Aside from being an awesome bricklayer, I must congratulate on your filming and editing skills. I don't know much about that art, but I suspect there's probably a million ways this video could have been boring as fuck but it isn't. The effort pays and your videos are very relaxing and enjoyable to watch.
Well as an old retired plumber myself who loved messing around with the bricks and blocks i thought it was brilliant ,your a veru skilled man cheers for the video, loved it,.
Greetings from Maryland, USA. Excellent work. My father was a very skilled brick layer also. I'm an old man now, but when I reflect back I am amazed at some of the brick work I saw him do. It's a rare skill anymore.
Dude! I am brand new to your channel and it is seriously the best! I've been looking for A WHILE for a good channel to learn brick work and this is just amazing. Thank you SO MUCH for this content.
Thanks - such a great video. I’ve been building a block work outbuilding having never done it before, and have just added a 900 mm round opening which will have a window inside. Watched your video 10 times to figure out how to make the circle - never laid a brick in my life! Just been out to check it this morning and it’s all in one piece - thanks for the clear and mercifully brief instructions. Keep up,the good work.
The artistry of the video, the music, and the build on point! Best video!!!! Cutting bricks, we use a quicky saw here, but I would love to buy a BT brick saw.
Thanks Eric. I am very happy with how the video turned out. I am finding the chop saw and large grinder a bit too fiddly. Just cant get the cuts perfect. A few people are saying BT saws are good.
Great work Rodian. I have been a fan of your channel for years now. Im a bricklayer from Australia and everyone has a BT Engineering Brick saw over here.
You are good really good and your brick work are why your true fans are here,I watch all your videos and learnt alot I like watching your page grow with subscribers.
I find that in pretty much every decorative build there is a large element of geometry. Definitely a challenging build but very happy with how it turned out 😁👍🏻
Great craftsmanship! Best to size within brick coursing, see bottom aligned in coursing vs top not aligned with coursing. Additionally, bottom mortar joint better to have been staggered with brick coursing and horizontal mortar joint to have been aligned with brick coursing. Always size and coordinate to align with brick coursing.
Love the channel . I’m an Irish Brickie and just bought the London wide NELA trowel . Maybe you could review it . I’m in love with it . Also maybe just an idea you could do a twisted / spiral chimney layout . We have a few of them on the houses near me and they are a bit Ott but the mrs loves them . Thanks in advance
Great video as always mate. Love that you cut all the halves around the circle instead of having big joints. Here in the US some bricklayers won’t take the time to cut them and they look like shit. If it’s a big enough circle you might be able to get away with it but still looks bad
WOW! That is Brilliant! I don't know if I could bring myself to tear that down. But, you obviously do tear it down. How do you do it? How long does it take to tear it down?
Bricks laid wages paid! I think this might be the best video yet, as far as content, I do wish you could’ve done more close ups ( but I loved it as it was) of laying out and cutting the brick. Jolly good!!!! Cheers, Jamie
I cut all my brick with a wet saw, dry each off and use the first one as a template, and make them all at once. now I don't know what's left in my storage I think I need a plug for my wet saw, but I'll grab a 16 inch one to.depending on how many cuts I have to make, if I'm doing a patio ill cut as needed with the 16 inch,i always score a little deep..bring the saw to the rear and sink it,
Looks great, I'm a DIYer and really enjoy your videos. How would that work with a cavity wall, would you just repeat the process on the inner skin and use a cavity filler for the gap?
Pretty much yes. You wouldnt have to be too detailed when doing it out of blocks as it would be plastered over. Use cavity closers to fill the cavity and you're good to go 😁👍🏻🧱
Great, for cutting brick, a tile cutter with a brick blade. We used a wet saw, like mk diamond..Love the Coors on the brick, this would make an excellent stone wall with circles as windows
Rodian you made bricklaying so interesting. This bullseye window is something that I would like to learn to build :) I decided to build brick BBQ for start and bought marshalltown trowel. I saw you have book. Can you recommend any book about bricklaying please.
Glad to see it being done with the proper math and techniques. It's come out perfect Also happy to see PPE being used. Maybe you could do a quick vid about it and address tradesman stigma about wearing a mask
Neat job. Interesting how you cut the curved bricks. Worth doing because it does make a big improvement to the finished effect. Look forward to next one. Could you have a go at some of the other trades to get the house finished.
The curved bricks were difficult to cut but they look much better than a straight cut. I have other trades coming in to get the house done...vids coming soon🤙🏼🧱
@@RodianBuilds That's great news. See if you can have a go at each of the trades, and what you can teach us. Interested to see which walls you are dry lining inside. Vancouver carpenter is my fav RUclips chan for that. Also on plumbing if you are going plastic or trad copper and what kind of fittings you prefer. I'm not keen on plumbing behind fine plastered walls, but you would have to specifically design the house in a certain way to avoid that.
Great video! I love the end result! I wish you didn't skip the most interesting part, how you cut (shaped) the bricks to fit in the circle. I didn't catch what you called it in the video! How come your mortar (cement) has a cream color and not the usual grey? It looks nice in my opinion. What type of mortar and/or mix did you use to achieve this?
Rodian, it looks like you cut the bricks on the circle to a different length on the inner and outer diameter positions. Can you share how you did that? I'm going to change a rectangular windows opening to a 30" dia circle in my house. This video is really helpful. Thank you.
another inspiring vid rodian. Well done. Great to c your subs have soared from 10k to 30k in no time. Thanks for the previous words of encouragement. I have almost cracked video editing and expect to upload my many construction vids online within the next few weeks. keep a lookout.., all thanks to people like you. Any last words of advice are always welcomed. Thanks again.Tye.
Nice bullseye Rodian! We put a 3' one in the gable end of our house using bullnose bricks. I think they are a great feature and enjoy the process involved in building them. Great video
Amazing! I just started my apprenticeship and going to trade school soon, my coworkers showed my photos of their complete work doing a bullseye. I didn't think it'd be done this way with like a clock hand going around to make sure the cuts are right. Is this how they do it in trade school for the assessment?
G/day Rodian,That looks good mate. When you mentioned the brick cutting and asked is there a better way,I thought I'd let you know how we do it here in Australia. We have used bricksaws for a long time here.I started in the game in 1968 and probably bought my first bricksaw in or around 76.The became a very popular machine for the hire companies for ten years or so, and then almost all of the sub-contractors started to purchase their own. This coincided with the advent of dry pressed bricks been largely replaced with wire cut ones, (plenty of dry pressed still available, but much dearer) with lots of perforations through them. They are often very brittle and fracture easily,so a bricksaw is, as I said, mandatory these days As someone else mentioned the BT engineering models are very popular and although costing quiet a bit (around $2000A)they will last for a lot of years and the parts that commonly have the most wear are readily available.I think BT have started to export their extensive range of tools and saws over your way recently.I think you'd find the saws to be a massive time saver and do a great job but,as I mentioned not a cheap tool. All the best Rodian. Regards Terry www.btengpl.com.au/
Thanks for taking the time to comment. I have seen a few people mention the BT saw. Wow £2k, that's a big outlay🤔Maybe I could find a second hand one for cheaper. I remember using one in college and they made awkward cuts so much easier. I'll look into it. Thanks again buddy 😁🤙🏼🧱
Love your vids Rodian, keep em coming. You’re very talented...video edits are great, and make the content so much more engaging. I’m no builder, but find your videos very interesting and entertaining. Are you planning on picking up the general vlogs stuff again? Cheers mate, stay safe.
Quality job mate 👏 👌 Iver got the norton clipper saw 400mm, good but the blades are getting hard to find. If you search under Altrad Belle you should find them - around £1200 new but you might find a good secondhand one. All the parts are available and I think they now have a 350mm blade which is much easier / cheaper to find. Sorry to go on a bit 😅 Have a great one Regards Tim
Another cracking vid mate. Was a vid from another bricky(stu compton). He did an Victorian weave panel with no sound, just wondering if you could do one and go through technical stuff. You and Holly stay safe.

That is a shame. I think there is still a lot of bricklaying in the UK, or as far as I am aware. People here like bricks. They really age well too.
