A Visit to Woodland Mall (OH)

- Woodland is a classic dead mall in Bowling Green, Ohio. Although the town itself is good, its proximity to better options in Toledo coupled with a lack of strong anchors are likely to have done this mall in. However, it still remains open as of the making of this video. Is there any hope for this place? Let's discuss its situation and find out.

I like almost all the music you use in your introductions but this intro music was hands down some of my favourite music so far. It really calmed me down and made me forget about all my stresses in my dysfunctional family. Thanks for that.😊❤
Too bad that they closed the movie theater, and now there isn't one in the entire city. You'd think a college town of 30k people would be enough to be able to support a movie theater.
Judy dance have been there for awhile and took the movie theater space when left sad I know alot of people miss the movies there and still talk about it like this comment if you agree! We should get the movie theater back!
This was a good video.💜 Minus a few things, I really like this mall. The food court is definitely my favourite part of this mall. 🤗🙂😊It sucks that it's so empty. I can't believe a Sears store is opened in a mall this dead. That's a jaw dropper.
Did anybody else notice the Woodland Mall black and green carpets at 1:30? I like the fact that they have the initials. Simple and nice IMO. On a different note I thought Bowling Green was only in Kentucky. I never knew there was a Bowling Green in Ohio. I guess you learn something new every day.
I noticed this, and I liked seeing that entrance carpet!
I love this mall, I love the aesthetics of this place. I heard the Sears outlet closed though.
I really thought the "not even that was safe" line would have been enough of a hint...
Yes it closed up. The Fringe moved into the space. They’re expanded, now selling furniture and bigger items.
Wow. That mall looks really old. Thanks for filming.
Tried to buy a Sears from the link on the banner and the URL is down... 😞
You have to be joking. Once had a guy inside of Radio Shack asked me if I was interested in buying the store when I was buying battery's. Not to many years ago, when they were already closing many stores..
i
Ah my all time favorite dead mall. You can have your Forest Fair and Century 3 I'll have this. I first discovered this in 2021 when I was talking to a girl online and we decided to meet halfway which was this area. She canceled on me but I still went here and I fell in love with this place.
Shout out to the sports place. I always buy a lanyard when I'm there, I have like 3 now haha. Also there is an excellent Asian buffet in the building in front of the mall.
2:12 That place on the right is now a sushi place that moved from a local Kroger IIRC.
The Sears Hometown closed last year and the thrift store in 7:10 moved into it.
I'm from Ohio. The Astronaut joke was pretty funny. Nothing but flat land, corn and cows.
I wouldn't mind driving through a scenery like that at all.
Eastern Ohio does have mountains, but you're much farther from everything lol.
Yes that was a good joke.
Better looking than a big city. Imagine living in SF or Portland now and seeing what they see. I grew up in the country, and wouldn't live anywhere else.
Used to go here every week for a sports collectibles store when I was in college. I'd grab a small pizza at the Jet's nearby, chow down in the food court here, and buy some NASCAR diecast. Only things left when I was there were that store, Durhams, Sear's, and a movie theater. Place truly died when the theater left right as COVID started. You can even take a peek past the shutters on the theater and see some promotional materials and theater supplies that were left behind. It'd be so cool to get to explore that theater now.
So sad. You're right, there's nobody ever there, never was 5 years ago either. I probably was the most frequent visitor there. I'd walk about a mile to get there every week or so. Nice place to relax and take a break from the world.
Edit: There it is at 4:31! Sport Zone! It's still there! I may need to make a visit
I moved to Bowling Green about a year ago and this mall has fascinated me but I didn't know much about it. Good to hear the history of it, I am guessing it Dunham sports was Jc Penny originally? Wonder what the food court had? Sears is now a thrift shop.
Blimey… no expense was spared on the exterior of this mall 😂
When I went to BGSU 2011-15, it looked like this and all of us said there was no way this place would survive even a few more years. Now a decade latter. Geez.
Cute
Ohayo!
My own view is, it's time to either convert the mall into something else or redevelop the land. The fact That the woodland mall is still a thing is a bit odd and I have to believe that it's days are numbered.
Thanks for 🎥 I'm been to buys to go there heard they got new places I do go to the store starting with a d I know the name just don't know how to spell it! I got sisters that play travel softball and got a bother that those soccer and we live close so we just go there for alot of sport things! Wish it was a dicks because I love that store my mom spends alot of money at both stores a couple of months or I think it was last summer my mom bought a trampoline there!
The Miami Vice type music at the beginning needs the volume down just a bit.
Sad they took game room out my brother use to have boy scouts with just his leader and boy scout friends and I use to go in game room but took out sad😢
Old vlog because there is a sushi place there know! It use to be in krogers but it moved!
Some one was going to buy the mall he looked at it but never bought it! I think it was not going to work for his use!
Finally a person hitting it on the nail - TOO many of these things were built, and if there were several in 1 area, all were doomed. Just a sign of how stupid the people who rushed to build these things were, not looking long-term or seeing what others were doing and where. Some of these malls are gorgeous, while others are just blah, bland.
I really like the giant gumball machine.
As usual you have great taste in the music you use.
When was the footage taken?
I like those comments at the end of the video during the drive, pretty funny. But try driving I-90 across South Dakota and you'll experience vast flat emptiness with a bunch of Wall Drug advertisements along the way.
For me, the worst is Illinois. It's flatter than Iowa, and you got long straights of nothing but corn & soybeans.
Oh. And watch out for oncoming traffic in your lane.
Oh! The mirrored walls at the entrance to the movies! Awesome.
Always dig the opening music! This one was great! I was expecting to hear “take…these broken wings” 😂
Broken Wings from Mr. Mister? I love that song. It's so addictive. Thanks for pointing that out. That song didn't come to mind when I was listening to it. It did sound familiar though.
@@ms.zelman3032yes! At about 45 to 60 seconds in, the synth drums and keys kick in and it’s got that broken wings sound… at least to my ears 😂
Imagine having to pull your car into that lot as an employee or even worse a business owner in that mall. One day you would just get out of your car and kill yourself. Depressing AF. Great video and thank you for reminding us of the nostalgia and that likely our life is not that bad.
Thanks for the video, great footage! Glad you didn't get run out, but

My home town!
I live in BG, to be honest I stopped going to the mall when my church closed up in 2020. It wasn’t due to Covid, just pastors were burnt out.
That mirror grid ceiling and the Elder storefront! Great picture!
That a huge fitness center with enough treadmills to keep any fitness and treadmill user happy. A Sears store, wow, haven't seen one in years now. A great video Doomie, (as always, first class, also love your music selections) glad you didn't get run out of the mall. Never know why they do that, unless they think your just there to shoplift, you wouldn't be carrying a camera.
That was taken a while back.
When did you make this video? An open Sears? Really?
Yeah that's what I'm wondering myself, as I thought all the Sears Hometown stores where either closed down, or converted into American Freight stores 🤔
The video was made in 2022
I used to frequent this mall in college for the sports collectibles store there. He's right, the Sears there was somehow still alive until at least winter 2021 when I graduated. Sometimes I wondered if Sears corporate just forgot the place existed and never closed it down.
This whole time I thought Elyria had the only Dunham's. I had no idea it was a chain!
There is one in Findlay as well.
1st
Yes you are🙂
Kinda reminds me of the mall in Madisonville, KY. It's a smaller mall then that but the parking lot is in shambles, 2/3 of the mall is empty stores and it just seems like it's been stuck in the 80s.
This mall is the saddest dead mall I have ever seen on youtube.
Oh they get much, much worse 😁
I believe you that's it's very sad looking but I find the worst of the worst sad malls are when everything is torn apart/things are all over the place inside.
Stick a fork in it.
This is awesome. Thanks for walkin us through such a cool looking mall!!
