    Why was the decision made to replace the maple with the pine? It seemed like it provided a nice level of depth in the garden and movement. I am also curious about spreading the charcoal among the moss. Does that create a dark backdrop for the moss, or does it help with its growth?

    Hello! Thank you for these beautiful videos! I have two questions: Is the charcoal solely decorative? And is the dark material they spread over the moss and watered in a type of soil?

      Charcoal is usually applied to the area under the eaves where rain falls to prevent mud feathering, but in this case it is a decorative feature.
      In this case, the black soil is spread for various purposes, including to provide nutrients and prevent drying.

    I know this video is now a year old and that you're likely traveling. It is unlikely you'll have an answer to my question, but I'll try anyway! Do you know what type of stone was used for the "sea"/drainage of the tsukubai? I am trying to source a similar stone and am having trouble finding something that will work!

    Sencillo y hermoso, felicitaciones. Sólo una consulta, ¿Porqué el Chozubachi no tiene surtidor de agua?.

    • @JapaneseGardenTV
      @JapaneseGardenTV  2 года назад

      Los chozubachi se utilizan para lavarse las manos.
      En este caso, cuando se celebra una fiesta del té, se vierte agua fresca en el Chozubachi en ese momento.

    What did you put on top of the Moss was that a soil or was that more of a stone mixture and is that the whole the moss in place

      Should say hold the Moss in place

      It has various roles, such as to provide nutrients and to prevent drying out.

    Again a very relaxing great video. Only I do not quite understand the function of the last stone on the wall. Is it there to be able to climb into the room? With kimono I imagine the last step but almost impossible.

    • @JapaneseGardenTV
      @JapaneseGardenTV  2 года назад

      The last stone acts like a staircase to enter the room.
      I will try to take a video of the actual use of this garden someday.

    • @peterpan7903
      @peterpan7903 2 года назад

      @@JapaneseGardenTV Thank you for the quick reply. I'm sure I can't judge it as well as you can, but in the video the height difference from the last stone into the room, looks very high for a woman wearing a kimono.
      By the way, I have been to Japan twice and I liked it very much.

    Why smother the moss by adding dirt afterwards? I typically see the landscapers of this channel add the dirt/clay first then the moss.

    are these charcoal logs for water purification or is it a decorative element?

      In Japanese gardens, charcoal is sometimes placed where rain falls to prevent mud from splashing. In this case, it is used for design purposes.
