I spent summers in the late 70's, all the 80`s and the 90`s in Lake George. We always hit that mall and the Spencer's there. There used to be a CVS in there which was odd to me, but we would buy candy for the movies there.
The Caldor mall court actually had waterfalls. You can clearly see a channel at 4:30. My brother and I used to race dead leafs down them. There was another fountain outside of JCPenney that had a bridge over it. I can still hear the sound it made when you ran across it. You can also see windows that were once part of The Ground Round at 11:05 Free popcorn! Now it's mall offices. 🙄
Thank you Doomie Grunt, Aviation was my hometown mall growing up. Definitely has seen much brighter days. I always try to visit when I’m back in the area to see what’s gone. Several more of these stores have closed since. Ollie’s is still going strong but I too wish they would open up into the mall.
When I lived in the glens falls and lake george region in the early 90’s I hung out in aviation mall a lot(graduated from argyle school in ‘92)I remember going to McDonald’s (where the glass atrium area is when you walked into the mall entrance in the video) I also remember the video arcade too. The food court was the busiest area, I remember dating a girl when I went to Adirondack community college and eating there. lol figured someone would do a video on it when I saw other slowly dying malls being done on RUclips. Sad that the malls heyday seems to be gone. Though I’m glad that the brick atrium area is still there, I used to hang around that area too after going to the bookstore and getting books and it was a nice relaxing area to read. In 1994 I left the area after enlisting in the army and only came home once, and remember walking through the mall with my family while I was on leave. That was the last time I ever stepped in there. While I’m glad the mall is still going, seeing this and other malls that are slowly dying is somewhat depressing. But I remember what it used to be, and will be a memory I will always have. Thanks for doing this video as I was curious as to how the mall looks today. 🙂
@@DoomieGruntVentures I know they are now missing sears and bon ton at minimum and those wings are probably dead. Food court has been mostly dead for years but cinemas are open still. Fountain exists but is a shadow of how it used to be. Sister mall is rotterdam square and it's probably in worse shape, I made a video on that one a few years ago.
Living about 5 min from Aviation I learned from older coworkers some or all of the planters in the Ollie's area were water features. My family, especially my son, loves your channel Doomie. Keep up the good work!
All the anchor stores at this mall do Ollie 's is the only store where it is straight up blocked off when I worked in that mall at an anchor store we had to have the mall gate open at 9 during the week and 10 on Sunday
I was there at the grand opening in 1975 and proceeded to spend 6 years there. We would walk over after school. Arcade, pizza and movie. They would let us kids just "hang out". Without the mall, where would we get our CB radios..
Did maintenance at this mall during my very early 20’s. If this was shot in 2020, I was there around the time this video came out. Probably one of the best jobs I’ve ever had, quiet, dead mall where you could slip out to read a book or smoke a cigarette. Miss this place a lot. It’s Glen(S) Falls, by the way
This mall has changed a lot in the last 12 years. Lots of things I remember being in there are gone. Only a few things remain in the mail from when I was last in there. Such as Spencer's, auntie Anne's, Dick's, Target, Regal and the jewelers. Everything else is new GNC moved. The food court is a joke you can eat Chinese food or pretzels. The arcade was there but is under a new name. As a kid in the early 2ks I remember what everything was and where it was. Change is inevitable but sad to see my childhood mall dead I watched this as I wanted to see what was in there. I moved across the country 12 years ago to CA. Anyway thanks for walking me through the mall what's left of it anyway.
I'm originally from Queensbury and I spent many years in this mall since Claire was a earring store and the store next to it was a Kay Bee Toys and the garden area where the Caldor use to be is where we use to play a lot.
I remember going to the aviation mall with my mom when my dad worked at the former wenu and we used to walk the mall and shop. And walk back to the hotel next to the mall. The former Howard Johnson brings back memories. The last time I was in the aviation mall was 1992.
I remember the Caldor atrium with the fountains, the CVS, the original JCPenney, there were other fountains inside the mall as well, the McDonald’s, Mr Bee’s subs, DEB, Belden Jeweler’s original location all in burgundy carpets
The mirror wall in the food court used to be expanded seating and an upper level mall office. Target demolished it and mall office moved to the former mcdonald's. Taco bell was left of the mirror.
I loved the greenery and style of the Ollie's wing of the mall (the planters do look like they could have been a fancy and elaborate water feature)…if that style is a hint of what the Aviation Mall once looked like in its entirety, I would have loved to have seen it in its heyday.
This mall is a blend of different eras all in one building. It is really awesome that they have been able to keep that Ollie's court as is. With that being said, there are a fair amount of vacancies. Ollie's not opening up to the mall is not helping. About half of the mall has anchors and the other half has the vacant Sears and Ollie's. Well done on this video.
That last stretch on your way out, looked to have been shorted on the remodeling budget, no attempt @ style - Concur on your feelings of Ollie's court, very nice (those exterior brick planter runways probably housed a fountain)
Great video. I love the old world vibes in Aviation mall as well, it takes me back. Great simple, elegant geometry and brickwork. I am not a big fan of the more recent updates to this mall though. Please check out Rotterdam Square mall. It is my favorite mall in the area. There is so much history there. There is an old historic cemetery at one of the entrance ways, a newer aquarium addition from the new owners, Sea Life mural, state offices, center fountain, theater, BMX track a mile or so up the road, near historic General Electric, etc. This was and will always be my favorite mall in the area, it has the most nostalgia for me. Such history, I will truly miss the old shops, old classic arcade, and carousel.
Hey Doomie, what was the name of the song at the beginning of this video, I can't find it anywhere, but I like it, can you please let me know, thank you
My moms friends sister came down to visit and she lives near here, and we were all talking about dead malls and retail stores, and she had mentioned this mall, and I was like oh shit I know abt that, because I’m obsessed with researching dead malls and retail lol

As far as your views on the future of malls let me interject with some of the things that have disappeared in my lifetime. Telephone operators, full service gas stations drive-in movie theaters for the most part, listening to AM radio and also FM radio for the most part. The point I'm making here is that malls in your lifetime are probably going to disappear because of online shopping and Amazon. Another thing that my generation called gossips has been repurposed into social media influencers. Eventually money may disappear to where everything is done with a piece of plastic and having forbid if there's ever an EMP that will completely wipe out the internet and banking as a whole and also please remember yard sales because if you do become a cashless society I can't envision people getting scanners for a cell phone to sell an item for $25 or a dollar. This is no criticism on any generation because with all generations things disappear. My grandparents did not have luxuries like air conditioning and for heat it was either coal burning furnaces or pot bellied stoves in fact in 1966 in the hills and hollers of Kentucky while on vacation we saw a line about 100 yards long of people standing in front of my great uncle's house waiting to go inside one at a time and we didn't know what for but we got in line and when we finally got inside we saw what the line was for. Everyone was taking a turn to flush a toilet because he was the first one up there to have indoor plumbing. Nice video and posting so keep creating 🖖💙✌️👍👍
Sick and tired seeing them amazon prime trucks the world is going down people are being played with and they dont see it so nice going out shooping being happy no they dont want that they want you inside so they live their miserible ritch lifes .
My god. Present today, Victorias Secret, Pink, Claire’s,Jonathan Reid, American eagle, zales, the candy store and a couple more stores are closed
Doomie Kay Jewlers closed! There’s 10 brand name stores left in the mall :(
My mom used to work at merry go round on the right of the Seats entrance. That mall used to be hoppin.
Thanks dude great video you just made my day.
Love the work you put into your videos

The unique architecture is very reminiscent of Pyramid's Champlain Centre South in Plattsburgh, NY, from 1975.
Ahh how did I miss this. Have you seen Wilton too? Probably not "dead enough" but not sure, I haven't been back in years.
I am aware of Wilton, but I am unable to fit it in any travel plans I have at this time.

Great video from the Dead Mall King like always
Sometimes I think part of a rental agreement for anchor tenants should be that they have to open their mall entrances.
Agreed!
All the anchor stores at this mall do Ollie 's is the only store where it is straight up blocked off when I worked in that mall at an anchor store we had to have the mall gate open at 9 during the week and 10 on Sunday
They really could do more with this space.

The caldor court used to have running water, it was replaced with plants for some reason.
kids were falling in the fountains
You're not far from Diamond Run Mall in Rutland, VT. I think that mall actually closed within the last year
I covered Diamond Run Mall within days of its closure. Immediately after, I swung by Aviation. Was a neat mall even in its final days.
@@DoomieGruntVentures just watched it. Thank you for that one. That mall was something special in its heydey

Good luck to you too!
The caldors wing had a massive fountain where ever the greenery is was water at least 7 fountains
6:58 former Justice spotted, I think
They used to have a justice but it was on the other side of the mall
Wow, that Caldor court was something else. I have seen very few mall courts that beautiful.
It makes me sad when replacement anchors close off the mall access. It also makes me sad that the food court is almost empty.

There did used to be a water fountain years ago in the mall I live in upstate ny and can answer questions for you.😊
My aunt and uncle lived in Glens Falls, New York, and we used to drive up there to visit them back in the 1970s.
This mall was the best in the 80's and 90's
That's my home town
In the 80s it was awesome...

Go to Champlain centre mall in PLATTSBURGH new York that's my local mall and it's owned by pyramid Corp as well
Did that used to be a fountain
This mall started dying around 2007 2008 I think.

I was there a week ago. A lot more empty spaces a very depressing place compared to what it was long ago
Cool mall doomie you need to hit the Coventry mall it is really dying
I do have footage on Coventry Mall from 2019. However, I have heard that all the gains they were making in 2019 were wiped out by 2020.
It has its gotta worse and the roof leaks really bad

Lot of empty spaces. When did you take this video? It looks like fall by the color on the trees and I don't see anybody wearing a mask
Just assume it was recorded before March 2020.
We're not fans of the mask up here so you're only going to see sheeple wearing them.
Ollies is by no means a classy store, a better anchor would be much better. It doesn't look good for this mall, not exactly much traffic.
Ollie's is an outparcel beside my hometown mall. It moved into an old Circuit City building. It's a great discount store but it always looks a mess
That's probably why you can't access Ollie's from the mall interior. They don't want patrons in the concourse to see a big mess.
