Hey, SLM! About the design, they aren't further development on the Dunkerque but rather an alternative design - or based on said desgins at least. Before settling on the Dunkerque the MN made a bunch of studies on larger cruisers/smaller BC armed with or around 305mm guns, that'd displaced less than the Dunkerquse eventually did. After a bunch of designs they settled on the Dunkerque. They decided that having two Dunkerques was better than having three or four smaller, less survivable units. p.s.: it's been a while since I last read on this subject, so if I got anything mixed up, please do point it out. :)
People have been saying this for years and WG keeps saying that it isn't required, but they keep releasing these ships that just don't fit in in well as cruisers or BB's (especially in modes with limited class numbers so they don't get picked most of the time). WG has its pet projects such as CV rework, subs, and now Super Ships (tier 11) so I expect nobody in the office really cares to focus on making a new class of ships, going through the MM to update it to balance things, and then update the tech trees/premium/special ships. They should of done this early in the games life as it would be a much bigger job now.
@@Swarm509 honestly, i think they just dont give a shit about the top 5% of players who all know about these points in the game that could use improvements but i doubt we will ever see it as the other 95% doesn't care
Dunkerque is the first and only premium I've ever bought(I did get the Duke of York, but I think that was with coal), and I don't know why everybody says it sucks. Well, I do, but I really enjoy it. The only thing thats annoying is when you get an Atlanta on the other team, because then it can shoot you over any island that you try to put yourself between to isolate ships to shoot, and light fires while you have no way of retaliating. I;m excited for when these come out, because I'm a big fan of the French cruiser line.
I find a lot of people either think it can just sit in the open bow tanking or rush in due to the speed. She is really a ship that requires smart plays to do well in, and she can hurt in good hands.
@@pwimbs79 wow lucky >.> i got what i wanted ( toulon and camo) but that too way to much dub ...at least it gave me enought additional token for cherbourg and later with mission the brest camo
Actually a preliminary Dunkirque design. The French had some tonnage left from their allotment given by the Washington naval Treaty, then they lost the Battleship France to shipwreck. So they were looking to design two ships to use this tonnage Dunkirque and Strausbourg.
I looked up the figurehead she is of liberty leading the people from the painting of Eugène Delacroix. Also fun side note same inspiration of the statue of liberty the French gifted us.
The t10 is even better. Not a huge fan of the t8, and Brest at t9 is an improvement but still toward the lower end of t9 tech tree cruisers IMO. But Marseille is pretty good until RNGesus decides to take your dispersion for himself.
I like how SLM was parked by an island bowtanking in the background footage as he was saying 'this is not a ships you park next to an island and bowtank with'
Just saw one in rank today, very good ship in the hand of good players, like she straight up bow in and made an Georgia blow up ( detonation), don't know how but Georgia didn't citadel her during the drive by
I’ve fought a couple of them in Alaska in ranked side far, and they’re a massive pain to fight. Tanky with good armor, and able to bow in and tank most damage from large cruiser guns. Drive-bys only led to pens, not cits. I’m rather impressed, and from what I’ve seen of the T10 it’ll be even better than this
If they are in the enclosed portion, no they won't be able to see ahead of the ship, but if they command from the open deck directly above, and just in front the conning tower (or if they don't do the British thing and they actually command from the conning tower), then their view is over the turrets,
I do appreciate the review. That said, not sure how I feel about it from these gamble-like crate tech line preview ships. Doing a review on premium or special resource ships feels a bit different than these preview tech ships, at least in my opinion.
Looks fun, I just got through the tier 10 French BB line so it would be a nice fit. Also working on the Italian cruiser line, up to tier 8, and I love ships I can throw around and basically open water/maneuver tank.
I got it second try, worth 2000 dubloons for sure. I liked Adriatico so much I couldn't resist. I don't know if I like the play style, I don't like hiding with my cruiser...I like cruising and being on the move.
i got the toulon and it camo, i lvoe you weegee say it will rework camo and make them consmetic only but still try to find way to make you pay more to get them
Good lord, a 190mm turtleback? That would make it invincible. PLEASE place your cursor on the INNER part of the armour scheme when detailing the plate thicknesses.
I shouldn't brag about it but saturday went to armory and Brest was as the first available bundle. Still trying to decide if it's worth the thousand dubs
I don't like French ships in the game as a whole, Jean Bart being an exception. But I'll be honest, the low, sleek hull and stripped back superstructure of the older ships is always aesthetically pleasing to me.
I got the Toulon on the second try and Brest on the eight try. I don't think that 8,000 doubloon was too much to spend, by the way, I used the doubloons that I already had so dollar cost was zero. Why is the Toulon and the Brest listed as a heavy cruisers with 305mm guns but the Mechlenburg with 305mm guns, is listed as a battleship. Shouldn't they be listed as a battleship or the Mechlenburg should be a battlecruiser?
Really it comes down to WG whims to an extent, but Mecklenberg is also larger and more heavily armored than any T10 cruiser, even the (actually more heavily-armed) queen of cruiser chonk at the tier Puerto Rico. The guns might fit for a battlecruiser, but the hull very much does not.
Situational, you have excellent concealment, high speed with speed boost, good penetration and a reload booster, so if you can get in a good position, you're probably gonna have a good chance of forcing the enemy to make moves they probably don't want to make. On the other hand, you have weak armor and not so consistent main guns, therefore if you can't find such positions, or if RNG messes with you, than you're probably not gonna have a good time. In short, her playstyle is interesting and her consumables give her great potential, but she lacks the hardware to support it.
I was thinking along the same lines. Since 15" guns are considered pretty small by high-tier standards and Yoshino (310s) isn't called a BC, I would want to call them supercruisers. Having said that, if they were built in the 1920s, they'd almost definitely fall under the designation of battlecruiser.
This ship pisses me off, it's bullsh*t how it has guns that penetrates the Bismarck's armor like its plastic, they need to stop with these imaginary ships

It is really getting to the point where they should break the Battlecruisers out of their respective ship types and make a new class in game for them
Agreed, same with large cruisers they need to be their own class

Also do not understand how 28s is good reload for a cruiser.... There are actual battleships with better reload...

Love the Dunkerque and I do enjoy it when people underestimate it
Never do the premium crates but it was available in the first crate so got it for 1k dubs
Same here I got the premium ship Toulon first and then the Brest second in that order.

Of all the new ship lines released, this seems like a truly great one for me.
I love the Alaska, a whole line of similar ships is just what I wanted.
Oh glad ya got one! I snagged mine on the 5th box and was looking forward to your review!
I've got the Brest and she's crazy. Double citadel in one shot to Musashi has made me fall in love with this ship

Lol 13:45 incapacitated steering from a single secondary hit. Feelsbadman lol
Notice that the 2nd turret blocks the view of the bridge forward. This would be a non-starter in ship design.
I have always been biased to the French ships. Definitely going to grind this event to the full.
Would you choose this over a Carnot?

Dasha Perova is the commander my France T9 Cruiser: the BREST!
So why is this ship a battle cruiser and the Dunq/Stras a BB?
Me and my budddy got lucky got them first bundle and these ships slap hard
The secondaries are the big turrets at the rear - these boats need better secondaries as they have no rear facing primary weapons.
So it's best of the Breast
If this line actually has good AA with DFAA, then this line is just better then the Dutch Cruisers

The Brest looks great, hehe.
you keep forgetting to show how many flakpuffs it throws up in your reviews. flak is the only thing that does anything in AA.
