I came into this to hear creepy lore on the finger creepers but instead learned how much of a good snake boi rykard is to put them in caria manor to protect his little sister and to put them outside the dung eater’s cell to save the world from the age of poop
What's wrong with the dung eater ending? He just wants to teach us all how to eat ass.
The age of poop is our retribution
@@JJEERRPP "when everyone is eating poop, no one is.."
@@noireweiss762-Sun Tzu
Then why did he throw one at the bird in mountaintop of the giants, just to scare me?
I like the Fire Giant theory. One thing though, The Finger creepers seem to hate fire and are highly vulnerable to it as well.
If they were reanimated using blasphemous magic, it’s stands to reason that they have an inverted “alignment”, no longer being of fire and instead hating and fearing it.
I mean, the greatest of irony is a Fire Giant hand afraid of fire
Finger creepers, royal revenants, and the wormfaces are the three most immediately disturbing enemies. Others might be more creepy when you think more about their place in the world and what they represent, but those three just look uncanny and inhuman enough at first glance to inspire instinctual repulsion.
The giant birds in Caelid set off my caveman instincts too, without even knowing how tough they were I already wanted to stay away
Any1 else hated the dmn lobsters?
What about Rykard
how bout those bloody and rotten crows at mohgwyn palace??
Don’t forget those haunting ass cemetery shades! Those things are the reason why I don’t do catacombs anymore.
You no, this video made me realize. Technically if you get Ranni's ending you really do join the serpent king as family.
Welp. Coming here after the dlc dropped, and witnessing Metyr, Mother of Fingers...I think it's safe to say that we need another finger creepers lore video.
Agreed!
@square-table-gaming well don't waste time replying to my comment. Get to making the video!!! Lol.
@@square-table-gamingcan you do a vid on the knights of mesmer
This only makes the fire giant’s situation even sadder. Imagine being the last of your kind, a survivor of war, cursed to watch over a flame (twice) and all the while snake daddy goes around cutting the hands of your fallen comrade’s.
I wonder if the reason the fire giants wrists are his weak points is because Rykard tried to take the Giant’s hands and failed
@@t5hammer871could be, shackles don't make sense for that region of its body. This also brings into question who else has challenged the giant or even knew about it since we know at least one other tarnished managed to get to the forge
@@Canaanitebabyeater I don't think Vyke ever reached the Fire Giant. He went up there, found Shabriri, and subscribed to the idea that everyone should unsubscribe to life.
@@silenthero2795 I don’t think he entirely subscribed to the idea because in the evergaol fight, he doesn’t use any frenzied flame incantations but yeah, doubt he made it to the forge
@@silenthero2795 Sounds like your just spit balling here because nothing about that makes sense. Rykard's goal was clear and that was to absorb enough people to be able to eat a god. In game we only see Shabriri because he took over the other guy's body after he died likely just so he could talk to us and convince us to take the frenzied flame and burn the world. That means Shabriri likely wouldn't be there when Rykard is there because he wouldn't have a body or even a reason to be there.
These are pretty much just what the Super Smash Bros Melee Master Hand turned into after a rough spot in it's 20's
There are a couple other spots where they appear that aren't mentioned. There are some Fingercreepers in Liurnia beneath Caria Manor guarding the Intelligence-Knot Tear. There are also some in the upper sewers of Leyndell, with a large one guarding a Lost Ashes of War.
I also recall the area where the Amber Starlight Shard is, I’m very sure Fingercreepers are also there
@@kanseidorifto2430 nah those tentacle mfs are there

I think it's worth noting that Rykard's body seems to constantly be growing hands. The open wounds writhe with what appear to be both serpentine heads and grasping hands, an easy origin for the Fingercreepers. After all, a serpent never dies. So the hands he cuts from his body will inevitably grow back, and should they happen to be wearing a magic ring...
This is true but it doesnt account for the hands having more than 5 fingers
@@square-table-gaming perhaps he grafts his hands with that of the giants. Maybe to give it life, he'll graft one of his magic ring fingers to the giants' hand
Not really. If you look at Rykards model, you will find that he has only 2 big arms and 2 big legs with his white skintone coming from holes in the serpent body, while the others are normal human sized hands most likely from all the other people devoured by the serpent
@@square-table-gaming He has multiple fingers on his main hands too though, it's even shown in your video...
@@square-table-gamingwhat if it’s two hands that have been fused at the wrists.
Well, now we know where both the two fingers and the fingercreepers come from, they both come from the daughter of the greater will
WILD revelation. Doesn't super explain why they seem so connected to Rykard but hey we'll look into it
@@square-table-gamingwe do find one of the dung eater quest item there so them being in vulcano manor might be connected to dung eater
I just finished the Renalla fight and it was something out of a Junji ito book. The body horror of this game is palpable
when a spider and a severed hand love each other very much, you get something literally no one and I mean NO ONE asked for.
Fingercreepers are definitely one of the terrifying, but the most monstrous enemy in Elden Ring is definitely Royal revenants. I hope you would make a lore video about these freaks as well. 😰
Really hope you guys cover Stormveil Castle and how deathroot is slowly creeping throughout the whole thing and the knights occupying it.
It was the place in which the Act of Desecration towards Godwyn occured. On the Black Night when Ranni's Black knifes jumped him, killed and carved his corpse up with the finger slaying blade.
Below Stormveil is the location where his blood was spilled and his corpse first laid before it was moved to the roots of the Eldentree. That location seems very key in the fact that Godwyn's Deathroot has affect over any place his blood spends enough time in.
There is one location you forgot: They're in the northwestern shore of Liurnia where they guard the Intelligence flask tear. It's pretty consistent with the other locations though.
The Ginormous Finger Creepers in the frozen mountaintop of the Giants is the stuff of nightmares.
I figured they were the Giants hands once I compared their sizes to the corpses on the mountain top. But I never figured out who reanimated them. Awesome video.
honestly I like to think that these spider hands have the ability to drain the life of out of anything they hold onto. Since after all they don’t have a mouth so it makes sense when you think about it.🤔🐱
STG is probably the most underrated Elden Ring Channel out there.
Keep up the good work!
Thank you! As long as people are digging our content, that's all we care about
I love the design choice of having the magic attack come from their Middle Finger
The finger monsters are honestly pretty creepy for me but the creepiest for me are the deathbirds
I find it interesting that Rykard's use of the blasphemous art of resurrection echoes that of a familiar tale, the tale of Navlaan the Chaos Sorcerer in Dark Souls 2.
Navlaan was a sorcerer who utilized the blasphemous dark art of resurrection, he and his entire village were exterminated, and any mentions of his name forbidden by law.
The Fingercreepers Elden Ring's nod to the Wallmasters from Legend of Zelda!
If the theory of the creepers being severed Rykard hands can be easily dismissed just because they arent 1:1 reproductions of the hands on his model, then one can also dismiss that they are grafted fingers taken from the giants at the mountaintops, because they look nothing like the fingers on the Fire Giant. Rykard's hands are the closest thing in the game to the creeper (only differing in rings worn and lacking any opposable thumbs), already possessing an unnatural amount of fingers, so no need for a head canon involving grafting
I think the sword of night and flame is cool representing the connection between Caria manor and the fire giants with its abilities
Love the use of Myuuji's "Living in the Dark." Was always wanting to know more about these freaky things. So if Rykard was the one who grafted these weirdos, then that would be three demigods (Godrick, Godefroy, Rykard) that have practiced the "artform" now. It's starting to seem to me like grafting wasn't as rare as we were told.
It's likely the taboo was more about royalty grafting themselves as opposed to grafting your subjects.
was godefroy a demi-god?
@@jaydeejay4166 I'm actually not 100% sure. He's a part of the golden lineage, judging by his evergaol. Same with Godrick as well, a descendant but not really a demigod. So I guess it's three members of the golden lineage that have practiced grafting, not three demigods. My bad!
The Sword of Night and Flame says that the fire giants and the astrologers, predecessors or the glintstone sorcerers, were close neighbors when they both shared the mountaintops, so I just assumed that the hands were some kind of living fetish thing made by the astrologers from their dead friends.
Happy to have found an awesome channel who looks at the game from the right prospective
Loved the creepy vibes of this but nothing scares me more than the albanaurics that speed crawl towards you 😩 like throughout all the dark rooms in volcano manor
Im sold on this one, id just add if hes mining giant hands the reason there are hands on the mountain may well also be to protect the source of hands as well as secure the forge
The fact that they're so likely made from the grafted hands of giants actually makes their purpose in being positioned around the Dung Eater seem very clearly like one of revenge and humiliation
See if we take that Trolls refer to smaller giants who betrayed the fell god and as such have agape stomach's with no huge flaming eye, and that due to the Carian's old alliance with the giants as mentioned in the Sword Of Night And Flame they were the only ones to take in Troll Knights and actually allow them knighthood and treat them just as any other warrior as opposed to extremely powerful slave labor and are the only named Trolls on earth(Iji, Bols, etc) then we can assume that Milos, being a named Troll likely worked for the Carians at some point as well, and Dung Eater uses the Sword Of Milos, a greatsword made by ripping out the skeleton of a troll named Milos, so perhaps Milos was a troll knight of caria, and some point before going insane in his fixation on the fell Curse and the Omens that perhaps Dung Eater was once a regular soldier, and in the Liurnian wars tore out Milos' spine and made a weapon of it, which certainly would have pissed off the Carians and- since Rykard is known to be a huge sadist who loves torture and revenge, surrounding Dung Eater with a bunch of grafted magic wielding monstrosities born from the hands of the very ally Dung Eater killed would be a very Rykard-esque revenge in my opinion
When I got into the finger ruins I was fully expecting to confirm this as it was also my line of thought more or less. The dlc sure surprised me.
It's the only area of the law I feel is a true retcon
I am not sure with the connection to the fire giants meanly because they are weak to fire and are the only enemy in the game that catch fire and roll panicky around when hit by fire.
i figure that the fell god isn’t protecting the severed hands like he was the living fire giants
I’m going to like it))
Yessss!!!! More lore videos like this the atmosphere of the the video was amazing
Best video made by STG! I really enjoyed this one
Kid named finger
This was so interesting! Thinking about it.. we can see similarities with the hands of the last fire giant too, since contrary of 'the fingers' who have NO nails, the fire giant's ones resembles more the fingercreeper (with little bit of hair too). And it's just weird the fingercreepers seems to be life because they had their nails inbedded with dark blue glinstone (color similar to Lusat head), and we know glinstones are ambers of residual life (maybe the color of the glinstone indicate what kind of life, but that's another discussion to make). Thank you for your hard work!
What an absolutely amazing video. Very awesome new sub I’ll go binge your other videos rn
The hands never scared me cause I just imagine them being the cousins of ‘Thing’ from Adams family
This was the first video I watched from you in 2022 that got me into the channel, you might be able to see my comment from 2 years ago too (I can’t believe it’s been that long). If I’m gonna be honest this was one hell of a theory these mysterious enemies had no explanation one item description and I actually like THIS more than the revelation in SOTE. Because this was such a good theory man and it all made sense too. I think in SOTE they should’ve just made Metyr be the mother of the 2 fingers and not the finger creepers because leaving it up to interpretation would’ve been more fun. There are some things that I don’t want the answer to yk? Anyways I’m sure my brain will adjust and accept that this is cannon now but this was a really interesting video at the time of watching.
Apparently they CAN reproduce in some way, because in the DLC you are getting one as an ash of war summon, and it makes reference to how they are very close to their mothers when they are young.
Of all the creatures and all the horror that is around in the Lands Between.
These freak me out the most.
They have more Intelligence and Faith in one little finger than I have in my entire body.
I honestly think they're the manifestation of each and every {Try fingers, but whole} message left.
It’s time to come back to this
What they decided to do with the Fingercreepers definitely feels like a wild departure from what we see in the DLC. It seems like their origins weren't quite figured out at the time of the base game's release.
Rykard was the grand Inquisitor of The Lands between before he rebeled against the Golden Order. Also, it looks like he was a cruel man, who fought with heresy with more then heretical ways, and was a heretic himself. Grafting flash golems from giant's hands and using them to guard some forbidden places - like Lands of giants or Dung Eater's cell - is totally his style.
As I'm diving into some "fantasy setting and videogame archeology" I've come under the impression that some From Software contents, especially creatures, were derived from 1999 EverQuest, like: the Amygdala from Bloodborne has a direct parallel in the Amygdalan Knight, the concept of the Deathrot Knight and her blade shows in Malenia, and finally the severed spider-like hands of Elden Rings being inspired by the Severed Hands of the Giants from Everquest. That got me wandering if, perhaps, the origin of the fingercreepers was in fact related to the fire giants given how they are overabundant in the Mountaintop of the Giants.
This is the lore on the Severed Hands from EverQuest:
"A reanimated hand is an enormously large hand and wrist, often adorned with appropriately sized jewelry. It walks on its fingertips and often uses its middle finger as a quadruped would use its head. The origins of reanimated hands are murky at best. Many accept that when the gods cursed the giants, and stripped them of their magical power following Rallos Zek's unsuccessful invasion of the Planes of Power, the gods found it difficult to remove all vestiges of magic from the greatest and most powerful giant spellcasters, so they stripped these titanic giants of their hands as well as the majority of their innate magic. As the stories go, enterprising necromancers since discovered some of these amputated hands and reanimated them into servants. If this version of the hands' origins is true, then some portion of the ancient giants' magical talent yet remains in these hands, providing them with considerable sorcerous abilities. To lend credence to such tales, reanimated hands often dwell where mighty necromancers or their allies reside: in abandoned castles, dungeons, and other ruins." (Everquest RPG - Monsters Of Norrath)
"The giants and ogres were arguably the most powerful beings to walk Norrath, possessing both physical strength and advanced magical prowess. So angered were the gods by the audacity of their invasion of the Planes of Power that, it is said, they severed the hands of all the generals among the spellcasters of the giants, so that they might never again be able to cast spells. Innoruuk’s followers eventually sought out these severed hands, which had once channeled spells of terrible power, seeking to animate them and set them loose into the world." (Everquest RPG - Plane Of Hate)
If someone is curious about the Deathrot Knight and Malenia parallel:
"Standing in the center of the square is the infamous Deathrot Knight, which happily metes out generous doses of pain, suffering, and death to any intruders who approach. Appearing rather like a comely yet severe female, this being is the spawn of pure hatred and evil. It is though that the Deathrot Knight is perhaps one of the scions of the God Which Hate himself. Her unnaturally hard flesh is blue-black, like a sheet of silk stretched over unnaturally formed muscles; in fact, it is almost metallic, as if some ritual had bonded a suit of armor to its very flesh, so that the metal casing writhes and pulses like some hideous organ. Clutched in one of her gauntleted talons is a surprisingly beautiful blade crafted of steel and bone, which she wields with a remarkable grace. On closer inspection, the silver blade is not actually attached to the Knight in any way, but is held in place by the locked gauntlet. The Deathrot Knight fears nothing, hungering to destroy all who oppose her and her "father"." (Everquest RPG - Plane Of Hate)
Bro i never stopped to think that theres this hands. And we have the two and tree fingers. I was just scared to death when first saw them .
To me these creepers looks like a reference to the reanimated hands of EverQuest. They even had the ring on their fingers.
Time to update this video hehe
they are the sons of a alien mother.. who would have guessed?
As soon as I saw the big hands, I thought of the giants, but thought that they were too small.
This makes sense! Thanks
These things creeped me the hell out the first time running into them lol
Ngl my soul temporarily left my body when I first saw one of these things.
I think all of the theory is conclusive but the fact that the fingercreepers are so susceptible to fire. When you think about them as being the hands of the giants who literally worship the fell god (of fire) and are grafted together by rykard who literally lives inside a volcano inside a pit of lava I can't quite fit that into the big picture....
But I really really enjoyed the video. Keep up the great work 😃
Thank you! We think their weakness to fire could be explained by their reanimation. If Rykard revived them for his own ends, that likely would have cut off their connection to their fell god.
Music is very "spooky story for kids cassette tape in the 90s".
Love it
I gotta say I love the spooky music in the background it’s too bad it’s only an October thing lol
I think the hands coming from the giants makes the most sense, given the matching skin colour and the fact that they're, y'know, giant. So I went looking for something I half-remembered, and... turns out there's a fair bit of precedent in real-world folklore for giants having additional fingers. The fire giant that we see in the game has multiple pupils too, which is something else found in IRL folklore.
Elden Ring Halloween content? very unique I love it
Metyr gave birth to them. That's their origin.
Well obviously we know that now haha. Although I will say it seems like the only area of the dlc where you can make a strong case for it being a retcon
Great video really thought it was good made me think a little about it and then I was also thinking maybe that the finger creepers are also a blasphemous product against the two fingers as well for instead of two fingers it is many
This theory actually makes sense. I always assumed the hands were cut from Rykard, signifying all the heroes the fought and consumed. But that explanation doesn't explain the gigantic hand in the Mountain Top, while this one does. Awesome work.
Those fingercreepers went from scaring the crap out of me to pissing me off after getting ganked by them. Not even acting as protection for Rykard's baby sister stops me from burning them at any opportunity.
First creature to give me chills and goosebump the couples of first time encountering them. And thats even when I’m playing with a friend of mine, first time seeing this shit solo, I was like yeah fuck this Imma return later with prepared balls
the giant ones on mountaintop almost made me shit myself
Me going to be up there soon
Could possibly be an oversight but it’s interesting they disappear as if they go back to the erdtree
Fun fact.
They ate weak to fire.
So burn them and they will just flail around.
When i first made it to gelmir castle i was met with fingercreepers the worm faces and a fallingstar beast and i said nope and galloped my lil ass back down the mountain
Its crazy how easy it is to fight them on foot vs horse
Wormfaces are the most disgusting and disturbing enemy to me. Not just because the death blight and appearance but the noises they make- I don’t wanna know what’s under that cloak or under the worms. I really don’t.
Fun fact fingercreepers have a massive weakness to fire
Love the halloween creepy videos!!
If the PRAWNS found a WAY to mount themselves on the Finger Creepers , we Are in trouble 😂😂😂🤕😵
Interesting that hands are in different shapes, they can be little or can be huge, it's possible that they was created with only magic using some organic parts and magic rings was made directly for this creatures, it can be possible that they are able to grow
Sometimes I honestly forget rykard was once human, I would've been cool to know him before he gave himself to the serpent
Nice to finally find out they were given rings 'cause ranged magic.
It also explains why they drop somber smithing stones, since giants were the first smiths
Very interesting to know about them. I was curious if they were connected to the two fingers and three fingers or were some kind of byproduct of the shattering with all the finger stuff involved.
Well this needs to be updated lol. Now we know matery is the mother of all creepers
Remember... if you like... then you should have put a ring on it
also suites the nature of blasphemy itself as Rykard is giving life and purpose to things as opposed to The Greater Will which would be primarily responsible for such graces in the lands between.
Gotta hand it to you... this was bit of lore was quite the handful. If anyone says otherwise, well hey... they can talk to the hands! For this handsome piece of work, everyone should throw their hands up to give you a round of applause!
.
oh hey look, a spider! 🕷
ok it might just be me but, have you ever zoomed in on the things in windmill villages? Their faces covered in blood, it terrified me
Damn.... that's some good lore!
Edit. For them to reproduce...... you gotta graft some twigs and berries, and some who hahs.....
I'm ok that's the hands are from the dead fire giants, grafted and reanimated to have a purpose but i think the magic behind is way older than Rykard ...
That would also explain why they are super weak to fire : they are forbidden to use any source of there previous "life" and will have a painful experience if they do.
fingercreepers and wormfaces are the only 2 enemies in the game that GENUINELY disturbed me. The wormfaces because...well its self explanatory, and these things just cause of how fucking fast they are, its horrific
Went into his video skeptic like c'mon son what you got. But your theory is spot on to what I thought too so I was...ok that's fair
OOOOOOOOO that october intro cleannnn🤤🤤🤤
Your videos are dope bro
Rykard has fused with a snake. Snakes are known for shedding skin... Perhaps he sheds hands? 😆
And I honestly saw them and thought "man what a dumb looking enemy they just made it for shock value no creature could look like that". Now I feel embarrassed cause clearly both the devs and my fellow players put more thought into it than I did. Glad I subscribed to this channel
Happy to have you!
I was originally thinking about how the finger creepers may have been more related to mages in particular rather than just rykard considering the information given by the astrologer starting class and their potential connection to the giants as well. The connection between the giants and mages can also be seen in the sword of night and flame too. So it could have been possible that the finger creeper lore was reconfigured during the creation of the game away from being related to rykard which would also explain their showing up in those same locations. (With the exception of dung eater, I have no idea when it comes to that)
That also lines up pretty well!
Yes!!! Pre watch comment, I’ve been so excited to see what’s next for square table gaming👀
Imagine Rykards Deathroot.. he would be everywhere. Rykard wants the fate of Godwyn to truly complete his ritual.. makes sense.. death is all he needs to complete his ritual
I definitely think Rykard had a hand in their creation. Pun fully intended. ;)
Very interesting!!!!
The Fingercreepers don't have stitching and miss matches parts, there's the theory they're Rykard's hands but I have my own theory
It could be that that come from a Hecatoncheries, the name means "Hundred-Hander" it's a creature from Greek mythology who helped Zeus defeat the Titans.
discovering that they HATE fire made these things 100% easier to fight
