Global Symphony Orchestra outdoor concert 寰宇交響樂團互外音樂會- Thanks the conductor Mr Mak Ka Lok's trust on me to perform the violin solo part of Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld Overture. My playing was dedicated to my previous teacher Mr Sze Kwok Wan Patrick who helps and witness my transition from engineer to musician.
I have lots of memories with my teacher. I first met him when I joined the Hong Kong Youth String (music office). He is the conductor and director of the orchestra. At that time I already graduated my degree in chemica envirnmental engineering at HKUST. I was chosen to attend the string orchestra tour in Kagoshima in Japan and after the tour I seriously decide to change my field to music (violin performance). Mr Sze encorage me to study in Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts and refer me to the string department head Mr Ma. I have to re-learn playing violin and it was not an easy journey for me. Though, I enjoy it so much and I met my United State teacher Professor Wanchi Huang from Curtis Juilliard and Indiana through Mr Sze. Then I went to New York to participate in the summer camp, and afterward I went to Philly to visit a violin professor Helen Kwalwasser in Temple University, referred by Mr Sze. She gave me a very negative feedback and ask Mr Sze to offer me lessons for working on my certain technical weakness when arrive back hk…Of course I improve a lot and prepare for the audition of Master programme in US instead of spending time for a degree at HKAPA, so I changed to study Advanced Diploma for just focusing on practising.
When I got accepted at JMU with full scholarship, I can learn and practice violin a lot. Because the place is just a farmland, nothing can distact me.
I felt very bored and homesick if not because of Pastor Lau and Auntie Mei, very good friends of Mr Sze. Their church and place just 2hours drive from my school and close to Washington DC. It was my hk family in US when I miss hk food and home.
Mr Sze usually like to have lunch or dinner together after the lesson. I love to listen to what he said. His topic usually just about music, sometimes may be keep repeating😁but I’m ok because I learn a lot from him. I remember he said you need to be like a ruler, know how to measure your ability. I interpet it as always be humble and keep growing, don’t be afraid of accepting challenge in your life. Everyday is new.
I got many opportunities through his referral. Without his help, I really can’t be like this today… Thanks so much indeed Mr Sze! May the Lord comfort his family, students and friends.
Glad that you already surrender to the Lord. We will meet in the heaven… RIP🕊️We all love you and miss you❤️
