My Firm bought the PAT 420. Demo OK as far as it goes but having real difficulty trying to work out how to test laptops and other transformer-fed devices. How do you programme and test for a 6 point power socket? How do you test power tools fed by rechargeable batteries? Really do need more practical demos for this kind of kit. Having real issues with this.
Hi Lolis, for testing multiple gang extension outlets there are 2 ways. You can edit the test group and increase the number of cycles of the test from 1-10. Alternatively you can create a new test group to specifically for certain number of outlets. There are no requirements to test battery operated tools set out in the IET Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment. With this in mind the charging equipment for the Batteries would be tested under Class 1 or Class 2 or covered by IT Equipment whichever would be apparent for the individual chargers. Does the printer print pass/fail labels as well as the asset ID barcode? Do you have to write out the pass labels manually? Does the PAT tester remember what test to use for a saved item or does it just recall the location and other data so you still have to select which test to perform?

There is no need to manually write out pass labels. When setting up an asset for testing, the appliance parameters (client, location, description, serial number, test data, etc.) are all stored in the memory of the PAT This data is then retained for when the item is tested at a later date and therefore does not need to be re-entered.
Reason for asking is we have no idea if this is possible and one of our clients database is 999+ items hence the change of tester has been required. On top of that we have 20+ different clients and assorted locations and if we have to enter each database by hand its going to be a real long and ache of a job!!!
I’ve just bought the Pat450 and bought a brother PT-700 printer but when I click the print button on the pat450 it’s coming up “printer not connected” although the usb is connected and device is on any suggestions how to solve this issue?
The PAT420 is an incredibly frustrating piece of equipment to use. The hardware is great, up to the usual high Megger standard. The meter firmware is frustrating beyond belief. Avoid, or get a proper site demo of how the asset database actually functions on a job as it is being used, before buying. Not talking about the software for PC, this is the software on the meter itself. Way too many issues to list here. World class hardware, kindergarten software.

How and where do you set up what is printed on the bar code labe? l
How do you delete saved assets that you have tested from the machine so new ones can take over the id like 0001
What about doing 110v extension leads? I’ve tried to test one with this tester the same way I’ve tested on others and had no luck.
Not had a problem here, no different to doing 240V ones as far as I can see.
Can you load the database from a pat4dv into the 420? And if so how do you do it?

Make sure the printer doesn't have the 'P-Lite' setting on, the tester won't see it if that is set.
