I used to have 2 x 1,5 liter domestic water bottles, 2 x 1 liter canteen and 1 liter thermos with me on one week winter marches. In the morning I boiled water and filled all bottles and thermos with boling water. I carried 1 canteen on the body hanging from a string, the rest I put innside will socks and put in my bergen/ruck. During the day I refillled canteen with snow and hot water. It keept me hydrated all day long. Having a warm bootle inside the jacket made it possible to start marching in just a merino wool layer. At night I had a warm bottle inside the sleeping bag. "Norgeshirt" I never used, its made of cotton and get damp. Its better to use 2 x merino wool layers, or a wool sweater in base camp. During march I dressed in one layer merino wool base layer, combat smock and winter camo. temperatures varied from -5c to -20 celsius. To stay dry, use a clean stiff shoe brush to wipe snow of cloths. The last 20 min of the march before you reach base camp, reduce speed and ventilate to keep warm and dry out clothes. Have a nice one 🙂
Salvaged a rocket pouch to make a bladder pocket that I mount inside bergen/belt order, it's extra padding and means I have at least 1.5L of gtg water when I hit home for the night. 2L bladder reinforced with DT and underfilled so it won't pop under load.
Didn’t hear you mention it but the reason you want 100% merino wool is because wool will stay warm if it gets wet. Other materials once they get wet will suck the heat out of you. Also something I learned from making a stupid mistake, if you’re gonna change your socks in the field change them one at a time. Keeping the one foot insulated while you change the other saves you from losing a ton of heat. Great vid as always.
Really enjoy the great detail that you go into on each topic!! With so many people out there talking about the same topic's, they just don't produce the content that you do!! Thank you for taking the time to make these videos at such great length and detail. Also thank you for your service to your country!! Here from USA! Awesome!👍👍👍👍👍
I cannot emphasize enough about the beanie (toque where I am) as head / ear protection. Vital. Once you get frostbite on your ears, your susceptible to it from now on. Same with finger tips. Use mittens in extreme cold with glove liners. I am also a shemagh dude and recently got a merino blend one from Finland which makes it even more super useful. Also like to emphasize the goretex sock idea. Goretex lined boots will destroy you when they get soaked through (sweat or being submerged), the liner will stretch out and they will take ages to dry. Better to use goretex socks or plastic bags in a water obstacle crossing.
Could you eventually do a video on your crossfire CF2, I’m interested in getting the CF3 to fill in between my medium Alice pack in the summer and my FILBE in the winter and also how to adjust it for belt kit, no one has a video on the new CF packs just the DGs. Thanks so much for these videos. One of the best channels I’ve found on RUclips.
If you can find it Event beats the shit out of any level or type of Goretex, Goretex only breathes when wet. No exception, it is a fact you can research yourself. Goretex has made it very difficult for Event to exist because they know it’s much better. I have used both for many years. I am 50 and I discovered Event about 10 years ago and now it’s all I use in clothing. I am yet to see it in a boot. As far as boots I highly recommend the AKU pilgrim gtx. Fantastic boot. Cheers
the one downside if found event has over goretex is that event requires more care, it definitely needs washed more often, especially in areas like knees and elbows, the goretex seems to keep detritus out a bit better. but I agree, event breathes better.
To be eligible to wear UK " Army Commando" shoulder flashes you would need to of completed and passed the All Arms Commando course at CTCRM In Lympstone in the UK. The U.S doesn't have " Commando units, the nearest thing to a commando would be the 75th Ranger Battalion or maybe USMC recon hope that helps mate Plus it would also be accompanied with a Commando Dagger flash too. If you've ernt your green lid you'd want the world to know. 😊 ask any bootneck!
Decent video bud, but when carrying weight over rough terrain doing distance you only need to wear your smock, no base layers, smock is reasonably windproof and you shouldn't overheat 👌🏻boot wise i cant fault the Danner Ft Lewis 10" high boots, Danners have a wider all round footprint for better stability and excellent tread 👍🏻
Hi m8, I use the German flatmat it packs nicely against my back in Bergen it’s actually the miltec copy and bit thicker and I use it year round no problem, dpm bivibag and defence 4 doss bag sorted in uk, people say there not warm enough for winter but in my sleep system its fine, do you agree m8? I know all the paras use them now as well, thx and enjoying the channel 👍
are you in ukraine or finland? those are the only places i can think of that would have a bunch of old destroyed tanks to take pictures in front of AND would allow you to posess combat rifles.
Another great video
Keep up the good work the knowledge you share is really good and insightful.
Underrated channel right here for sure

Acrylic (Thinsulate) also warms while wet.

Hey mate, are you living here in the states? What region/area? Im curious, the terrain looks familiar.
nice video, what country are you in if you don't mind saying?
If you click on Echo Mike it will take you to the page about him.
are you in ukraine or finland? those are the only places i can think of that would have a bunch of old destroyed tanks to take pictures in front of AND would allow you to posess combat rifles.
Apparently you will start to see your breath at 7 degrees Celsius and below. 😊
How about a nuclear winter? Would the snow be contaminated?
@@robertgreen6027 if you can’t shelter down for 3-6 months after an attack in a bunker or radiation free environment then you’ll be dead
Yeah and some people overestimate the weight of their rucksack...
Wiggy sleeping bags are better.
All good. But man wherever you are isn't that cold. It was -7f before wind today and there is no way we are outside in a jungle hat and casual pants.
It was a beautiful day
If they dont say 'eh' or 'oorah', i simply cant take their winter seriously.
