I just found your videos & love them so far! I want to say how much I appreciate your beautiful natural hands! (Oftentimes long manicured nails distract from projects (for me, personally)).
Not only can you change the zipper pull tab for a pop of color, you can also create a multi-colored zipper tape. For example, take two identical-style zippers, each one a different color. Let’s say red and blue. Cut the end tabs off and separate the zipper tapes. Take the left side of the red and the right side of the blue, and then attach a zipper pull tab.

Vanessa, this was helpful. Thank you. Can you do a part 2 that talks about measuring length before and after adding a zip tab on both ends? I never seem to measure correctly and it is easy to make it too long or too short when ibstalling.
Been following you since your very early beginning and you still manage to teach me something, I ended up buying a ski zipper foot as it was easy to sew with as it is not as wide at the top, but never realized that you can ride the foot on top of the zip coil! Amazing, been sewing for more than 50 years... Never too old to learn new tricks! Thank you for this great video.
Thank you Vanessa, for this great video on zippers! It was very informative and full of useful information. I love your sense of humor and your style of teaching.
I always feel like my zipper foot lets me careen all over the project! I just don't feel like I have as much control with it as I do with the standard foot. But I'll keep trying!
I bought so many dresses, skirts, etc with zippers in them, that I have a bag of many kinds... but love hearing what you use. I really want to do some small , and medium zipper bags this fall.
I love the doing pouches things like that like you just mentioned you have any ideas or any patterns maybe that you created or just some really something cute and different please let me know. Thank you.
Great tips Vanessa, thanks! Maybe doing your new club will get me motivated to use my zipper foot more. I typically keep my walking foot on, too lazy to change it, lol.
I tried one of your items a long time ago wonder if u no the one in talking about could u do it. Its a little change holder r just to hold thing and it has a snap maybe it a use u were showing how to put a snap on but I really think it a little coin holder. I can't remember how to make it but it was easy to make
I have a question, Is there a difference in each side of the zipper teeth. I tied to do a project and she only used one side of the zipper, but I couldn't ever get the zipper pull to work on both sides. It seem so easy for her but it never worked for me. Is that a special type of zipper? She never said one way or the other. The viedo was called Itty Bitty Bags Sew to Sell Tiny Coin Purse Key Holder Table Tennis Balls Jelly Roll Binding Scraps. Please help me understand. I love your instructions in Viedos, they are precise and I can follow well. I wish others would give more details..
...and do not buy a huge supply of cheap zippers! Experience speaking:/. So many of my little triad pouches and some tote bags now have zippers that won’t stay zipped. Many of those embarrassingly were gifts. 🥴
@Tori Rochleau-Rice I agree. I’m not saying that they are the best, but I haven’t had issues with them. I bought cheap zippers in bulk and I have a zippered bag made with one that I open at least 3 to 5 times a day and the bag is six years old. The only part that I’ve had trouble with is the zipper pull fell off last winter. If I were making a heavy duty tote bag or something similar, I’d probably spend extra fora “good” zipper.
You don’t. You either sew up the cut end in a seam or sew back and forth several times over the zipper teeth to create a “stop” made of thread build up. Hope that helps!
You put a tab on that end, or you can put a tab on both ends. Vanessa had a video on installing tabs in her library. I’ve made a ton of them, matching them to totes and/or hand bags.
@@fionamackenzie3905 you’re welcome, I watched a video on how to replace a zipper in a coat and she showed that a lot of times the pull is all that’s broken. Downtown tailoring is the channel.
Very good tutorial. You explain very clearly. Thank you.

How in the world?! My zippers would be a hot mess if I used my walking foot you must have that technique down! lol, Tamara!
Hi from Texas. Awesome. Thank you. It is also a reminder. Great review. More...
Wonderful information. Thanks!
Zippers have always been my downfall. This was extremely helpful. I guess practice is the key to success! Thanks so much Vanessa.

To be fair, I think "Oh no, my project is ruined!" at least 3x per project. ;) Usually it turns out ok.
Torture LOL...I am in for sure :)

Wow, thank you. That is excellent advice.
The company from which I ordered my faulty zippers was not the same as the one Crafty Gemini uses. I’m probably going to try hers soon.

How do you put the stop you just cut off back on the zipper?

@@fredawade9115 Thanks for the help, Freda!
Love your videos Vanessa..question..can you buy zipper pulls somewhere, or do you have to take them off an old zipper?
You can buy them at JoAnns and online just be sure you have the zipper size.
