How does Disney not understand the dwarves were already magical creatures? Dwarves were fantasy creatures in German folklore, and Snow White is a German fairy tale. And a notable feature of their design is how they have four fingers on each hand instead of 5, which is a telltale characteristic of the fae in many parts of Europe. They are similar to elves in this regard. Them also working as miners of precious metals is also a trait of the Germanic fantasy Dwarf. These people put in charge of these remakes know nothing about the content they're supposedly improving.

The real life snow white was a Bavarian princess and Bavaria had dwarf miners. The miners even wore the collerful hats in real life. There's a theory that the princess was associated with the dwarf miners because she was an advocate for them.

The moment that…actress…who is playing Snow White said “cartoon” I was filled with anger. It was like she was stomping on all the sacrifices that Walt made to make Snow White and belittling him. Never have I seen such contempt for the source material. Also they’re shooting the Brothers Grimm in the back as well. I was friends with one of the great granddaughters of the Grimm’s. They’re icons of German literature. So this film is also a gut punch to German heritage. I mean did they cast any Germans for this picture?

Worth noting: Gadot has been married to the same man for several years, has little kids, filmed the first _Wonder Woman_ while pregnant (wearing a green t-shirt so they could hide her belly with CGI), and generally seems nice. Out of touch and a bit silly (see "Imagine") but not mean. Whereas Zegler seems to spend all her time throwing tantrums at protests or attacking people on Twitter.

Her rather awkward interaction with Ezra Miller when that drug-addled predator was sperging out about "hetero-patriarchy" comes to mind.

Snow White a beautiful, classic work of art. It infuriated me to see that interview with the current actress claiming it was being fixed...

  • @nut4ku
    @nut4ku Год назад +315

I dont want to be racist but changing Snow White's skin color is one of Disney's most audacious sins because her skin color really affect the story. It is their form of disrespect for classic works that have brought them success to date (especially this film is a pioneering film for Disney Princess). Having skin "as white as snow" is not just about Snow White being a white woman. It also has to do with the fact that she looks radiant and out of this world. What these writers and filmmakers working for Disney don't understand is that Snow White isn't just any ordinary beautiful girl. Her beauty is meant to be supernatural and on par to that of creatures of myth and legend, such as angels or the elves from Lord of the Rings. Arwen from the Peter Jackson films wasn't just some fair maiden. Her skin shimmered in the light as a way to express how her beauty is near divine, as befitting of her status as an elven highborn.
Also my German friend ever said "As a german who grew up with the popular fairytale, this is sooo confusing lol. There is a psychological meaning behind why it's called SNOW WHITE and why it's so important that she is a super white pale person. It's not just about an ideal of beauty. It's about "de4th" and life, she symbolizes a woman who is oppressed by her mother and feels like de4d, trapped in a cage - a coffin. But the story tells us that even if you looked de4d or you feel de4d, you can be loved, you can become free. It's just something those disney writer do not wanna aknowledge. And that's super sad because those stories are not simply "funny children stories" but tales that were told over hundreds and hundreds of centuries in europe to give people hope."
Dont use the voice as the reason. That is useless if the movie goes worldwide. Many countries dubbed movies in theaters. Well after all, we live in modern era. Anything can be done, the same as the voice problem. It's the same case as Emma Watson. Why Disney doesn’t hire a singer to dubbing an actor/actress who cant sing? This used to be incredibly common and could be easily done. The autotune is brutal.
They also removed important characters like the 7 dwarves and the prince (actually Walt wanted to increase the prince's screen time and make him more important to the story but due to time and financial limitation, he was forced to do it as is. But then he got his revenge on Sleeping Beauty by giving Prince Philip a lot of involvement to the story and more screen time). I just hope that if they can't bring out the same character appearances then they can at least make improve the story. But after I saw the interview, maybe we can't expect much. Idk if they want to repeat the same mistake like what they did with Peter Pan & Wendy. Nah it's clearly intentional and they don't learn from their mistakes. The story now isnt about love or romance but about snow white become strong woman who doesn't depend herself on any men and want to become a strong leader. Again, I'm sick of this feminist agenda. No women are perfect if they're not a girlboss huh?
Wanting romance and being gentle is not a weakness. Hollywood today seems to think changing feminine characters to be more aggressive is not feminism. It's one thing when the men becomes less central. It's another when they make the female character have no flaws or weaknesses and give the male characters no strengths. Also the most ironic thing is that Walt Disney actually wanted to increase the prince's screen time and make him more important to the story but due to time and financial limitation, he was forced to do it as is. But then he got his revenge on Sleeping Beauty by giving Prince Philip a lot of involvement to the story and more screen time. This really shows that current Disney writers don't even care about the company founder himself because they don't actualize what the original creator desires. Rachel even said that the Prince is stalker.
Walt Disney is rolling his grave. His first ever film. One of the most revolutionary movies ever made. I usually just ignore these remakes, but this is where I draw the line. This is straight up unforgivable. "Snow White" was the one movie Walt was the most protective of. When he discovered a group working on a sequel, he fired them, because he didn't want this movie touched in any way. The set burning down should've been a sign of Walt's anger from beyond. I know it shows that this is the worst decade of Hollywood and it's sad because this wasn't just some old movie it was art and it's the same as re-doing a famous painting and calling it better when it's clearly worse. Over 86 years ago, we have beloved animated classic that inspired by fairy tale, good written original story, memorable characters, and all of them being made for entertainment purpose. Now here's what we get, they all be rehashed with political agenda and woke push.
Well, again, if this isn't about representation or political propaganda or whatever it is then this is just a form of laziness in presenting stories. They are lack of creativity in making stories, they end up taking the short and dumb way by ruining many people's childhoods. They take what is already there and has been successful and then change it for marketing gimmick so that many people are interested instead of making new story (but their recent original movies was also a flop too). The movie can only profit because it's just nostalgia bait for the fans. I'm sure that if the original film wasn't as successful as it used to be, then this live action film would have sunk. It’s sad that hollywood movies now exploit diversity to make profit.

So my brother dates/is about to marry a Disney-Adult, and she will not say 1 bad thing about Disney. She loves/watches most of what they put out, except for the MARVEL stuff bc she just doesn't jive with superheroes, and at face-value you just see a dedicated consumer. The interesting thing though, is that if you talk to her about it, she kind of just clams up. She doesn't have anything good to say about most of it; certainly nothing critically positive, and so after just some basic "oh yeah, it was so good," she's got nothing to say about it.
That was until the live-action Leo & Stitch movie was announced. She loves the original L&S; it's her personal favorite movie. With the live-action announcement, she basically just doesn't talk about it. She's clearly upset, from the face she makes whenever it comes up, but she's so dedicated to not smack-talking Disney that she just goes quiet and shrugs and does all sorts of other non-committal, but not positive responses. It's actually pretty bizarre to watch.

This is why Disney REALLY needs to stop these remakes.
I know Disney just wants to re-invigorate the cycle of controversy with their live-action Snow White remake since the Little Mermaid remake is pretty much irrelevant now.
But quite frankly, I’m fed up with this attitude these people have been showing to the animated Disney classics. Yeah, they weren’t perfect, and certain elements didn’t age well. But seeing so many young people constantly shitting on animated Disney movies and acting like they’re Nazi crimes against humanity really pisses me off.
Admittedly, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs isn’t one of my favorite Disney movies. The story is very basic. Snow White is a mostly passive character with a dated design and animation style. In fact, the dwarfs are really the only characters with actual personality.
But it was the very first feature-length animated movie, particularly the first one from Disney, and Walt Disney went to great painstaking lengths to make it happen. This is the movie that set Disney on the course to becoming an entertainment powerhouse.
Snow White may not have the most interesting story or characters of the Disney canon, but I do appreciate the artistry of it. I certainly understand and appreciate the impact that Snow White had on animation and cinema. And I will defend it from narrow-minded fools who consider it a heinous atrocity that shouldn’t be allowed to exist just because it was created before modern social standards.
The original animated Snow White made a fortune at the box office back in the day and is still seen as the definitive adaptation of the classic Brothers Grimm story.
Meanwhile, I predict this live-action remake will fail to make its money back and be quickly forgotten and irrelevant a month or two after its release (just like all of the other Disney remakes have).

A big problem is that younger adults have been "taught" that "old automatically equals bad" so Disney have been making unfortunate changes to movies (to appease and invite these people) that result in worse movies. Don't get me wrong, there are also other reasons why Disney are going downhill. However when we stop preaching/believing that we (current people) are automatically smarter/better than everything, every-one and every idea before us then perhaps we can create good movie remakes (if we must).
Although perhaps every franchise will be destroyed by the current writers before people learn a different message.
As a sidenote, the only remakes that I might be interested in would be a live-action "Team America: World Police" or a muppetised "Gladiator," for the novelty at least. If we ever get a muppetised "Gladiator" (it will never happen), I hope that it would be the theatrical version. The extended version is much, much worse...

Imagine thinking that the prince in Snow White was some anti-feminist character when he basically was a plot device the entire time. His presence in the beginning was to bring attention to the queen’s jealousy of her younger and more beautiful daughter. At the end of the film, he just showed up at the end. The truth saviors were the seven dwarves that risked their lives to hunt down the evil witch after she’d poisoned Snow. These mischaracterizations of Disney princes (and more importantly, of the princesses) are really concerning. They’re not a bunch of damsels in distress just sitting around for a prince to save them. And it’s upsetting that people just seem them as that.

Didn't we already have this snow white story? Didn't they pull this with princess Jasmine? Once upon a time? And I think there's a Maid Marian show or movie that did this too.
My issue with all of these changes with the Disney live action movies is that they truly aren't adding anything unique. Just like I pointed out above a lot of these "corrections" they are bragging about have been done before. And often they miss out on essential plot points by changing them as seen with the fight in a little mermaid, why Cinderella wasn't so strong and independent, and just about everything with Mulan.
They are trying so hard to pull off what Ever After did by giving a character more agency without shitting on the source whose coattails they forget they are riding on.

  • @UncensoredScion
    @UncensoredScion Год назад +5

I'm gonna be perfectly clear here.
the "fairest of them all" part being changed is a VERY AMERICAN viewpoint.
Beauty as a monarch is an important quality, as you are the face of and representative of the country as a whole, that's why you never see a Royal in anything but full makeup/sytled hair and a suit/dress while in public.
They have an image they're trying to convey and they are meant to show the best they can for the world to see as they're the "image" of the country.
America doesn't get that anymore, Snow White had a beautiful singing voice, flawless hair, flawless skin, a grace of movement that was natural to her. That's why the Evil Queen wanted her dead, the moment she became a young lady and could begin assuming the authority she was always destined to become, she was a threat to the trained and very controlled queen.
Also as a Royal Line requires heirs, a Queen would need to be married to cement that line and have a Prince Consort or a King with them.
Again, America is so divorced from the world of this kind of thinking now that they don't equate it with anything except outwards appearance and physical beauty. But no one has asked how the Evil Queen was fairest of them all before Snow White was noticed as she isn't beautiful, she's harsh and very angular compared to her counterpart, it's because the fairest was in how she presented herself, how she acted and reacted in public that made her that.
This is what you get though when you remove all historical culture from a country and leave it to fester in a mire of constantly shifting idealism.

To put things into perspective, the $71 BILLION purchase of Fox by Disney cost them more than they will ever likely make back from combined revenues of Disney animation, Disney live action, Marvel, Pixar, Lucasfilm, and the Fox movies combined in the next 20+ years, including movies which came out from 2018- present, such as Avatar 2, Avengers: Endgame and Rise of Skywalker. Remember, each movie has its own expenses, and only profits from the movies and their merchandising- which is largely not making much money either- can pay back old expenses. Theme park profits can help so much, as the parks cost money to run as well. Same with the cruise line. And none of this considers Disney's other high-end purchases, losses from Disney+, or box office bombs such as Lightyear, Strange World, Solo, or Indiana Jones 5. Not to mention "The Little Mermaid" (2023) or the probable loss that is The Marvels.

When it comes to MCU I think it should have been focused more on one arc. My problem with the MCU is too many plot points. The Multi-verse, Time travel, the introduction of too many characters like it's all over the place. The only good thing that turned a profit was no way home that explained everything better than anything. and that wasn't even made by DISNEY. that was sony who want literally NOTHING to do with disney in the first place and i can't blame them.
Sony explained The multiverse and introduced new and old characters in both Into and Across the spider-verse without it feeling disjointed and in comprehensive.
It also had characters that are not only relatable but are likable and you feel for their emotion and the amount of responsibility each one has.
In my opinion Disney should have left Kang the conqueror stuff and instead done a venom arc, maybe something like this:
after the events of no way home venom is unleashed kicking off the fantastic four and then building both of these heroes up to secret wars where venom and spidey meet. then the suit bonds, reed tells him the suit is alien and is not safe, something happens where venom gets unleashed and hates spidey, venom goes to new york and both heroes and villiains are infected by the symbiote causing spidey to team up with the fantastic four and defeat venom.
don't know if it's good or not but it's better than half the stuff in she-hulk i can tell you that much.

She wasn’t just some bad ass girl boss, who was trying to show up the boys. But a warrior who wanted to bring peace to her country and defend the weak. But now, for some reason. The fact that Gal Gadot and Snow White's actress almost repeat exactly what they think about the original Disney film and what they are trying to accomplish with this DOA rendition, makes it all feel all the more artificial and soulless.
Disney is rotted from the inside out. Their terminal and won't course correct. They must be brought back down to earth before they get their heads out their collective asses and actually make worth while stories and if doing adaptation, ls respecting the source material.
