For all those comments wondering what the status of a new version of this amp is, I contacted Dave at Fryette on a different topic and we talked about the UL, and this is what he said, "We are hard at work on the new version of the UL, but Covid made it take a lot longer than planned"

      @@skullkrusher4418 vht is now fryette. The pitbull ultra lead was their flagship model and has a very dry sound. You have to dig in to really get the saturation you’d normally hear in a Mesa or evh. What the OP said about chordal clarity is absolutely true. Hearing a vht/freyette in person is like nothing you’ve ever heard.

      @@skullkrusher4418 synergy makes a module for the Ultra Lead. Steven Fryette himself assisted with the design. Could be worth checking out. Preamp is $400 or so. Doesn’t beat the original 120 watt head but the character is there. These amps do have a “edge” button that adds saturation but I keep mine disengaged.
      The active eq really shines too. Fryette has said that is responds well to the nuances of each instrument. He’s a true master. It’s not for everyone, very unforgiving with how you play similar to a classic Hiwatt.

It ate the Mark III for breakfast. I thought it had a much more interest variety of gain textures and a better tone to boot. It's not my favorite high gain amp. That would be the Soldano SLO. But it's one of the best every built. I play jazz fusion so I don't use this level of gain, but I love an amp that can do this. It's like going pedal to the metal in a Ferrari on the Autobahn.

      Kevin Armstrong That is the sound of an UL unboosted. You don't need to put a pedal in front of one. They are pretty much the tighest metal/rock amp you can get. Channel 3 of the vh4 is super tight as well.....but that is alot more $$$.

    good player, great amps, so hard to sort out what makes up your great tone. what do you feel you get out of your Arcane Alnico 8 humbucker that a stock les paul hum bucker would not provide?

    • @RezaMatix
      @RezaMatix  4 года назад +3

      huge difference. gibson stock pickups are horrible to me. Alnico 8 is a very strong magnet, it keeps the low end very tight, lots of harmonics and plenty of output.

      The VHT fat bottom cab with the eminence speaker is what is stiff, the UL through a MESA cab with vintage 30's is how I like it best at 8 ohm.

    • @XMetalChefX
      @XMetalChefX 6 лет назад

      Its because of the Fat bottom cabs. They are designed to have no alterior speaker excursion or cabinet involvement other than your volume. Theae amps are extremely tight yes, but with a v30, or greenback they get chunky. UNEARTH used these through 1960B cabs if I remember correctly. I only played one in the store a while back I couldnt beleive how tight it was at full gain. Just a crushing amp. ONLY caveat to it is no matter how you set it your tone is front and center in the jam room. So if you want that easily blended tone of say a mesa, that wont happen with this lol.

    • @SluggerStark
      @SluggerStark 6 лет назад +1

      WOTUFAKA! Super chuggy? The Ultra lead. It is tighter and naturally had a bigger low end and darker tone. With the 6 band eq, you can make this thing chug like no other amp.

  • @flexyofacechase1786
    @flexyofacechase1786 6 лет назад +2

    I had an ultra lead for 10+ years and then a sig:x that I still have, I wish there were something out on the market now that was like an evolution from these heads. I still crave new tones. It doesn't seem like there is any head on the market that is taking the metal torch and pushing shit to the next level. What do you think is good that's been released in the last 10 years? That has high gain, but a different voicing than this type of VHT tone?
