This will never stop, until the poachers are held accountable...serious jail time...and it's almost always a suspended sentence, a small fine, or community service. Corruption at the upper levels of the gov't keep any meaningful sentence from being given out...infuriating!!!

In the 16th Century there were 50 million Elephants.
Today. Less than 1 % remain.
Persia had wild Elephants. They were eradicated by human settlements.
India has no wild Elephants left that are free to roam.
    Africa is the last stand.

Not really. Persia was the first area to eradicate wild Elephants and the extinction happened approx. between the 6th and 16th Century and the trade went to Rome ( former Europe ) 50 million Elephants were alive. Today, less than 1 % remain.
