!
Thank you so much Jen, excellent tutorial! I have avoided sewing zippers as a newer garment sewist & want to try them now after seeing your way.
My pleasure! I'm so glad it was helpful!
I do zippers that way, also, except I do all the sewing from the inside. My grandmother taught me a hundred years ago, lol. Thanks , Jen
I think I learned this one about 100 years ago too - 😂

Wonderful tutorial. Just what I needed my friend❤

Great tutorial. I learned how to do an invisible zip early on so I always have to think twice when I add one of these to the mix
And clearly (as evidenced by last night's Zoom) I am totally the opposite! LOL!
Great tutorial! I will definitely be referring back to this!

Good zip info, thanks! I really would love to see your pattern storage system, especially how you store traced patterns with the original!
Here's how I do it: ruclips.net/video/IjRycASe0aI/видео.html I just put the traced patterns in the same envelope.

New look 6669. In a misses medium preferably large.

Same way I was taught in the 70s apart from going down and then up on the inside. Possibly was an Ann Ladbury tutorial.
Both ways work great!
I've been wondering what the difference between an old fashioned zipper and an invisible zipper!
And there you go!
That’s how I’ve always done centered zippers. Only difference is I do all the sewing on the inside. Easy Peasy. No need to be scared of zippers. 🧵🪡
