Thanks for the video! I normally use this for being able to lock the car whilst the engine is running (to warm up), or just so my keys don't rattle on the dashboard as I drive around
I think the main reason for this feature is when it's very cold outside you can start the car to warm it up but still be able to lock the car so knowbody car drive it off.
Definitely not insured to leave car unattended with engine running but it’s damned convenient on cold mornings if you’re kitchen window faces the driveway ...commenting for a friend 😉
You can still warm your car up and lock your car while leaving the key fob in, just take the key that goes in the fob and lock the door. If your car is running it can be jacked (with or without fob...unless theres some sort of key fob distance to the car). But I did that for about 6 months then the key/battery light came on, then I stopped. The slot charges your key fob while youre driving. If I'm wrong then I'm wrong, but I'm still new to all of it.
Only works with UK and US BMW. It's there so a vallet service can park your car without you leaving the key behind. In Eastern and Northern Europe it's unusual to find a vallet.
No disrespect but that doesn't make any sense. Seems it would disrupt the normal flow of the valet system of handing valet keys or leave keys in car, get ticket number, return to valet with ticket number, get in car with keys already in it. Also the BMWs comes with a valet key that doesn't have access to certain features (trunk, glove box etc). I will admit Im not sure if it is standard for a new BMW to come with key fobs and a valet key, nor have I ever used valet before. Again no disrespect, and I am new to BMW so I don't mind being 100% wrong. I will check BMW manual at some point because some of the suggestions in the comments also dont make any sense.
@@uncommonsense_3602 My research of looking at videos on youtube and driving multiple European e9x BMW conclude that it's only on NA versions. Small sample size leaves room for coinsidences.

Would that probably only work on manuals as you can't select a gear in the automatics without the key being in the slot ? Or on the older style ZF6s anyways.
Basically it does require u to shut the door. Its def for warming up. Takes ages to warm up. And if not warmed up the design of this car reaults in death to car and get ready to throw money in every direction. Warm the fucker up.locked and safe. Then drive somewhere and forget the key which can suck. Yeah it takes that long u already changed and forgot the key altogether. Turn around get the key so u can enter your own car
no, the car will power down after a while. These things are quite smart. With my 2010X5 if there is no movement after about 20 minutes the car makes that annoying beep for about 30 seconds then powers down. Shuts off all lights and everything. I am a new owner so I don't really know much about BMWs but they seem pretty smart if a bit finiky.
@@Thee60garage I actually bought it for real cheap because it wasn't running. I fixed the tranny myself. Then fixed the engine my self as well. Ha ha- the car jacking feature is so you can drive keyless in a rough area and if someone - pulls you out of your car they can drive it but when then stop that can’t re-start it. Not so someone can try and steal your key & you can get away lol 😂

Got error message this morning : remote control not in ignition. I changed the fob battery but still the same issue. Do you think it may be the key reader? The car is e92
Finally, the problem was in wireless charger for my phone. I placed it near the key reader which caused some sort of interference. Saved £80 for new key and £20 key reader. Do not buy cheap crap wireless chargers, they are slow and plastic is noisy and causing interference
This is dumb. You need a working key fob. But for 15 seconds you can start your car. The title of your video says" How to start your BMW WITHOUT the key". You still NEEDED the key to start it. How about you rename your video on how to start your car before 15 seconds after removing the key.
I really don't think that's the reason. The real reason i think is so you can warm up your car in cold weather without leaving the key inside the car with it unlocked.
