Just an old bike tube, cut to go once or twice around the handle bar folded up tight and 1 round of black electrical tape. Best mount ever. Cheap, compact, easy to repair, and I never have to take the watch straps off, so I don’t have to store them somewhere during the ride. Just put the watch like you put it on your wrist. (You fold the tube to match the size of the watch strap, so while mounted it can’t even be seen.)
This probably works great for the MIP displays, but just a heads up for anyone looking to do this with an Epix - it doesn't seem to be possible to stop the screen from dimming after the timeout parameter (longest is 15s I believe). For me personally, where I usually ride, the watch screen isn't readable once the screen dims, so I have to reach down and push a button or touch the screen to wake to read, which can be dangerous while mountain biking. I bought an 840 and had issues that led to returning it - bought this and was hoping to use my Epix instead, and it works, but has enough friction that I probably won't be doing it long term. If I had a Fenix still (so the screen would be visible all the time on the handlebars) I'd probably be happy enough with this long term to not be tempted back to a dedicated bike computer.
Des thanks for exploring this... My solution in the past has been to simply wrap an old sock around the handlebars and strap the watch over that. That increases the handle bar diameter and provides padding too.
ALSO !!!!!!! if you double wrap your bar tape all the way to the stem you can just strap the watch directly to the bars. been riding with mine like that for years and its super easy and reduces pretty much any possibility of the watch coming loose.
Thanks for trying the 945 on the quick-snap mount...that definitely answers the question on fit that I couldn't find a straight answer to anywhere else. :)
I just recently purchased this item from Garmin. As much as I love my Garmin Instinct original, I really like the activity display and training metrics my Fenix 6 collects. This way I can this use my Instinct to broadcast my HR to the Fenix on my MTB. Thank you for another great video. You never disappoint.
Ok, that Casio watch 😍 Glad it's getting so much usage. It's interesting that these quickfit bike mounts are slightly different than Garmin's older triathlon quick fit stuff that comes with the tri bundle. I know that the 945LTE not working with that tri quick release system has been a deal breaker for some people. I love that you went down this rabbit hole. Thanks for making this one!!!
Before Garmin had this solution I took and old Fenix 3HR charger, dremeled a bit of the charger port and slabed a quarter turn sticker to it. It fitted very well on my F5X / 6X. Now that this is out I ordered it about a month ago and it's much more elegant.
Thanks so much for posting this! I had one of the "one size fits all" adapters you mentioned as an alternative, but I had no idea these quickfit-specific adapters existed. Count this an affiliate-link purchase well earned :)
What do you think about the screen size and readability compared to a bike computer? I'm also considering a Fenix, because then I could use the same watch for hiking, running and cycling.
45+ here. The advantage of having a watch on your wrist is that it can get as close as possible to your eyes when you are checking the data/maps. On the handlebar, as I do MTB, I find it to be less visible forcing me to get close with my head to the handlebar to check the data, not really ideal. I am old I know.
This is by far the best solution available. Thanks for this super useful video! The next best solution would be getting an Edge and using Extended Display Mode, but at that point you might as well just use the bike computer and connect it to whatever external sensors (i.e. HR straps, cadence, etc.) you have. Would be super cool (and I would pay big $) if Garmin had the same Extended Display Mode but for their iPhone/Android Apps, and also included all data screens in addition to full maps/navigation features like Strava Live Segments and Course Nav. Put an anti-glare screen, and that would literally turn your phone into the most powerful bike computer that has ever existed lol bc you get data from all Garmin sensors and Course navigation in a huge display and you can also control music, have quick access to Google Maps whenever needed, etc.
Spend and Invest are words with different meanings. For instance: You could make an investment in one of a range of devices that pay back in different ways, but cost the same. The value of the investment would vary depending on what you spent. When you drive to the shop you have to pay the parking fee and pay for fuel. That is what you have to spend to get to the shop. Then you would choose e.g. the watch you want to invest in. That should give a payback in health benefits. If you spend money on a health watch, but then don't wear it, your investment will not pay back in health benefits. However, if it appreciates in value and you sell it for a profit, then, I suppose it was a good investment.
The main reason why I changed from cycling computers to wrist bike computers to call it somehow, is because during a mountain bike competition I had a crash and the thing fell off and I didn't notice, lost some bucks there, it was a Polar. Now I have a Garmin Fenix 6 pro and it feels more secure with something strapped to your wrist. I practice road cycling now. Something else with a watch you wont have the risk of someone walking away with your cycling computer while the bike is parked. Anyway thanks for the video, good to know there are all these options.
I did the watch mount for years but this started back when my Polar watches didn’t have HR sensor on the watch. The older models all required a HR strap. I honestly think that the “value” from a Garmin Edge 130 or 530 is almost all the same features as the Fenix but half the price. You just need a HR sensor and of course you won’t get all the off bike data.
Great video Des. It’s to bad that Garmin isn’t giving any love to the Fenix 5X Plus. Thank u for all the hard work u do to make the videos that we all love to learn about
I measured my 5x Plus bar-to-bar (outer sides, no wrist band of course) with a caliper, and it is 54.5mm: can someone tell the same measure from a 6x? This way one can deduct if the 5x is "informally compatible". Thanks!
Because of this video i used my Instinct 2 as a bike computer with the 20mm mount for a whole season. 0 issues and the wiggly he describes really doesn't affect the hold, it's just able to slide side to side! the epix pro does not fit the older quarter turn mount kits, make sure to get a new one (they updated the product number)!
Hi! Thanks for the video! Any idea if it is possible to avoid the Epix to dim to low brightness after a certain timeout (4s, 8s or 15s but not possible to deactivate)? This is super frustrating, especially on a road bike when you use the navigation and cannot see anything without touching the screen or pressing a button; at full speed it becomes dangerous.
Bike computer not needed. Quad lock makes a great case and mount so you can mount your smart phone to your handlebars. This also alleviates me having to carry my phone in my pockets. iPhone GPS is also super accurate. Combine with Ride with GPS or Cadence App and you're set.
Hi Des. Nice video. When you have the Epix mounted like that, is the screen easy enough to see? I am not sure if it dims to the low brightness setting when the raise function is not activated when mounted.
Yeah nice Video,I just started MTB and I dont have a bike computer. My main focus is navigation, can I ue a Watch for that ? Im not interested in all the numbers (yet)
I was using the Garmin solution strapped on to my MTB handlebars. Unfortunately, I took a minor tumble that sent my Fenix flying off the handle. Fortunately, I was able to find it but the rubber straps (from the kit) aren’t a secure as a stem mounted option.
What is your thoughts on this on a dirt bike? The reason I ask is the vibration! Do you think the vibration would cause issues? Or if the quick fit would be man enough to keep hold of the device. Thank you
Nice video! I purchased for my Fenix 3 and fits perfectly! The only problem that I suffer since I installed is that the watch doesn’t get the altitude of the training, something that doesn’t do while I wear the Fenix on the wrist. I recalibrated the altitude sensor, but doesn’t work. Anyone with the same problem?
I run my phone on a quadlock head unit mount with the supercycle app, my Fenix watch on my stem (road bike) with a mount like you have Des and to my watch I have a varia radar and avaria vision paird. No need for a bike computer.
Well my edge 130 has a lanyard which gives peace of mind. I unexpectedly got a great deal on assiomos duo which 130 handles only uno so I use my Fenix 5S. 5S is a bit small for old guy who needs bifocals. Waiting to see if a new release of bike computers will entice me or maybe a larger Fenix 7.
The lanyard does provide peace of mind, for sure. 👍 I've literally only had two incidents when a bike computer has fallen off but it definitely can happen.
Hello. Please make a comparison between wahoo tickr fit vs polar verity sense. This is what is missing from your channel. Why do you think Wahoo and Polar don't add SpO2 to their products? For many it is important. ,-.
Hi Des. I do have a question for you. Have you ever considered testing all the footpods, the new HRM Pro+ etc, to see their accuracy and who is the most accurate? I was just curious. Just wanted to throw that out there.
Thank you for the awesome info. Can you elaborate how Garmin Connect would handle data collection if we were to use both a watch and a Edge device? I currently run a Edge 530 with a HRM-Pro chest strap, with a Epix 2 on the way. I understand Physio Trueup will enable syncing, but is it smart enough to prioritize the best measurement of each? For example Im a MTB'r I therefore use the Edge for jump tracking, flow, grit, Strava segment tracking, and of course the HRM-Pro for HR. If i now add the Epix to the mix will I be able to also get live PulseOx (VO2 Max), PacePro, Real-Time Stamina etc. Yes I like data :) Do you use the screen mirror function? Which is best to set as primary etc.
I'm getting a feeling that in combination with how they don't play well together and my own completely conspiracy theory of an upcoming new Garmin Ege device that will better interface with the current watches we won't get a clear cut answer.
Great video...but, unless you are doing a zero cost option, wouldn't you be better of by tracking everything (including heart rate) with the watch on your wrist and just buying one of the cheapest GPS (or non-GPS) bike computers for your bike display? Works out same price as some of the mount adaptors (and cheaper if you have to buy heart rate strap), all whilst having better on bike visibility and maintaining all watch metrics?
I think only with a solution where you use the watch strap to put it around your steering wheel, but that works fine as well. I'm also using this watch for cycling including (simple breadcrum) navigation.
So, I just got on to find an answer to this long-shot question. My Epix recommends cycling workouts based on my training status. Does anyone know if there is a way for those workouts to be added to Zwift or another app?
I don’t have any Fenix 5 watches around so I can’t verify, but they aren’t listed as being compatible so I’m unsure if the lug to lug distance would work.
What I would really need for this use case is a Strap that continues under the watch, with a cutout for the sensor, so I can pop out the watch, but still keep the strap on my wrist. It's quite annoying otherwise.
Hi Des!!! I was actually since Sunday in the look of a solution/option to have to take my hands out of the handlebars to check my cadence and such, all because I’m riding in the early mornings when is still dark. This brings me to my question, have you tried out on a Fénix 3 HR Sapphire? I would greatly appreciate it! That would bring life to my old and neglected Fénix. THANKS!
The Fenix 3 HR isn't compatible with the QuickFit Quarter Turn mount accessory due to a different lug to lug distance but you could use that other accessory which wraps around the handlebars to mount your 3HR. Thanks and happy riding!
Hi! I’ve been using my 3HR for many years with a strap on mount as Des mentioned, it works but not always visible in certain lighting and angles. I’m considering the Edge 130 at $199.
Hello! Regarding your video on Garmin quarter turn bike mounts (20mm, 22mm, 26mm), I would like to know if Forerunner 745 can fit in either 20mm or 22mm mount?
another great, informative video Des. doe these mounts feel sturdy and secure to you, to trust them on mtb rides? devices like Garmin Edges can use additional strap to secure device to the mount, so it doesn't fly off when you crash. would you trust these mounts on rough terrain?
They snap into place very tightly. There is still the chance of the watch becoming detached though. I'm not sure of a way of attaching a tether like the bike computer but you do bring up a very good point. Thanks!
If Garmin would include the feature and give you the ability to connect to the Shimano Di2 electronics I would be sold in a heartbeat on possibly the EPIX Sapphire 47. I am going to be replacing my Edge 830 soon but I don't care for the newer 40 series bike computers. I guess for obvious reasons Garmin wouldn't do that because the want to sell bike computers too.
@@DesFit Thanks. I did find that same answer on DC Rainmaker's website, however, It is a better idea to use a dedicated bike computer because the watch has an AMOLED display and burn in will happen from doing longer rides if the display is steady on.
I use exclusively my watch (with mount and sensors) for bike computer. My question is new epix is good for distances over 150km? what is your experience ? Thanks
I am biking for ages and never with bike computer but with the watch that is mounted on proper mount on the wheel. And no, I don't use maps. In case I am lost, my phone is always with me and with google saying when and where I need to turn (having earphones on) I am super ok with the watch. Btw Assioma pedals are working super nice with 735xt so heart rate monitor belt. Actually I am using the watch with the belt, so when I stop for coffee I can always take the watch on my wrist again ;)
Is all this good enough for my motorcycle? Does the navigation be good enough for that? I had my hands on a BeeLine Moto for my bike and want to buy a Smartwatch. If it will work with vibrations and the Navigation is great aswell, i would buy it asap!
Interesting video. I just checked: I have a Garmin Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar and a Garmin HRM Pro and apparently it is impossible to connect the HRM to two devices at the same time. So if you want to use the HRM Pro on your Fenix then, which bike GPS should you get then, since it doesn't need to be connected to the HRM strap? So actually the bike GPS should only be used for the maps.
Hmm, I connect my HRM Pro/Pro Plus to multiple devices via ANT+ on a daily basis (Garmin or otherwise). Are you connecting via bluetooth and possibly having a connection with your phone at the same time?
@DesFit No. I don't have a bike computer. I just googled and it said the HRM Pro can not connect to multiple devices at the same time. It must be connected to the Fenix 7 via Ant+ since theFenix is connected to my phone via BT. I was just wondering which bike computer is the best for mais and connecting to the Garmin Connect app only then. The 1040 must definitely be too much. Touchscreen is not necessary either. The 130 might be to basic, no? 530 or 540 then maybe?
I'm curious if anyone has made native out front mount for these watches, not an adapter. Seems odd that there are 2 bars in the quick fit system that seem secure and robust, that they just mount the flimsy quarter turn tabs via an adapter, also increasing the stack height. Anyone already doing that or do I have to build my own as usual 😆
It comes with a quarter turn mount for your handlebar like you can see at 3:52. Then there are tons of other kinds of quarter turn mounts that are available depending on your application.
Yup, the Tactix can pair to any power meter that has ANT+ or BT (which the SRAM has). You can then add tons of different types of power related data fields like power, average power, 3 second average power, normalized power, etc… The list goes on and on! Thanks
last time i rode with the Epix the screen went bright with every vibration on the handlebars, which means constantly, some advice to circumvent that? Because that must eat battery...
@@Bombolotska On my Epix 2 it is always on but not with full brightness, so it will dim after the selected timeout. I think they only turn on every second pixel and move these to prevent burn-in. It only it on full brightness when I touch it or press a button. So I wouldn't worry too much. Usually the dimmed display is bright enough to see the information on the bike.

Whats the reference of the item? Would it work with FR955?
Thanks so much for posting this! I had one of the "one size fits all" adapters you mentioned as an alternative, but I had no idea these quickfit-specific adapters existed. Count this an affiliate-link purchase well earned :)
Thanks so much, Mark! Enjoy!
I've used my Fenix 6 like this for a few years; I bought a c. $20 Garmin bike mount for it, and works nicely.

what happened with the word 'spend' ..everybody says "invest" for some reason

Any chance those quick fits would work with a Fenix 3 with the bars without a band ?
What I would really need for this use case is a Strap that continues under the watch, with a cutout for the sensor, so I can pop out the watch, but still keep the strap on my wrist. It's quite annoying otherwise.
Not a bad idea
Those straps exist for Fenix watches.
Is that really a Casio calculator watch on your wrist?
is the garmin 955 compartible to any quickmount?
did you know the answer ?
Yes or no?
Great video! Would the quick fit solution work with Polar Grit X watches?
I would like to know if the Garmin Instinct 2 can be used in this way and is thier a dedicated mtb bike watch holder for it? Thanks 😊
Excellent work my friend 👍 new friend here 😊Thank you very much for sharing 👍
Sure thing
Thanks!
Can the forerunner 945 do the same thing?
Do the new the 965 / 265 work?
Will those mounts work with the Samsung watches?
Nope
That mount can fit or work for fénix 5 with 22mm
Can the watch pair to my ebike or sram axs system?
If I use this setup, would Garmin fall detection still work?
If Garmin would include the feature and give you the ability to connect to the Shimano Di2 electronics I would be sold in a heartbeat on possibly the EPIX Sapphire 47. I am going to be replacing my Edge 830 soon but I don't care for the newer 40 series bike computers. I guess for obvious reasons Garmin wouldn't do that because the want to sell bike computers too.
The Epix connects to Shimano Di2 unless I’m not understanding the query correctly
@@DesFit Thanks. I did find that same answer on DC Rainmaker's website, however, It is a better idea to use a dedicated bike computer because the watch has an AMOLED display and burn in will happen from doing longer rides if the display is steady on.
does the fenix 3 saphire hr fit in this?
I use exclusively my watch (with mount and sensors) for bike computer. My question is new epix is good for distances over 150km? what is your experience ? Thanks
Should work just fine with 20+ hours of GPS recording time.
Also had issues with past Fenix/Forerunner with routing tours above 120/150km.. is that still an issue with Fenix7/Epix @Des?
@@DesFit You speak for epix right ?
@@StefanoGirolimetto what problem you have with fenix in the past? I never had any problem with fenix line and my bike.
@@Panagiotis-Skordilis yup, Epix has 20+ hours of GPS recording time depending on GPS settings
So it won’t work with my Forerunner 965, how frustrating!
For me, and maby other YT, will it fit other brands like Polar or Suunto?
I am biking for ages and never with bike computer but with the watch that is mounted on proper mount on the wheel. And no, I don't use maps. In case I am lost, my phone is always with me and with google saying when and where I need to turn (having earphones on) I am super ok with the watch. Btw Assioma pedals are working super nice with 735xt so heart rate monitor belt.
Actually I am using the watch with the belt, so when I stop for coffee I can always take the watch on my wrist again ;)
Glad your 735XT/Assioma combo is working well for you!
@@DesFit just screen is too small and I am not able to use 3 fields anymore - getting older ;-)
Will this also work en useable for a motorcycle?
Is all this good enough for my motorcycle? Does the navigation be good enough for that? I had my hands on a BeeLine Moto for my bike and want to buy a Smartwatch. If it will work with vibrations and the Navigation is great aswell, i would buy it asap!
The navigation on this device will include bike paths and pedestrian trails so not really.
That mount fits on a garmin fenix 3 hr?
For cycling/hiking best choice is gps, glonass or galileo?
Kind of depends on the region where you live. If you're having an issue with one setting, try another to see if that yields better results.
Can u tell which k edge product have u suggested for mounting it on the stem?
@DesFit
No.
Great video Des. Can you check if it fits on Fénix 5X Plus?
Unfortunately it doesn’t. The lug distance is different. Sorry but thanks!
@@DesFit thank you for the swift reply.
Ok. How do you mount that thing in the handle bar? Do we need to purchase any additional parts to mount it?
It comes with a quarter turn mount for your handlebar like you can see at 3:52. Then there are tons of other kinds of quarter turn mounts that are available depending on your application.
is it possible to pair garmin tactix with sram crank powermeter? which datafield should i use? thank you
Yup, the Tactix can pair to any power meter that has ANT+ or BT (which the SRAM has). You can then add tons of different types of power related data fields like power, average power, 3 second average power, normalized power, etc… The list goes on and on! Thanks
Nice! I wonder if the Coros Apex Pro will fit too?
The Apex Pro doesn't have the thicker pins/bars needed for this type of setup unfortunately.
does this work on the venu 3 too or doesnt this one have maps installed
The Venu 3 uses industry standard bands which don't work with this QuickFit accessory.
@@DesFit but if i manage to fit ut to the bike, would it work? 🤔
Can I use Fenix 3HR with quickfit?
what settings to you recommend for a bike ride with the epix? Activate always-on display and deactivate gesture during activity?
last time i rode with the Epix the screen went bright with every vibration on the handlebars, which means constantly, some advice to circumvent that? Because that must eat battery...
@@Bombolotska On my Epix 2 it is always on but not with full brightness, so it will dim after the selected timeout. I think they only turn on every second pixel and move these to prevent burn-in. It only it on full brightness when I touch it or press a button. So I wouldn't worry too much.
Usually the dimmed display is bright enough to see the information on the bike.
Do the ones on the Apex also work on Pace 3s?
