      Tbh, imo they’re pretty bad.
They unnecessarily made the design really wonky because LEGO was too niggardly to create new Phase II accessories, and we’re not talking about a one off figure but instead an entire main trilogy army faction.
And frankly we’re talking about the army faction that almost single-handedly created today’s generation of Star Wars fans and defined LEGO Star Wars fan culture for decades. It’s at least 25% of the reason I buy LEGO, and it’s as if every 2 years LEGO makes a random and unecessary design compromise that significantly deteriorate clone design, whether it be hybrid era torso prints, printed waist capes, or the helmet holes

It’s sucks but people are still complaining about it too much, like clearly LEGO aren’t gonna change it so I think it would be more worth it to just accept it rather than keep getting mad over something.

    1. I think even MandRs biggest fans would admit that he gives off entitled crying baby energy when talking about things he doesn’t agree with, if he could be a bit more mature and offer solutions to the problems I have a feeling more people would hear him out.
    2. The “it’s a children’s toy, grown men crying over toys, go buy a black series” crowd is insufferable
    3. The biggest issue with the helmet hole helmets is the printing imo, ever since they introduced them the new prints have ranged from slight downgrades (332), to plain goofy (fives).

    • @kaleb749
      @kaleb749 3 месяца назад +7

Yeah it sucks so hard to have Mandr as the face of LSW fans passionate about good design. His smarmy smarter-than-thee attitude really doesn’t help anything, and him and his fanbase leaning towards advocating for the absurd 360° printing that you see in customs give credence to people who argue that advocating for Lego’s own basic design principles is too high standard for LEGO Star Wars.
Also, it’s worth pointing out that even if you don’t see the universal chunkier proportions and random plastic bits the helmet holes cause in Phase II as a more serious problem than the droopy printing of a couple of clone legions, that shifted print actually only exists for the helmet holes. Compare every printed clone helmet to the older rendition, and you’ll find they universally have to be spaced farther apart from the crest on the 2022 Phase II helmets. Hence why Five’s face print is wispy and the 212’s print has the orange streaks connecting much lower.

    • @TheBenjaman

It is actually just that. A kids toy. I think if people want to discuss the topic sure go ahead. Dislike the holes on the side. But in the end it really is a kids toy. A customizable endless options kids toy. Any set with a 100 pieces has millions of possibilities of reconnecting the bricks. If the holes are that much of a problem...don't buy the product. Nobody forces you.
By continuously raging in every review on the helmet holes, it just shows the petty nature of the person reviewing. But that already shines through when Rex got released in a 13 buck set didn't it? The rage is not about product quality. But resale value.
It shows how certain people gush over the bigger 501st battle pack. And have like 50/100 of these locked in storage. For the right moment to sell. Sets with holed helmet figures have less value. To them. Bringing it full circle to what the real problem is. People who do not love Lego but only care for resale value. Scalpers. I rest my case.

It's a ridiculous argument. Made by fanatics. Lego is Lego. It's a kids toy. Convince me otherwise. They put stud shooters on every vehicle. So far as to break the mold on vehicles just to include them. So kids can swoosh and shoot. Should I then care about 2 holes on the side of a helmet for a kids toy?
And I get it. The 501st hailed battle pack. I got 2 of that set. Love it. But not so much as to buy 50 of it to put in the closet and wait for it to sell them for 100 bucks a piece. I'm not a scalper. The value of anything after that set became less, and that is what they cry about. The previous helmet is deemed superior. So nobody will be buying a set with the newer helmets. At least not their target customers.

      A. How does it seem small next to helmet holes? Helmet holes alter the proportions of ALL Phase II clone helmets, making them chunky and adding random plastic detail
      B. It’s honestly ironic you say the terrible prints are a more serious issue, because these print issues are caused by the helmet hole prints. Compare all printed current Phase II helmets to the old holeless Phase II; you’ll find that in every helmet print, the new helmet has a larger space between the crest and the print than the old ones. That’s not coincidental

@@AlexDeBremaI’m not a LEGO insider, so I don’t know exactly how the new plastic bits interfere with the printing, I’d imagine it has to do with the machine now having to deal with a wider and more warped helmet.
But in any case, i think you should look again. These new print issues only arose with the new helmets, and every new Phase II helmet print now has more distance from the center crest. Obviously for a lot of clones like Rex or Cody, you’re not going to see the difference. But it’s really noticeable on the 212th and Fives, and if you look closely at designs that also have forehead prints like the 501st and the gunners, you can see that they also are spaced farther from the center crest. It doesn’t ruin all the new designs, but if you pay attention, you can see that they ALL have a larger gap between printing and the helmet crest, and that’s just simply not coincidental.

If you enjoy lego, enjoy lego. This discussion about helmet holes and what not is like having a melt down because the roof of your lego car has studs... It is a buildable toy. Made for kids. For all I care a kid mixes up a Clone trooper with an Imperial storm trooper because he thinks they look cool. Meanwhile a SW fanatic has a meltdown that the pants do not look right! I bet these haters are great parents. Telling their kids everything they "made up" is wrong to the canon of the SW lore...

  • @Duskcosmog
    @Duskcosmog 3 месяца назад

The idea of helmet holes was good, but the execution objectively sucks. Instead of drilling the holes in the proper attachment spots (although I'm pretty sure it's molded like that), they drill them a spot up so the visor doesn't cover the clone's eyes. This causes warts, holes in the helmets, and the range finders gets placed too high. Instead, just put them in the proper spot and mold a phase 2 clone visor that is placed a bit higher up on its pins and have the corners fold down a bit. This would make it more accurate.
Lego is overall a good company. They make a good product, they will go the extra mile some times, and they can make good decisions. There are just a lot of things that they have done which are fuled by greed, ignorance, or malice. For example, the gunship. Or the armorer reusing a helmet for another character making her inaccurate. Another one is how Lego stopped doing waste capes for Star Wars for no reason. Or how they don't make accurate blasters. There are also a lot more. Some of these decisions are made so Lego can increase their profit margins. Others are made because the designers just don't care about the build so they don't research the lore enough. And very few are made out of malice (mainly the gunship)
The main point in this video isn't just true to this but everything else in life. These days people are extremely retarded and don't know how to properly think and discuss stuff. The masses are extremely ignorant even though information is easily excessible. People also struggle with properly thinking and discussing things. People struggle to research stuff and review all the facts before forming a stance on things. They are lazy and form a stance on something with doing no, or very little research. They are also extremely emotional with their thoughts. They are a slave to their emotions letting it guide them. Frontal lobe thinking is not a good thing.
Also very few people actually know how to argue. They usually get very heated very quick when met with disagreement; They are usually stubborn and dumb which those 2 are a poor combination; They are usually bad at explaining and conveying their thoughts; They don't know logic and logical fallicies; They also give up when met with repeated proper opposition to their points.

While i don't think they activly hate them i do think they havw tremendous contempt for the star wars fans in particular which you can see based on how many more figures the qualiry of the figures and the ratio of printing vs stickers and the amount if custom molds thst almost every other major line has. It just feels like lego thinks star wars fans will buy anything so they don't put as much effort into the star wars line as others. The helmet holes are a good example of that.

the main issue I take with anti helmet hole people is a lot of the big names in the discussion come off as if they're trying to squeeze money out of their fans it's never "this clone has helmet hole if you don't like it here's some recommendations on how to fix it" it's almost always "this clone has helmet holes if you don't like it I have custom parts on my store that I say for very high prices, trust me this is a big issue that lego must fix" and too many people just seem to blindly follow, it's reached a point where any tiny inaccuracy in clones (notice how it's always clones rarely anything else) gets blown up into this massive issue that you must spend more money to fix which at that point I think they should just move onto buying action figures if they want accuracy.
If there's helmet holes it's good because you can customise your clones more (that's the entire point of the toy), if they're not there you can't and it limits the figure. They should be in the correct place but I feel like we've reached a point where if they correct it then 10+ years of specific parts won't be able to be used on the corrected helmets and parts made for those helmets won't be able to be used on other helmets that use the current parts, it would cost too much for to realistically expect Lego to create a new P2 helmet mold, new attachment molds for that helmet, while still producing the current P1 and Mando helmet alongside all the current attackments

I think the helmet holes are good because they allow customization options, I don’t think they look bad at all, as I barely notice them unless I am actively trying to, and I also understand that Lego would have to sacrifice a mold somewhere else for us to get both holed and unholed, which I’m not sure would be worth it.
I also get that people are allowed to have their own opinions and think that the people who are against them are valid in not liking them. I might not agree with a lot of the reasoning for disliking them (mainly that they look ugly), but you are entitled to that opinion and are valid in having it.
The problem I have with the anti-holes people is that a lot of them feel like they are complaining for the sake of complaining at this point. I’m fine with fighting for what you believe in, but at this point, it’s just getting ridiculous. A lot of them use every opportunity to complain about something that really isn’t that big a deal, and it’s just becoming too much. It’s the obvious solution and what LEGO already did for Phase I. It makes it so inexplicable that these helmet hole defenders don’t see the problem or even the value in the improvement and are so invested in shit slinging over something they have 0 stake in

i do think it is funny
i get you can not like helmet holed, but like, the way mandr gets mad about its at a whole other level and i think it is okay to laugh about it
like, it is just not that bad, it is not worth it to get THAT mad and his tone is terrible
i enjoy his work, he does cool vids, but he goes to far and like i get it but just let it die
making fun of that a bit is not that bad, ofc people take it a bit far and yes, that should not happen, but it is funny how much he gets mad

I feel likw you can use math to deduce if helmet holes are bad, or wrong. Let's say it's divides 50/50 for and against helmet holes, as they currently are on phase 2 clone troopers. Most Clones produced by lego are unnamed characters so let's see. In a world where there are no helmet holes one side is satisfied and the other is not. In a world where there are it is the other way around. What is the difference? If there are no holes, the people who are dissatisfied get a nicer looking figure than the other way around. So in conclusion I think no helmet holes is better, as in such a case the product looks better, than in the case where there are holes. Also side note. If Lego says that they add helmet holes, to add "customization" to their clones, why are they not adding accessories to the sets like the battle pack. Personally I don't like the holes. They make the shape of the helmet look to much like a square and if you have the old mold it makes it look even worse. Also I don't know why, but eversince that new mold was added the printing was messed up on the clones' helmets.

Thing is, taking one over the other isn’t necessary. Why is it impossible to have both accessories and good design when Phase I and Mandos did it? It’s a false dichotomy that LEGO could easily get rid of by owning up to their repeated mistake and just creating a Phase II accessory pack so they can put the holes and accessories in the right place

@@kaleb749 True. Unfortunately this whole situation probably could've been avoided if Lego planned ahead when making the Phase I design. They made it so that it matched the Phase I helmet, without taking into consideration how it would fit on a phase II one.

@@hubertwaliszewski5740 yeah the lack of planning ahead is so wild, like it’s not just this helmet, why did they release the other new Phase II that couldn’t do accessories in the first place 😭

I just don’t get how it blew up to this bad in the first place. Yeah it’s not a great spot to put the holes when that little circular spot is right underneath where the helmet hole already goes, but the ability to get some use out of the extra helmet attachments and sortve kitbash your own oc clone troopers. It’s a play pattern, it seems like most forget LEGO are toy designers as well as manufacturers. They put helmet holes on phase 2 helmets w/this in mind. They knew that kids who may have watched clone wars and gets a LEGO Star Wars kit w/ a clone trooper or two would maybe wanna customize one of the troopers into their own character. Not everyone wants to army build a gajillion troopers to stand on grey baseplates for army showcase videos. LEGO is a children’s product first and foremost, yes they create 18+ collector style sets and most play sets do have more accuracies that only collectors are realistically going to care about, but helmet holes aren’t that, they’re purely one of functionality. It’s future proofing as well as giving themselves the ability to do named clone troopers like Rex, fives, Cody, fox, etc. I don’t think they’re great for the integration of it, but I understand why theyre there, and if I ever really dislike how they look I can just buy a few third party helmets to remedy the situation.
